According to another Disneyland-related website, Haunted Mansion is being taken down for the Holiday overlay removal and an extended refurbishment. The official Disneyland website would also suggest this (I've got a trip planned from Jan. 30-Feb. 3, and the Mansion is closed during those dates). Can anyone confirm this information for me?

Thanks!

Riderefurbs.com shows Mansion down from January 18th, 2006 - March 5, 2006. Looks like you're out of luck. :frown:

Thanks for the info, PMM. Definitely not what I wanted to hear, since my last trip was scheduled during the install of the Holiday stuff. I was hoping to catch the Mansion as I remember it from my childhood (with my eyes open, this time).

Okay. Next question, are there any official stories as to what they are doing?

The HM regularily goes down for refurbishment after the HMH layover. II am trying to remember but it seems to me the ride goes down for about 4 weeks and usually closes early in January. The 18th seems to be later then normal but I could be mistaken.

My guess this normal switchback will be nothing more then clean up and maybe fix a couple effects. A 6 week refurb is not enough time for any major ride changes.

At least that is my educated guess.

Last year the mansion went down on Jan 4th and came back on Feb 8th (I think is was the 8th.) But you have to count in a few more differences this year (ie. Leota floating). Other than that I hope they attempt to fix the jurkiness of the ride. Disneyland.com says "Haunted Mansion Holiday Removal & Capital" whatever that means.

what kind of refurbs are they doing to it. I know they need to fix the screens in the back yard because they are showing. (by screen i mean fabric screens that make the animatronic ghosts look florecent and ghostly that basicly covers the whole graveyard)

those are scrims. You are soo right you can see them all too well. I think the main purpose of them is to project the flying ghosts onto though.

again the refurb is until march that isn't just taking down the overlay. I think other rides need the refurb more like indy and toon town.

The scrims are also there to create an illusion of depth, and give the scene a foggy, misty look. Objects behind them seem out of focus to your eyes, and therefore seem farther away. WARNING: Ghosts in graveyard are closer than they appear!

I hope they bring back the Ghost Host safety speil "Do not remove the safety bar please...". It's strange that whenever I listen to the 22 minute soundtrack, an essential piece of the Haunted Mansion is missing.

The Ghost Host telling you to not pull down on the safety bar, he will do it for you, hasn't gone anywhere. The true Mansion still had it when it went down & the current HMH has its version up now. No worries.

Actually the new speil isn't Paul Frees, it's someone trying to sound like Paul Frees. I believe that the actual spiel that isn't used anymore is this: "Do not pull down the safety bar please. I will lower it for you. And heed this warning: the spirits will materialize only when you remain quietly seated at all times." I may not be 100% accurate, but you get the point.

I'm pretty sure he (whoever it is) still says that part though. I just think they added more to end (watch your kids, etc.).

I do know that by listening to the 22 minute soundtrack of the Haunted Mansion or even the version released in the 6-CD set, that it was Paul Frees doing the spiel. He never said "...arms, feet, children..." and so forth. I wouldn't mind if they kept the old spiel as well as using the new spiel.

I went in September 2003 and HM was closed for the holiday overlay. I went back in January 2004 and it was closed again to remove the holiday decorations. I rode HM in May 2005 and it was the first time I rode the DL one since 1998 (I went to WDW and rode it in December 2004).

Don't forget, now he is a bilingual ghost!

LOL um, not quite. There's the ghost and then there's the seemingly one man in existence who can speak spanish, so he has to alter his voice to be everything. Ghosts, kids, old ladies, you name it he's been it.

I can remember as far back as December 2000 when the Ghost Host said "Do Not Pull Down the Safety Bar please..." There is no reason not to use both the old spiel and the new spiel. The narration is Paul Free's remaining contribution to Disneyland itself. We may end up losing of his soundtracks in the Pirates of the Caribbean.
