Stories like that always tug at my heart. I hope she is ok. You go for a great vacation (she came all the way from England) or whatever and something happens to you that will change your life forever. You're there for a good time and it ends up a nightmare. It's just not right.

Here we go again... It's Deathtrap Disney I tells ya! Think of the puppies! Stay away! :icon_lol:
Ok, ok, kidding aside, this is really smelling like another pre-existing condition case. This is why I told Max Fischer to check for this before taking his mom on any of the rides. People need to excersize good judgment before going on any ride of any type. *Looks at that last sentence* Jeez, who am I trying to kid with that?

What are you talking about? A teenage girl had a heart attack riding a ride. I don't care if it was at six flags or a weekend carnival. It has nothing to do with precious Disneyland getting sued again. This is a young girls life hanging by a thread and it sucks! I hope she is ok.

?We?re satisfied that at this initial stage ... maybe there was some sort of medical issue,? Solomons said."
I'll reserve my 'Personal Responsibility' comments until we can get more information on whether or not this girl had a previous heart condition.
For now, hope she makes it.

When these things happen, you hope that people can learn from other peoples mistakes. While I'm sure that everyone here wishes for the girl to get better. I'm also pretty sure that none of us want to see it happen again.

Yup very true, but with these things you'll never know, you could be skipping down main street, then on your back nearly facing death the very next, these things happen, im sure the girl was feeling like on top of the world till she got off TOT, I mean I never had problems on any ride at disneyland, but I could, I could die on something simple like jungle cruise for all I care, Lol. So yeah, I know you hear nothing but negativity at the happiest place on earth, but remember Disney does there best to make everyone happy and have the greatist time as possible, but theres always going to be someone sick or has a problem with there heart on something, but its all in Gods hands.

I really do hope that she does get better, but?.and here?s where I?ll start in?if this is related to some kind of previous medical condition that she and/or her parents were aware of, I have very little sympathy.
Of course I may have sounded a bit heartless with that last comment, but come on now people?.I am so tired of people not taking responsibility for their own actions or, inactions because they chose to disregard their own health and the posted safety precautions, or did not take the time to schedule an appointment to assess their own health and take preventative measures so that something like this does not occur.
Like I said, if it comes to the aforementioned. Now, if there was no indication that this teenager was prone to heart attacks, or there was no record of any previous medical conditions, then all the best for her. Disney did what they had to do in order to save face and insure the public interest, which for any big corporation I would expect.
However, if her parents attempt to force a lawsuit, this is again where I have little sympathy. To kind of paraphrase what Legend_S has said, Disney did all they could and they still do all they can to forewarn people about the dangers of riding these kind of rides, as does any amusement park. Unfortunately, if this was an incident by chance, then no amount of prevention could have stopped this from happening, therefore I see no grounds that could be used as a lawsuit against Disney. Chit happens, plain and simple. I would have tried to use an example of ?You wouldn?t sue McDonalds for making you fat?, but alas, someone has already tried that one.
So again, let us wait and see what transpires from this incident. All my best to that 15 year old girl in the hopes that she gets better.

Interesting that she was operated on by a neurosurgeon. Neurosurgeons do brain surgery (and sometimes back or nerve tissue), not heart surgery.
Celebration Hospital... is that Disney owned, since Disney owns Celebration, Florida?

Something else had to happen for a neurosurgeon to step in for surgery on a patient that just had a heart attack. Quite interesting. I do hope that she is ok and will make a full recovery.

I feel badly for this girl and her family. Although I'm not sure why a neurosurgeon was involved, unless it was for blood somehow not getting to the brain, spine as said by DaddyB. She nor her parents may have known of a previous condition. My uncle had a hole in his heart and he didn't even know he had it until he went to Universal in Florida. He had a similar incident (this was several years ago BTW) however not as severe, and after doing the necessary testing they found the hole. He knew he got tired at times but he thought nothing of it. Come to find out that's what the problem was. He later died due to this condition. I think any parent who knows of a serious medical condition would let their child make the decision to go on a ride of this type. My assumption is that they were not aware of it. Hopefully we will ge more news soon...

According to MousePlanet "the cardiac arrest may have been due to an undetected aneurism that ruptured, causing a hemorrhage in her brain". That makes more sense, right?

There was this one girl in my class last year that did a report about dinsey and how it is so bad to go there. She listed all the deaths in disneyland and how we can be the next ones. I guess we could be the next one to die. but if you think about it, dineyland is pretty safe if you look at other parks.

yeah i agree, even employees at magic mountain are dying on the rides, i mean come on, Disney doesn't need that kind of publicity...after all it's THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH!! and if you notice disney parks probably warn you of the possible effects of the ride on you probably more than anywhere else does...

Was that girl counting deaths that occurred during ride malfunction only, or overall? If it was overall, I have to disagree, because the past three incidents involving any kind of medical emergency and Disney have been due to the individual, not the ride. In fact, each report from Mission Space, Matterhorn, and Tower of Terror have all said that the ride is in perfect working condition.
Ok, we can all be next for our time to go. That statistic remains true for everyone that crosses a street, walks into a 7-Eleven, or just closes their door before heading off to work or school in the morning. It's not just Disneyland.
Tell that girl she needs to spend some time over here on the boards. We'll change her mind about how "bad Disneyland is"....right quick. :)

There is a website out there that lists every death at Disneyland. Considering they have been open for 50 years it is an amazingly small number. The website goes on to point out that except for two incidents (The rigging on the Columbia coming loose and a malfunction with Big Thunder) all the deaths were either "their time" or due to guest negiligence. I'm not sure what her report said but Disney cannot be blamed because someone hid in the park until closing and tried to swim the Rivers of America or climbed onto the Monorail track in an attempt to sneak into the park.
As for this girl and her family, I do hope she recovers to live a long and healthy life. Just make sure people consider how long this ride has been opened and how few incidents like this have happened.

Well, you remember the kid at WDW. FOUR YEARS OLD. What is wrong with his mom. I do not want anyone on this thread mad at me, but:icon_roll People just do not want to listen. Splash Mountain, The Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror. Of course, I really don't think any one person was at fault on TOT. Things just happen. Oh, at WDW, the Haunted Mansion was shut down, because THE GIRL HOPPED FROM ONE DOOM BUGGY TO ANOTHER, WHILE THE RIDE WAS MOVING, FELL AND WAS DRAGGED BY THE BUGGY TO THE EXIT BEFORE THEY GOT TO HER!!! Know why, she wanted to sit by her friend. And she was NOT six!
