View Full Version : Haunted Mansion Enhancements

Just noticed a thread on the old forums which unfortunately closed in a very strange way. Gotta clear things up, if I may.
In addition to the new Leota effect and the new portrait hallway images, the Stretch Room DID in fact receive a little refurbishment as well. I'm surprised that more people haven't noticed.
As the room begins to stretch, spotlights slowly illuminate the portraits, making them the focus of the room (as if they weren't already...) This helps keep the room bright, as the lighting always remained the same in the years prior. And as you all know, when you keep the lighting the same, but make the room larger, it begins to get darker and darker.
Perhaps the best enhancement is that the lights all slowly fade back on at the same time after the blackout. For years, the lights would just pop back on. But the drastic light change is quite pretty to watch, as everything now happens in unison.
Don't feel bad if you didn't notice. But chances are, you'll notice it now. :)

^^ Are you certain that lighting came in with the enhancements? If memory serves, that sort of lighting came in with the first Haunted Mansion Holiday with those lights being required in its version of the stretching room.

I will have to pay attention when I go back to DLR. It sounds cool. By the way, it's nice to see you back on VF, MrSmee. ;)

I did notice the spots, it would be good when the lightning sounds to pop the ights off and on at random around the room then see master gracey. Need to re-wallpaper again!

I'm sure. While lighting changes were made for Holiday, the current stretch room lighting is brand new.

You can watch a video of the Haunted Mansion Holiday on this very site. I've never seen the attraction in person either, but it looks really fun on my computer.

With no offense intended to RU42 or any other person with a video of HMH, online viewings don't do it justice. Haunted Mansion Holiday is easily the greatest feat of Imagineering I've seen since Fantasmic.

^I agree! I have only seen bits and pieces of the movie, but I was so impressed at the HMH! I was blown away! I loved it-I could not beleive all the detail they put into it. It truly is like an entire new attraction. I would like to see it again this year.:p

I do agree with you sataneatscheezwhiz, but for those of us that aren't near Disneyland, it's the best we can get. By the way, I liked your old avatar better.

Tokyo Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare is a billion times better.
If you chance to see that in person you'll be blown away.
Sure, its in the Disneyworld Haunted Mansion building, but the interiors are awesome.
It's got Sally & The Evil Teddy playing carols on the piano, the horrible wreath has knocked over all the books in the library and theres Oogie Boogies
Shadow Dance!
If you're fans of the actual movie you'll all go "oooh" at the above paragraph.
If not...yeh...

I saw a video of TDL's and it didnt seem THAT much different. It was bigger but nothing extremely MAJOR except for the sallys at the beginning of the ride. They dont have an Oogie Boogie AA. Thats my favorate part of HMH.
