Only hotel guests can ride the monorail when it reopens again. It sucks that guests will not be allowed to ride it again.

In other news from the article...

Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through ? indefinite. (The Disneyland.com Web site shows this reopening on September 27)

Jiggawhat???

So how are there 3 monorail running now or just 2?

I hope that they get these monrail up and running soon but I think with the Submarine getting done they like to kept that ride quiet until it opens in 2007.
If anyone know more let us know thanks.

Hasn't the monorail been like that at some point before? I seem to vaguely recall a rule like that, but I'm not 100% sure.

As for the Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough.. well, no matter what disneyland.com says, I'll believe it when I see it.

first off this article is quite old "August 18 ? 24, 2003"

second is the figures just don't add up.
how can 1 monorail train have 6000 riders, and 3 have 20000
(18000 is what I would calculate!)

I have only seen 2 trains running at any given time over the last 13 months
currently red and purple are the ones running. and from what I have heard
blue (which I have not see running since last winter)
is being torn down (reverse engineering) to model a new fleet!

I also have seen the trains running every 5 minutes.
so how could a full loop be 20-25 minutes.
I have never seen the loop take more than 10-12 minutes, and I ride the monorail in and out on most of my visits.

as for break downs, yes I have seen both trains stuck and ouut of commision.
and as for the hotel guest only...well this is the first I have heard of this, and being such an old article I would assume that somebody at DL wised up and threw out that stupid idea...

ANY CM's out there want to confirm this????

Umm...This looks like an old update... The top of the article says: Disneyland Resort Update for August 18 ? 24, 2003.

The monorail has just been that way for a long while is all ;)

I was there one day when it really really reaaaally burned out and the CMs at the station were talking about liability based on what warning lights had gone off and trying to recreate exactly what happened and how the control board looked at the time and other sorts of things to prove it wasn't Disney's fault heh.

***OLD RUMOR THAT WAS PROVEN TO BE FALSE LONG, LONG AGO***

Folks, this is drummed up from August of 2003. Don't read one more word past that. It didn't happen then, it's not happening now. The monorail was saved from this fate, but will eventually be taken totally out of service & the trains will be completely re-done. We do know Monorail Orange is being reverse-engineered as part of the process for designing the new Disneyland Monorail System trains. When will that happen? Who knows. What we do know is that the monorail is up & running for everyone & has been for quite some time.

This thread probably should be closed now.

And for the record, purple went first, then red, then purple again, as the people eating breakfast for the merchandise were shuttled over from the hotel into Disneyland. ;)

We got to watch it scuttle on by us over by the Hollywood & Dine and take guesses why it was running early.

Both trains were down last night (Monday) :icon_cry:

I hate walking thru DTD to the main gate after seeing the Monorail station closed, It seems so far
(yeah I know its not, but it seens farther when dissapointed)

But I did see purple running after the fireworks!

anybody heard anything about when this new fleet
(that is so despritely needed) will arrive? :icon_ques

Over at MiceAge, Lutz has given us news that the current fleet will be shut down this winter & the new fleet will debut shortly after the Subs. So that means for all of 2006 & half of '07, we'll be w/o the Monorail.

Maybe...I dare them to put Dick Dale's music in the new monorail though ;)

I just don't want the WDW monorail interior :( I don't want it to feel like a subway train I want it to be the monorail!

I will miss the sound of the horn. When they close it, that means we will have to take pics from Innoventions' 2nd level or Autopia in the line on it's 2nd level for our Sub Lagoon shots. Better get a telephoto lens everybody.

i always wondered how they got the monorails off the track is there a special track for it to go through?

just curious

Stephen

The monorails take a switch track and go behind "it's a small world" and go into a roundhouse where maintenece is done.

The trains are built right on the track.

So are the Submarines.

They use to have a section over by the TL that they could switch the trains at. I though that was the place they fixed them at cause they could hold 2 trains there. Just like on a roller coaster, the track had a section that the train would sit on and then move over and then go into the station for repairs. I used to look at it all the time as a kid in the 80's.

What was the mark number back then?

PeoplemoverMatt

The Alweg monorails were taken offline & replaced in 1987 with the Mark V's that we currently see today. Mark III Alweg's ran from 1969-1987.

Considering Las Vegas has I believe Mark VIII's, my guess is Disneyland's new ones would be considered Mark IX's.

You go by to fast to really get a good look. And to get a picture? Forget it.

The Monorail is still allowing Day Guests to ride. Hotel Guests get priority by getting their own entrance, but you have to show your hotel card-key. It's easy to cheat the system because if you saved a recent cardkey from about a month ago, you can go back and use the priority line.

^ Yes, but then you get to live with yourself knowing you've cheated the system. If that doesn't mean something to you, I feel sorry for you.

It would not matter for me since I only take the monorail when I stay the night, when there for the day I go thru the nomal way,but if they did do this it would be unfair.

The line for the monorail is really long since a lot of DL's guests are day guests. If you save the cardkey, you can bypass the people in the general line. It's like a Fastpass you can re-use!:p I don't really care if you cheat the line, they'll never know!

...I don't really care if you cheat the line, they'll never know!

Disney karma will catch up to you.......

maybe next time you wait an hour for your favorite ride...it will break down as your loading.

be wary of the bad disney karma you are creating for yourself, use that old cardkey at your own risk. (I would never do that...I wait for the monorail like everybody else...even if the line is long. and I use the MR on most visits!)
