I've heard that a Harry Potter-like ride is coming. Anyone heard of this too?

Shouldn't be possible with Potter being distributed by Warner Bros. They used to be aligned with Six Flags but I'm not sure what's up with that anymore. IMO keep Potter out of theme parks. I really don't want to see every theme park become like Universal Studios with everything based on a movie.

There was a rumor about a year ago that Disney contracted with Scholastic to get the rights to Harry Potter (not the movie, but the books). This was a wild rumor and most everyone who had any kind of close connections to Disney at all were able to quickly dismiss it.
Disney DID contract the movie rights to Clive Barker's "Abarat"... which centers around an 8 year old girl in Minnesotta who gets drawn into a fantasy realm. This might be what you heard about as well. There were again rumors that Disneyland would have an Abarat-land if the movie went well. I know the book was being adapted for a movie by John Harrison, but I haven't heard anything more about this since last fall other than the movie's fate lay in the popularity of "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" and "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe". The first movie kind of tanked, so it'll be interesting to see if the popularity of a movie with strong Christian undertones that has already been done several times, can bring about the creation of a decidedly non-Christian movie and even a land in a theme park.

Narnia won't ever be an attraction. It's really not something for a ride. They couldn't even make a cheesy dark ride out of it since it's live action.

I can't even see or imagine a Potter ride in my head. Exactly what would it center on? There's too much to cover.
Still, I think I would have settled if Disney picked up the rights and animated the films or at least created a series. *Drools.*
I think Harry Potter should have its own park!

Maybe but I wouldnt want anything to do with him INSIDE Disneyland. to me he isnt a Disney type and wouldnt fit in great. I could definitley see in at Magic Mountain though.

Maybe Harry Potter shouldn't be touched by theme parks. At all.
That would ruin it for hardcore fans like myself.

I DON'T think Harry Potter should be put in the parks EVER. But someone beffore mentioned it's too broad to base an attraction on. However, if they were making one, one of the 3D shows with lots of magic 3D gags and stuff could be intereting. VERY corny though. Stupid in my opinion. Again, don't do Harry please!!

Ya, I'm a pretty hardcore fan myself and I think that it should have just been left to the books and thats it. Or gotten something better for the movies (Bigger Budget). Definetly no theme park ride.

I don't think I could respect Disney if that happened. Even with the Narnia stuff, and I love the books.

Well, I think there was already a thread about this. I think it would be horrible to see it in Disneyland, but it would be kinda nice to see it in the UK pavillion at Epcot. And if it IS done, I think it should be centered around the magical world, or Hogwarts, but DEFINETLY NOT around Harry Potter!!!(the character)kinda like Star Tours. But I think if it's done well, I would love it.

Eh, let's not bring the movies into this.
Our imaginations supplied everything better than Hollywood anyway.

Lol...yea right. Magic Mountain depends on teenage/college kids that dont want any heart an an attraction (or any clenliness for that matter), and they will continue to supply this energetic and adrenaline seeking class with a biannual/annual roller coaster.
I should know...I go all the time...lol.

If Disney ever tryed to put HP in the parks, I see that many disgruntled Disney fans would object and cause a riot. I for one would be at the front. HP is great in books, OK in movies, but I never want to see it at a Disney theme park.

When does the book release? Tell me it's not Midnight Sunday!
I've never actually read the books. I've always bought the book on CD. Much more fun to listen to, and easier to transport on MP3 than a 500 page book! Plus I can listen while I'm in my commute.
I just recently listened to "Goblet" and "Order" again to gear up for it.

July 16th.
I'll be attending a midnight party on July 15th. So as you can see, it's a terribly eventful weekend when you're in many fandoms.
I just hope I don't run into any scary Harry/Hermione shippers. Eugh.

Hermione's not that bad. Movie!Hermione is a little faulty, but when it comes to Fanon!Hermione, now that's scary.
Personally, I'm a Ron/Hermione person but let's not get into ship wars here.

Kind of like Star Wars and Indiana Jones didn't have anything to do with Disney either. Yet it works.
I would be one of few people that think it would be great if there was a Harry Potter attraction of some sort at DL. But I think it's probably true that we won't see it happen because of the legal stuff and all.

True, but Disney imagineers and George Lucas wanted to make a fun, exciting, adventure ride in Disneyland. George made Star Tours and Indy. They really want to make it. I have a disney magazine and it takes about imagineering of the rides. George Lucas's first visit to Disneyland was the grand opening of the park, July 17, 1955. He met Walt and his brother, when he first entered the entrance of the park. The admission price is very cheap, $1.00 per person in 1955 of the grand opening.

Where have you been, lately it seems that all the new rides that come to Disneyland have been based by a major film (most, if not all, are based on films that have been released in the past 5 or 10 years), so unfortunatly Disneyland has already become like Universal where everything is based on a movie (and the rides that aren't based on movies are now being turned into their own movies- such as PotC and Haunted Mansion)

Disney doesn't want to be invloved with this type of stuff. I thoroughly enjoy the Harry Potter books, but I can tell you Disney doesn't want this image.
A. They'll have to hire more people to build an attraction like this (It would cripple the company's profits in the beginning).
B. Disney would lose more guests then it would gain.
C. Witchcraft does not sit well with many people, especially extreme conservative a bit too far to the right (what am I saying? I'm to the right. lol But not too far to the right...)

What about snow white?
I do believe there is a witch there!
and don't for get Ursula, the sea witch!
I think it would fit in fine. ;)
Merlin would enjoy the company of another wizard in the park!

As much as Disney likes to capitalize on movies by making attractions from them ***coughstupidcough***, I don't think they will go for this. Obviously Fantasyland is full because they are putting these newer Fantasyland style other rides in other lands, and they probably have no intention of removing any rides out of Fantasyland just to make room for Harry Potter. Also, the rides in Fantasyland always have lines for them. There really is nowhere else for Harry, darn. DCA is also out of the question, cause Harry is British not American from California.

not so... there is a classic films ride at mgm. disney parks are full of rides that have animatronics depicting live action characters.

Yeh but that classic films ride is really quite boring.
Hey, i'm sure it was state of the art back in the 30's.
And even dated when it actually opened.
If they made something like that in Disneyland nowadays with some
random Harry Potter stuff thrown in it would be as offensive as all the
Australian Theme Parks we have.
And believe me, they're very offensive.

Have you ever been to Universal Studios?! Seriously. It IS a movie studio. They have really nothing else to theme it after. So in other words. They have no choice. Disney also is the same way. Disney started of as a film studio. Hence the reason nearly every Disney attraction has been based off a movie or had a movie based on the attractions. Great collaberation. Theme Parks and Movies.

^^^I totally, totally, totally agree.
At the beginning, Disneyland was a place that brought movies and TV shows to life. Adventureland and Jungle Cruise was conceptualized from the show True-Life Adventures. Frontierland was an elaborate backdrop for Davy Crockett. Tomorrowland was based on the very public NASA space programs of the period (Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, etc.).
And don't get me started about Fantasyland.
~Doc~ (...Or New Orleans Square, which spawned off of Frontierland in a whim, "It's only appropriate that a Mississippi Sternwheeler and Frontierland were matched with New Orleans becuase New Orleans was one of the gateways to the West.")
