O.k....so my girlfriend of 3 years and i are going to DL in january of '06 and she has never been. I'm so excited that she gets to go with me for her first trip. EEEeee!! Since there is no other place in the whole world that I would take her to do this I really want to get down on my knee and beg for her hand at Disneyland. But I haven't thought of the very best place to do it.
So I leave it to you ImaginEars, please help me find the perfect spot to pop the Question.
Thanks

Now THAT is cool =) I'd do it right in front of the castle, BEFORE you cross through it! And tell a Disney photographer to capture the moment for you! Do it early though before it gets crowded with tons of people! Good luck!

oh, how exciting!! It probably all depends on if you don't mind a whloe bunch of people standing around you and looking (only because that is so cool and exciting) Do it in front of the castle, right as you are about to go through!! Anywhere awesome really:) congrats!

That is funny that we thought the same thing at the same time, and posted it in the same minute!
You should do it on the Haunted Mansion as you pass by the ghost bride. Even if she says "no", you have the haunted spirits saying "I do".

If you want a quiet place, try the Blue Bayou or (dishing out the real money) Napa Rose. The castle is a lot of fun, but yes, very crowded. Be sure to talk to guest relations, they're always happy to help out. I've seen times when they bring out the girlfriend's favorite character with a ring, all sorts of things like that. Good luck to you!

Either in front of the castle or by snow white's grotto to side of the castle. That's a romantic little spot and usually it's not very crowded. Congrats! That's sooo romantic.

I've seen CM's close off the side paths, like Snow Whites Grotto, so that someone could pop the question with out being stamped by guests. If you can't get there early enough to kneel beneath the portcullis you might consider the grotto. "I'm Wishing" is not a bad sound track to start a new life too.
Congradulations and I hope she says yes!

I was going to do this with my wife, but I was so eager to pop the question I proposed to her the weekend before we went to Disneyland. Anyway....
My plan was to take her to the main Esplanade, have her stand in the middle of the compass, yes in full view of everyone, and drop to one knee, for a couple reasons:
-It's symbolic in that each direction I want to go, she will always be with me and she is the reason why my life has direction now (or, moreso than before I married her);
-Just like how you pass through the gates of Disneyland or DCA, the esplanade is usually the starting point for the journey into one of the two theme parks...and for me, it would also mark the start of a new journey with my wife;
-It'd be in full view of a lot of people, so everyone could start cheering when she said yes (I did know she was going to say yes because she had been hinting at getting married for the past month we were dating!);
So, that's what I was going to do, but I jumped the gun. Hopefully, whatever you decide to do will turn out great, and good luck to you...if she says yes, good luck to you both!

You can also pop the question in Pirates of the Caribbean during the 'Bride Auction' scene.
But.. uh.. she may take it wrong if she doesn't have the sense of humor.

this is what i would think is a great proposal and if some one said this befor sorry!: go on the storybook land canal boats at night and somehow secretly tell the CM that is giving your boat the tour that you plan to propose under the Alladin arches(those are the ones that are covered with vines and have the blinking chistmas lights). ask if he/she can stop under them and let you do it. also if i remember right the CM giving the tour says that alladin and jasmine had there first kiss under those arches right before u go under them. its great because theres not alot of people(only about 10)on the boat and its about half way through ride which means that u can go thruogh the rest of the ride as a happy couple. hope it goes great and that you guys live happily ever after. :p
some one on mouse planet (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=45422&page=1&pp=25) is asking a similar ? it my help.

awww! that's soo sweet! i definatly like disneylandkid's idea. or infront of the castle. you could always head over to City Hall (while she is buying a locker???) and maybe have your question somehow incorporated into the parade? like at one of the showstop places they could anounce that (insert your name here) has a very special question to ask (insert her name here) and maybe have one of the charactors that talk come over with a mike and have it anounced to everyone watching the parade that you want to spend the rest of your life with your special girl! that would be soo sweet. omg, i would love that myself!

On April 28, 1998 I guided my bride to be through Snow Whites Grotto, on our way to fantasy land, I stopped her at the wishing well, pointing out the cut marble characters of Snow White, While she looked I kneeled down and when she turned around I proposed. I can't think of a more magical moment, especially when she said yes. It was an intimate enough space that I didn't feel like too many people were around and yet romantic enough to set the right mood for the occassion. Oh yes I would recomend Snow Whites Grotto, right after opening when the traffic through there is light.
OK, here is another idea....
You get a bunch of us crazies involved.
daddyb's job is to sneakily follow and take pictures.
The rest of us have 'Beauty' lighted roses or somthing of that nature. You pick a spot like Snow White's Grotto (if you want it more private) or even in front of the Castle (if you want a big crowd). New Orleans is very nice too. If you guys are outdoorsy you have the Fantasmic stage on Tom Sawyer's Island. There is the Fatasia Garden area outside the Matterhorn entrance (where motor boats used to be.)
You 2 stand there and one person walks up with a rose.
"You look like a cute couple, here, this rose is for you." They hand her the rose and then walks away.
30 seconds later another person comes up and does the same thing. This gets repeated several times. She will know something is up after the second rose but she wont care.
After 6 or so people give her flowers then you get down to business. Maybe as the 6th one gives her a flower the other 5 come back and make a circle around you. They can help quiet the crowd and then back away. You get down on your knee and propose.
There are other elements you could bring into this like characters etc. Someone could be off to the side with the Mickey/Minnie Groom/Bride ears that you wear afterwards. If you are staying in a hotel arrange for roses to be delivered to the room.
Oh, here is something I just thougth about. Go watch Snow White musical. It is well done and they live happily ever after. After watching the show make you way down to Snow White's Grotto (keep talking about the play; what she liked, etc.) - thus you have a perfect lead into the proposal. If you are creative you proposal speech could mimic the Snow White theme (true loves kiss, happily ever after, etc.) Another thing you can have at the hotel or when you get home is the movie Snow White.
Anyway, sorry for being long winded, I hope these thoughts helps you to think of something creative.

My friend proposed to his now wife on Pirates, but as they went by the scene with all the jewels, he pulled out a ring. I don't remember what
is dialogue was though..something about the jewels, etc.

I really like RU42s idea. You could get the Snow White DVD for home and the bride and groom mouse ears are great. If you ask at guest relations maybe you could get Snow White and her Dwarves in on it. If you time it right the well will be singing ( I think it's every 15 minutes).
Of course, it depends on what character she likes best. If she has a favortie movie or character that could be the one you ask to help out.

I'm so thankful to all you for your ideas! But Ru42, you really blew my mind with such an elabarate plan. No way would I have come up with something like that!
I had a couple of other ideas. I really like the walkway from fantasyland and frontierland that goes by the old natures wonderland cart. I think that would be a beautiful spot. I was also thinking of somewhere a little away from the park. Though it is away from Disneyland I saw a picture of the waterfalls at DL Hotel. The ones you could walk under. I've never been there but it looks beautiful too.
Thank you all again and keep them coming!

You know, if you do the waterfall you can still use RU42s plan. You can still get characters at the hotel I think due to the character breakfasts. So, if you talk to guest relations and make sure it's cool with them; take her to dinner (Maybe Stromboli's if it's still there, I loved that place) The flowers could come either at dinner or while you two are walking to the waterfall. Like VF members could be along the walk from the resteraunt to the falls.
If you really want to go all out you could get someone to play music near the waterfall. Then when she is really wondering what's up because of the music and flowers and nice dinner then you could get down on one knee near or even behind the falls and ask.
If Daddyb would be willing to take pictures just think of how beautiful that would be.

The close the waterfalls in the evening, kind of early from what i remember, so I'd check with guest relations to find out times, then arrange it around there.

My best ideas would be to get Disneyland's help in securing a part of the castle, as that is the most iconic part of the park. But without Disneyland's help, that area will be mighty crowded. Without the CMs help, I would suggest Ariel's Grotto at night, it lights up very well, and usually no one's around.
Should by some chance you find yourself in DCA... near the enterance to Paraide Pier, over the bridge, where you can see the whole section makes for the most romantic spot there.

just remember- under the falls is VERY VERY loud. so you might have to yell at her. it was soo loud under the falls that i had a headache after. i think Ru42's idea can be adapted into anything really. that was soo sweet! if you decide to use Ru42's idea, some of use here on VF could help out some! all ya have to do is ask! or you could have CM's do that. that would be sweet. get guest relations to get like 7 or so CM's and have them do that. then, they can hang around and make sure you guys have your privacy (if you want privacy, you might want the whole world to watch!)

I took my boyfriend to Disneyland for the first time last month and he popped the question while we were there. He took me over to Snow White's wishing well, not knowing what it was until I told him, and gave me a quarter to make a wish. I have decided quarters are very lucky. Anyway, I made my wish which of course was for him to propose when we were down there, he then made his. After he threw his quarter in he kept asking me what I had wished for, of course I would not tell him because then it wouldn't come true. He started telling me what he wished for and before I could tell him to stop, I realized what he was doing. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was perfect!!!!

I am glad you liked it. And as someone pointed out, you can always manipulate it to fit your tastes and likes. I am sure many of us in here would be happy to help. Disney and romance - I love it.
Disney brings out the romantic in me. For my 10th anniversary; at Christmas I got my wife a wicker basket. In it was some Mexican cheese, Norweigen kippers, Chinese noodles, German beer, Italian sausage, etc. It took her about 3 items to see that all the items were coming from the cpuntries at World Showcase at Epcot. On the bottom of the basket was plane tickets, hotel reservations, etc. It was quite spectacular.
If you need any other ideas just let me know.

I always dreamed that I'd be proposed to in Disneyland. The most creative one I came up with is having my boyfriend somehow getting a character (i.e.- Mickey, or my favorite character, Peter Pan) involved. You have to make sure its one of her favorite MALE characters, and its one that actually walks around in Disneyland. If it would work out, talk to one of the character assisstants (the guys that accompany the characters) and tell him the plan, and he would tell the character during their break. Find out when and where the character will be out next and have them help you out. I guess the next step is yours- how you want to go about it. In my fantasy, he'd take me up to get a picture with the character (who, remember, is in on it) and the character plays along taking pictures and whatnot until he gets down on one knee, like he is proposing. If you really want to get in on it, have the character hold onto the EMPTY ring box, and propose with that. When she discovers there's no ring in the box, the character can turn her attention around to you to find you on your knee with the actual ring. Then, its up to you!

No, no wait, I got it! Become a castmember and she won't know, then get on the announcement speaker when she's walking around the park or somthing and ask then...
or become a castmember and stop the ride when she's on it, and come around to get everyone and you just ask her when she's still in the cart....
random ideas, that probly wouldn't work out.
lablkilz699
08-01-2005, 05:19 AM
go sometime during the summer or something, or when its still warm out...make sure the park is open until midnight...treat her like a queen that day, make her so happy all day (even if it empties your wallet, its disneyland, it dosent matter!) and try to be one of the last ones leaving the park and heading back to main street....
make pirates, or splash or something your last ride, and walk out from adventureland...guider her over to the partners statue... and sort of in between that and the castle....
note how magnificant the castle is and how great the day has been....
say you wish every day could be like that day....and you wish that she could be with you everyday...then as you are both standing in front of the castle, after a full day of disney fun....pause....admire the castle....and hold her close....then say...you know what else i wish? (gets down on one knee, busts out the rock) "I wish you would marry me...?"
Personally, i dont see how she could just melt right there!
Good luck!!! This will make Disneyland even more magical than it has ever been for either of you....trust me.....Disneyland will be like a sacred place for the rest of your lives....how exciting that would be to go back when your old and still have the same exciting feelings of happiness and joy you felt the night you got engaged?
lablkilz699
08-01-2005, 05:27 AM
ohhh yeah, make this the last night of the end of your trip there also, make sure its the last thing she remembers of disneyland. Especially disneyland at night....theres something just a tad more magical going on there at night time....i cant put my finger on it....but its there....
ahh i love disneyland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
and hey, my idea isnt just some random brainstorming, its one of the few plans ive been devising for years to hopefully use some day....
Anyways....goood luck, not like you will need it because im positive she will say yes. Who can NOT live happily ever after in disneyland!?!? NO ONE! Especially when your getting asked at the stroke of midnight, in the most magical place on the face of the earth...with the one person you love....with the most iconic fairy tale castle the world has ever known as your backdrop?
What a fairy tale it will be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

somehow setting up "when you wish upon a star" as background music would be excellent...although probably very difficult to do?? diont know how you would pull that off but yeah....its an idea.
tons of roses on the bed back at the hotel room when you get back that last magical night of being in the magic kingdom would be a nice touch also...

I'm getting closer and closer to crunch time and I'm getting more and more nervous!
The court of angels.............................WHAT A GREAT IDEA! Holy heck, I would have never thought of that!
I just hope the first day we're there I can scope out the park one more time and put all the pieces together. The more I think about it fireworks are a big part of it. Still that's not much of a surprise and I think she's expecting that.
I do wish the HM would be open of our trip, but theres Mike and Sully to make up for that closure.
Any more ideas are more than welcome!
Thanks Again,
Dreamer

If you are looking for a more private setting, I think a neat idea would be to take her to the caves on Tom Sawyer Island. Maybe you could run a head of her and hide, then when she comes around the corner, you could just stick your hand out with the ring. That would stop her right in her tracks! Then you could get down on one knee. I just thought of that idea. Trying to think of some different locations for ya. Good Luck!:p

If you plan to propose during the fireworks, try to do it when the winds aren't high so they won't be cancelled.
When I was there the 19th, someone proposed to his lover in front of us a half hour before show time. I whispered to my friend, "Gee, you'd think he'd do that during Remember."
And it turns out they had to cancel RDCT that evening. "Good thing he proposed to her before then or she would've been complaining with disappointment," my colleague joked as we pushed through the crowd.
Seriously, that would've sucked.

What I think would be cool, is if you drop hints all day, and then surprise her by doing nothing while you walk out, but then stop infront of the Castle as you are leaving (when it's less crowded, of course) and propose.
Like this:
Morning: Go on HM and say "Oh a bride! Too bad she has no groom to spend her afterlife with..."
Afternoon: If you see a couple with those bride & groom mickey mouse ears, go "Well look! Isn't that snazzy?! Let's get some!"
Evening: Take her to a nice dinner, like at the Blue Bayou and keep hinting. Like, take out a small ring box and inside, put earrings in it or something and say 'I got these for my mom, think she'll like them?' Lol
Then when you're leaving, make it around midnight, because that's when the park is closed and no one can go to any lands. Take her to the castle, and kneel and take out another ring box and propose.

If you want someplace nice, private and TOTALLY romantic, I would say to get a table by the water at the Blue Bayou (pirates of the c. ride restaurant.) It's dark, the scenery and AMAZING, nice soft music and you even have those awesome fireflies in the background.
GOOD LUCK!!!
-Rick
PS: If you plan to do this, DEFINITELY make a reservation.

I agree with some of the other people! Snow ****e's Grotto is probably the most romantic spot! But I would wait until the Fireworks display at the closing of the park! That way you have a very Disney/Romantic Atmosphere to pop the question! Another awesome place would be the Blue Bayou! That has definite Romantic possibilities! Well, good luck and have fun!

Oh man I am crying reading all of these. I definitely think you should ask for cm help to get the crowds attention and so you can do it with people not running over you and then have minnie and mickey come out. and then get down and say your thing. Ask daddyb to take pics. THEN POST THEM> I want to see how this turns out. Good luck man. She is one lucky girl.

I'm sorry i haven't gotten back sooner but we just got back from the parks and we are engaged!
It's a wonderful and romantic tale that I will share with you now.
We arived by car at the Carrosel Inn at around 1 pm on thurs the 26 checked in and headed strait for the big D. Now Tiara had never been and I was all afluter to introduce her to everything.
We started slow in Fantasyland then we started to move up. Pirates, Indy, Splash, Big Thunder, and Space.
But I'm getting ahead of myself after Pirates I slipped off to the Blue Bayou and made resavations for the next night at 8pm. We enjoyed our first night very much and at 8 the park closed and we turned in for the night.
The next morning, Jan 27, we woke up and got in at opening and woke up with a little space mountain. This turned out to be our favorite ride. The new effects we GREAT!!!
Brought her over to DCA and she really like all that it had to offer. I'm not a huge fan but the new Mike and Sully was alright.
Soon night fell and our resavation was quickly aproaching so I rushed her over to Disneyland and we walked right onto the Parade of Dreames. Not exactly the best place to be when your dinner res. is in 20 minutes. We rushed around the Matterhorn as to cut off the parade but that was a bad idea. So we run back around the Matterhorn again and finally make it to the Bayuo on time.
We.....had.....the......best....dinner.. ....EVER!! I cannot sing the praises of the Blue Bayou enough! Our mint julpes were never empty and the food was fantastic!!! We liked it so much that we went to city hall afterwards to leave a complement for our server.
After the greatest dinner ever I ushered her into the court of angels and infront of the stair case droped to my knees and asked for her hand.
I think you know the rest
Congrats and thanks for sharing.

How romantic! I would have done it either on Tom Saywer Island or in front of Skeeping Beauty Castle right after Remember...Dreams Come True, right on that bottom walk where people usually sit for Fantasmic!, or Snow White's Grotto; all of these done at night of course! Gongradulations on the engagement, and I am so very happy you chose Disneyland to be the spot for the event. "Remember...Dreams Come True", as Julie Andrews would say.

I like the Snow White's grotto on the right side of the castle! It is usually quiet unless Snow White or another character is there. Congrats. That is an awesome idea. Whenever somebody wants to get engaged to me, I would love for it to happen at Disneyland.

Now THAT is cool =) I'd do it right in front of the castle, BEFORE you cross through it! And tell a Disney photographer to capture the moment for you! Do it early though before it gets crowded with tons of people! Good luck!
awesome idea with the photographer!

the best place to do it is in front of castle first thing in the morning. i seen a few weddings take place by the castle. mickey n minnie come out dressed as a bride n groom. of course i never had a camera ready. once they printed how much it cost to get married at disneyland. it costs 2000 dollars up front. then it cost bout 300 to 500 per character.

That sounds like it worked out really great. This was a great thread for me to read also, because chances are high that I will be proposing at the happiest place on earth as well. I can't think of a better place for it, and I can't wait. Congratulations to you both!
