yeah they are going to refurbish the monrail with a track reconstruction, like neww beams maybe but same layout, and rebuild the Station in tommrowland to acomadate the subs Ex. move the elevator out of the way. And if the budget allow get new monorails, the ones now if you haven'y relized that they are needing updates. They brake down and the reason orange isn't operating is cuz it lost a show over the soarin fastpass area thankfully it was toward the end of the day and they were all sold out already

Orange isn't operating because it's being reverse engineered to be the prototype for the next generation Disneyland monorail.

Good thing this is in the rumor mill!
The word I've gotten is that Orange isn't being so much reverse-engineered, but that it's been taken apart and a new monorail body will go on the existing platform. The platforms (what you might call the 'frame' or 'undercarriage') will have all new contacts and wheels and brakes and other mechanical and electrical equipment, so it's like it's being refurbished Rather than the old body taken off it and a new body slapped on.
The new bodies will a slightly higher capacity and will have better access for the disabled. The higher capacity will not be that much greater, since it would add strain on the track as well as add strain to the mechanics of how the trains move and stop. My personal thought on this is that this might be a sign that Disney has finally learned from it's mistakes of just slapping additional stuff onto existing rides without checking to see if the track can take the abuse (i.e. Rocket Rods/Peoplemover and Space Mountain).
The new cabins will be air conditioned and have cameras (for the pilot) and video monitors for the safety spiels (like Space Mountain's Queue). It's likely that if the cars are air conditioned, then the windows will no longer be operable.
I was told by one of the monorail pilots that there were some photos or imagineer conceptions of what the new monorail exteriors would look like that were in the roundhouse (train and monorail facility) but were only for a short time so that the roundhouse crew could take a look and then were taken away... Supposedly these concepts showed no more colored stripe down the side signifying monorail red, blue or orange, but the whole monorail would be the color red, blue, orange, etcetera and they would look even more sleek and more like a Japanese bullet train. This is from a castmember, so I don't know how valid that might be.
The ONE 'new' monorail (what was orange, whether it would stay orange I don't know) would come on line when the monorail ride comes back next year after the station is refurbished and changed to accommodate the 'new' Nemo ride, at that time, another monorail would be taken off line for retrofitting to the new style... and so on until all the monorails are changed. No real work has been slated for the track itself... doesn't mean it won't get a paint job and a quick check of the electrics, but I was told by the castmember that HE was told nothing was being done to the track itself, since it's running fine. I HOPE that it might get some more paint, as it's looking a little shabby in my viewpoint... but I don't know how many people notice stuff like that.
This is all being done by Disney or as close to being "done by Disney" as anything is in these days of Disney not keeping imagineers around and only contracting help as it's needed. In other words, I guess, the work is not being performed by Bombardier or any other monorail or light rail maker.

^^well one thing do you mean the supports for the track when you want it to be repainted? I don't think the actually track is painted at all. Its just concrete. Do you know if they will have the stand and lean against plastic thing in the middle like the have at WDW?

take a look at the track. it's got a coat of paint adhered to it. It's peeling in places. I don't know that it's paint so much as a white coating, or perhaps a white 'stain'.

Not that what Al Lutz reports is golden, it's nice that his latest post talks about the monorail and the concept art that more than one person saw. Go read his articleon miceage.com if you haven't yet.
