I'm visiting Disneyland in early October. We're arriving on a Wednesday morning and getting a rental car. Does anyone have any suggestions for the quickest route from LAX around 8 a.m.? We really want to be there for the rope drop at 10, but I'm worried that we're going to get stuck in traffic.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Traffic you will see my friend. That is a bad time for traffic as the freeways to take then are the busiest. Take the 405 north and then take the 118 east to the 5 south and that will take you all the way to DL. Someone else might have a better suggestion. With this route (traffic being optimal) from LAX to the 118 should take not even 20 minutes and then from the 118 to the 5 is like 5 minutes and from there it is like 50 minutes. That again is if traffic permits a good drive. Hope things go smoothly for you. Have a great time.

well I went from LAX to DL in July but we landed around 10:00am and got to DL around 1:00, it will take atleast an hour from the moment you land until you leave with your rental car most likely. I dont live in So Cal but I know some of the freeways and things, the 405 goes by LAX down to the 99 and the 99 goes just north of DL, I dont know if that would work though cause I think the 405 gets really busy during rush hour. I think thats what I did though In july but it wasnt rush hour and I was in a Coast USA shuttle bus so I never pay'd much of attention to the route. Why do I keep talking, just wait for a local to tell you.:old_wink:

The 405 also goes all the way down to the 5, but that is way below DL. I am only used to using the three freeways I mentioned earlier since I live up off the 118. I don't usually go down to LAX and beyond on the 405 heading south. Also try going to Google Maps or Google earth and punch in the to and from and it will set you on the right track.

can go to mapquest and search for direction and then click "Avoid Highways" that will tell you how to get their with out using the freeway.

What day of the week are you planning on arriving. AND do you HAVE to land in LAX? What about John Wayne airport in Orange County (About 30 minutes from Anaheim with traffic) or Ontario International (About an hour from the Anaheim area)...

Regarding other airports, the airfare into LAX was the cheapest, so it looks like I'll just have to be patient. If anyone can advise as to which of the following alternatives might have less traffic than the other early on a Wednesday morning:

1) 105 east, 605 south, 91 east, I5 south (This is the route Mapquest suggests- they say 37 minutes-- I WISH!!!)

2) 405 south, 91 east, I5 south (looks like it's about the same distance)

3) some other route

Whichever way we choose to go, I'll just try and remember that a long drive with a bunch of traffic to Disneyland beats a short drive to work any day. :o)

Thanks for all the help!

Wow...there are many east/west freeways much more south than 118 is, he doesn't need to go THAT far north.

#1's the way I'd go, there should be carpool (HOV) lanes the entire way & those are usually much faster than the other traffic lanes. You're going to get stuck in traffic going south 405 & you might get stuck on 91 and you WILL get stuck on I-5 south. What is to your advantage is that 105, 91 & 5 all have special carpools only ramps to each other in the interchanges. The only iffy one there is 605, 605's older so maybe no carpool lane there. Just whatever you do, DON'T go up to 118. Go east on 105, 10, 60, 91, or even 101...they're all before 118 going north. Traffic's going to matter not because they'll all be slow & go, that's why I'd keep to the carpool lanes as much as I could.

-- Peoplemover "Of course they're most likely making that backup you're speeding past worse..." Matt

Being a Wednesday morning, you might hit some traffic heading from LAX to Anaheim, but now where near the amount if you were heading TOWARDS LAX from Anaheim. Your still looking at around an hour and a half of driving time.

Another option might be to take a bus from LAX to Anaheim, and rent a car once you get to the Disneyland area. There's a Disneyland Resort Express (http://www.airportbus.com/) bus that leaves LAX every hour and runs $19 one way or $28 round trip. A lot of the hotels around Disneyland have car rental agencies. Avis has a center right across from the park on Harbor Blvd in the Park Vue Inn.

Just some ideas...
