View Full Version : Test Track coming to DCA

the latest news i have heard about DCA is that Test Track, one of the hit rides at EPCOT will be coming. i know what you're thinking, how would it fit in at DCA? well my source says that he heard that a new land is in development focusing around cars or something. now this brings up another question: why would a land in DCA be based around cars? California is not known for its cars lol. but ya just putting this rumor out there for anyone to add to it.

^ Your wrong...this is actually a rumor started by Al Lutz at MiceAge, and its been floatin around for a month.
And it wont be themed around just ANY cars...it would be themed around THE "Cars", the final Pixar movie. :icon_evil .
It would be housed in the biggest showroom that Disney has ever created, and contain two sides, for higher capacity.
I personally disaprove of the "Cars" theme. I am all for a ride utilizing the Test Track technology...but no Pixar "Cars".

08-12-2005, 02:20 AM
^ Well thats not exactly correct either. What Lutz was going for in regards to Cars was that a Cars themed ride might be coming to DCA. I don't recall him ever giving any hints that it would be similar to Test Track @ Epcot.
Nice job of pitching it there linklewtt, but before I buy in to that, I'm going to want to know your source of course  . After all we can't be going around making erronious claims now can we?

Well, although a rumor, it seems that if anything that involves cars will most likely be themed from that movie, I think if this rumor was true, it would be around Mulholland Madness seeing it is about cars, but I could be wrong, if they did make a new area, where would it be?

He may have just expressed his opnion in the wrong way. Incase your to lazy to find the article here it is:
And just so you know Matt Ouimet isn't only concerning himself with DCA window dressing, there is a new DCA E Ticket currently making its way through the intense budgetary approval process. And what a mammoth attraction it is if it gets built as planned! Themed around next summer's Pixar release "Cars", it would be a giant E Ticket housed in a building bigger than Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean or Indiana Jones. Placed out in the Timon lot, this new E Ticket would require some theme changes to the current areas of the Park that would lead to this new Park area, and it's a possible way to start edging the park away from its original California theme.
The ride system for the Cars attraction utilizes an updated version of Epcot's GM Test Track, but with double tracks snaking through the building for a much increased hourly capacity.

^ Well...hmmm...sounds an awful lot like Test Track doesn't it. It's still one of those ideas in the works that has more of a chance to not happen than it does to happen. If I go by the precedent set when uber-projects like this one come up for approval, a giant NO! is what's most likely in its future. I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but that is the precedent. Nice catch taronga, thanks for doing that for us who are "too lazy to find the article" although maybe you could have worded that a little better.

Couple things here folks,
First of all, Items in the Rumor Mill are Rumors... Whether you hear them on a website, from a CM selling churros or from your grandmother. The goal is not to dispell the rumor, but to DISCUSS the rumor. If you feel the person is wrong, you're encouraged to DISCUSS the rumor, not shame and ridicule the person posting it.
Also, when you DO post a rumor, be prepared to back up your statements and discuss the rumor with some knowledge. Simply posting "I heard Matt Oiumet is letting DCA go to prove a point" is NOT discussion and is merely stirring the pot of rumor, and typically these are the kinds of posts that deteriorate into "You're wrong and I'm right!".
The Rumor Mill was created to DISCUSS these rumors we see on other websites, hear from grandma, etc.

And I thought Rocket Rods was an updated Test Track ride system..
Lets hope they can afford the banked turns this time.

i can answer that from the same source i heard this rumor from, who heard the rumor from that article that was posted. behind the Tower of Terror there is a parking lot. my dad works at disneyland and he said that this is true, there is a rarely used parking lot back there. i'm not sure if it is used for busy days or something or if it's for cast members or whatever, but it's there. ok so that's where they are putting it. a pathway will be made from ToT to get to the place. if you go to ToT and get a fastpass you will notice a wall or gate or something right there on the right hand side if you are looking at the ride. that is where i think they will make an opening, or they might make one on the other side, but i can't remember if there is room. anyways if you want to see the parking lot for yourself (as i wanted to) look for it as you are coming out of Aladdin the musical. if you are high enough on the stairs, you'll see it beyond ToT. this should prove my legitamacy in my postings!

ya what matt said is true as well as what i said earlier. the timon parking lot, located behind ToT is very large, i think it also touches the back of A Bug's Land. it's rarely used since the parking structure offers more than enough room, so it's the likliest place where a test trackish ride would be built

So no more Timon parking lot if this rumor goes ahead!!! :( Man I love that parking lot. I went to the DLR soooooo many times on my vacation last summer and I only ever parked in the Mickey and Friends parking structure once!!! I was always directed into the Timon parking lot. It'd be weird with it not there anymore but I'd rather a ride like Test Track go there (Test Track ROCKS!!!) - it's make the park so much better. Plus, it always seemed weird that they had a parking structure then a parking lot. Why not just build another level or two to the structure?! I suppose there's some kinda reason I guess someone will know but hey. I hope this rumor does go ahead though. DCA needs all the help it can get. It's still my favourite Disney park though!!!!

That would be pretty cool if they could utilize the Timon parking lot for a new attraction! I agree, DCA needs a lot of help and putting in a new and exciting ride like the Test Track might help boost attendance. I still want to see Stitch's Great Escape in either Disneyland or DCA...

:icon_lol: That'd bo sooo cool!! They could theme it around the 5 or the 101 or something to make it tie in with the California theme - if they're going to keep that that is. I hope they do!!! :( Although with the 101's reputation and the fact that Test Track is the fastest ride in WDW... maybe not!!!! :icon_lol: If only you could drive that fast on the 101 right!!! :icon_lol:

I have. It depends on what section of the 101 and what time. Anywhere near Hollywood, Van Nuys and, well, LA in general is not a good place to be doing excesive speeding. And in Santa Barbara to. I hate how it bottlenecks there. Now Ventura to Oxnard and Camarillo and over the grade all the way to Calabasas is pretty easy going for a drive. I don't like to take my car that fast, but there have been a few times I have ignored the posted signs. Especially on the way to Vegas.

I guess because I've only exited it on the major exits (well, major tourist exits) I have experienced the worst parts of it. I used to take the Sunset exit a lot so I guess that's why I experienced it so bad. Forgive me if I sound a little dumb explaining it all by what you can see when you're on it but I'm from England and haven't been to CA since last Summer - and our roads are soooo different - we have roundabouts. :icon_lol: Anyway, the part where you bear left in a circle and you begin to see Downtown LA and then you go under the roads and there's all the murals on the walls... that's the part I thought was the worst. I sat in traffic there for hours throughout my vacation. I dunno what you call that part of it though so I had to describe it. :icon_lol:
Back on track though... thinking about it, a land (maybe not a park - I still want good ol' DCA based on good ol' CA ) based on California Freeways might not be THAT bad. If they decide to take that route that is and not go all Pixar again with Cars!!!

Disney already themed about 95% of Rock n' Roller Coaster's actual coaster on the LA freeways, and that thing's in FL. I thought that was a bit odd, but it was cool to see some stuff from home being on my own that far away.

Doesn't mean they can't do it again!! I think a new TT themed around CA's Freeways (along with the original theming too) would be cool. And DCA desperately needs something to pull in more guests. I say forget DL and concentrate on DCA for a while. I mean DL isn't going to be short of guests anytime soon.

That would be better in Tland. They could build it in the caresoul building and they could build a track that comes out of it. But yeah. Cool.

WOW, were they planning to have 4 rides combine onto that area, and have the train and jungle cruise come into the ride for a little bit, kinda like how the train goes inside splash mountain, looking at that is cool.
couldnt they possibly do test track on the rocket rods/PM track, maybe change it around a little but it could work

Looking at the concept art you can see why they held back on doing alot of that. Not only the cost but it would have taken up more space then they might have been wanting to use. After all they did have DCA and DTD in the plans I'm sure. It was probably about the money more so. Could you imagine how cool it would be if it was that way though? Way to cool. I think disney should do somethng like that with a few different rides in one. Good concept.
