View Full Version : Personal dilemma! Need advice from others!

Okay, here's the deal.

I have been slamming away at school (Yes, I am a full-time college student at 37 years old, LOL!), and I REAAAALLY want to go to Disneyland in August for my birthday.

I started dating this wonderful girl about a year ago, and she just recently started 2 jobs. I told her that I want to take her to Disneyland. I even booked the flight and hotel! It was a trip as a reward to myself for maintaining my 3.8 GPA, and a gift to us as a kind of 1st anniversary present.

She is telling me that she doesn't think she can take time off of work to go, and I am CRUSHED! She just told me this 5 minutes ago, while I was writing in another forum on this site, as a matter of fact!

The question is: Should I not go at all, or should I go anyway? My Dad says that he is willing to go, and I think that would be super cool as well. I don't want to go without her, but at the same time I am thinking about the fact that I have not had a break in a year and a half of school. I have been bent over a desk and had my face in books for far too long!

Can somebody help me with this?

Looking forward to your help, this is a really sad turn of events!

Hans

GO!! You will regret not going. And, in the words of a Disney competitor known as Universal Studios, "Take back your vacation!"

Talk to her, I am sure she will understand, you deserve it.

If she doesn't want to go, that is ultimately her choice. You can beg & plead with her but if she says no then there isn't a whole lot you can do. That shouldn't stop you, however. As crushing at might be to know you won't be able to share the experience with her, turn the negative into a positive! How many 37 year-old's do you know would go with their Dad to Disneyland? IMO that would be a way cool thing to do. Hopefully it scores some brownie points with the girl when she sees the kind of familial bonds you & you family have.

Go with your Dad. You will need the break for your own sanity and the booking has already happened. Give her another chance, just in case something can be done about her work schedule, but go no matter what.

I say GO!!! Having just graduated myself being a full-time college student, you deserve a break! Plus, you already have it planned! If she cannot go, go with your dad. I know if I did not go, I would kick myself later on-so GO! Have fun!

^ Seriously, people shouldn't ever shy away from doing things with their parents just because some might think it's 'uncool'. I do stuff with my parents all the time, I think that relationship is way more important than any girlfriend or "buddy" I might have or eventually come across. So don't let that stop you from going with your Dad. If he truely wants to go, then have a blast!

I totally agree PMM! Unfortunatly, some friends and boyfriends/girlfriends come and go-but you will always have your family. I love to go with my parents, because afterall, they are the ones who introduced me to the magic in the first place!;)

I have thought about it a lot, and I am going to go with Dad if it comes down to that. My girlfriend is just in a situation that may not allow her to go at this time, and she will be cool with it.

As far as my Dad goes, he is the most awesome person on the planet, and he took me to Disneyland for the first time when I was around 6 years old. We used to go every couple of years for a very long time, and this trip has been a loooooong time coming. He is 67 now, and when he is in the L.A. area he always stops off at Disneyland, even if it is all by himself. He and I have a lot in common in the love of that place. He went there the year the park opened, and he has never had enough of it.

Oh, did I mention that he is a retired surgeon, and that I am going into medical with a 3.85 GPA to get me started? What a great time to celebrate! From welder to medical professional... He is just as excited about it as I am.

Again, thank you guys for all of the input, I really needed it. No matter what, I am having a vacation to the parks, and I am bringing home some awesome video and pictures as well.

See ya!

:)
