hey, I really love Disney music, both from movies and the parks. So, I just wanna know what the best soundtracks are and why. I'd like to start a really really good collection.
And also, I pieced together this song involving music from both The Haunted Mansion and POTC, but I don't know what to call it. I have some contenders:
1) A Haunted Pirate's Life For Me
2) The Haunted Pirate's Mansion of the Caribbean Medley
3) The Haunted Mansion of the Caribbean Medley
Help please!
Disney Albums in heavy rotation at my place:
The Music of Disney: A Legacy in Song - This 3 disc compilation has every significant Disney song from the movies, cartoons and television from Steamboat Willie through Beauty and the Beast. This was a limited edition, it may take some searching to find it, but it's well worth it.
A Musical History of Disneyland - This set offers 5 disc journey through everyone's favorite theme park past and present. Nearly all attractions are presented in their entirety, especially mixed to sound just like you're there. A bonus 6th disc is jam packed with special event and holiday offerings. This is a high priced box set, but well worth it as there is no need to aquire individual sountracks from Disneyland at all if you own this set.
Mary Poppins - Irwin Kostal's arrangements of the Sherwin Bros. songs are amazing! The orchestra is balanced favoring brass, woodwinds and percussion instead of strings. It's an unusual and very natural sound as if the orchestra were un-miked. The result is a sirring Gay 90's dancehall sound thats paired perfectly to the movie's setting. The songs are bouncy and tuneful, and you can't help but feel happy listening to them. (Kostal also wrote and arranged the songs for Pete's Dragon. I like the sound of that one too. His movie credits also include the music arrangement for West Side Story by the way.)
Alice in Wonderland - The score is very jazz influenced, owing particularly to Sammy Fain. Fain's frenetic March of the Cards is a jazz band masterwork. The melody driven score is down-modulated and drifts in and out of a dreamy sounding minor keys. Even simple songs like In a World of My Own have complex lounge jazz influenced key changes. I prefer the classic Disneyland Records version, which may currently be available at the Disneyland Resort on demand via the Wonderland Music System. Mouseketeer Darleen Gilespie's vocals are lush and the Tutti Camerata arrangements flow nicely as an album. And T'was Brilling is presented as a foxtrot! (The new reconstructed soundtrack available at record stores sounds jumbled up in comparison, although it does contain the late Thurl Ravenscroft's group The Mellowmen performing Painting the Roses Red, unfortunately absent from the Camerata album.)
The Sleeping Beauty - George Bruns does a terrific job adapting music from the Tchaikovsky ballet to a popular song format. The music is very powerful and the melodious themes make terrific songs. Once Upon a Dream, and I Wonder, the two songs based upon The Sleeping Beauty Waltz, are both particularly marvelous and Mary Costa's operatic soprano is very accesable to the untrained ear. This is a terrific introduction to light classical show music.
Walt Disney Presents at the New York World's Fair: it's a small world - Where the attraction fails, due mainly the the relentlessness of the Sherman Bros. themesong, the album succeeds. The cheerful narration by Rex Allen (better known for narrating Disney's True Life Adventures) is utterly charming, and hearing each country's version of the song separately, rather than blended together into a musical pudding, lends an easy appreciation to the artistry of the attraction's music arrangements. This should also be available via the Wonderland Music System.
and... there's so much more...

Does anyone remember the times when you could choose 3 songs from any ride to burn on a CD? It was in the Disneyland Park and I think on Main Street or in Tomorrowland. I have one, it has Haunted Mansion, POTC, & Rainbow Ridge. Does Anyone Else have one?

Yeah, I went to the music shop on Main Street (which is now gone) that burned any CD you wanted for 16 bucks. I got the CD the Enchanted Tiki Room/ Jungle Cruise CD. It's pretty awesome. Thur Ravenscroft narrates the Jungle Cruise.

This is an old post lol. I still haven't seen it though.
My favorite Disney movie soundtracks are:
1.The Lion King - I just love the heavy drums combined with the soft music. My favorite Disney song of all time is probably "Be Prepared".
2. Tarzan - I thiknk that the movie is boring...Really boring, but the soundtrack is so good. I love it.
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas - Great. That's all I can say. I listen to it all the time.
4.Pirates of the Caribbean 1 or 2 - They are both excellent and I hope that the third movie brings even more unique and exciting music.
5. The Little Mermaid - It has a lot of memorable songs (Under the sea, Kiss the Girl) and all of the songs are good.
And now for the parks:
1. Soarin' Over California - That is one of the best orchestrated pieces of music Disney has ever created.
2. Tarzan's Treehouse - I like the music coming from Tarzan's Treehouse because when you wait in line for Pirates in the hot sun, that's the only form of entertainment. Therefore, I associate that music with pirates rather than Tarzan
3. All of the music in the Enchanted Tiki Room. It just sounds so cool. I don't know why I like it so much, but I do.
4. The Fantasmic! soundtrack is amazing. That music has made so many people cry with happiness over the years, so you know it's good.
5. Finally, all of the music in The Haunted Mansion. Throughout the whole ride, you hear different variations of the same tune (Grim Grinning Ghosts), and each variation brings a unique style of creepiness to the ride.
I hope you enjoyed reading that as much (if not more) as I enjoyed typing it.
