Visions Fantastic is slowly recovering from our site restoration. The Gallery is open, but of course, all the links to the audio and video files have changed. We are updating links throughout the site and will hopefully have them all updated in the next few days. Visiting the main page http://visionsfantastic.com/main.php you will find all the multimedia links are now working again.
Please don't report broken links for now as we are trying to take care of them in an orderly fashion. By the weekend if links still aren't working, use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.

We had some downtime the evening and morning of September 7th and 8th and here's what I've been able to make of things.
The site is getting hammered hard, especially by Google searches. While we don't see that in the numbers on the boards (currently active users and guest, etc) the numbers on the server itself are staggering.
I've gone through and changed some resources on the server around and hopefully we can avoid the site going down altogether, but it's really no fault of the server or the webhost at this point; and I suspect, even though the hard disk was replaced, the real reason is the sheer amount of data we go through at any given time.
As I said, we will continue to watch things and tweak the settings as needed and as always, we'll keep you informed.
In the future we may have to look into a more robust server for VF (with more RAM and operating power).

New Features!
We have several new features to announce, including:
1. Spell Check! You can now install a spell checker that will integrate into the message posting system.
2. Mark as Read is now handled through the database and not by cookies. This should be useful for people who check the boards from multiple locations.
3. Signature settings are now enforced! (A system fore registered users now enforces changes to your signature that do not meet with our criteria).
Many other new features will be popping up over the next few days. Bear with us as we iron out the bugs!

Be aware that Visions Fantastic will be closed for several days this week as we finish migrating to our new server! Your patience and support during this transition will be most helpful!
Chris
11-10-2005, 10:51 AM
Visions Fantastic is now back online with the new server. We will be watching over the next few days to see how things are running and may need to take the site offline if any issues develop.
The Gallery is currently closed but should be open by this afternoon. We're just about completed re-uploading the 3+ gigs of content back into it.
Most notably, some of you will notice we have removed the WMA audio downloads from the site. This was a decision a long-time coming and we feel it's best to protect the future of the website. We will, however, continue to host audio material that was recorded live at the parks and hope to offer more of these kinds of materials in the future.
Along with this, we will have a strict policy regarding copyrighted materials in your personal galleries and you may want to remove these materials as soon as possible or we will have to remove them for you.
All avatars should be working normally, but if you're having trouble let us know.
Many areas of the website will be updated in the next week (and several areas have already been updated) in preparations for Disneyland's Christmas season.
Thanks to everyone your patience during our transition, and we hope to offer you even more in the future!
Chris

The Gallery is now open. If you have a personal folder, you may want to go through and make sure all of your photos are intact.
If you're missing anything, PM me directly and let me know whats missing and I'll do my best to retrieve them or figure out the issue.
Keep in mind that all Audio materials have been removed from the Gallery. Some of these will be emerging as Flash audio on many of the attraction pages, they however will no longer be available for download.

We have an opening on the VF Staff for the following position:
VF News Desk
A staff member is needed to assist with the automated news retrieval system (Tom Morrow) and find relevent topics for discussion, rename/edit topics as needed and post additional news items as they become available from a variety of sources.
The position requires daily access to VF and email. User must be a VF member in good standing with excellent writing skills, spelling and correct grammar usage.
This is a custom staff position and is NOT a Mod or Admin position, meaning they will only have access to the tools neccessary for the job. The position may, however, lead to a full-time Mod appointment, in certain circumstances.
I cannot stress the importance of good writing skills and attention to detail.
To apply:
Send a PM to Chris, with the following:
1. Why you want to be a VF Staff Member.
2. Send 2 examples of Disneyland-related news stories that you have re-written and/or condensed into a single paragraph.
3. What times you're able to visit the site on a regular basis: (mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, etc)
Please be aware that we will base our decision off prior forum behavior and your writing skills.
Deadline to turn in your application PM is Saturday, May 12th, Noon.
If the position is filled, we will make a formal announcement sometime Sunday evening.
Thank You, and good luck!

I am proud to announce the latest member of th VF Staff, Ezra!
Ezra will be managing the News Forum on VF's discussion boards, organizing and summarizing the existing content there and helping 'Tom Morrow', our automated news system be more efficient and easier to use, along with filtering out off-topic material.
Ezra's fantastic writing and organizational skills (be sure to check out his latest Userpage) were a deciding factor in our decision to make him a member of the VF Staff.
There were many that applied and I encourage everyone to keep watching the VF boards, since we're planning a large expansion of VF this summer, so stay tuned!

My first goal as News Team Leader is to make the Visions Fantastic News Center as user-friendly and interesting as possible. I've made several changes to the Visions Fantastic News Center that I'd like to share with you.
BETTER ORGANIZATION
In some cases there are several good stories on the same topic. I have decided to merge some of these news threads so that the stories can be viewed together as a group. So if you want to follow a particular ongoing news story, the latest news item will be added to the existing thread for that topic. Likewise, reviews and promotional pieces for a particular movie or event will be collected into a single thread, so that you won't have to navigate several threads to follow a single topic.
Google alerts occasionally arrive that contain three or four unrelated stories as a single post. When this happens I will separate them into individual threads so that you can post replies and discuss the stories without any confusion about which story everyone is discussing. I want it to be easy for you to find interesting stories here, and to discuss them here too.
QUALITY CONTROL
Each story sent to us from Google will be quality checked to make sure that it's a relevant story, and not one that just so happens to mention Disney off-handedly. I'll work to ensure that the links are valid, and the brief description of the story makes sense and is accurate. Some of these alerts come when I'm away from the keyboard, many in the dead of night. If you see a thread that's just titled Google Alert, that would mean that it hasn't been quality checked yet. If there's a problem with that particular alert rest asured that it will be corrected sometime during the day.
MORE NEW STORIES
Now that it's all organized, I'll be hunting down more stories to add to the News Center. I've got a hot list of sources that I follow closely, and whenever I find a good story, I send it to Tom Morrow, our news bot, to post for me. At the bottom of each alert it will either read sent from Google alerts or sent from Ezra.
EMPTY POSTS?
There's one more thing you should know. If you open a thread and the first post has nothing in it, that only means that I'm editing that particular story at the same time that you're trying to view it. In most cases it's a story that I found myself and sent in, so I'd encourage you to check back again in a few minutes.
I hope you like the improvements I've made to the News Center. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the News Center. It's a pleasure to serve you as the Visions Fantastic News Team Leader.
Thanks!
Ezra

VF will be rolling out a new program starting later this month. This new program is called Junior Members.
Junior Members are VF Members who are aged 13 to 18. Because of upcoming legislation, the privacy and protection of minors is becoming a major issue on the internet. Pending lawsuits to websites like MySpace have caused us to re-think the way people communicate with eachother on VF.
Existing members that fit into the age category (under 18) will have certain communications moderated or removed. We are also looking forward to adding new features especially for our younger members (for instance, Junior Members will have the ability to have a custom user title, a feature that's been previously reserved for Premium Members). Junior Members will also have free access to the VF Penny Arcade, where they can go head to head against eachother and Premium Members. We have other new features and areas planned, as well. Keep watching this forum for more information!

As many of you have now realized, the board asks you upon log in to update your profile with a required option.
The new option simply asks you if you are 18 years of age or older. This question is asked of every VF member, regardless of the information that is in your profile birthdate.
If you feel you've made a mistake and wish to correct the option, you need to contact a Mod or Admin right away so we can make the neccessary changes to your account.
We will begin migrating underage users over the Junior Membership in the next few days. We expect some bugs and issues that may need to be addressed, and we encourage everyone to be patient during this process.
Your safety and privacy is very important to us. We feel you'll enjoy the new additions to your account (free access to the arcade and a private board just for teens) along with added features we will be implementing soon.
There will be some adjustment as some of your previous options may change or may have been altered from what you were originally used to. We are making every effort to make VF enjoyable and safe for everyone.
