BAD NEWS
Some Idiots vandalized the 2nd ramp down inside the
queue of Space Mountain Yesterday
(late last night, it was fresh, as the plastic wall coating material was all over the floor still).
vandalization picture...
click here for image (http://members.dslextreme.com/users/protostarsdlp/img/SM-VAND8-5-05.jpg)
it's bad enough to go on POTC and see spitwads everywhere and gum
stuck up on the brick archways, but this really sucks.
Some people have no respect for anything....
If I ever saw somebody doing any of this to any attraction, I would personal
drag them out of the park and kick their 'A--'!!!!
makes you wish they had even more security cameras up.
(it's a shame they need any!)
This was original posted as a follow up to 111702's thread "Space Mountain Review"
But as I thought more about it, I felt this needed a little more attention of the VF Members.

That's a really big vandlized wall, WTH is wrong with these people, I want to kick out all of the rudes guests and litterheads to the gates and never come back. They must be dirty people, they damaged Disneyland Property, that wall is was fresh and new, and they F*** ruining it. No one cares about the damage on the wall of the new refurbished ride? When you break something, you must PAY it. I hate when people litter in theme parks and nature. Human flith....
Remember, what Walt said about the park that it will be clean, shiny, nice, litter-free, all lights on, and vandalism free.

This really makes me sick. Some people are SUCH losers!! Why on earth anybody would vandalize anything, much less a ride people had to wait 2 1/2 years to ride again, is beyond me. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to the question, "How do we prevent this from happening again?"

Hopefully the culprits can be caught & prosecuted. I just don't get why people do this, but then again I don't get why people do a lot of things.

It is also sad that people in this world are STUPID enough to ruin a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW WALL ON A BRAND SPANKIN' NEW RIDE!:icon_excl
I went on the Haunted Mansion (10 times) on my last visit about a week ago, and noticed that the Stretching Galley's wallpaper was all torn up and vandalized! What made me even MORE mad was that the guests I were riding with (a couple of times this happened) were complete JERKS! They screamed, "Marco! POLO!" through the ENTIRE attraction, ruining the experience, screamed REALLY loud and laughed REALLY REALLY loud to annoy people, AND they took FREAKIN' FLASH PICTURES! NOBODY DOES THAT ON MY FAVORITE RIDE! Didn't they even LISTEN to the Ghost Host!? ("No flash pictures, please.")

Why couldn't we write a letter to the suits at Disneyland and tell them what people posted on here (the vandalization) plus all the harrassing things that have happened to people while at Disneyland and ask them to do something about it? Is it possible that they're not aware of it and they need to be notified so they can do something to stop it? I mean, in a business sense Disneyland is one huge commodity and if people destroy it, they will lose money. Anybody think this would do any good or this is just me being hopeful that the wrongs can be righted??

Sounds like a plan to me! It's too bad that people feel the need to go and ruin something that does not belong to them. What is wrong with people. It seems like there is less and less respect in this world. This is sad. I remember someone saying that BLAB had been vandalized right after it had opened too! Sad, sad, sad.

We ourselves can't really do anything to bring whoever did this to justice if park security didn't catch them in the act. What we can do is use this as motivation to discourage others from doing the same or similar childish acts to anything not just things of Disneyland which we value. I would encourage everyone out there enraged by this act to put that energy towards discouraging anyone who would do that in the future from doing the same or similar acts.

Oh my stars! When I saw the photo, I cried for hours. What I dont get is this, What about the people who were in line either behind or in front of these jerks. It is everyones duty to turn in punks like this. They couldnt have had someone walk out of line and have a cast member call for security? Thats what I would have done. Why waste precious oxygen talking to losers like this. Vandalism ruins the experience for everyone. Just you wait. Someday I'll be head of Disney security and stuff like this wont happen.

I totally agree. There had to be other people around that watched this happen. Were they too scared to do anything or just didn't care? These were obviously some very immature children, even if they were older, who more than likely walk around beating up phone booths and pulling up flowers too. Cowards period. Someone could have, and should have, gone to find a CM right away or followed them until they could get a CM's or security's attention. The last trip to DL there were 2 kids in front of us in the line for Big Thunder shooting spitwads of paper through straws at people in line ahead of them. I looked at my brother and he looked at me and we each grabbed the straws out of their mouths as they went to shoot again. They turned in shock and I asked them if there was a problem. No answer lol. They continued in line like everyone else; normally. Little jerks. lol.

Kinda like the other day here in my neighborhood. A few punks pulled over in a vacant lot and were going to dump some large appliance outta their vehicle. I just stopped in the middle of the street and watched them. They saw me watching, so drove off without dumping. Maybe when we see people doing 'stuff' at DL, just stand there and watch them. Probably don't have to say much, just be sure they see you watching. Just be careful !! Some people stupid enough to do stuff like that , will do anything.

But HOW do they ban them for the year? Are their faces on wanted posters plasted all over Disneyland so CM's can watch for them? I think this would be pretty tough to enforce.

yea, it would be too hard to find everyone doing bad things, because no matter how hard it is to relize this...tons of people are a** holes, and they will do this no matter where they go. The best that we can do is try to catch as many as we can and make them pay. I do like that whole ban them FOR-E-VER thing tho!

08-07-2005, 01:13 PM
As far as banning goes, if works the same there as here, they are leagally 'trespassed' from the property. That way, if secuity sees and recognizes them, and most security is good at that, they can be immediatley asked to leave. If they refuse, the person can be arrested for trespassing on private property. If they do it enough, it is considered a misdemeanor and they can face up to a year in jail.
There are people who are 'trespassed' permently. For most inteligent people the threat is enough.
Problem is most of the people who do this sort of things are young punks who think it's cool or fun. They will either grow out of it, or they won't in which case they do worse and worse things. If we don't tolerate it, say something or do something when we see them, they might grow out of it faster.
When Sleeping Beautys walk through was still open, I remember a CM telling me how often they had to replace the glass because some punk carved their name or words into it.
I'm glad to see, however, so many of you who have stood up to these people and tried to stop them. Gives me hope, you know.

The banning needs to work the same way as that Twilight Zone episode. If anyone thought any negative thoughts around the kid, the kid would "banish" them to a field.

Mission Bay Park every weekend, particularly 3 day weekends, look like a landfill afterwards, it burns me up to see it, and this isn't even an amusement park. Are people THAT lazy that they can't find a garbage can??
If I saw someone vandalize the park I would either follow them until I see a security guard or if someone in my group has a digital camera (mine uses film) I would take his picture then show it to security.

Man, I think that vandalizing Disneyland is just so inconsiderate to all of us Disney Fanatics that enjoy the park. if I saw one of those little devils. I would be after them in a split second. I wonder what they would think when they got caught "Well Nobody told me that I couldn't do that" such immature people. It would be really comical if a lot of people saw a vandal in the act and all you see is a flock of Disneyland Fanatics (like us on VF) chasing down on or two kids. That would be the day.
P.S. Don't vandalize Disneyland property that. You will get caught and it wouldn't be all fun and games when you get caught.

I can't stand seeing the vandalism in places like DL. They try so hard to make things look good and you feel good. That is the kinda thing that makes prices go up or at least helps them go up. My mom was very strict about having respect for places we went to. She also carried a wooden spoon in her purse for those moments of disrespect or just being out of hand, and believe me, she was not afraid to use it. Those things can hurt. Tagging is another stupid and useless form of showing how much of an idiot you are. Great, you marked your made up territory that you don't even own and will never own. So i guess we can call them dogs. At least when a dog marks it's territory, it gets recycled back into the earth and helps out. Vandalism does not help out.

I LOVE the way you phrased that! :icon_lol: If it was ever at all plausible, all of us should get together and form a "VF Security" team or something like that, with each person at a certain area. At least then it would be legal to use force to stop these idiots. I'm never in Disneyland enough, though, but I did run a military-style force of about 300 people a few years back.

Really? Why?
It must be hard to patrol Disney in the summer, considering how many people go there. I think, all things considered, they do a pretty good job. The rest of us just need to help out when we can, try and stop it if we see it happening.
But, I think the key is parental control, or lack of it.
hawkster9542
08-09-2005, 01:14 PM
Actually, I don't really patrol Disneyland. I was just saying that I don't go to the park enough TO patrol it, though it would be neat if I did...
The security guys do as good of a job as they can with the resources that they have. I really give it up to those guys, as they can keep the park great without being everywhere at once.
Also, You are right. Parental control is definitely a key, but only if the idiots have their parents with them, unfortunately. And about the army thing... it was more of a protection service, though it kind of worked like a military. It was great while it lasted, though!

Vandalism has to do with the target audience of certain rides... things like splash mountain and space mountain... the "BIG" kid rides attract idiot teenagers. IN ALL HONESTY, we know a five year old didn't do that. Sadly, I've never been there to do anything when something was happening. I've never witnessed it firsthand; I've only seen the aftermath, like countless other people.

The other thing I really hate people doing, besides vandalism and littering, is ruining a ride experience. On 7/17 there were these teenage boys in front of us on Pirates. They started rocking the boat where there were no cameras (i.e. my assumption is that they are "regulars") and splashing water back on us. We finally told them that was enough and there were other people enjoying the attraction. That shut them down, especially an adult telling them. They may have called me every name in the book after that (like I care...) but they sure as heck stopped. I've also seen this happen with rocking on Small World too and teenage boys laughing at how "dumb" the ride was. Well, then...get off! Better yet...don't get on! Ugh. Parental control (or lack of) is exactly the problem. My kids would NEVER do something to destroy another's property or experience because they know the fury of mom  (it would be mainly disappointment) and consequences that would follow :icon_shoc

I know what you mean. Growing up, I knew that if I pulled anything like that I would never see daylight again. I have nothing against 'Time Outs' I use them myself. But I see so many people at grocery stores and malls just let their kids run wild and they say "What can I do?"
Punks who enjoy destroying things, 12 year olds who think it's cool, where are their families to stop them?

They're alone because their parents "trust them."
Yeah, really great idea there to trust a 12-year-old vandal. The police LOVE handling kids like that!

When I went to Disneyland in June like 5 kids were beatting Push, it got so bad that he was almost yelling at the parents who were just watching to make their kids stop beating on him.
OMG, not Push!!! Push is awesome and does not (Repeat) does not deserve that kinda punishment. It was bad enough that lady ran away from him when she threw her trash in him but to mess with Push is wrong!!! There got that out of my system.

I will always say something. If people are talking or taking flash pictures in a ride like POTC where I have direct contact, I will calmly ask them to be a little quieter or inform them that flash photography is forbidden. Sometimes I have to wait until a ride is over to let them know that due to their disrepectful behavior, they ruined the experience for others. It's more difficult if you don't know who it is like the Marco Polo incident in the HM.
Any act of vandalism must be reported to a cast member. I've trailed someone while my husband finds one, keeping in touch by cell phone. Once the CM was there & we explained the situation, we left them to handle it offering our information if they need a witness.
Bottom line is we have no authority. Getting in someone's face, especially if they are rude enough to vandalize or steal, can turn ugly. Use a calm tone, the "I'm very dissapointed in you" one that every parent has used and every child has heard along with direct eye contact. People who have no respect for themselves or a treasure like Disneyland are cowards & looking them in the eye with a calm tone works for me more often than not.

I had to get a kid off of Push once. I know the guy that does Push and he just kind of gave me a 'get the kid off' look. So he made Push move over to me and hide behind me and go. "Dayna be my body guard!" And I was like, hugging him as he went back to the little green alien's shop.

I was at DL July 17th from 5am till 12:30am. It was the first time I saw PUSH. I found it to be sooo cool. Seeing so many kids tripping out trying to figure out how it works is so fun. he came out during VF's meetup and then went back in as well. We got to have some fun with him, especially when some old lady came up smiling to put some trash in and play with the push can and then got scared when it started going after her.
And then it was going backstage through the gates and one of the workers back there thought it was a real can and tried to get it and it moved and even shocked him ;)

I work at a facility which handles thousands of guests daily. We used to have a problem with vandalism. What we found is that if it doesnt get cleaned up right away, more of it will surface, as the vandals see that they are making a lasting mark. The key to stoping vandalism is to clean it up right away. At my place of work, the second we spot damaged property, it becomes our number one priority to fix it. Most of the time it is repaired within an hour or two. From the vandals point of view, its very discouraging to them. Since we have started to be so vigilent about this, vandalism has droped to only about a quater of what it was.

hopefully this will stay untouched for all to enjoy now... ;)

I am surprised that what little vandalism that happens in the park ever takes place at all. security is world class at dl.I have walked through metal detectors and been felt up by uniformed guards at six flags and other places. I know dl has security, but I have never noticed them. I have never seen uniformed security. I have seen someone get taken down by them. it was fast. they came in, took the guy into a building, and we didnt see them again. it was super fast and efficient.
