Are the video's distributed on the site in their original resolution, or were they scaled down for bandwith? If so, could you put some of the videos up with large resolution for a limited time run, so we could download 'em?

The videos have not been altered since they were moved from VF to the Gallery.

EDIT: I misunderstood the question. The videos were, of course shot and edited in a higher resolution and then brought down to a level appropriate for hosting on a website.

Hosting high quality (full frame, high res, etc) is nearly impossible on a website with the amount of traffic VF gets.

My videos in their original resolution are extremely high - measured in the gigs not megs. So yes, to be hosted on the web they are reduced in resolution.

I am truely greatfull for what you have accomplished with your movies! low resolution or high, it doesn't matter. I am happy that I can watch the Disneyland videos while I am at home. it is just like being on vacation at home! not just that but you put quite a bit of time into every movie! you have the editing down to a Tee! I applaud you for giving people that bit of magical happiness that you expierience only in disneyland, but at the comfort of home. even if you are 900 miles away from Disneyland!
Keep it up!! GREAT JOB! and Thank you tremendously!!!

^^I see... is there a way to make the videos smaller, but still have a higher resolution? They're pretty blurry as it is.

True, the videos are a bit blurry, even when it is on higher resolution.

What you're describing are "artifacts" in the image, not blur. This is from the compression used in making the videos an acceptable size for the web. A faster computer will render the image a bit better, and the newer versions of WMP will play these much better, also. However, because nearly all of VF's video materials show the attraction in it's entirety, and we currently have over 80 of them, the tradeoff comes at the price of a lower quality image.

Ah. Well, let's see...

So you can't put them up for, like, 12hrs in high-ish quality and larger resolution, so that they play well with little pixelation in full screen?

It is very difficult to cater to a portion of individuals who wish to have a higher quality video. It would be a waste of time to re-process video footage that has already been completed and to post it for a small amount of time to never be offered again. In addition, these clips are never going to be as good as riding the attraction itself. These clips are merely a refreshment of attractions you have already ridden and a small spoiler for those you have not.

Im sure you understand.

Yes, yes.

Pixelation is quite the bother though, mind you. But if it would be so much trouble to 're-process' the footage to a higher (640xwhatever-it-is) resolution, then I guess it is invariable. Yes?

I really don't want to dwell on this subject, but posting a video file for only a matter of hours is pointless and a huge waste of time, considering the time involved with encoding and uploading the clip. The filesize/bitrate we are using was choosen because it gives the best bang for your buck; and in the case of VF, that buck is free since you're not required to pay anything.

If you really want high resolution attraction video, I recommend the following:

1. Search Ebay for DVD's from "RU42"

2. Download videos from alt.binaries.multimedia.disney.parks

3. Download videos from IRC #Disney-central

Um.... How might I get to either "IRC #Disney-central", or "alt.binaries.multimedia.disney.parks"? I tried to get to both, but it didn't work. I typed alt.binaries.multimedia.disney.parks into google and went from there, but the site only had pictures I think.

Here is a guide I wrote for #D-C:

For the binaries, you will need to find out if your ISP has newsgroup access (visit their webpage or call their tech support.) If they do, then you need a news reader - I suggest Forte Agent.

I have everything all set up for #Disney-Central, followed all the steps in the link but when I go into it there isn't anyone in there. How do you get the files? Thanks
