I don't trust this new president of Disney, my friend told me that he is planning to sell Disneyland to Comcast, the cable company. I heard this news back in 2003.
Plus he won't even waste that much money and he did increase the admission price of Disneyland to $56. The previous price was $53. He would even stop making 2D animation Disney movies and only make 3D movies, like Chicken Little for example. Robert wants to save money.
2D animation is dead pretty much dead in America. Is that true, he is doing that? I don't like him, kind of.
(Admin edit: fixed topic title to be a little more correct. Disney is owned by shareholders, not the CEO)

Iger. Iger.
Besides, it's too early to really decide. He did offer Roy a posistion in the company and obviously he took it.
Ouimet increased the prices.
And you're pretty much bringing the Eisner biases on the new guy.
Kthnx.

I say until Eisner leaves the company, we won't know for sure. I'm willing to give him a chance. Honestly he has been doing some good things thus far. As far as Comcast goes: It was for a merger with the entire company, not Disneyland. Also, one man cannot do that alone. I believe that deal is dead in the water. Most of the statements made above are actually pouring out of Eisner's reign, not Iger (he's not fully in charge yet!) And, give the man credit: he got Roy E Disney to drop his lawsuit and brought him back to the company (even though he doesn't have any real power.) Eisner wanted him gone. Period. He has renewed talks with Pixar. The same talks that were ended because of the animosity between Eisner and Steve Jobs.
There is definitely hope, albeit cautious hope...

WOA... no no no.... Comcast proposed a buyout of the Disney Company... no single person can just up and sell the company. Even if EISNER had gone on with the plans, I believe he would have had to go to the board for such a large ordeal. (kinda what was said above...)
Plus he won't even waste that much money
on what?
and he did increase the admission price of Disneyland to $56. The previous price was $53.
Price increase was made by Matt Ouimet, probably in light of the declining value of the US Dollar, AND the HUGE amounts of money being put into the park instead of being leeched out.
He would even stop making 2D animation Disney movies and only make 3D movies, like Chicken Little for example.
Eisner is the one who fired all of our traditional animators. Eisner is the one that broke off connections with Pixar, and out of spite, has a lineup of in-house 3D films for Walt Disney Animation in the next couple years. One of these in-house films being Toy Story 3. (grrrrrrrr)
Robert wants to save money.
Doesn't everyone? Besides, its in his job discription. Bring profits, stock value, and capital up... while keeping costs down AND consumers happy.

For the record, Walt Disney Co. is a publicly traded company, so Iger doesn't technically own it. The board of directors elected Iger to be the company's President & COO and will also be CEO soon, so while he may act like the owner, all stockholders are technically owners. If I bought a share of Disney, then I'd be an owner too, yay! Comcast deal is dead, so yay for that. So he's the top brass that has the ultimate say in everything. Even though Eisner wants to mold Bob into his own image, it's clear to me that Iger has his own star he's trying to reach and he looks much much better than Eisner reaching it. Just from the 7/17 ceremony alone I could tell that Bob has his head in the game & won't do some stupid things that cost the company big time. Oh, and prices are going to go up every few years with inflation kids. This happens no matter who's the President of Disney & who's the President of the United States. We're really lucky inflation has been as low as it has been these past few years.

Thanks for the information, i get it now. I didn't understand about Iger being a new president for the company. When will Eisner quit his Disney career, he fired all of the great traditional animators that draw 2D animation.
I don't like it when Disney is making their own 3D movies, Pixar makes the best. I can't believe it that Disney's partnership with Pixar is over. Unless both companies rejoin it's partnership. Stupid Eisner!

Iger hasn't proven to me that he can make change for the better, but he has gotten me to believe that he can.
I had never heard him speak until the 50th. Maybe its just because he nailed one of the reasons why I personally like Disneyland so much, but he seemed to "get it." ...at least much more than Eisner did. I will admit--Eisner did a lot of good for the company during his carrer at Disney. But its time for him to go. During his speech, I just heard all of his other speeches. To sum it up:
"Disneyland is magic...
we bring you the magic...
Walt knew the magic...
I enjoy the magic...
its very magical...
the Disney Magic."
He's too wrapped up in saying that! Magic! Its like he opened up Microsoft Word, and that paperclip came up saying "Hello...it looks like you are trying to write a Disney Press Event speech! Can I be of assistance?" Its as if he no longer gets that theres more to magic, than just putting it in his speeches!
Iger however. He nailed it. He DESCRIBED the magic, without having to say it. He talked about seeing different kinds of people (families, teenagers, elderly people), all of different races entering the park in the morning. Dispite all of these differences, he mentioned that they had one main similarity: they all had smiles on their faces. If anybody follows imagineering, they know that the product of what they do, is a smile. That is why I like Disney in the first place!
So either Iger has a better speech writer, or he "gets it". That leads me to believe that he is capable of bringing about the necessary changes...now we just need to see him try to do it.

I've learned not to take anyone at face value, and though it appears that Iger will do well once Eisner is out of the center-seat, I'm going to have reservations until I can see that Iger really does want to restore the "Magic" in the way Walt's vision saw it as.
Overall, he sounds like a pretty good chap. We'll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds.

Isn't Iger the one that is being credited for shutting down that Disney business division that ALL decisions had to go through to be approved, and was infamous for saying "no" to really good business ideas? I'm at work and can't research it from my computer files... but it was heralded as one of the smartest moves FOR Disney and the first thing that Iger supposedly did.
I feel like I can say that Rasulo, Ouimet, and Emmers "get it". They are the main guys who are going to most effect Disneyland. I feel good about them.
Looking at the pictures I took of Iger and Eisner and Diane Disney Miller, it does seem that Iger had moments of actually enjoying himself. Eisner... not so much.

I really didn't hear booing from people when Eisner came out. Maybe I wasn't close enough or something. I also kinda didn't like how Arnold made it a political speech, and the whole thing with the motorcycle was a joke. Although I did like Iger's speech. He was handed a plate full of bad food and now has to clean it and I think he is taking the right approach, it is just going to take a little time. we'll see though.

It was him, and it WAS a great move. Plus, between that (being one of Eisner's ideas), Roy, and Pixar talks renewed, it doesn't seem like the man has any problem saying "Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Michael!"
Iger, in my opinion is a shrewd business man. He was looked at as an Eisner cronie, but it seems in many areas he was just playing Eisner to get his ultimate prize.
I still remain catiously optimistic!
