View Full Version : The Club 33 Experience

We all know that it's the one club that you have to give an arm and leg to join(well not really) but there have been few occasions where we ordinary people have seen a glance or have actually gone into Club 33. So this is pretty simple, if you have any idea of what you saw then here's the place to speak about 33.
I myself actually got in, but only in the lobby part so I guess I can't really count that as going in, but man does it look luxurious. I especially liked the old elevator in the front. Anyone else ever been in 33, even for a second?

So, I was 16 and standing in line with my Aunt for the Blue Bayou (before it was reservation only). The line was taking forever and it was very hot and long. We were chatting with the Lady behind us, as people tend to do in slow moving lines.
Suddenly, This very nice looking couple, all dressed up, came walking down the street. He was in a suit, she was in a very expensive dress and real looking jewelery. They knocked on this non-discript door we were standing next to. The door opened and we caught a glimps of the AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL lobby.
I remember seeing a stair case and a gold framed mirror before the door shut again.
We looked at the Lady behind us. She looked at us and as one person we knocked on the door. Of course no on answered. We laughed about it all the way to Blue Bayou.:icon_lol:
I know now that it was Club 33, that was my introduction and the closest I will ever get.

I have never been there :icon_cry: but I was reading in my hometown paper about a couple who have a membership and go to DL all the time. I want them to adopt me so I can go to 33.

I have been inside once. It really is an experience. The lobby has an old desk at which the hostess greets you from, the wire elevator in the center and the staircase to the side. The elevator is about the size of a phone booth and mainly for novelty, most people use the stairs. Getting out on the top floor, behind you is the kitchen and private dining room, with Walt's trophy case, the animatronic bird, and hidden microphones in the chandeliers. Going down the hall, the men's and women's restrooms are to the left, both ornately decorated, with vintage toilets. Women get the "thrones" while men get basically an old fashioned toilet with the tank suspended high above the seat. Then you turn right and there's the bar, there's a harpsicord there that has been painted with landscapes, it's really beautiful. Also there are concept art for Pirates. The main dining area is kept dark, lit by candles. There's a marble mantlepiece directly in front, tables all around. And that's pretty much all the architecture.

Well when I was there on Friday December 2, I was riding POTC, and in the Facade building above the blue bayou restraunt that you can see from the ride, there is a door to the 2nd level of Club33. They had left the door open and you could see right in! I couldnt believe it! Then I did see quite a few people go in and out the door of the club while waiting at the blue bayou, very beautiful, and very red!
But I have some really exciting news! As some of you know, I am getting married in June, and we are honeymooning at the Disneyland Resort, as well as other theme parks. Well, a really good friend of mine has visited the club many times. His very good friend is a Chef for Club 33, and he is invited by him almost everytime he visits the park. Well, knowing that we are going there for our honeymoon, my dear friend is actually having the Chef invite us to the club for a meal! And I AM SOOO EXCITED! He is planning everything for us right now, and I can't wait until its all for sure! He said he is going to work so hard to arrange this, and the Chef who will be inviting us will be thrilled that we are there for our honeymoon, and he will make sure to show us around the club. This Club 33 is the only thing I cannot touch in that park right now, and I would like nothing more than to step through those doors. I really cannot wait for this, I have waited for so long for my chance! I am soo excited, and I hope everything is succesfull. But I actually had a question for those of you that have been there before. What do I expect? How much IS the food? Can you hang out in there for a while? Would you dress up? Is the cost of the food worth the experience?? To me, it all ready is and I could care less how much we end up spending in the Club, but I want to know how others feel about it. Anyways, any imput would be great!

I actually got to go eat at 33 last october. My SIL works with the brother of the guy who is the director of food for the resort. It was beautiful inside and we got to sit in Walts private dining room. But it was raining and the roof was leaking into buckets in the corner-LOL! our waiter Steve told us they would be closing it to remodel in a few months and they will probably be changing the uniforms. We had the lunch buffet and three kinds of pasta (had a fancy french name). We were a party of 7 and the final bill was $890.00 the most I have spent on a meal EVER! but SOOOOO worth it!

I am fortunatly able to get in about every 6 months or so, because one of our good friends is a dentist that has a membership to Club 33. So when I want I call him up and say, hey, can you call for Club 33 reservations for us? So I am extremely lucky! When I had been in for the first time i thought it was soooo cool. It is very pretty and the displays of food are awsome. And the girls bathroom's toliets are made to look like thrones. Ok, I actually didn't go in the girl's bathroom but that is what the friends I was with said (They took pics). But overall it is very classy. And yes, the food is expinceive, but you need to realize that it is probly about $60-$70 per person which includes your meal and a 1 day park hopper ticket (the ticket alone is about $75). So if you are NOT an annual passholder it is accually a very good value (where else can you get into both parks and and get a huge meal at Disneyland for about $60).

Thank you! I was acutally expecting to spend more than that! But I dont know how far it will go as in tickets, I know most of the time when a member invites a guest into the club, they get into the park for free. But with my honeymoon deal, I have pretty much already paid for my tickets. My AP is good until March, and I will be getting my 2006 pass in June on the last day of my honeymoon Disneyland. So I really dont mind the whole addmission thing, I am just focusing on getting into the club for the afternoon, and that is what he will be doing basically. Setting up a reservation for us, as his guest, to eat inside the club. I really cannot wait and I am soo excited! Please post more stories everyone! I love hearing them!

Well piratequeen21307 and I went just recently and I dared myself to ring the buzzer to 33. I finally did it and the lady there was looking at us like "What do you want?" I asked her about it, and she said you have to send a letter online or give it to guest relations. She also said there was a waiting list to join, it sounded like 40 some years, but I dont think so, piratequeen should know, she heard, and even so, the overall price tag was 20,000 dollars for 4 years!:icon_shoc So yeah, that was my que to just say ok thanks.

On my recent trip to the Happiest Place, I was just standing outfromt of the door taking a few picture, when a family rang the buzzer. I was so excited! The door was opened and iI snapped a few pictures and got my first look into Club 33. I was actually quite dissappointed this trip though, because I was going to be able to dine there that trip. But, the person who was giving us his tickets ended up not going. It really put my hopes down.:icon_evil

Wow, it's been a really long time since I last went to Club 33. My dad's company has membership, so we can go whenever we want. As a kid, we would make ONE special trip every year to Disneyland, which included lunch at Club 33. At the time, it was an all-you-can-eat buffet style lunch, but I heard that recently they discontinued that and you just order something off of the menu. I have SO many pictures of my family eating at Club 33. If I could find the pictures, I could line them up and you can see how I've grown through the years (because my mom always takes the pictures in the same place)!
But I actually had a question for those of you that have been there before. What do I expect? How much IS the food? Can you hang out in there for a while? Would you dress up? It's been a while, but I'll try to answer your questions! Well, as a lot of people have said, you ring the little buzzer to get in. The person at the door will ask for your name and when they're ready, you get to go in the elevator (at least I always did). One thing I remember very vividly is that whenever you leave your seat, someone will almost immediately run over and fix your napkin all nice when you return. The women's bathroom is extra swanky with the throne toilets and the thick napkins with the Club 33 logo to dry your hands with. There's also like a room before the bathroom where you can freshen up your makeup in front of the vanity.
I remember the cost of the food was a little more than the price of admission. I believe our family spent about $150 (for 3 people). But, please understand that this was back in the 1990's.
I don't see any problem with hanging out for a while after you're through eating. Sometimes we would sit, looking out the window at the people below in New Orleans Square. I needed time to rest my stomach before going on rides again, since I would eat a lot to get my money's worth!
I never really dressed fancy when I went there, though we probably should have. Since it's a very classy restaurant, formal attire is highly suggested. Unless you want to stick out like a sore thumb like we did!
I definitely feel that the cost is worth the experience! Just being able to say that you've eaten at Club 33 is worth the money! But really, the food there is superb! I loved all of their seafood, the desserts and the Mickey Temple! As a souvenir, you could take one of the bathroom napkins, since it has the Club 33 logo on it! :icon_lol:

The more I study disneyland, I more I become obsessed with club 33. I have tried so hard to get in, just for a glance, never any luck. I would do almost anything for a tour, do those who get in truly appreciate it? I will try again March 28th, doubt I'll get my tour, but who knows "dreams really can come true".

And yet - correct me if I'm wrong - Walt never set foot in the place when it was in operation. He died while POTC was in development. I don't think Club 33, the Blue Bayou, and the POTC building had opened yet. I know he planned to use animatronics in the Club, with microphones over the tables. I believe he contributed to the decor. I know that his apartment was left unfinished (as an apartment, that is) and was eventually turned into the Disney Gallery. I just don't know if he ever ate there.

Well, as I mentioned before, I used to go to Club 33 every time we went to Disneyland (but back then, I only went once or twice a year). I suppose since I was younger, I didn't fully appreciate all that is in Club 33. I did feel REALLY special though when people would watch us walk through the door! I also really loved the elevator; my family ALWAYS used it to get to the dining area (but they made us walk down the stairs when we left...I kind of think it should be the opposite because after we eat, our bellies are too full to walk around). I also really enjoyed going out on the balcony and waving at the people down below. The CMs at Club 33 are THE BEST! They were all so extremely nice to me!
I haven't been there since...2004, I think? After I got my annual pass, I haven't really gone. Also, since I've last been there, they stopped doing the buffet for lunch (which we really loved). I'd like to go back again (and maybe snap some pictures), but as many people are finding out, I don't really eat that much... :P

Walt Disney acutally designed Club 33 to entertain his most prestigous guests, and it was to be a place where the famous could go and not be bothered. There is actually a special train car hooked to one of the DLRR trains called the Lilly Belle, to transport guests from Main St to NOS without being bothered. I am pretty sure Walt Disney has been in there before, but that part I am not to sure of. Walt's apartment is on Main St above the firestation. I think he was going to make an apartment for walt's brother where the Disney Gallery is now located. The kitchen to Club 33 lays right behind the Gallery, and it streches all across the facade building there. There are birds sitting up on the chandelliers, which are rumored to have microphones inside their beaks, to pick up all the conversations! About Walt Disney ever being inside there, I am pretty sure he did, but I am not positive.

"I just don't know if he ever ate there."
Nope the concept was a larger apartment for him to stay there but it never happened for him. What is today the Disney Gallery is what was to be the apartment area.
"but I am just chomping at the bit to go there."
So am I, but I did get to travel once (recently) on the Lillie Belle so there is some consolence. I would put myself on the waiting list but I only want to go there once and for $7000 I am not sure if it is worth it to spend that much for one visit. Till then I am just going to hope for a contact to get me in one day.

I have been a few times, and I have to say the first time I went was the best (of course!!) It also happened to be for dinner, and it was very nice. Great service, awesome food, just an amazing experience alltogether. The dinner was order off the menu, and the service was definitely up there with the best I have ever seen.
The other times I have been have been at lunch. Lunch is definitely not as "formal." I hate to even say it, because I don't want to sound ungrateful, but the lunch service has been just OK. My most recent trip was actually quite bad service / food wise. We had a larger group, and our server just wasn't very good (by ANY standards, and I guess I hold them to even higher "Disney" standards.) They didn't do the napkin refolding, we waited 5 - 10 minutes for a drink or water refill, etc (without any apology.) Another time, I was told I could only have 2 drinks with lunch. I have no idea where that came from, as the rest of my table was able to drink more (and I am talking over a few hours...not a lush at all!)
Lunch started with a buffet of appetizers (salads, cold shrimp, etc.) and then we got to order off a limited menu (we had a group of about 20?) Nothing impressive on the menu (basically a pasta, red meat, chicken or fish). Then dessert was off a buffet display as well.

Interesting thread here. From my understanding, Club 33 is an exclusive club that almost all Disneyland fans know about, located in New Orleans Square in Disneyland park.
My friend somehow got connections to Club 33 (She's been to every single Disney park in the world) and brought a napkin back! And I touched it! ...Beautiful paper napkin not unlike the napkins that you can find all over Disneyland.
I don't understand all the hype about Club 33, but I would love to check it out someday, anyway!

I agree. I ate dinner there about three weeks ago, and I have to say, I was disappointed not only in the quality of the food, but the service as well. If you want the best of food and service, eat at the Vineyard Room in DCA!!!! It's the best food and service around and you don't have to have a membership to dine there!

Club 33 is an exclusive private dining room inside Disneyland, above New Orleans Square. Its entry door, marked 33, is right next to the entry for Blue Bayou restaurant. In fact, the balcony overlooking the Blue Bayou patio is part of Club 33, and the Disney Gallery backs up to another part of the Club.
There is a many-year-long waiting list, and annual dues are over $5000 (I don't recall the current figure, could be $7000). It is the only place in which alcohol is served in Disneyland, and epitomizes the Disney guest experience by personalizing little gifts for your group (I think they still do this: little pads of paper or matchbooks?)

I've heard a lot of the same stories about how the excitement from Club 33 is just the fact that you're inside of the club. My friend told me that the food isn't all that great, but the place is very nice.
Whatever, I don't really care! I get to go in September and I'm super excited! :D
I will say this for Club 33. The mere fact that you can see Walt Disney's personal touches in the decor is wonderful. If were just a regular restaurant I don't think I'd go back, but the atmosphere is truly great. And the feeling of being "exclusive" as you look down upon all the people who cannot get in, well there's something to be said for that too. I was just really disapointed more so in the service than the food.

I don't think I can afford Club 33 then.
Is that why it's so popular and it appears on lots of peoples avatar cos it serves ALCOHOL?

No, more likely because of the exclusivity. The sense of belonging to a secret club most park guests don't know about, whose membership is reserved for an elite few.

I think a big part of the mystique is that Club 33 was intended as a private club for Walt Disney himself, and for his private guests. Originally it wasn't meant to be an attraction, just a special place for Disney family and friends. So by visiting it, we are getting to see one of Walt's personal places in the park.

You are exactly right, Adrianne! I have never been there before, but I told my parents about it years ago, and we have always wanted to. I wish I could get my mother in there for our last-minute trip this weekend - I think she'd pee her pants! ;)

When I was there three weeks ago I didn't see the Christmas ornament, but I saw hats and shirts and special Mickey ears with the 33 on them. I wish they had had the ornament, I collect christmas ornaments that mark special trips or events in my life.

Yeah, unlike my sister, I have no care if I go up there or not. 3 of my friends went for christmas time last year, it was very beautiful they told me and they had waiters and waitresses at your every need, but my friend told me that if you enjoy a simple burger from jack in the box or carls, Club 33 wont be your thing to dine. Well, I hope someday my sisters dream comes true, she wants to go and dine there at least once, and of course, I dont have a care for it... if I had an invite or a chance to go... I would take it just to see inside lol.

club 33 is so amazing. i got to go last february. (its all about who you know, i guess) Its so full of amazing things and props from movies. even the bathroom is awesome. All over the walls, they have beautiful original concept drawings for a lot of the rides. there's also the phone booth from "the happiest millionare" and the victorian table from "mary poppins" (which i actually got down on my knees and hugged-my friend said it was very embarassing) One of the best things is the cabinet of exclusive merchandise. (spent even more shopping up there than i did on the food) I might be going again before the end of this year, and if i do, i'll probably spend all my souvenier money in the club! :) oh, and there's the most gorgeous harpsicord...when paul mcartney visited the club he sat down and started to play it! i would have fainted if i was there! club 33 and Paul mcartney all in one? you cant get much better than that!
...and i think id need to buy a few more club 33 mickey ears. cause if someone even BREATHES wrong near the pair i have now, it freaks me out. I need one pair to wear and one to put in a glass case so no one can touch it!

I had the pleasure of a co-worker arranging dinner reservations for me and my daughter through his brothers' work on a Sunday evening in October of 2002. The meal was great and I didn't mind the prices as I was expecting them to be high. As we left club 33 returning to the outside, I could hear fireworks going off in the distance, I knew it was too early for the Disneyland fireworks, then I realized what it was.. the California Angels had just won game 7 of the world series. Wow, dinner at club 33 and the Angels finally winning a world series. What a magical day that was.

Wow, that Mickey truffle is SO adorable! I've never been to Club 33 on my birthday before. I'll have to do it this year!
And to Nurse Chapel - the prices are about equivalent to the price of admission to Disneyland. I think they said they required a minimum $59 purchase? So, you can either say you got free admission to the park or a free dinner.
Also, to anyone who is interested, I've got pics of Matt & I at Club 33. Just check my User page to get a link directly to my trip report and photos.

The reason I ask is, I was at the Sands in Las Vegas and accidetally walked into the Ladies room by mistake, and that place was a palace with floral wallpaper and gilt edged mirrors and candelabra sconces and davenport sofas and whatnot. The Men's room was regular tile.

How funny that you mention this. What I do for a iving is design the very restrooms of which you speak. And yea, here in vegas the restrooms are specifically designed to keep the ladies nice and comfortabe no matter what part of the casino they are in. For the guys.......get'm in and get'm back out on the floor......spending MONEY. However, this does NOT apply to the high roller areas, that's an entirely different level of accomodation that most people will never experience.

Club 33 is in the Pirates building.
Club 33 can be seen from the ride: Blue Bayou is essentially a patio overlooking the Pirates swamp. Above that patio is a second story and balcony. That second story is where Club 33 is located.
Club 33 connects to the Disney Gallery. The Gallery was originally going to be a Disney family apartment and connected to the Club 33 kitchen.
Club 33 is a full service restaurant, the only place in Disneyland that serves liquor, or supplies two-ply toilet paper. There are two dining areas, to my knowledge.

In June of 2005, I arranged a visit to Club 33 through my employment at Coca Cola. Coke doesn't normally give their employees access to their membership at Club 33, but in this case, my sister's 50th birthday coincided with that of Disneyland, and so they were generous enough to make an exception. We had lunch there, which was a buffet of the salads, shrimp, etc....then we ordered from the menu for the main course. After the meal, the manager was gracious enough to give us the tour of the place, and I must say that it was one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had. I suppose that I will not have the opportunity to go there again, but it was a wonderful occasion, and we were so happy to have done that for my sister. The trophy room, the dining room.....even the bathrooms were luxurious. We were also able to purchase merchandise there, including beverage containers, shirts, jackets, etc. A truly magical Disneyland experience if you can somehow get access to it, I'd highly recommend it, although the lunch isn't cheap. It was cleanly over $200 for 4 of us. And that was LUNCH. Dinner's even more! We consider it worth it, however.

Yes, I've eaten there and didn't have membership. It's AWESOME!!!!! The service is 5 star. They will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING for you there. I especially liked the chandelliers with the microphones haning in the center of them, and the reason for those. According to the story, microphones were placed in the chandelliers so that VIP's could be recorded during the dinners hosted by Walt Disney to see if they had any suggestions on areas of improvement or changes that should be made towards the park. Then they would be reviewed at a later time.

That's not a story I've ever heard before. The official story I'm aware of is that the microphones were intended to allow backstage puppeteers to join in on conversations using animated animal heads on the walls. I've never heard that conversations were intended to be recorded. Ever. In fact, since the animal head puppetry was never implemented, the microphones have never been used.

I have been inside once. It really is an experience. The lobby has an old desk at which the hostess greets you from, the wire elevator in the center and the staircase to the side. The elevator is about the size of a phone booth and mainly for novelty, most people use the stairs. .
Actually, we took the elevator. It was in the movie, "The Happiest Millionaire" with Fred MacMurray. People do take the stairs as well, but, we took the elevator!
I have many photos from our trip to Club 33, and will link them up here soon!

WOW, my first time in 33, well actually I've been there several times. A close friend of the family used to be the personal assistant for the prez of Hunt's Foods. basically, you get into the park for free, however your lunch costs as much as the price of admission into the park. Well worth the experience. Plus it's the only place in the entire park where you can sit back, relax and drink a ice cold Heiniken.
