Remember in Disneyland when there was...
A parking lot as far as the eye could see in the front
A ticket booth that had ticket prices at approx $40 or less
Nothing past It's A Small World or the Fantasyland Theater
A crowd more than 10 people in the Country Bear Jamboree
An escalator like walkway up to Space Mountain
A ride called the Rocket Jets and the Peoplemover in the center of Tomorrowland
An Submarine Voyage lagoon Actually filled with water, a little joke
A seperate Autopia for kids
A boat ride near the Matterhorn where now it's a guest resting area, if you noticed the little things in D-land, you remember this
A ride called Rocket To The Moon, which was a "Eh, could be better" on my scale
A tree house occupied by the Swiss Family Robinson and not Tarzan
a less exciting jungle before the Indiana Jones Adventure
More pirate plundering in the Carribean before it's renovation, some of you might remember those certain things that were changed
A Critter Country that only had one type of critter...bears....at least until a certain happy go-lucky rabbit came with an exciting adventure down a mountain
I know that there are plenty more thing's I'm sure you can remember, I didn't list all of them as you can see, that's where you come in. Feel free to post anything you remember that no longer exists or is forgotten as well as pictures even, which would be a nice touch.
Happy Posting!

I remember some of those...especially when you are young and have to walk through most of the parking lot from the shuttle that took you from your hotel to the park...that was a long walk!!!
Remember when there wasn't an organized bus area and it was just a mad rush to your shuttle/bus to take you back to your hotel?

Yes to all.
Remember a time when there was:
An open air theatre in TL before a certain Captain saved a world?
Before Critter Country and a mountain, threre was a giant wall with a cave and a bear named Rufus snoring away.
I remember a restaurant in Tomorrowland called the "SPACE PLACE". I remember having a drink called "SPACE MIST". I remember the book of tickets or the all day pass you pinned to the front of your shirt. I remember the restaurant inside the pirate ship that served fish and chips. I remember the store that sold moccasins in critter country. I remember a killer arcade next to space mountain, now its just filled with broken duds and dance dance revolution machines (yuk). I remember when I was a kid and I believed that I really did shrink and go through a snowflake crystal , Pirates really were fighting , ghosts were trying to scare my pants off , and I took an out of this world flight through the darkest reaches of space and back!

Remember when its a small world had lots of color on the outside with lots of pinks, baby blues, and light orange colors.
Remember the good old days when Big Thunder Mountain Railroad went faster than it does today.
Remember when there was a Carrousel, a Carrousel of Progress
Remember the days of conviently taking the Skyway as a shortcut to the Autopia and Submarine Voyage from Fantasyland.
Remember the good days of a certain Jackson dancing and singing in a spectacular 3D show.
Remember when the Monorail used to stop at the Disneyland Hotel.
Remember when The Main Street Electrical Parade had Pleasure Island and a Snow White Mine Float.
Remember When Fantasmic had an Ursula Float during Ursulas Monologue/Song with syncronized voicing.

Huge fan as a kid, I don't remember a whole lot of the ride... just the fact that I actually got to drive the boat and the voices that came along with it.

I remember most of those! I also remember when Tomorrowland had gray subs, Flying Saucers, an RC plane arena, a House of the Future, and an actual rocket in front of the Flight to the Moon. When Fantasyland had Capt. Hooks' ship and a skyway. When there was a Mine Train ride through Rainbow Caverns and the painted desert. When "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" really were great moments. Ah, those were the days. :)
Oh and I also remember and sorely miss the CircleVision America The Beautiful!!

I do remember the swiss robinson family treehouse when it was still that...not tarzans treehouse. I have to say...I liked it alot more before they turned to tarzan. But I also see that tarzan is what the kids know of these days, and they are the ones going on it.

Kids went on Swiss Family Robinson & had more fun I think. I remember going through it not knowing anything about the Swiss Family Robinson movie but it was still fun climbing through the thing. Still the same basic things there plus some extra movie props & corny displays. It was a foolish, USH-esque move that was made in order to advertise a new attraction.

Does anyone remember when Chip and Dale and the Rescue Rangers were part of the Autopia?

It was located not to far from 'its a small world' if I remember right, you could see the boats form the Chip n' Dale cars, I used to watch Chip n' Dale as a kid I still love that show.

I remember when the Monorail pillars had no shrubbery/fence around them. (I would hug a specific one as I left...)
I remember being able to walk straight up into POTC...there was no bridge or winding...
I remember when the Haunted Mansion had a lawn in front and the side and there were tombstones there too...not just on the wall in the back...
I remember seeing CircleVision as a kid and thinking it was the coolest thing...I still do *sniffle*
I remember loving America Sings and the first time I rode Splash with the same characters...I don't even think of Splash in the Ferry Boat scene at the end...it's America Sings to me...
I remember being able to get a snack from my mom when we rode the People Movers and when we got home, my brother and I would watch Tron.
I remember that airy sound as you went on the Skyway through Matterhorn...
I remember when my dad could spin the teacups so fast I would dang near barf when I got off...
I remember the Monorail going all the way over to the DL Hotel (as mentioned before)
I remember the first year the Main Street Electrical Parade came out and I was sitting across from the Penny Arcade. That line in the fireworks show makes me tear up...
I'm thankful there is a place on this earth where I can go as an adult, with children of my own, and "remember when"...and help my kids to create their own...

operafloozy and AlexLoup you are to funny. I got you both beat. The first time I went to Disneyland was 1958 I was 6 months old. To young to remember but I do remember:
The Rocket ship to the Moon ride, it was scarry when I was 5, I never went on it again.
The Skyway was very cool.
The Indian Village-no not the one you see on the Mark Twain an actually Indian Village with authentic Native American dancers.
Captain Hooks pirate ship.
The old mine train canyon ride.
The motor boats where cool.
The Swiss Family Robinson tree house was way better then Tarzan's tree house.
Ticket books and only having so many E tickets so you really had to choose which rides to go on. In those days you didn't get to go on the rides as many times as you want. Usually it was just one time only.
AlexLoup
07-08-2005, 08:49 PM
My parents still have the ticket books, my dad went in '56 when he was 6 and my mom went in '55 when she was four months.
My mother wanterd us to go for my birthday, but my brother was born in April so we went whem he was three months and I was two... and I walked the whole thing.
I remember when there was no Splash Mountain, I even have a picture of me with one of the Country bears in a picture thing.. that's gone now.
Do they still have the toy pistols and rifles from Pirates?

Remember that one land called Tomorrowland? I do! It once was my favorite place. But from what I have heard, Tomorrowland may be coming back!
(I couldn't resist!:p )
Remember the good rocket jets?
One of my favorite memories was watching cars file into the ginormous parking lot from the Disneyland hotel before the park opened super early in the morning, then watching all of the cars file out of the parking lot at the end of the night. The vast, empty parking lot used to fascinate me!

We always seemed to lose our car in the parking lot. I can remember my older sister and brother going in opposite directions to help look for the car and hearing yelling at each other and calling each other names. My dad getting mad at them because he was tired and just wanted to find the car.

Well i remember that there was no Califonia adventure. I only saw a large parking lot filled with Disney characters on the light poles. Also that no rocket rods yet and i still remember The Peoplemover was still there, It was my favorite ride in Tomorromland.

I remember when there wasn't a mad rush of people herding themselves from Mainstreet to Rivers of America right after a fireworks show.
I also remember walking and personal space. Gotta watch out for heel biters aka strollers.
There was also some dinosaur morning parade. I have it on vhs somewhere.

I remember looking off my balcony at the Disneyland Hotel and watching Fantasy Waters.
I remember getting cherry slushies at the Monorail Cafe.
Here are all the daytime parades I remember from the past:
Lets see...It was a patriotic parade and I remember the people singing "Living it up in America, living it up the American way"
Then there was the World according to Goofy parade.
Then there was the Aladdin parade
Then the Lion King
Then I think Hercules
There was a Mulan parade, maybe it came before the Hercules one
Then there was the 45th anniversary parade that stayed there until the 50th anniversary
I also remember the Electrical Light Parade with my favorite float...Pleasure Island.
I do remember the old Tomorrowland and seeing Captain EO that one time when I was about 4.
Also, when POTC had a more authentic pirate feeling.
And that's about all I can think of.

The Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers Autopia...Or how abot Mission To Mars? What was the name of the animitronic guy who was the main character?

And also, does anyone remember the hoedown Disneyland put on one summer? (1989 maybe?) There was a country themed parade with a host of cows and other livestock marching down Main Street USA. And there was also a show in the Big Thunder Ranch Area called Pig Mania. I have it on tape (I was two or three at the time and slept through the whole thing --- thought I don't know how!) Yeah you had only so many E tickets and you were very selective - we still have a box of tickets too that my Mom saved. We would buy tickets at the ticket booths like the fairs.
We were there for the grand opening of the Haunted Mansion - and it scared me to death!
And don't forget the cast members would be dressed like the land they worked in - nothing was the same you always knew where you were.

I remember the Tahitian Terrace, (where Aladdin's Oasis is in Adventureland)...My family would go in there to eat and watch the Hawaiian guys swallow fire and watch the girls hula and if you were lucky (like I was), the girls would give you a lei and a shell necklace.
I know! I wish wish wish they still had that, I am a Hawaiian dancer and it would have been a dream to be able to dance at Disneyland! *t-tear*

Greetings,
After reading the previous posts, I'm beginning to feel old. Does anyone else remember:
* Tommorowland before the late 60"s renovation ?
* The Hills Bros. Coffee House off Main Street ?
* Having to use actual tickets to get onto/into attractions ?
*Fantasyland, before you could walk through to Big Thunder ?
*Sunkist, I Presume ?
*Prior to the Haunted Mansion opening, the signs telling guests about the 999 spirits,
and asking if you wanted to be number 1,000 ?
*The Bell Telephone Circle ?
*How about the Tobacco Shop ?
*The Upjohn Pharmacy on Main Street ?
*Monsanto's Hall of Chemistry ?
*Winnie the Pooh when he had a "Hunny" pot on his head ?
cheers,

I can remember Skull Rock from when I was 4. Did it have a green light in it? That I can't remember?
I remember the Space Buckets.
I remember being afraid of some of the characters. (They did look more scary back in 1966 and I was only 4) Are the Three Little Pigs still in DLR?
i still remember The Peoplemover was still there, It was my favorite ride in Tomorromland.
I remember going to a ticket booth and buying extra "D" tickets so I could ride The Peoplemover again.
I can remember Skull Rock from when I was 4. Did it have a green light in it? That I can't remember?
Yes inside the empty eye-sockets it glowed an eerie green color. I loved that little pirate lagoon. And Fantasyland didn't look like a village then; It looked like a tournament ground. All the ride facades looked like striped tents.
I remember being afraid of some of the characters. (They did look more scary back in 1966 and I was only 4)
They sure did. Here's an amusing article by Jeff Lange (http://www.jimhillmedia.com/author.php?id=84) over at Jim Hill Media (http://www.jimhillmedia.com/) about the kindler, gentler Capt. Hook (http://www.jimhillmedia.com/article.php?id=1694)
Oh and I remember when characters frolicked around the park at random. I once saw Pinocchio collapse on a hot day, and be carried away by Gideon and Fowlfellow. That was very disconcerting! Who knew a little wooden head could suffer heat exhaustion?

I remember some of those...especially when you are young and have to walk through most of the parking lot from the shuttle that took you from your hotel to the park...that was a long walk!!!
Remember when there wasn't an organized bus area and it was just a mad rush to your shuttle/bus to take you back to your hotel?
We used to stay at the Cosmic Age Motel or the Galaxy Motel which were both next to the Candy Cane which is now parking lot area. In the morning while everyone was still asleep, I would get up and go jogging into the BIG
parking lot. It would be early and I would see lots of CM's driving in (when they parked back there) and wave to them as I jogged by.

Does anyone remember the boats... the Fantasyland boats that became the Gummi Bears boats?
I fact does anyone remember the Gummi Bears at all?
Ah yes...the boats. That was always fun because our kids that they were really steering and made sure to try to concentrate and do a good job.
Of course it was makeout time for mom/dad sitting in the back in the darker back areas of the ride. ;)

OK,
Remember, "OK, kids, remember we parked in Dumbo."
Or how about the seven dwarfs...with moving nosed...I got a home video with that...they were scary
As a matter of fact remember when the characters ACTUALLY WALKED AROUND!!! (ok they do a little, but come on!)

Remember...
1. The gigantic parking lot
2. While waiting in line for D-land to open, staring at the monorail track waiting to see it woosh by with Hotel goers. That's when I knew I was at Disneyland
3. Did the Monorail have a station closer to the Hotels? It seems like it did, I remember seeing them up close as we pulled into the station.
4. Ah yes, the buckets
5. The motorboat cruise; only very recently was I informed that the steering wheels were useless! I was temporarily traumatized...
6. A more frontierish frontierland (a frontierland before Quazimodo invaded)
7. Big Thunder Ranch BBQ *sniff* I want some ribs from a covered wagon.
8. Big Thunder Ranch
9. Keel Boats; I would always ride them with my dad because I was too scared to ride the Haunted Mansion and later Splash Mountain.
10. Tahitian Terrace *sniff*; I was genuinely sad when this was switched with the Aladdin show.
11. The Whitewashed Tomorrowland; I'll admit, it looked pretty ratty before the 1990s makeover, and there was nothing there except for the peoplemover, Star Tours, and Space Mountain. The Carosel of Progress building was empty, blue, and ugly. I remember waiting for the Tomorrowland we now have today (which is now itself becoming pretty ratty).
12. Captain EO, I was younger and can only remember Hooter (or, whoever) flying out into the audience and saying goodbye.
13. OLD SCHOOL AUTOPIA (80s), by far the best one fo them all; today's may have a cooler track, but the cars were way cooler before the recent revamp (I would so buy an old one and drive it around my neighborhood)!
14. Subs, shoving your face in the porthole, and believing the fish were real.
15. The white and gold facade of Small World.
I'm a firm believer in the fact that Disneyland should continue to be updated. It's sad that some of our favorites are now gone, but the young ones of today will be doing the same thing in about 20-25 years about the Disneyland of today ("Remember those cool space rocks in front of Tomorrowland? They should bring those back...").

The original Mickey Mouse club that was in the Fantasyland Theater... you could become an honorary member and get a club card... (I have a picture)... :^)
The Fantasia ice cream cone (that was just discontinued recently) with triple scoops...
Skull Rock...
The orginal "Golden Horseshoe Review"... what a fun show...
The Fort on Tom Sawyers Island...
The wonderful bowl of chili with green plastic silverware that was really neat cause you could take them home and reuse them because they were heavy duty...
When the Haunted Mansion was built on the outside, but didn't open until years later...
The Keel boats...
The Indian dances in what is now Critter Country...
The Mule ride (where Thunder Mountain is now)...
The Mine Train...
The Skyway...
House of Tomorrow...
Carousel of Progress...
Flying saucers...
When there was only one bobsled that held 4 people at a time and weren't connected to another bobsled...
The show's at the Tomorrowland Theater that celeberty's would put on...
Blast to the Past... 50's themed throughout the park... awesome...
I know there are alot more... so bring them on...

I must be getting old, but I remember ALL of those things. skirt chasin pirates, kiddie boat and car rides, I even have a video of pre indy jungle cruise. i must have been like... 3. its so wierd. the animals are in different places... the trees were not nearly as tall and the foliage not nearly as dense. back when they had the old line waiting area...
I remember when i was small enough to run around places like tom sawyers island. I remember when captain eo came out. I remember that when star tours first came out, there were characters from the movie that rode with you the first couple days it was out.
i actually remember going on the submarines.i remember one of the first times i felt and recognized patriotism was when i saw mr. lincoln. i remember the circle vision theater and going waaaaay up on those rockets that are now the astro orbiter. i recall characters that you just dont see as much of any more... the white rabbit... friar tuck.... a winnie the pooh with a pot of honey on his head.... baloo.... baloo the pilot from tail spin... scrooge mcduck... chip and dale from chipa and dale rescue rangers.... darkwing duck.... donald duck used to look alot different.... wow... im not even that old!! thats how you can tell if someone is a true disneylander... when they are lifelong disneylanders.

Does anyone remember when they had futuristic thing going on in the mid 80's and outside the the gates they had a bunch of prototype cars of the future including the police car from "Blade Runner?" Or how about Donald Duck's 50th birthday celebration with a parade and they gave out free party hats and pins? Good times. I remember when HISTA/Captain EO was an open air theatre with a stage. Right after Aladdin came out they had a virtual reality game where you flew the magic carpet, located at the Starcade.

Fantasyland before the remodel.
Riding a rocketship to the moon.
The giant eyball that scared the begeezus out of me on the Monsanto ride.
Coon skin hats and cork guns in Frontierland.
Magic Morning breakfasts.

I remember the first marquee. The original had "Disneyland" in it's classic calligraphic letters on blocks large enough for each letter. Below was the light up marquee similar to what they use to display prices at the gas station. That old marquee was still being used when I was a kid in the '80s.
I remember the second marquee. It was pink and had Sleeping Beauty Castle at the top, center of the structure with penants flanking the castle on each side. There was an electronic marquee that they could keep up to date and display other languages.
I remember the entrance. When you came south on Harbor (from I-5), there was a multi-lane split off of Harbor that got a little wider. It joined up with the traffic entering through the still current Harbor entrance you see today. You approached a toll plaza behind where Candy Cane Inn is today. Back then, the Candy Cane was actually twin Best Western hotels (Cosmic Age Lodge and Galactic Motor Inn).
Remember when there were several motels in the area that had Space Age themes? I remember Space Age Logde (now BW Pavillions), Anaheim Stardust (still there, but not a Best Western anymore), BW Apollo Inn (on West St., possibly between DLH and the current PPH), and the two mentioned up above. I remember seeing a shuttle one time for Astro Inn, but I'm not sure about it's former location. It might have been the current BW Park Place Inn on Ball/West. I remember all those places had blue and green panels on the railings of the upper floors. Those panels looked like they had been punched full of hole made by meteors. The popcorn ceilings in the rooms had glitter on them to create the illusion of stars. Anaheim Stardust has sinced ditched the popcorn ceilings and painted day glow paint on the ceilings and added black lights to the rooms. Turn off the lights, turn on the black lights, and instant Milky Way!

1 - The walkways with wood fences around the castle
2- The Golden Horseshoe Revue (yes those of us remember it, that was one of the first shows I took my teens to, my daughter was 5 and was brought up on stage - darnit, and I didn't take pictures - it was a riot!)
3 - Yes I remember the big eye on Monsonto - scared me to death, I didn't want to get shrunk!
4 - Mission to Mars
5 - Animitronics going to the moon, watch the show in the middle and while sitting in your seats you went to the moon
6- Actual tickets - and when you were out you'd beg mom and dad to buy more E tix
7 - ticket takers at the front of line queues
8 - no waiting to get in the park at any time in the day
9 - Indians at the front of Frontierland - sitting by teepees, doing crafts
10-Davy Crockett walking around Frontierland
11-Kool and the Gang and other disco bands playing at the Tomorrowland theatre - dancing all night!
12-Popcorn shrimp and fried clams by HM - now there is McDonalds fries
13-Actual apocarthy store on main street
14-The bank WAS a bank
15-No crowds in Tomorrowland
16-the house of Tomorrow - I remember the microwave - we were amazed and thought it would never happen!
I'll think of more ;) Good times, great memories!

Oooo, I remember so much. My first visit was in 68 and I was 2 months old and I have gone at least once a year, sometimes for 16 days at a time, every year since then.
The Sunkist Shop on Main street where you could get a frozen OJ bar that was so good.
Where Blue Ribbon Bakery is now was a sit down restaurant.
The patio area out of Showcase was a place to have breakfast before the rest of the park was open, but you could wonder around Main Street.
And I would like to say...

Does anyone remember the boats... the Fantasyland boats that became the Gummi Bears boats?
I fact does anyone remember the Gummi Bears at all?
The ride was called the Motorboat Cruise
Way, way back:
How about the Upjohn Pharmacy? It was where the New Century Clock store is now.
The Magic Shop in Fantasyland. I think they sell swords there now.
The Living Desert on the Mine Train Ride complete with geyers and boiling mud pots
The Indian Village with all the dancing
The World Clock where the Astro Orbiter is now.
The House of the Future where Ariel's Grotto is now
Skull Rock next to Captain Hooks Pirate Ship restaurant in Fantasyland
The video phones you saw when you exited the Circlerama Theater, now the Buzz Lightyear ride
Stunt men in western costumes having gun battles in Frontierland firing very loud blanks at each other
The original Alice in Wonderland ride with the "upside-down" room
The audio-animatronic parrot talking at the Tiki Room entrance
The settler's cabin actually burning on the ROA with the settler lying dead in his front yard pierced by an arrow
The Flying Saucer ride which was like bumper cars floating on a giant air-hockey type surface
The Autopia with no center guide rail
The mock up of Walt Disney's office in the Opera House queue
Guided Tour Hostesses in English riding uniforms
The Adventureland shooting gallery
Toad Hall being where Aladdin's palace is today on the Storybook Canal ride
The Crocodiles "always looking for a hand-out" at the beginning of the Jungle Cruise
The Main Street Bank was an actual bank (B of A, I think)
The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea walk-thru was the only place you could find Nemo, now Star Tours
Still I am very happy with the Disneyland of today. We have gained a whole lot more than we have lost.
I loved that thing, they way it would go past the Mighty Microscope and the Progress City model from the Carousel of Progress.
I used to buy extra D tickets so I could ride the PeopleMover again.
The lovely girl in the ticket booth would say, helpfully
Don't you mean E ticket?
and I would say No, D. I want to ride the PeopleMover.
and she would nod and say Oh, that would be D then...
and smile really broadly, take my 70c and hand me the ticket.

Sorry, my description doesn't make a lot of sense, but I couldn't really think of a better way to put it since it isn't a totally clear memory to me. ;)
I also seem to remember this howling wind sound whenever I was near the Matterhorn. Is that still there? I don't remember hearing it recently.

How about the telephone technology exhibit in Tomorrowland - I don't remember if it was sponsored by Ma Bell or A T & T - you could examine and use diffierent kinds of telephones - even a speaker-phone (before anyone had them in their homes).

Does anyone remember the boats... the Fantasyland boats that became the Gummi Bears boats?
I fact does anyone remember the Gummi Bears at all?
I remember that and the Chip 'n' Dale Race Car ride!!!!! Oh, I was SO excited as a 7 year old kid to see that Rescue Rangers and Gummi Bears had rides at Disneyland.
--------------------------------------Double post added here.
I remember when there were themed areas with backdrops for pictures. *Beauty and the Beast, Disney Afternoon...*
I remember that! There was a slide based on...I think Gummi Bears. We have pictures of my brother as a little kid sliding down that thing over and over...
I met Darkwing Duck, Launchpad McQuack, and Monterey Jack by the Disney Afternoon photo area and had to pose with Belle and Beast in the Beauty and the Beast one.
Remember when there was a jail (I think it was in 'Duckburg'...close enough to it's a small world that you could here the clock ticking and tocking), before there was a Mickey's Toontown?
And yes, I remember small world being blue.
--------------------------------------Double post added here.
You know, I miss that. I miss walking out of a store or turning a corner and theres a character! It seemed like they were everywhere back then. I've looked at some of my old day sheets and none of them had that little section where you can see so and so at this time.
No orginized lines either like for the Little Mermaid.
Funny you should say that; I recently went back to Disneyland for a multiple day trip for the first time in 10 years (during which time I took many trips to WDW), and I was thinking "Wow! Look, so many characters are just...here! And not all of them have attendants!" There was more of a character 'schedule' than I ever remember, but it's still a lot more free and spontaneous feeling than at WDW.

Yeah, and now Disneyland a super fancy parking lot system. I remember when there was just the lot with the ticket booths right in front of your eyes. Pretty much within walking distance, too. I totally remember that Swiss Family Robinson treehouse...I have a picture of me on it when I was like, 1 or 2 years old. And I wore my Pochahontas t-shirt =)
Oh and I can't forget the Country Bear Jamboree...or the old Submarine Voyage...good times.
It's pretty amazing how much Disneyland has changed since then.

I also remember when there was no Bear Country (aka Critter Country). Well... there was bear country in Natures Wonderland over on the other side of Frontierland. It had much more realistic bears.

One of the things I remember doing every time I went to Disneyland was to sign the guest book that was at the Registry Office at the end of Main Street. I also fondly remember the Pack Mules. It was surely a different time back then. I wish they would have revived some of the old items from Disney history and placed them around the park for visitors to see. Like putting a People Mover car out for photo's or an old Hover Bumper car, and so on. Well there are always the photo's and memories.

-The original Pirates (by which I mean before they added food to the ladies who are being chased by pirates)
-The country bears (who I will forever miss)
-The old parking lot
-The old parking lot trams
-The old ticket booths (on the outside, I wasn't alive when they had the books)

Oh man, I just spent the longest time reading all of these posts. Awesome.
This is what I remember:
-Driving underneath a huge disneyland sign with multiple car lanes and have my dad always think about which lane to get into. Ha.
-Parking in pinocchio.
-When riding on the tram was like, a bad thing. Meaning you parked REALLY far. Never the case for us.
-When the emporium on main street had moving window displays of new movies...lion king was awesome.
-The AMAZING lion king parade.
-People mover after a long day of walking.
-Being scared to death of EVERY single character...except peter pan.
-Captain EO...haha, I was young but heck yes!
-When PotC had less rocks and more pirates.
-Before IASW changed.
-80's themes! I totally remember the blast from the past. They had 50's cars, people on roller skates with beehives! I also remember a beach theme (may have been the same thing). Goofy, mickey, minnie, donald all had a show where they sang beach boys songs. Wasnt there a circus one too. I have video of a huge net laid out above main street and people were doing acrobats or something.
-Main Street Electrical Parade...Havent seen it since its departure from DL...I'm pretty sure when I go with my family in June I'm gonna cry while watching it at DCA.
I havent been to disneyland with my parents and little sister since '99. I've gone on school trips and with my friends though. Its so different without my parents. We're a disney family. I'm a disney freak ("disney nazi" to my friends) and no one else really understands that. Haha...except the rest of the disney freak family. We appreciate everything abotu the park and ALWAYS reminisce about how it was before my little sister was born ('92).
I can't wait! This is the BEST thread!

The 1990's Tomorrowland, the best!
I remember the CBJ, when it was still there back in the mid 1990's.
Pirates of the Caribbean with Walt's Vision. Now why did they poilitically correct the ride!?
POTC is about pirates pillaging in the Caribbean. They rape women, kill soldiers, steal treasures, and do a lot of bad stuff. Walt wants to take a tour of the Pirates of the Caribbean like going back to time. First you enter the drop and you decaying old pirate's rooms and skeletons. Then you see live pirates, as you go further back to time.
If they change the classicness of the ride, it will ruin Walt's vision and the way he wanted it. But Noo, the stupid General public loves the movie more than the original ride, so they wanted changed. Removing the 'Back-In-Time theme, where you see Pirates doing in the Caribbean. Adding pointless movie characters into the ride to make it more sense with the classic original ride.
NOW THAT IS HYPOCRITIC!!!

Or someone will decide that somehow the snake is offensive and the ACLU will file a law suit and Disney will have to remove the snake...

PeoplemoverMatt
05-24-2006, 10:27 AM
^ Well I don't think anyone's imposing on the snake's civil rights. However, I am surprised the ACLU didn't ride to the aid of the old green snake. As Kermit said. 'It's not easy being green.'
... I remember a time when people thought Disneyland would be immune from all things PC. That a place as timeless as Disneyland would never even need to be evaluated by the PC thought/deed police. Oh well.
