I was told by a cast member that the H.M.H. is leaving Disneyland and heading for Disneyworld this year. Is this true??

Well thats good, I hate the fact that Nightmare became so mainstream for so many of these wannabe goths, I mean I was a big fan when the movie came out and ive always loved it, I bet all these newbs dont know a darn thing about the movie, just that it looks ''cool''.....i'll get off my soap box now. lol

As strange as it sounds, I understand what you mean and hate the same thing. I'm actually enjoying you haranguing the masses on top of your soap box... someone had to...

I am also sick of looking at all of the Nightmare Before Christmas things at school that are worn by people who have no knowledge of the movie... it's horrible. HORRIBLE, I TELLS YA!

The only places that HMH should be kept at is here in Anaheim and at Tokyo.
WDW butchered Fantasmic! and Cinderellabration as is. I don't want that to happen to this despite my desires to make it go away.

My inner Burton fan girl cries at the mainstream.

what do you mean by butchered Cinderellabration? i thought i was an ok show. as for Fantasmic! o man, that was weird. the stadium and big huge mountain thing i love, but with no Columbia or real Mark Twain, it looks kinda weak.

I'm just relived that HMH isn't leaving. I had heard some rumors, and I am over joyed that my mind will finally be able to be put to rest.

There'd be no reason for it not to come back. It's tremendously popular, it's already made and so doesn't require immense spending other than the setting up part. It sets the tone nicely as Disney transitions into the holiday period. It's an overall hit on many levels.

All the more reason for them to get rid of it and put rocketrod-buggies on the track =D

Have you seen and heard the audio of the original Tokyo Disneyland version? It does not compare!

In brief, WDW took it, smashed it to ten minutes compared to half an hour. I can go on and on about it but believe me when I say Tokyo's was definetly a ball.

I believe I read somewhere the HMH would not be set up this year, but would return next year. It would allow guests to see the original HM year round.

my sentiments exaclty. I plan two trips during the Holidays for the sole purpose of seein the H.M.H.

and I totally agree with the rest of you about the "sellout" of Nightmare. I cant stand seeing all these trendy little kids sportin the Nightmare stuff. But maybe thats why Tim only allowed it for 5 years. Either way, it's going to hurt Disneylands sales in that respect.

What do you mean Tim only allowed it for 5 yrs? Do you mean that HMH is only gonna run for 5 yrs total? I don't think Tim has much of a choice since Nightmare is a Touchstone Pictures movie and touchstone is owned by Disney.
Disney has found something people LOVE and a goldmine in HMH... it'll be around for awhile

I am very glad that the Haunted Mansion Holidays in not going away anytime soon. I really like the movie and the ride and think that it should become a Haloween tradition so to speak for Disneyland and 1 other park. Hopefull Tokyo.. But I think that it is just a rumor about Tim Burton only allowing the ride to happen for 5 years. :p

Well, I heard that they were going to stop selling the Nightmare merchandise after 5 years. But I also heard that the Nightmare overlay was only a five year deal also. Both appear to be rumors. I wonder if we can get the real story from someone who knows.

I've never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas and I don't go around wearing stuff with that theme trying to act cool. But I really do love all the things that they've done with H.M.H. I hope they don't get rid of it anytime soon, and actually I don't think they will because H.M.H. is always REALLY crowded during the holiday season (at least when I've gone). Hopefully I can see the movie before I ride H.M.H. again so that I can truly appreciate everything on a higher level.

If WDW would to stop destroying everything that went over there, us unfortunate enough to not get to Disneyland would still get to enjoy it. BUT NOOOOO!!! (blows top).

GreenLantern13

When WDW gets a holiday layover, they will 99% probably get tokyo's version. Tokyo has an identical mansion to theirs and already did a holiday layover, so it'd make the most sense to use that for wdw.

I only hope they'd fix some music transitions so they didn't have 2000 version clashing with 2001 version in akward ways.

That would be sweet. I saw a video of it. They have Jack and Sally on a staircase. Jack has so much more fluidity in his movements. But it's kind of annoying to hear it in Japanese.:icon_roll

This article is very depressing indeed. I love Tim Burtons work more than any other film maker by far. But a filmaker is only as succsessfull as his fans make him and without his fans he would be nothing. I think he needs to not be so selfish and listen to what the fans want. I know he's got his personal "artistic" reasons for not wanting to commercialize the characters any more than they are, and yes I get sick when I seen teeny-boppers wearing Nightmare apperal as trends, but there are MILLIONS of people who love this ride and do NOT want to see it go. And some people might say, "well all great things must come to and end sometime"......to this I say BULL!! Disneyland is the greatest thing ever, and I dont see any plans to shut IT down! Tim Burton has a chance to become as timeless as Walt Disney himself and should be absolutely humbled that he is a part of Disneyland. Only a fool would pass up the opportunity to live in immortality in the happiest place on earth.

Fantasmic!kid

Yeah, what's Tim's problem? I think he's jealous that HMH made more than NBC ever did!

I've always wondered why a haunted house is dressed up for Christmas on Halloween (skeletons or not). They should start the makeover in November and really spook you out during October. Guess I should read the article now too. lol.

read it: Wow. That would really suck as I have never seen HMH before. I thought for sure that I would be at Disneyland some time in my life to see it. I hope this doesn't come about. I think Mr. Burton needs to go to DL and see the magic again in person.

SilentMickey
09-27-2005, 02:01 AM
If Tim Burton wants to be this way fine he should stop making movies like Batman and Planet of the Apes (which BTW sucked) and go make grainy 16mm black and white independent films I never heard him complain about all the cash he made from batman!
the article says he has creative control over the characters so its his descretion as to what he wants to do but he made a movie with Disney like Disneys ever gonna miss a chance to make money. but thats just my opinion.

Wasn't this over in the Rumor Mill?

I'm on both of the fence with this: I love HMH, and every year I'm always excited to go and see the new thing they've done to the ride.
However, I can see Burton's point: he wanted the movie made, but wanted it to be "just a film", not a mass marketing machine which it's undoubtedly become (go to Hot Topic...Jack Skellington literally slaps you in the face). The funny part about all this is, Neither he nor Disney knew how insanely popular it was going to get...I think it's just the irony of the whole situation that makes me laugh.

*ahem* Anyway.....flame on, folks.

Followup: Didn't Burton make Nightmare with Touchstone, then Disney asked to share the rights for HMH?

well my story goes.

i've loved nightmare before chirstmas before it became a popular trend at my school.

i loved HMH ever since they've put it in DLR

I understand tim burton's view cuz he doesnt want to end up like pixar.

but its gonna be so depressing when it's gone.

so like are they gonna start selling his merchandise at the one store?!

OK, I know I'm gonna get yelled at, but I just don't see the big deal about HMH. I mean, I don't want it to go away or anything, I just personally prefer the traditional HM. HMH seems to "bright" and the colors are to vibrant to be in a Haunted Mansion. It's suppose to be dark and gloomy. I really miss my singing busts in the graveyard, I really don't like the singing jack-o-lanterns, it does nothing for me. Sorry group, just thought I'd share.

For me Haunted Mansion Holiday brings new life to Disneyland. The holidays are always something to look forward to and H.M.H. makes them even more rewarding. I absolutely LOVE H.M.H. and It couldn't have been done better by anybody but Burton and Elfman (for those who don't know, Elfman does the soundtrack for the ride and the movie). I will be sooooooooo sad to see HMH go away, and I curse Burton for doing it. If you ask me it's just pompus and erogant for him to pull the plug because "It's too commercial". <Ohhhhh boo hooooo your movie became more succesfull that you though whaaa whaaaa>
My god, there are people (including me) that would give anything to have a vision become as succesfull as Nightmare/HMH have become. Oh well.... :(

Madam Leota's head will not levitate during HMH!

The huge gingerbread house in the ballroom features the animated vampire wreath this year!

Look for several new Vampire Teddies in place of the ravens throughout the attraction!

Look for a hidden 50/mickey in the bottom right of the ballroom!

Check out the newly refurbished Jack Skellington and Zero AAs!

Look for a slight change on the exit ramp to your left!

Perhaps once these additions have been confirmed, we can post this "info" in the Disneyland Park forum. Anyone go on HMH today???

Tim Burton annoys me. Yes he is oneof my favorite director's and i love his movies but he reminds me of one of those kids in high school that calss themselves "punk" and only likes music that isn't on the radio and stops liking it just because it becomes mainstream. That's bull. I can understand the whole "wanting to be alternative" idea, but wanting to pull a park favorite because you feel it's too commercial just because a wider audience than you originally anticipated enjoys the movie and the characters? That's just stupid and selfish. Come on, Burton...

Its staying at disneyland. The reason its at the haunted mansion in disneyland and not at the other parks is because the town square in the movie and the haunted mansion are extremely alike. And nothing like the ones elsewhere. Heres a picture of both of them next to each other.

Then why isnt it in florida? to be honest with u, they could care less how much more stuff is in florida than is in disneyland. that is the only logical reason. If its not, then it was obviously a factor on building it at dl.

wheresmytiara?
10-08-2005, 05:06 PM
^^Maybe Burton requested that it be there, since he lives in CA? I don't know, just throwing guesses out there guys...But it doesn't seem logical that just because the buildings are similar, it can ONLY ever be at DL, not WDW.

I believe Elfman only did the singing parts for Skellington. The regular voice was provided by good ol Prince Humperdink himself in both movie and the ride, same with Sally.

Wait a second! Last year (and maybe this year, i don't know) it was in Tokyo, and the Tokyo HM looks nothing like the Disneyland HM or the Town Square in the movie. I know the similarities are pretty scary, but that's definitly not the reason.
