I saw it on a Disney Store catalog. They're owned by the Disney Company. They would know.

Well, parade of dreams is for the 50th celebration so when it ends so should the parade...right? on the bright side we'll get a new parade to look foward to hopefully!
Fantasmic!kid

yeah, but not every parade has show stops.

Yes, but since POD has been so succesful maybe they will create a new parade with new show stops and it will be even better.By then we all may (dare I say) bored with the POD anyway... J/K LOL

Maybe we should post some ideas in "So You want to be an Imagineer"
I moved this to Rumors for the time being. The 50th is an 18 month celebration that does not end until Christmas 2006. I think it would be unusual for the Parade to be removed before the end of the celebration.
And I believe the Disney Store is not owned by Disney anymore. It was sold to another company which name escapes me.
If one of our CMs can confirm this into we can move the thread back to Disneyland.

Isn't the Happiest Celebration on Earth 18 months? I read somewhere that it was and according to my calculations, the celebration began in May 2005, which means it will end in December 2006!

Disney Store is owned by "The Children's Place", and is NOT part of the Disney company. They sell LICENSED Disney merchandise, meaning that it's not made by Disney. I don't think they even HAVE a catalog.
The 50th Celebration goes through DECEMBER of 2006.
The Parade Of Deams WILL NOT END 8/06

It had been said before it even started that the parade will last for a few years much like parade of stars did(and this is afterall that parade's sequel ;)).
That's rumor too, but last we'd heard that was the case. Only reason it might end before December next year is if it goes on the holiday hiatus shrug :P.
//Then again the floats might collapse on themselves before December of this year at this rate

^ If it goes beyond the 50th, then they're going to need to ditch the "Welcome" and everything else 50th from it. I don't think I can see a PoD without anything 50th there. Those floats will be lucky if they make to this December much less next December & beyond! Can't refurb a Parade if its running everyday, unless of course you leave floats out as has been observed taking place.
Anyways, the point of this rumor is squashed so we should probably get rid of it as not to mislead/confuse people.

An alternate non-50th spiel is easy to do. Block party bash already has one to begin with. If they change Julie Andrews speech, there's nothing in the parade that wouldn't seem like a normal disney parade as of late. I always call it Parade of Stars v2.0 because that's what it seems like to me.
Oh, and it was only missing the last 2 floats that time you were there because the 2nd to last float broke down and since there isn't much room back there behind Main Street it blocked the last float from getting out... Not much they could do to stop the parade from happening with 6 of the floats already out ;)

^ I guess not, but that still just looked really goofy. When some attractions do do rolling refurbs and then that happens, it jades peoples point of view.

I have no inside information, but I think it's safe to say with 99.9% certainty that the Parade of Dreams will last longer than August of 06. First of all, here's exactly what the magazine says "When: Now appearing twice daily through August of 2006." It did not say the parade would end in 06 nor that a new parade would debut. It said the parade would be appearing twice a day through August of 06. After Labor Day it will go to one performance a day. Secondly, the creators of the parade said it was built to run 5 years. I don't think Disney would spend all that money on the parade only to replace it after 2 years.
I think it's safe to say it will be around for a few more years. I'm happy with that because I love it a lot and it has proven to be very popular.

The latest Disney Catalog. Each issues has a few articles about half way through the magazine. The latest issue has information about the Parade of Dreams. You used to be able to get the catalogs at the Disney Store, but I don't know if that's true anymore. You can request one through disneydirect.com
It's funny this thread was started because the first time I read the article I knew someone would post saying the POD was leaving in August of 06!

I don't think they printed any false information. Disney usually focuses their marketing on the Summer season. I think that's what they are doing here.

are you guys really really that in love with the PoD? i mean i like it a lot, but after 3 times seeing it, i'm over it. and since it has not yet been dark enough to make good use of the built in lights on the floats, i can't see myself wanting to see it everytime i go to disneyland, which is a lot. but do you guys feel that way? can you honestly say that you love to see it EVERYTIME you go to disneyland? it's not wearing on you?
on a different note, the Magic Kingdom day parade is TERRIBLE! i'm glad that disneyland didn't import that stinker!

I love the parade, but I don't have to see it everytime. No, it's not wearing on me. Sheesh it's only been around for a few months. I think the POD has a lot of repeatability. Also, in the off season it will be shown at night. It's even better at night.
I'm glad it's not going away soon.

When did you see it? That makes a big difference. It was MUCH better before the accident, when all the floats were present and the show stops were in place. Now it's lost that theming, really.
I have video of the full, original version on tape, from when I was on my College Program.

oh wow i had no idea that they even had show stops...well actually that's not true. i have the soundtrack to it, and ya i was wondering like how Pinnochio could say all his stuff AND turn into a "real " boy. is that what happened in the priginal version? that's what happenes on the soundtrack. but i saw it this summer and it wasn't anything special. seemed kind of oudated to me, or just like something to have during the day for the sake of having a parade. but i guess the priginal was much better huh? what accident occured?
xfkirsten
09-09-2005, 08:57 PM
Yeah, there were show stops for each float (the commercial soundtrack only includes about half of the parade). In echc globe, during the show stop, there was originally a lot of "snow" that went up. Unfortunately, it clogged the ventilation in the globes, so they had to cut that effect. SOme characters underwent a transformation (Pinocchio became a "real boy", the Snow Queen became the Wicked Witch, etc) They'd also bring kids out into the street to dance with the characters.
Also, the current princess float was totally gone. Instead, it was three connected globes (Cindy/Charming, Belle/Beast, Ariel/Eric) on one looong float. It fit the theming a lot better - the current float is very out-of-place.
The accident that occured was a performer that was run over and killed by the princess float, just before stepoff (out of sight of guests). Info here (http://www.themeparkinsider.com/news/response.cfm?ID=1516). It was after that accident that most of the changes were made.

The show stops I believe were cut because of problems getting kids out of the street and back to their parents. IMHO, they should have choreographed it instead and left them in. Although I do understand that they don't like to take the time to retrain for stuff like that. As for the princess float leaving, I have a feeling it was because they felt it was unsafe to have a float that long, where the back was so far from the driver.

This (http://dreamport2.tripod.com/newpage1.htm) page has some photos of it when it was used in the old Magical Moments Parade. Scroll down to the parade photos of the float with Mickey.
This (http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/photosdct6.html) was the original princess float for Share a Dream Come True.

I was actually really dsappointed w/ POD.
It was a parade celebrating some Disney movies, not the park or the 50th!
The only float that represented this was the one w/ the fairies and Peter at Main Street Train Station. Each Float should've either represented a Disney land or park attraction! B/c not all characters were used. Very disappointed to not see Aladdin & Jasmine or some other great characters.

Don't forget the teacups with tweede-dee & dum.... but you are otherwise very correct in your assessment (IMO). I feel the same way about the McDonalds toys... it's not about the characters, it's about the theme park.
Marketing just doesn't get it.
..but that's not a big surprise anymore.

The finale float of the POD also ties into the park. I really think if people would look past the fact that the parade does not have floats from each land they would enjoy it more. I think they wanted to save that for Remember. It would be redundant to have both the parade and fireworks feature the same thing. Not having the parade feature each land gives the 50th more variety. Besides I think the POD connects very well to the "Welcome Home"/"Happiest Homecoming" theme of the 50th.

It wouldn't be redundant to do a tribute to Disneyland in the parade as well as Remember. There's a LOT about Disneyland to go around.
It just seems that whenever they want to make a parade for one of the Disneyland theme parks, the first thing they do is list out a bunch of movie characters they want to use, then think up floats for them that they can link to some theme. And as a result, just about every single disney parade float is centered about some disney movie character regardless of what the parade is about.
Hurray! Another Little Mermaid float where Sabastian gets to sing Under the Sea! That's never been done before! (If you ask me, stuff like that is far more redundant than having both a parade and a fireworks show be tributes to the park.)

I think they should have a parade theme that is sort of like POD with all of the diff. movies but with diff. rides like space mountain or indiana jones and they should dance or something to a cool disney mix!

I just miss the Main Street Electrical Parade. Dont tell me i coulda seen it in DCA....its just not the same.....
its true home is in Disneyland.
im going for Christmas this year...i wonder how good this POD really is.
I dono if anyone else can remember it...but that undeniable feeling you get once the music starts in and u just feel the ultimate giddiness. Its ridiculously magnificant. I feel almost silly when i listen to the song and start to smile and chuckle uncontrollably but its just something that happens. lol.
anyone else get that?

^^^oh yeah, me too! I was definitely dissappointed not to see Aladdin and Jasmine in the PoD, too, to whoever mentioned that earlier. Looking forward to seeing them in the Christmas Fantasy parade, provided that they're still there. And speaking of which, although i like the parade as is, to celebrate more of DISNEYLAND itself and less of the movies, i think they should have done something like they did with the christmas parade, with the characters tied into the theme of the parade, not the other way around. Like we could have a tribute to Frontierland with Woody and Jesse and a cowboy themed Goofy.
As for the rumor that the parade is leaving after the 50th, last time i was at DL i asked a castmember and he confirmed that it was leaving when the 50th was over. So maybe after the 50th we'll get a more DL-themed parade...

well the parades is sorta about disneyland. all of the characters in the parade either has a ride or has been in a show in disneyland.

Hello,
As from my source, that comes deep within the Disneyland entertainment department itself, Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams will NOT be leaving at the end of summer 2006. The reason that the magazine stated that, and that other cast members may have been saying that, is because that is what they want people to believe. Not in a mean way, but simply that it is one of the premier offerings for the 50th, and it is being marketed that way, and it is part of the whole marketing plan to get people at the resort for the 50th. if they flat out told everyone that the parade would be around for a long time, then the marketing objective just doesn't hold out the same. (not saying that the parade is the prime focus, but you get what I mean).
My inside sources told me that the parade is really built to simply be the new parade for Disneyland, yes, part of and for the 50th, but overall to simply be the new parade. It was built and planned for a five year run, as well as Block Party Bash. That doesn't mean that will happen, but that is the plan.
The plan is for the parade to run till the end of the 50th in august 06 running absolutely everyday. My guess, and this is just my guess, is that after the 50th, the parade will go down for a much needed thorough refurb (though it needs a bit of it now), and will come back probably sometime in the next year 2007, in the spring or summer having been refurbed and redressed. This means a good refurb (as we all know what that entails), new fabrics, new flowers, sometimes all new costumes, and anything else that needs replacing. Other changes could occur, but I don't know what those would be yet.
Overall, Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams will be around for a good long time (just after the 50th it probably will not run as constant as it does now).
So do not worry.
I hope the Block Party will last as long as well. cross your fingers.

I really liked this parade! I prefer the evening showing, as all the lights are just so magical! I loved the different effects (the "Russians" on the bungees, the cards bouncing around on the trampolines, etc). I loved seeing my favorite characters and some interesting effects throughout. It was a really great show, and so beautiful! Will definitely stand the test of time, and last well beyond the 50th.
