Any Disney on Broadway fans? My love for theatre, and make it Disney on top of that, I'm totally there! Current Shows in New York and Touring Nationwide include Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King other shows include London's (and possibly within the next three years on Broadway) Mary Poppins There is also a German production of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (which is a great stage show btw) called Der Glockner von Notre Dame, and has recieved many rave reviews. Broadway talks about an American version of the show have so far been not likely. HOWEVER, with the closing of Tim Rice's and Elton John's AIDA this past year, Disney isn't leaving the Broadway market anytime soon. A recently confirmed production of TARZAN is underway and will be on Broadway Spring 2006. Also, a lot of speculation is that not far behind it will be The Little Mermaid on Broadway, which has already tested several workshops in New York, but you'll have to wait till after TARAZAN for that one!

I love the Disney Broadway stuff! I've only seen The Lion King so far, but I was absolutely amazed by it. The effects, the music, the whole spectacle.
I really, really want to see Beauty and the Beast, and I'm excited for Tarzan! I've also heard recently (I think it was a side note on playbill.com) that they've found someone to write the book for a Broadway version of Aladdin.

One of the few friends who actually understands my Disney obsession took me to see Beauty and the Beast when it was at the San Diego Civic theater a couple years back for my birthday. And then we went to Dave & Busters for video games and drinks after!
Disney, video games, and alcohol. That was one of the best birthdays I've ever had. :D

No, her engagement is over. Sorry, but the show is still just as amazing!

I have not heard that much. You might've been thinking about the show which is currently running at DCA Hyperion Theatre?

I adore Broadway. I love musicals. Problem is any trasnportation prevents me to seeing these things. I'm so uncultured.
I'm mad jealous at my friend who'll be seeing Wicked this week too...

Broadway + Disney = Good.
Loved Beauty and the Beast. Thought Lion King was pretty good, too. (I had seats on the aisle on the floor. Seeing the animal procession for Circle of like that way was a wonderful experience!
Also, I really want to see Disney's On The Record. It's been getting great reviews. Has anyone out there seen it?

Agreed - I had floor seats when I went to see the Lion King the first time, and so when I went to buy tickets for its upcoming San Diego stop, I made absolutely sure I got floor seats again. :)
I haven't seen On the Record yet, but I do have the Original Cast Recording and I love it. :)

i've seen both beauty & the beast and lion king in the disney broadway shows and both were fantastic! i was in london a few weeks ago and was going to see mary poppins, but unfortuneately ran outta time. quick question: i've heard about tarzan & little mermaid coming to broadway, but when is that supposed to take place? just curious, it'll be interesting to see how they do both those shows on stage- definitely only something disney could pull off.

I freakishly want Disney to get Der Glockner Von Notre Dame over here too. But I seriously doubt that to my utter dismay. Plus the soundtrack is out of print which adds to my wounds for being a Hunchback Of Notre Dame fan.
So who cares if it has more mature themes? Just target it at the older audience, please!

Tarzan recently press released an opening on Broadway in the Sping of 2006. Little Mermaid has yet to confirm anything that far, but should be premiering not too long after, check out playbill.com and search around!

Agreed. This is the Disney show that I thinks translates very well onstage. Its a dream of mine to direct a community theatre production in the far future...

Nope, this just came out a couple of months ago. Here's the link:
http://www.playbill.com/news/article/92358.html
It's in the last paragraph of the article. And note the date: April 14, 2005. So it's definitely not the DCA show they're talking about.

Me being a singer myself and my father being a professional jazz/broadway musician as his career all of his life (a good 40 years) I am a HUGE fan of musicals...but none have come to my town yet...untill November when Beauty and the Beast will be here! I can NOT wait! I want to see Mary Poppins so badly it hurts! Also, I'm pretty sure I will pass out in excitment when Little Mermaid comes out, me being an obsessive huge Ariel fan! Now that show will be worth a trip to NY just to see it.

i've seen Beauty & the Beast twice on Broadway and once in a communtity theatre, which may be a bit better, Lion king once, but want to see it again, and Tarzan & Mary Poppins are shows i currently have tickets for! Little Mermaid and Aladdin sound like amazing ideas to be Broadway shows! Maybe Fantasmic will make it to Broadway someday!

In Beauty and the Beast, does the Enchantress still have a "fire-ball"?

I totally agree with you. If my uncle hadn't given me his, I wouldn't have a soundtrack (I would have made a copy of my friends CD, though, because she was younger and got it when it came out). And it is Disney's fault (sorry, but it is) for making the previews for this movie target little kids. I would love to see Hunchback on the stage (can you imagine what the Hellfire sequence and the climax would look like on stage?!) It would be so cooool:biggrin:
Anyway, I saw a bilboard saying that Lion King is going to be in L.A. during my birthday. I hope I can go see it because I love the theatre and musicals.

I have such a thing for "Der Glockner von Notre Dame"....or maybe I have a thing for Drew Sarich....hmmmm...... Anyway it was a beautiful piece of work and amongst the "more learned" theater buffs out there the only piece of Disney theater work that they can respect. I, personally, do not understand the amnosity between the "true" Broadway fans (I say that with as much sarcasm as I can muster) and the Disney corporation. Anyway, for kicks, here's a cute pic of Drew Sarich and Ann Christin Elverum from the German production:

I think there is something so endearing about Drew's Quasimodo.
Hey, Mousekiteer, PM me! I swear you won't regret it!
