Mickey's PhilharMagic is the best 3D show I think Disney has ever produced. I saw this at the WDW and immediately thought why we don't have it. Anyone else thinks Philharmagic should be brought "home" to Disneyland?

Yeah, why not. It's a great show!

I would LOVE to see it here! not only is it a great 3D show, but the Disney characters look so good in CGI it's unbelievable! PS: watch out for those "cloning losers" that hate it when Disneyland imports good attractions from WDW. Oh brother!

I am totally with you! I was just touting this show on another board yesterday. I think it is incredible. I went to WDW for the first time last year, and was admittedly overwhelmed by the mere fact of being there. But I wasn't feeling like I had "arrived" yet. I wasn't imbued with the spirit yet. We went into Philharmagic, and I was a little weepy, it was so fun, and I turned to my husband saying, "I'm finally here!"

I only saw parts of it in commercials and stuff on TV when it first came out. I probably won't get to WDW any time soon, so it'd be really cool to see it come over here!

^That's a great idea! My husband and I were just talking about how we never go to Toontown, and thought they should add another attraction to the area!:p

I went to WDW about 3 years ago and i think the ride came out like 3 weeks after i left WDW.
They really should get rid of HISTK, its realy old!
i've never seen it. what is it?

I saw it a couple of years ago. My friends loved it. I thought it was.... all right. If it were put here, I dunno if it would be a must-see for me. But the kiddies love it.

i would like it in fantasyland, but there's just no room and that sucks. Toontown would be good except it closes at 8 or whatever, so Philharmagic wouldn't be open all day and night, but i guess that's ok. The only other place i can think of (and it would be good publicity and a possible crowd drawer) is in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot, since with the addition of Monsters Inc and the animation building the backlot is turning into mainly Disney movies (except for Muppets). also the ride is all Disney movies so i think it would do very well where Millionaire is. of course, that park closes 2 hours before disneyland, so still Philharmagic wouldn't be operational all day and night, but i like it there rather than Toontown.

Has no one suggested replacing HISTA with Philharmagic to the Disneyland brass, then?!? I'm a bit surprised if they haven't. It truly is a spectacular show, every bit the multisensory experience Walt would have liked Fantasia to be. Plus its technology is really little different from HISTA (it could be retrofit in that building inside of a month), yet would fit the Tomorrowland motif nicely -- a sneak peek of what the 21'st century Disney movie experience could be like.
i've never seen it. what is it?
Jenn, I'll give you a little summary:
Basically it starts like it's going to be an orchestra concert conducted by Mickey (in full 3-D CGI glory). [The setting is quite appropriate since the building used to be The Mickey Mouse Revue in the 70's.] The instruments will play by themselves, as conducted by Mickey as he wears his Sorcerer's Apprentice hat. But, as Mickey, Goofy and Minnie get things prepared backstage, Donald decides to literally steal the show by donning the hat and using its' magic. (There's a great gag reference to Donald's flute from "The Band Concert" here. :icon_lol: ) Unfortunately, as we've seen many times in the past, Donald's just not the magician Mickey is. Soon he creates an out-of-control storm and loses his grip on the hat...
...and he finds himself in several musical scenes from Disney movies (all recreated in CGI), desperately trying to chase down and reclaim the errant hat. As he travels through each scene, several practical effects are used in addition to the 3-D CGI and digital sound to fully immerse the audience in the scene. They are:
-- "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast. When Lumiere sings "Don't believe me? Ask the dishes!" A dish filled with succulent desserts fills the screen -- and the smell of that food fills the air.
-- "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from Fantasia. As the errant brooms pour water into the sorcerer's home, the audience gets splashed in the face. A huge final splash segues into:
-- "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid. You think Ariel looked hot in ink-n-paint form...
-- "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" from The Lion King. CGI Simba looks adorable, you just want to reach out and pet him.
-- "You Can Fly" from Peter Pan. A gentle breeze flows through the theater as we take flight with Peter and Tink. This smoothly segues into:
-- "A Whole New World" from Aladdin. Donald finally gets back the hat, only to lose control of its' magic again...
At this point Mickey finally comes in to save the day, taking back the hat and stilling the storm, followed by an heroic version of "The Mickey Mouse Club March" that sends Donald literally flying across the theater and into the back wall!
Like I said, a DEFINITE D ticket at least. A Disneyland version would probably mix it up with a couple alternate scenes. "The Silly Song" from Snow White perhaps, or "A Very Merry Unbirthday" from Alice, or -- as I'd prefer -- "Bring Me Some Money Too" from Roger Rabbit.
Now that I think about it....if Disney can get a hold of that newfangled 3-D tech that George Lucas and Jim Cameron are experimenting with, you may not even need the "opera glasses" we use in our version at WDW. (Another Tomorrowland "you saw it here first!" innovation.)

na, i don't think anyone would perceive it as "The Future of Movies". it would be out of place in tomorrowland. no the best places for it are either toontown or the backlot in my opinion
you are right though...they should redo (update) fantasia for its like 50th anniversary or something to be in 3d CGI, it would be very cool (put it in the IMAX theaters)

btw, how great is that CGI? my gosh, the Disney characters never looked so good! it almost makes me wish that Disne would redo their animated classics in CGI form. almost. but it would be SOOOOOOO COOOL!!!!! right?
oh ya, did ya notice the hidden mickey made out of a tuba on the wall? right side of the curtains

I think Fantasyland is full. I can't think of a place where they can put it, unless they remove attractions. But that's a big no-no! Toontown will be a great location for PhilHarmagic. Maybe they could expand it to acomodate a theater big enough for the show.

This is my favorite Magic Kindgom attraction! It's such a great show and EVERYONE can enjoy it. Young and young-at-heart. It's visually stunning and funny, too!
When we saw it, our favorite new saying was mimic-ing (sp?) Minnie Mouse: No eat-ing, no drink-ing,

Never seen it.
I'm sure it's great.
Ok! I know a perfect place! In the Animation Building at Hollywood Pictures Backlot! Or In the Who Wants To Be A Millionare building (Why the heck do they have a FastPass for that? Why do they even have that in the first place?) Those two places would be PERFECT!:p

Ok! I know a perfect place! In the Animation Building at Hollywood Pictures Backlot! ...
I think the attraction should be in Disneyland. Toontown is perfect since there's only a couple of attractions in it (Mickey and Minnie's houses, Roger Rabbit, and the kiddie roller coaster [forgot the name]).

^^ It's called Gadget's Go Coaster. I think it might be a nice addition to Toontown, but where would they put it? Toontown is already pretty full as it is and most likely they would have to take out an attraction to accommodate Philharmagic. I really don't think I want to see my beloved Toontown changed...
Cutthroat CGM - Thank you so much for that detailed description! Now I want to see it even more! <3

Ya, I think that the Hollywood Pictures Backlot really is the best place for it. It would fit in perfectly if they made like a big theater building. you know what would be cool? If the building that would house the attraction was made to look like the Grauman's Chinese Theater on the outside. they could have the handprints of Disney characters in the courtyard, and besides the actual attarction is supposed to be in a high class theater anyways (technically an opera house, but movie theater would be just as good). it certainly would add some class and finesse to HPB, don't you agree?

I dont mean to be the spoiler here... and i too would be upset if they did this...
but there is plenty of room in fantasyland...... where the existing fantasyland theatre is.
linklewtt
09-17-2005, 01:20 PM
^^no, there's not any room in Fantasyland because that theater will be used by stage performances...sorry to be the spoiler
linklewtt
09-17-2005, 01:21 PM
Mickey Philharmagic has no reason to take over an existing attraction. There is plenty of room for it in DCA so Disneyland should not sacrifice its rides or attarctions or stage areas
ScaryTrees
09-17-2005, 01:26 PM
I think Hollywood Pictures Backlot needs it more because the first time I went to DCA I didnt even know that part of DCA existed so they deffinatly need something else there and TOT isnt enough and I know im not the only one who didnt know about that part either
linklewtt
09-17-2005, 01:30 PM
how could you not know about it? it's on the map and there's a big huge HOLLYWOOD PICTURES BACKLOT sign off to the left as you are entering.

I didnt grab a map and the first thing we did when we got there was go eat at the reasturaunt thing to the right then we went on Soarin' then to Paradise Pier for a while then we spent the rest of the day at Disneyland until the Electrical Parade I think that was in 2002

hehe sorry, i didnt mean to strike a nerve.
I was only suggesting that Disneyland could use it to replace fantasyland theatre. Im not saying they would, or will... just that they could.
From what I've read, Philharmagic in WDW has the largest movie screen ever at a Disney resort, and the attraction in Hong Kong is equally as impressive. Assuming that they would want to keep the grand dimensions, and the queue theme of the fantasy land concert hall, ...im just saying that i wouldnt be surprised if that notion came up in a board meeting somewhere.
But I agree with you in that its theme could also be adapted to the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. In fact, that would certainly bring new life to the area. But putting it in the millionaire building would mean that two 3D show attractions would be right next door to each other. I dont see Disney putting it in HPB without taking out MuppetVission.
linklewtt
09-17-2005, 05:14 PM
^^well they aren't gonna take out MV3D cuz they do have a contract with Jim Henson Co. but perhaps if they moved it over to the other side of Monsters Inc. besides i don't think it would be that big of a problem anyways to have 2 3D shows near each other. MV3D hasn't done that much to boost anything over there anyways.
but anywaus perhaps that notion of replacing the Fantasyland theater did come up, but it was probably quickly shot down. that theater is really old, made in the early 80s I believe. plus it is the only are where stage shows could go, if Disneyland decided to showcase others. they can't just depend on DCA's Hyperion right? so ya it's totally possible that they physically could replace the theater, but it's highly probable that they won't.
PeoplemoverMatt
09-17-2005, 09:40 PM
^ It may have more to do with the fact Disney owns the Muppets now. They thought it'd be in as high demand as MV3D is in MGM Studios. They were dead wrong.

if they replaced honey i shrunk the auidence with phillar magic it wouldn't fit in, and if they changed the fantasy land theatre they'd have to do a lot of work like add a roof and what would they do with the actual stage. A stage is not just a preforming area it has trapdoors, and is very expensive, they wouldn't just tear it down and what would they do with all the extra lights
if you havn't ever looked up at the tent/celing thing there are rows of lights they can't just let them sit in some wherhouse for years

oooh, wouldnt it be nice if they took this hiatus of Snow White at the Fantasy Land Theatre to refurbish it?
thanks for the description, Cutthroat CGM! i haven't been to wdw since 2001 so i missed it :-( it sounds like a great attraction and it would be a great addition to disneyland.

I think a good spot would be where that lagoon is that nobody uses! Where they have the painters. Close to It's A Small World. That works. PhilharMagic is a great thing, that was the only thing I thought was better about the World.

I agree with you k_peek_2000. I remember that I went to Mickey's Toontown and that was years before my last trip. I don't remember anything that I did in that land. I think if Disney did put Mickey's PhilharMagic in Mickey's Toontown, it will do that land some good. Especially that it'll have a great story to it. Like on Tomorrowland, Mr. Zelinsky (I have no idea if I spelled it right or wrong.) won the best scientist of the year award and Tomorrowland is the perfect place for him to accept it. Mickey Mouse will conduct his orchestra in his town. You see where I'm going with this?
linklewtt
02-10-2006, 10:11 PM
^^but Toontown has to close early everyday...i wanna go on PhilHarmagic all the time! besides, Mickey conducts the orchestra, but it's really more about Donald being trapped inside the magical world of fantasy and Disney classics...i.e. Fantasyland

I haven't seen it yet. But if they bring it here, I hope it doesn't take the place of a dark ride like it did in WDW. One of the many things that makes Disneyland so special is our abundance of dark rides!!!

^^i agree. if they brought it here, it shouldn't take the place of any dark ride because those aren't just dark rides, but ORIGINALS! Nothing really should be replaced in Fantasyland...all of the rides get very good attendance.

I think they should bring it to Cal too. Disneyland is hetting too Pixar and I think that a little classic Disney magic will set back on it's feet. Just a thought. How many of you think that all the recent Disney movies have been among the worst animated movies you have ever seen in your life? recent, meaning about from 2000 on.

I think it took the place of another show at WDW, not a ride. It was some sort of Lion King puppet show.

Yeh they should pop one in Californian Adventure.
Its fun in Florida except its always packed everytime i try to see it.
Oh and make it a little bit longer.
Like half an hour maybe.
There's so many classic songs they could put in it.
