I went on Space for the very first time. It was also my very first roller coaster. It's open ONLY to cast members, so I took it for a spin. It must have been the caffine that made me go. lol. The second time it seemed more fun, though. SPOILER. NOTICE, I take NO responsibility whatsoever if this spoils anything for you. :P
SPOILER: [The soundtrack doesn't differ at night than at daytime. Just the speed. The inside looks like a starry night, and you can't see the steel tracking, THANK GOD. On the first lift it's pretty much the same as the old Space, from what I saw in the videos... It goes through a speed tunnel to the second lift. It looks like you're spiraling into a black hole, I got dizzy. @_@ It was really nice and smooth, too! I went on it about 3 times just tonight. LOL The track has changed, more left turns. I'm not sure if you notie any changes, because you all went on the old Space. There's like a Devolocitator device that goes off as you come into the final brakes. it's REALLY LOUD!!! Scared me half to death... hehe.. The music has changed, too. It synchronizes(sp) perfectly to the ride itself. And now it's my new favorite ride. ^^]

I'm not ashamed! And they're not the EXACT same cars. The track is just a little bit different, too. Please don't tell me that You heard the music, also, or that the track hasn't changed at all, unless you can give sound proof os it. Some other castmembers were all "OMG IT'S SLOWER!!!" .. So... Anyway there's no launch. lol. The trains are golden and blue-ish and they look like actuall rockets. They rumble, too. :O There's no more FX-1 either.

Just a thought here...a spoiler warning might be a good idea in case guests are reading this but don't want everything given away. I don't think too much was given away but like I said, just a thought. Anyways, looking forward to the return of Space Mtn. Going on WDW's Space Mtn. was a nice appetizer, time for the main course! :biggrin:

Hyperion, there 'will' be a soundtrack change at night. There just wasn't one for the CM previews. They will release "Rock It mountain" either when the ride first opens, or later in the year so they can advertise it better and pull in a few extra bucks.
Can I see the download site? I want the music too. :D
And no offence, but you haven't even seen the track, so how can you say what's what?

^ Um perhaps because we've known for years that the track layout will not change and we have it from Vekoma themselves that it will not. And, for the record, the audio track is part of the 6-disc Musical History of Disneyland.

Now thenm for those who actually are intrested in the new ride, here's a SPOILER, DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT IT SPOILED. lol
Getting back on topic, the track color isn't black like I thought it would be. Instead it's gun-metal gray. There's a warp tunnel similar to the one at WDW before the second lift.. You also nearly miss hitting a meteiorite (SP) before the third lift. The re-entry tunnel 'IS' longer. That's the ONLY change in the track. And as far as ROCK IT mountain goes, I wouldn't know. You're going to have to go there and ride it at night for confirmations. :P The space station looks a bit similar to what it was back in 1990. Except the whole thing gives an illusion that it's turning. It's kind of freaky. THere's also a computer monitored track system that shifts automatically when a disabled person train enters the station. For example, when train 46 leaves the station then comes back, it's automatically sitched to track #2 at a seprate loading dock, allowing normal operation to continue. It's quite fascinating to watch.

Painting "invisble" things a deep grey/charcoal color in retail/foodservice areas is a commonplace practice as flat black shows dust more than deep gray. Perhaps that is what the designers thought here?

You also nearly miss hitting a meteiorite (SP) before the third lift. Yeah, I heard about the Meteor, it sounded really cool in the descriptions. CM's from other sites have said that the meteor effect wasn't "turned on" while they rode. And they mentioned something about how the lights on the meteor were to bright and lit up the dome to much. That made me depressed, because I really wanted to see that effect. I'm glad it was up and working when you rode!

Someone mentioned that the speed changed at night, which I find interesting. In the old Space Mountain, just like all the other roller coasters at Disneyland, the speed was dictated by gravity, which cannot be changed during the night. As I'm sure everyone knows, the cars themselves have no motors or propulsion on them. They just get pulled up on the lifts, then let go to let gravity pull them along the track. The track itself has no accelerators or motors, just brakes at certain key "brake stops" to slow and stop the cars in emergency situations. When I used to work on Big Thunder I always thought it was funny how everyone swore up and down the trains went faster at night.
Now, having said all this, maybe the new version of Space Mountainhas added some propulsion devices I'm unaware of.

Actually many of the rollercoasters at Disneyland do run faster at night. That is as long they don't break down sometime during the day. This is because the grease used to lubricate the bearings on the wheels is thick and pasty in the mornings but as the day goes on the ride compenents begin to heat up from friction in turn heating the grease changing its viscousity to a much more fluid state. So when you hear all those people on BTMR at night say it's going faster they're right.

If you get there early, the wait ain't bad (note the "20 minute" wait time on the board) and this is after I dilly-dallied through Downtown Disney and around Tomorrowland Autopia. I probably got to the entrance at 8:45-ish. Some people were already riding a second time!
When you first enter the inside queue area, it's designed to feel more like a space station walkway (or what you might imagine a space station walkway to feel like). The area has been limited from the larger open space of the Fed-Ex promo days. The second corridors you wait in are unchanged from the old days, with streamlined paneling and such. The "Space Station" queue area is largely unchanged except for the space station has been painted from white ot that metallic blue that we see all over Tomorrowland (thank god it's not bronze!) and they've added some elements to the space station to make it look different. Also the screen at one end of the space station has a video loop that supposed to look like a portal into space. It can, at times, be disorienting and seem somewhat real from certain angles and if you stare at it long enough. Right now, it's just so distracting to try to look around at all the new stuff, it's not really working on me.
The cars are very nice, and the speakers (woofers and tweeters!) are molded into either side of the headrests.

They work very well, and the soundtrack was created to coincide with the ups and downs of the ride. I didn't get to hear it that much because of all the screams behind me and I was concentrating on holding onto my camera as I was taking video during the ride. Don't expect much from the video as it was very dark. Lot's of screaming in the dark... only once from me.
No asteroid or meteor coming at us, but there was a cool effect as you are climbing the lift hill (regular chain climb like the old version, not a jet lift off ala California Screamin). This ride seems very very fast... but it felt fast to me before.
No loop and thankfully, not a sign of "Stitch" anywhere (remember that old rumor?).
My knees were weak after riding it. The only words I could use to describe it via telephone to my wife was "Holy ____". It was good.
Look for my weekly photo update on Monday for lots of quality pictures.

Awesome! I cannot wait to go in July! Just watched the video on mouseinfo and didn't quite know what to think-but judging from what you said to your wife DaddyB-I should love it! Was a little disappointed that they did not do more with the queue since it was down for so long-but oh well-at least it is back, and I'm sure in person it will look fantastic! Looking forward to your update!:biggrin:

i went on it yesterday and OMG I AM IN LOVE WITH IT. i even got to be on it when they stopped all the cars and turned the lights on. everything's a metalish gray. a cm came and pushed us down the track. haha it was fun. did i mention that i'm in love with space mountain?

I am glad that most of the public responce from the Relaunch of space is a positive one. A mean grumpy guest told me that DIsney wasted thier money on Space, and that is was better the way it was. lol

I have returned and Space Mountain is pretty ding-danged awesome. A lot of the Space Mountain I remember with some good new stuff thrown in. I am proud to announce that SMTV is officialy DEAD! :biggrin: There are some TV screens in the queue but they are fairly well done safety videos that reminded me a lot of Spaceship Earth's safety videos. I liked the homages to the old Space Mtn - having the old queue audio play upstairs in the final outdoor part of the queue before you go in, and having one final piece of queue looking just like it did before the rebuilding. The new entrance is done very well I thought. No longer is it a hole in the wall w/ plastic marquee. Now there's a main entrance where the stand-by and FP queues merge and go inside together. I noticed that the words "SPACE MOUNTAIN" is a permanent electronic fixture above the entrance where the queue goes inside. I wonder, how does this jive with Rock It Mountain? THAT particular sign is not fiber-optic and cannot change. Hmmm...
Well, I'll have pictures up once I figure this VF gallery figured out & I'm sure daddyb will also have better pictures up and published soon enough. Those of you currently drooling...that's not good for the keyboard. :wink: If you have a chance to get out there for the soft opening, get there. The lines have been somewhere between 35-50mins without any fastpass or anything. Come 7/15 it will all be officialy open, FP will be running, and there's going to be lines like crazy. As well there should be because word is going to get out that this ride ROCKS :smile: .

^^ No one, not even the CMs, knows when exactly Space Mtn. will be open on the soft open days. From what I gathered, Space opens with park opening and closes with park closing. However it can and does go down, frequently. Yesterday I bummed around there for an hour, easy to do w/ a DDR machine right there :biggrin: , and caught it when it reopened after a down period. That was around 4-5pm and it didn't look like it went down again for the rest of the day. That was yesterday, could be anything when you're there. My advice is to be patient, keep your eyes & ears open, and keep in mind it opens for good on 7/15. :cool:

My post has spoilers in it, so if you don't want to know about the ride then please do not read. Also it's VERY LONG.
I have been on it three times now, and I am still not sure how I feel about the new version of Space Mt. As an Architect and a Designer I have my likes and dislike about it.
On the one hand, the ride itself is better than the original - I mean there's no arguing with that. The lift effect is incredible, and the re-entry tunnel is just awesome. After you reach the top of the main lift, you can see a silhouette of a meteor that has replaced the old orange geodesic sphere. I'm not sure why this effect isn't turned on, but it looks promising (I hope). There also appears to be several more effects along the outer sections of the track, somewhere halfway down the mountain. You can see something running on a track along your left hand side. But this could simply be part of the infrared tracking system, or something else entirley (an infrared camera???).
So from a ride standpoint, it's awesome. What I think I don't like as much is the new queue. There are parts that are awesome and work very well, like the new paint scheme ( and the new station ID of Station 77 - becasue the original opened in 1977). And the re-design of the space craft in the loading area is very nicely done as well (now bearing the name DL-05... for obvious reasons). The thing I really wish they had done is delivered on the rumor that the station would be redesigned to give the effect of actually orbiting some celestrial body. Now, they do have an improvement that tries to give this effect. They replaced the main screen at the front of the ship with a very nice rear-projeciton screen that shows us orbiting a dead moon, and simultaneously rotating counter-clockwise to create a sense of artificial gravity.
If they had simply continued this effect over the entire ceiling and replaced the current metal grates and blue incandescent lighting, it would easily have made the line that much more convincing. Look at a picture of the ceiling and you'll see what I mean. Each of those panels would probably require some huge rear projection screens, but look at the Lift hill... it's surrounded by them and those screens are even bigger. It's just a mystery why Disney didn't go with this idea, or maybe they didn't realize it (doubtful). More than likely it was due to budget issues, as my friends working at WDI have claimed to me on several occasions. Thankfully one of the three major management systems has been destroyed and it has freed up more creativity at WDI.
But if budgeting is truly the reason for falling short on effects and replacements, then how about this one. Remeber the exit ramp after you disembarked from the ride. You know, the one just like the exit ramp for the Haunted Mansion. Well, for some reason, it was decided that they no longer needed automated ramps in the future. No, instead they chose to deliver a piece of truly innovative and futuristic technology to the ride... STAIRS!!!! Yup... just plain old, run of the mill, conrete reinforced STAIRS!!! WHY!!!!! It cost them money to demolish the old ramp and more money to build the new stairs. It's VERY unlikely that it's due to cutting down on energy costs. As disney practically has it's own power plant. So what's up with this.
At first I thought it was probably to make more room for the return tunnel at the end of the ride. But after riding it three different times, I honestly feel that this is not the reason. And I'm an Architect so I'd like to think I have a better grasp than the average Joe of how much space stairs and moving ramps actually take. Just think of escalaters at a mall and you'll see that the motor is only under the first 5-7 feet of the base. So in short, I feel a little cheated out of two years of my life on waiting when it comes to small issues like this.
Still, after all that is said, it's Space Mountain people. C'mon! You're not gonna pass up the opportunity to ride on of the most succesful roller-coasters in history. I for one am just glad it's back, IN ANY SHAPE, new or old. Every time I've gone on it the line has been 70-90 minutes MINIMUM!!! And this is just from word of mouth of the people in the park. Imagine the insanity that will insue after the 15th... or even the 17th!! I for one will be there, facing the perilous lines and scorching heat with the best of them. Hopefully you'll all be there too.
So there it is... my two cents. I'm sure others will disagree with me, and others will side with me. In the end, I'm just glad theres a place for us to post these opinions. See you guys later, and of course, happy imagineering!

They got rid of that room unfortunately. There's alot of differnece of opinion on this particular room, some liked it alot and others hated it with a passion. None of it matters though, cause now its just one looooooooooong corridor to pass through.

Rock It Mt. is a different version of Space Mt, during the daytime it is regular Space Mt., when nighttime comes till closing it will transform its self, with the sign out front and new soundtrack and more effects, to Rock It Mountian, possible as soon as october, but might be when ToT gets rondom drop mode in May. Space will be opening on the 15th, Rock It will start up later in the year.

depends if their alowing soft openings that day because space mountain opens the 17th sry. Though most rides have soft openings days before it actually opens. So if i were you id try to make it on the 17th. Ill be there with my ignagural flight 1977 space mountain pin (i am a freak) as seen in my pic. Cant wait for space mountain!!!

Just got a word in from a friend saying that there were subtle differences in ride music and lighting between daytime and nighttime. This is NOT talking about RockIt Mountain or anything of that sort. What those differences were he didn't say but he said there were differences. Has anyone noticed something like this?

Hey Gang.
Just got back from the Fourth (It was INSANE!!!!!!). Rode Space Mountain a total of five times after arriving at the park by 9:00 pm. And there are several things that I noticed about the new ride that I had missed the first couple of times. First, I found a hidden mickey of sorts - well I guess it's more of an imagineering nod. As you walk down the NEW corridor section, you come to a point right before the queue changes its theme back to the ORIGINAL design for Space Mountain. If you look up, you will see a well-lit hatch leading to the "Command Module". Notice the name of the Captain for our Space Station? It's none other than Capt. J Hench... as in the Late Great Imagineer John Hench, the same imagineer who envisioned the ORIGINAL Space Mountain Design. Pretty neat thing to do for him, huh? I'm very surprised that I somehow picked up on it so quickly.
Second, I have confirmed the presence of a meteor or spinning asteroid in place of the old orange glowing, geodesic sphere that used to be there. The effect is partially working according to a CM I spoke with, and you CAN see the asteroid spinning in its place (think of a mechanism like the Astro Orbiter, only with rocks instead). For whatever reason, the effect has not been operating to full specs, so they don't have it lit up yet. My guess... the asteroid is supposed to move towards you AT THE SAME TIME IT'S SPINNING! That would be pretty cool, but no one will really know until it's actually working.
I really love the new Soundtrack for the ride now that I can make it out. The first few times I rode it, I was having dificulty hearing the new music. But tonight it was sounding really loud, and it was so awesome to hear. It adds so much suspense to the lift hill, as you're surrounded by those awesome effects for the accelerator. And the music as you're hurdling through the Mountain adds so much excitement and adventure to the ride. Trust me, if you haven't been on this one yet, you will fall in love after a few times riding it. It's so much faster, so much smoother of a ride, and it's just awesome to have it back at last! (But I still wish they had done a little more with the Queue. Oh Well. GO SPACE MT!!!)

Personally, I can't wait to ride thier Rock Mountain they have at night. And when the rockets run faster, they allow more rockets at a time, thus shortening the line somewhat. Pretty cool, huh?

Outdoor roller coasters do run faster at night and in the morning when the rails are cooler. As the day progresses, the rails heat up, expand, and thus have more friction on the wheels of the cars travelling down them.
I don't know if that still works on indoor roller coasters like Space Mountain. While the ambient temperatures might fluctuate, as almost all of us can attest to, SM is air conditioned, so the temperature fluctuation is not that great.
I do not know how they could make the ride faster at night. As a previous poster said, it's all by gravity.

There ARE fastpass kiosks located in the same place they were before. They're not working yet for obvious reasons. I just got home from work, so I'm heading back to the park tonight to check it out and see if the preview is still on for the week.
I'm trying for every night this week to see if I can possibly get so sick of Disney that I'll finally be cured of my obsession... I'm guessing that I won't. Happy Imagineering!

Space Mountain should have FP on the main network just like it used to. From what I can tell, the machines weren't ever touched during the refub, so they should work just like they did. My hope is for a single rider line, but that will most likely not happen :icon_cry: .

Well, I rode it today (July 5th) during a portion of the 'Soft Openings' that DL is running throughout the week.
Anyways, I think it was ...... okay. I mean, nothing really changed at all, and I don't understand why it took so long just to add in some of the FEW new effects and cars. The only thing that really changed is the que (walk in). The walls are all shiny/silver/white and the TV moniters with the 'Programs from the Future' playing on them. Now, there is only ONE moniter that has someone explaining the safey regulations. Then the loading room is basically the same, with a re-modelled ship. Actually, I liked the older one better, because you could see the astronauts in the cockpit. Now, there is no cockpit at all (visually). There is also some new animated 'traveling in space' video that plays on a plasma screen where the window showing the stars used to be.
The cars are different, yes. There are NO headrests, and use seem to be sitting up higher. Okay, now the actual ride -
You start out basically the ame as the old one, but I really like the newer hallway that your car goes through, especially with the 'rotating wall' effect (for those that have been on the MUMMY part of the tram tour at Universal Studios Hollywood, then you have an idea what the rotating effect is). Then there is the part where you go up to the 'light'. I know there is something new instead of that colored light, but the person in front of me was very tall and I couldn't see it. Okay, the track itself seems to be EXACTLY the same, except I don't remember all the right turns the ride has now. Really al the ride is (I just realized) is that you start at the top, and then work your way to the bottom of the room, making right turns. There was only one drop, and some bunny-hops here and there. There was no music during the actual roller coaster part of the ride, so I can't confirm anything.
Bascially, it souldn't have taken this long to "re-do" Space Mountain. Hec, if back in 1955 Walt could build the ENTIRE Disneyland in one year, couldn't Space Mountain have been 're-done' in a much shorter time?
All in all, yes, Space Mountain still rocks, but for some reason I miss the older version (????). Maybe as rumored, the ride changes a little at night or something. Even though I am not WILD about the new version, I still think that everyone who has been waiting wil have a good time!

Besides the meteor, does anybody know of any other effects that are not yet running? My thought is that the new Space Mountain is not fully running yet. Remember that it is just a preview, and the ride does not officially open until the 15th.

I've read some stuff about unlit archways towards the ending of the ride but aside from that & the meteor that's about it. I thought the ride was cool enough when I rode on Sat w/o these non-working effects. Should be interesting to see what the finished product looks like on 7/15. :smile:

Ok Gang... pretty exciting stuff today at Space Mt.
Ok, first of all, there are some new elements going up as of TODAY (7/7/05). It appears to be some superstructure to support a protective overhang in cases of inclimate weather. If you've been up there recently, you may have seen a series of anchor plates along the outside perimeter of the newly painted heli-pad. This is where the new overhang arms are being attached to. They look pretty cool. So that's the first thing.
The second thing is that it looks like they will be re-painting the upper floor of the Starcade. This could mean one of two things in my opinion. 1) They will be extending the queue for Space Mt. into this space... or 2) they will FINALLY be expanding the Starcade to encompass BOTH floors - meaning more games (and hopefully betterones too!)
As far as space goes, nothing really new to report about the inside of the ride. They broke down today at about 7:00 pm, RIGHT AS I WA ABOUT TO WALK INTO THE SHOW BUILDING. They evacuated everyone out of the line who was out of the show building. It remained closed for about an hour. But I tried again a few hours later, and it went just fine. I'm more than positive that there IS a meteor in place of the geodesic sphere at the summit. It is currently still spinning in place, and the mechanism appears to be functioning from a mechanical standpoint. But for some reason, they have not turned on any lighting effects to make it stand out. The CM's I have spoken with claim that those effects are still not operating up to specs, so they will remain off until they can get them working.
I just purchased the official Album of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary, but I have not listened to it yet. According to the track list there are in fact two different songs for Space Mt., one of which has in parenthesis "Daytime Track" next to it. I'll let you guys know if both songs are on the album. I plan on purchasing the insanely expensive set of 6 disks for the 50th in the next week or so. I'll probably start a separate topic for that though. Anyways, that's it for me. Happy Imagineering!

I've been reading allot of posts, and I've come across quite a few that made it very clear that people's expectations of SPACE MOUNTAIN were really high. And there's been some dissapointment expressed by some who have ridden it since the soft openings. Here's my take,
Space Mountain has deffinitely improved. I actually expected most of the SPACE MOUNTAIN changes to be cosmetic. New lighting, an updated que, and new smoother riding tracks. From what I've seen I'm impressed. I get the idea that WDI tried their best to keep the original feel of Space Mountain intact for those of us VINTAGE SPACE MOUNTAIN FANS. I believe they achieved what they were out to do....new effects not working or not.
What i've heard is that most of the "SUPER ADDITIONS" to the ride are to take place while experiencing "ROCKIT MOUNTAIN." I believe this version will be the new and improved SPACE MOUNTAIN'S "Ace in the hole." From what I've heard that attraction will remain in progress until Late Spring/Early Summer of next year. I truly believe we have yet to see the "BEST" the updated version has to offer. But for now, I'm pleased with having Space Mountain back in operation...with some slightly interesting enhancements.
Can't wait till ROCKIT rolls out.

I have not had the pleasure of riding Space myself, but I too was one of the people who was a bit disappointed in the what they did to the attraction based on the amount of time it was down (based on reviews, and photos I've seen).
Then I started thinking about it, and I heard someone say -Look at it like this-Space is similar to having to take a model ship out of a bottle, then having to put the same, newer ship back into the bottle. It's true. That alone had to be a lot of work, just to replace all of the track. Plus, with the building being totally enclosed that had to make things much more difficult. I am just happy that it is finally back, and I can put my two cents in when I ride in on July 16th:smile:

No sign in disneyland is permanent. the entrance sign certainly wouldn't be a hinderance to them if they really wanted to do this.
Edit: after further examination, I stand by my statement heh. Look how the sign is easily poppable, and is even a little out of alignment here. Yes I realize this is probably stretching it and is not one single shred of fact discovery. But my point is that a little sign over an entrance is certainly not an obstacle for Rockit Mountain.

On July 13, NASA returns to flight with the launch of the shuttle Discovery. Two days later, Space Mountain officially returns to flight. Both involve space (though one on a much deeper level) and both were down for a very long time (sadly). Strange, huh?

^ Not every coaster in the world needs to be a launched, looping rocket coaster that has 82 inversions & goes 350mph. People loved the original Space Mountain from 1977-2001 and they'll love this new re-launch. Why fix something that isn't broken? Besides with the added elements of the loop & the launch, more & more young kids will be intimidated away from the ride. This is something Disney was willing to work with w/ Screamin' & DCA, partly because it created a really cool display (loop around mickey logo's head). They would not do this is in the main Disneyland Park.

The reason they dug deeper was so that the people RE constructing space could add mpre of a foundation for deeper and better pylons. Pylons are a complex steel web of supports that looks somewhat like a spider web... Maybe it was to add the strobe lights and disco ball for RIM too...

I was watching ABC 7 NEWS and they had a cam on disneyland, and the news reporter said.. people are flocking to disneyland despite the hot weather...its disneylands 50th ann. and space mountain opened today...so they can enjoy what they rode before and now ride it again...

u ppl are lucky i went in June no rides were open like the nemo ride dont open till next year space mountain wasnt running i heard ppl say ther is a loop and thats impossible cus i heard they are keeping the same carts and those carts were like easy to fall out of so ther cant be a loop but we'll see when it re-launches

Ok guys here's the deal:
Space Mountain will officialy open this Friday July 15th, 2005. An unofficial or "soft" opening began a little more than a week ago. So the ride has basically been operating as if it was open, except the FastPass system will not work until 7/15 we're all assuming. Officially they are calling the rides people are getting with this "preview rides" because that's basically what they are. Remember all you who have ridden it, there are still a few effects that have not been turned on yet. Once 7/15 gets here, then everything becomes nice & official. If you've been lucky enough to ride it early, well, good for you.
Now prince_peter pan you can go tell everyone who told you that that you heard on Visions Fantastic, the greatest Disneyland website ever ;) , that there is no loop and the trains are not the same trains. They look very similar but they are newely manufactured trains with a state-of-the-art ride & sound system properly built in this time. And, for the record, the track layout itself is precisely the same as it once was. You can take that to the bank. :smile:

Space Mountain will have already had its grand opening ceremony two days earlier on the 15th, with American hero Neil Armstrong helping to rechristen the ride by making a cement footprint with an official NASA boot to be placed on display in the Space Mountain queue.
NO WAY!!! That is so awesome! Now I REALLY REALLY wish I could be there this weekend:frown: . But I'll be in Durango, Colorado fly fishing- the next best thing.

Been on it now 5 times, It is better than before! much smoother and way more dark. the new special effects give the ride a nice touch, but the new soundtrack is the highlight of the reopening. on 7/10/05 they started work on the covered awnings for the queue area upstairs. they had the covers on it last night (7/12/05). see you in line. going again tonight (#6) :icon_lol:

I havent been on the new version of this ride yet but i have been on the old version alot and i cant keep count but ea anyway i am going to Disneyland this monday on the 18 since i have to be at a wedding on the 17 so i might see some of you guys there if you stay and I'm sure that i wont be disappointed because even though Space Mountain never got a loop or a launch tube like Disneyland Paris it is still an imrovement from the original and i dont care as long as its back

Unfortunately, I have none. I had to be with my 2 little girls at Loma Linda Hospital for some tests until 10:15, and the opening ceremonies started at 10. I got there in time to pick up some media stuff and get transported over to DCA behind the scenes, though. That was pretty cool. Probably the highlight of the whole day, even.
Edit: Actually the highlight of my day was meeting the Holy Triumverate...

It just happened so long ago (it's midnight as I type this) that it's foggy, and it happened so fast. They were all just hanging out at different places inside Finding Nemo theater, and I just casually shook hands with each of them as I saw who they were. I practically stumbled INTO Jay Rasulo, as he held the door open for me to get into the Turtle Talk theater and I didn't put 2+2 together fast enough until I was practically past him. (I'd loved to have seen my face as I whipped around to say "hello" to him!).

Space Mountain opening day trip report 7/15/05 - Part 1 of 2 (WARNINGS: rather lengthy, spoilers, do not read while operating heavy machinery ):
Time: 8:05am - The Arrival
Got through the gates & headed straight for Space Mountain only to be confronted with a line of CMs who were all telling us Space Mountain will not open until after 11am and no FastPasses will be available until then either. I figured ok that was for the ceremony so I ask a CM 'So where is the best place to watch the ceremony?' CM replies, 'The ceremony will be on the 2nd level and only VIPs and media are allowed up there. You will not be able to see any of it.' My next thought is "WHAT??!!!?!?!?!!!" That was very dissapointing me to have them hide the ceremony with Neil Armstrong totally out of view of the public. In hindsight you just gotta chalk it up to Disney's tried & true practice of coveting the bigwigs and treating the paying guests as if they were the peasants in a real kingdom. It's not the first time it's happened, but it still urks me to end that that goes on.
Time: 8:30am - Attraction: Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
Shortly thereafter my friends came and we rode Buzz waiting all of about 7 minutes. That gave me a nice chance to take out my frustrations on the poor Z targets. Seemed to work, I got a score of 224,900 - first time I ever broke 200K w/o a ride stoppage. Yay for frustration energy.
Rating: 8/10
Time: 8:45am - Space Mountain Anticipation
After that the three of us staked out a spot at Space Mountain's entrance to ensure that if we couldn't see it then at least we could hear it. Shortly thereafter the crowd began to gather and it was downhill from there. We ended up being about 30 people back in the line and spent the next 2 hours standing, waiting, anticipating what has been an overture for the past 2 years. One highlight was checking out the uber-cool Space Mountain opening days commemorative pins from a lucky pin trader who had nabbed all of them earlier. While pin trading never has and never will be my bag, they still look very nice. Another was saying hi to Mr. Matt Ouimet who was flanked by 2 others, may have been bodyguards, may have been Jay & Greg, I'm not sure. All I did was say hey, hey said how are ya, I said he's doing a great job, he smiled & gave a thumbs up & kept walking. Nothing real special but for a time I was eye to eye with the man who IMO has been the most like Walt Disney since Walt Disney, at least that I've known.
Time: 10:00am - The Ceremony
All we heard was polite applause much like you'd hear at a PGA event. Then we heard some louder applause, I'm guessing for Neil's intro. Then a pause, then some even more robust cheering & I'm guessing for the boot imprint and ribbon cutting. But that was it - after all that all we get to hear and see was applause. I'll skip the editorial here & simply state that I wish I had a media pass too. =(
Time: 10:30am - The Time Has Come
Shortly after that on ABC 7 put up a camera on the 2nd level to shoot the no doubt massive crowd by then that had gathered at Space Mtn's entrance. We all waved, cheered and acted like a big crowd in huge anticipation of what was to come. I called home to turn on channel 7, later on I found out that all home saw was people riding it, oh well. I saw the famous Darkbeer from coaster sites & boards other than this one & snapped a few pics. He had nabbed a media pass...jerk. :-p Then right after I snapped a pic of the clock reading about 10:50am the CM loudly inquired, "ARE YOU ALL READY TO RIDE SPACE MOUNTAIN?!" We all cheer of course. Then very quiety she said "ok, come on" and motioned us forward. Now some of you out there at this point might expect a mad stampede with yelling, pushing, and even 1 or 2 people trampled. The valiant CMs very thankfully prevented that. There was an initial rush, but they first stopped us, and then lead a processional through the queue. Very calm, very orderly, very well done. Kudos to the CMs here for very good guest control job.
TimeL 10:50am - Attraction: Space Mountain 8-D
My group of 3 was not at the head of the line, but we could see the head of the line not too far ahead. I would guess we were about 50 people back from the front. So we calmly proceed through the queue with me taking pictures all over the place as if I should have had a media pass but didn't have one. Upon reaching the second level, started taking pictures like mad at the enormous crowd that had grown behind us. More about that later on. At long last we arrived at the entrance and stopped at the merge point. One more time the CM announced "Are you ready?!" Another crowd pop, and then we enter. Proceeding through the new queue I realized just how wonderfuly ventilated this ride now is. Gone are the days of a muggy, stinky queue! So then we enter the main loading area and I am there to witness the very first riders board. I turned my camera to its video setting and managed to get pretty decent videos of the people boarding and then the train's departure. This will gladly be donated as a VF exclusive if someone wants to help me with the VF gallery. For some reason or another I can't seem to be to make my own folder or anything! Anyway, I made it all the way to where the queue splits into the left & right boarding lines before stopping. I didn't keep a count but I think I managed to get on the 4th or 5th train to dispatch. Ironically when I boarded, the first train came in the station to unload ride behind us! The guy in the front had his camera so we were waving to him & cheering along. What a blast! Not the first but still awesome to have been there to see it none the less. As for the ride itself, the soft openings didnt do it justice. The very beginning was the same, although I noticed a substantial increase of the volume from 2 weeks ago which I was glad to notice. Then, I was surprised to see a swirling projection of a black hole was now displayed at the end of the main lift hil with the vertigo effect. Very nice touch. Then we're into the main building and it just looks great. The asteriod wasn't turned on, but, I did see it spinning so yay. We all loudly shouted along to the countdown as the 2 year anticipation reached its perigy and then we were off. I don't know if it was the sheer elation of it or what, but the ride seemed much much better than soft openings. I loved the ride, the music, the effects, everything all was so great. Words really can't describe how great it was. Once we got off we couldn't get over ourselves how great it was - and then I found a microphone stuck in my face! The reporter there asked my group 'So how was it?' And we totally sounded like teenage girls who just saw Johnny Depp. We just couldn't get over ourselves or the awesome ride. I know we sounded like idiots, but who cares, Space Mountain rocks! I noticed the microphone was from KNX 1070 news radio, so I guess we got on there, yay.
Rating: 10/10
Time: 11:35am - Triumphant Euphoria & The Aftermath
Still clamoring & loudly exhaling over the great ride, we took the pictures of the on-ride photos and headed for the exit. What a great high to be on. I tell ya folks, there are very few things in the world like a coaster's opening day. If you want to make your vacation a truely special event, then seek one of these out. Walking through the exit, first came the non-shock of being routed through the Star Trader, and then came the real shock over just how bad the crowd had grown behind us. When we were back outside I could see the upper level of the queue had been totally filled out and the posted wait time was 115mins. But that wasn't the half of it. The line reached beyond the first sign, and extended clear past Autopia, past Hatmosphere, all the way to the train station, made a U-turn and came all the way back, went around Autopiaturned & ended at Autopia Winners Circle! :eek: I can't even estimate how long a wait time that could be. I took my camera and took a video asking a CM at the rear how long she thought the wait was. She just said "Oh, about a couple hours." LOL! We walked back & noticed radio booths had been set up for live broadcast just like on 5/5, only these were around the Radio Disney area. KBig spotted us, stopped us, gave us a couple t-shirts and told us to stand-by so the guy there - name was 'Boomer' I think - could interview us on the air. We did a better job of describing our elation to the KBIG 104.3 listeners and did some free advertising for Disneyland, good times.
Time: 11:55am - Now What Do We Do?
They weren't seperating the line to get on the ride & the line for FastPass distribution. So if we wanted to get a FastPass we had to wait in the line that had shortened a bit but still was in the vicinty of Winner's Circle, we passed. With our mission accomplished we wondered what to do next and just went on and had our day from there.

Space Mountain opening day trip report 7/15/05 - Part 2 of 2
The Rest of the Day
My friends went back to DtD Disney to move their car, I played some DDR & we met back at Naples for some grub & to mourn the Dodgers. Naples' upstairs dining was empty & it being such a nice day I went & got a couple pics of Downtown Disney from the 2nd level. Again, if I ever get VF gallery to work right, I will post these for your viewing and dowloaing pleasures. Unfortunately we arrived back at Space Mountain around 2pm only to find all FP's were given out. 'Oh well, we have the rest our lives' we said. We had some more fun, did some more rides, pictorally documented the Subs ' construction wall (see Rumor Mill's Subs thread) and had a great rest of the day.
Crowds weren't anything a FastPass couldn't handle. Indy's stand-by line reached 75mins at one point, but that's what FastPass is there for kids! My group rode it 3 times all with FastPass throughout the day. Tired from the day, my friends left for their home about 6pm and I headed over to meet up with Fantasmic Freak even though my calves were killing me at this point.
I watched the 50th exhibit's movie for the first time & I thought it was very well done. I thought the whole Donald Duck thing was unnecessary as I think Disneyland's history is entertaining enough. But I have to remember I'm in a very small minority there & the crowd seemed to like those laughs Donald created so I didn't mind too much. Great video & not to be missed.
From there we had some DCA fun, then park-hopped back to Disneyland to see Remember from my usual rear-of-the-hub view spot I can always duck under the ropes to get. We were there about 20mins early so I went to check on Space Mountain. There wasn't anymore overflow but the posted wait time now said 160mins!! :eek: Whoa, there went any thoughts of a late night ride. (Mental note: get a freakin' FastPass!!! :tongue:) I traveled the GC highways & made it back in time for the show. Remember was great, Fantasmic! was great, Fantasmic Freak said goodnight, and a ride on Indy & Star Tours later it was midnight and my day/night was over.
It was a long day but some great times were had. Now I can tell my nephews, kids, grandkids whatever the tale of how I was there on 7/15/05 when Space Mountain officialy reopened :cool: .
Misc Notes
Time spent at DLR: 16 hours 20 minutes
Attractions ridden: 10-15, didn't really keep a count
Best ride: Space Mountain
Getting on TV/radio: awesome

Oh man Matt! That was awesome reading! Thanks for the details! I can't wait to get there next week and ride SM. Hopefully fastpass and the asteroid will be up by then. I'm crawling out of my skin just thinking about it and how great it's gonna be! Sounds like it's living up to the hype...once again.

Geeez I totally cant wait to go back to the DLR this august, when I went on july 1st it was great, but im sure they held back a couple things, like Matt said with the black hole thing and whatnot and I never did notice the meteor, but this time I will when I make my return to the magic kingdom this august. XD
me too! last time i went was back in april. i've been working many hours so i can take the whole fam. the very first thing we're gonna do is ride it!

whoa i just got back to vegas and i was at disneyland on the 18 unfortunatly i couldnt go on the 17 cause i had a wedding but the first ride we rode was space mountain and it was so freakin awsome the wait was only 60 minutes and while we were in line i went and got some fast passes for later the wait wasnt as bad as i thought but the entire park was crowded and i bought my picture so u can go look im in the front on the left on my mysace profile cause i dont know how to put pics on here and ill more disneyland pics up asap http://www.myspace.com/forbiddenmemories

I actually turned on my little camera right around the first turn of Space Mountain... the beginning room looks kind of neat. ;) After the lift it's like pure black until you get to the final re-entry. If anyone wanted to hear the soundtrack before the song from the CDs pick up you can hear that in the beginning pretty well too.

Is Space Mountain 2.0 a bit different? I haven't rode it for a really long time. I will go to Disneyland sometime around August. It sucks that summer is half-way over.

I dont know if this was said but... didn't Space Mountain go under refurb a while ago for the opening of the "New Tomorrowland" and get a major upgrade such as sound by Dick Dale and also get "new" special effects (for the day)... if this is correct..then isnt this Space Mountain 3.0?

The music was added with new Tomorrowland and maybe some effects were polished up but the ride itself was the same, as everyone could frequently tell when they got stuck without the music playing... If anything that was Space Mountain 1.5 or something. This time they rebuilt the entire track and changed the whole place so it's worthy of a 2.0.

the layout is the same. the entire ride was rebuilt. it'd be like tearing down your old rickety house and rebuilding it to look mostly just like the old one only it's built better with today's technology. it might look mostly the same but it's a new house.

okay so get this...i captured the ride on my camera's video option(as peoplemovermatt just quoted again heh), and the soundtrack actually came out decent. I was listening to it..and the strangest thing caught my attention. 1 minute 58 seconds into the ride itself, the equivalent part that's 48 seconds into the space mountain track on the 6 disc set, there's a 2 second difference in the music. On the 6disc music, we get a trumpet lead in to the next big Duuuuun. On the actual ride, there aren't trumpets, and there's some space whizzing sound effects, and it lasts 2 seconds longer. So at this point the 6disc set is now 2 seconds ahead of the ride's soundtrack and there was that small change in the music...
Now why would they do that? Is it to catch pirates for if the new ride music gets leaked on the internet they'll know which version was played? is it just the 6disc's music was how it was originally made but didn't match the ride so they added a short bit? Or maybe my car was just behind and it hadn't triggered the next sound file until I reached that next part of the track(after all this is right as that big drop happens)...now this would definitely make sense except where was the trumpet lead in? It was weird nonetheless and I'm surprised I caught it. Also the ending finale gets cut off and goes straight into the star tunnel at a certain point.
P.S.
Peoplemovermatt's requested that I post the audio from the small movie I took so people can have a feel of a soundtrack with the whole ride not just the song. a) I left a toned down wind from the ride during the song part. b) keep in mind my comments above if part of it sounds weird c) The presong turned out okay, except there were a couple of shouts from someone sitting to my left. ^ Space Mountain version 2 are what some people here are calling the new Space Mountain that just opened on 7/15. It's official name, however, is simply Space Mountain. So don't needlessly get that confused with anything else. :smile:
Thanks Almandot for posting the SM audio! Since we're on the subject of released audio discrepancies, it's not the first time the released audio isn't totally accurate. We've been over the audio for the PoD showstop, the released audio for Screamin' is missing a couple things, the audio for Soarin' simply has the orchestral score. This is a common thing apparently for Disney to leave out little bits & pieces for the released audios.

I went a week later thinking it would have a "short" wait, but i was wrong. we ended up standing in a 2 hour line. the rides we went on the whole day
in this order-
Space Mountain- 2 hour
Atuopia-10 min
Indy-55 min

Below is my review of SPACE MOUNTAIN!!! :biggrin: (yes I am that excited)
It is rather long and contains SPOILERS so those who don't want to know.
DO NOT READ (P.S this is my first official ride review I hope it explains the ride well enough )
Space Mountain entrance:
I arrived at the space mountian sign on July 21 at approx. 3:30. The wait time for the ride was around 100 minutes. Besides the wait time I also noticed the HUMUNGUS Space Mountain sign which beckoned any park goer to hop aboard this once in a life time experience.
Lower queue:
As I entered the lower line I noticed the neat blue paint treatment below my feet (Is it just paint or something more b/c it feels kinda cushioned). I like the chrome signes and chrome accents on the fastpass machines and the banner that says "See the Universe" or something close to it. After the sign you make a left turn onto the ramp.
Ramp queue:
The ramp is rather nice and not as winding as it appears from the ground. (the fastpass line is still parallel to the stand-by line at this point) This part of the queue was nice because you could here the Tommorowland BGM. as you ascend the ramp the two lines fork and you enter the upper queue.
Upper queue:
WOW! the view from that platform is nice! There is some themeing in the outdoor part of the main queue that helps set up for the adventure ahead. The shade sturctures are really nice and not only provide shade but add to the theming and makes the whole queue line experience seem more emersive. In the middel of the upper queue is a giant lauch pad. this was a nice touch. Another nice touch to the queue were the DRINKING FOUNTAINS!! Whoever Imaginnered that was a genius( Its all about guest comfort). As you continue to wind through the upper queue you finally get to the ACTUAL ENTRANCE to space mountain. Right before you enter it seems that instead of letiing everyone continue through at once they let only 20 people at a time come through (why is that?). After waiting a liitle you finally are allowed to enter the moutain where the real theming starts WOOT!
Indoor queue:
(review now shifts to first person i.e my experience)
As I entered the mountain I noticed the air condition and the AWSOME themeing. I like the way everything is chromed and colorful. The rendering of Space station 77 was a nice touch also. After windinf for a while I came to the part where the queue reverts back to the older themeing. Right before I entered the "old part" I looked up and noticed a hatch that had J. Hench (the original designer of Space Mountain) It then hit me the "old' tunnel ahead wasn't a cheap way of saving money, it was a tribute hall. I do not know if I am the only one who got this revelation but the tunnel felt almost magical knowing that small fact. After the tunnel I entered a small round room and made a left into the boarding station.
Boarding station:
Awsome themeing!! I like the way the fron of the room had a window that looked at mars. I felt like the station was actually spinning. The huge DL05 is very nice to it make you take in how huge the room actually is. After winding around the top of the station I went down a ramp and entered the loading dock. I was thrilled to hear the CM say row 1. I could have hugged him(thank you CM for making my experience even awsomer!!) after waitin a while my train approached I slid in andpulled the lap bar down. I saw the CM give the "thumbs up" and the greatest experience of my life thus far began!!
THE RIDE!!:smile:
The rride began with the train slowly creeping forward into the weighing area. My whole tain waved and cheered to the person in the booth. The lights on the door flashed to the right and we heared over the speakers "You are cleared for launch" ( some of the most touching words I have ever heared!) The train turned to the right and the music began with an orchestral crescendo. The first room you enter is HUGE it goes up at least 3 stories. It has metal in it and glows red.After some words from flight command counting down the room glows blue along with electrical sounds and you enter the blue tunnel. The tunnel has blue lights streaking towards you with a WHOOP sound getting higher in pitch as you travel further down the tunnel. After this tunnel you enter the main lift in total darkness. All of a sudden a beutiful galaxy appears at the end of the tunnel and stars surround you then flight command says something and a blue streak of lights race towards you and then with a loud thud sound each section of the tunnel locks with red bars and begins to rotate! this part of the ride is incredibly dizzying as you near he top of the lift the music becomes almost angelic with choir voices going AHH!! and what not as you crest the lift at this part of the music you see nothing but stars. There are stars on the wall, on the track. on the supports. They are EVERYWHERE!!! As you turn you can make out a giant meteor in the pitch blackness and see it rotating. After this uplifting part of the ride you ascend the final lift and see shuttles and space junk buzzing overhead as flight comm counts down "10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1 lift off!". When they reach on your rocket rumblesto life and the music starts to fade in then it comes full blast as you hit the first turn. You are traveling in complete darkness at this point not knowing which way you are going. The music is synced up perfectly with the ride and is rather uplifting wtih its complexity. The trills of the clarinets, the blasting of the trumptes, the strumming of the bass, and the pounding of the drum all blasting in your ear give you a feeling of pure adrenaline rush. The syching of the music is best displayed in the "bridge" of the music (the 46 to 52 second of it). As you are traveling around turns the music entersthis part of the scire and goes Doo de Doo. The train travels through a whoop-de-doo right at this point in perfect sync with the music. The whoop-de-doo even gives you a little airtime. After this section the music continues to builed on itself. As the high winds reach a high trill the music enters about a 3 second silence. Here is where the most awsome feture of the ride is. At that point in the music there is a HUGE drop. After the drop the music enters is climactic chourus. The ride really picks up speed here and the wind is ice cold (I was tearing up). The music constantley is building on itself as you go faster and faster untill you make a fast left turn and enter the re-entry tunnel . There are nothing bust rainbow stars moving past you and a loud whistling sound that ends in a loud BOOM! As the sound effects reach tis boom there is a bright flash and the stars begin moving backwards! after this awsome effect the music reaches its end and fligh command say "Welcome back Space travelers" and the ride is over. My train entered the station and we were cheering and clapping as loud as possible (hopefully showing the guest in front of us how fun it was. After my adrenaline high I exitied the train and headed up the exit ramp.
Exit Themeing:
I was surprised to see that the theming was kept up all the way through the gift shop (unlike florida's) The beutifully lit stairs and the murals in the gift shop all bring the ride experince together leaving guest and myself feeling satisfied.
Final thoughs:
this ride is definatley excelledin all catagories theming, originality, etc. The music was by far my favorite part. One thing I noticed was that this isn't just Space Mountain at Disneyland it is a homage to all the SM's around the world. Music and effects inspired by paris. The bluse light tunnel from Disneyworld. This mountain is truly something special and is worthy of praise!!
I recommend everyone to ride this version at some point in life. Nothing beats the immersion and solid story line of this attraction!!
Final rating: a 100000000000000 out of 10 :biggrin: !!

I have one question, I want settled- who did the new soundtrack? I did hear that Michael Giacchino ('The Incredibles') did a soundtrack for Space Mountain but I'm not quite sure if it was for the new one in Paris or the new one in Anaheim. Could somebody please settle this question for me, I would really like to know?

I still have some questions about the new Space Mountain. First, is there two new soundtracks, because I've heard two that claim to be the new Space Mountain soundtrack (one known as the daytime theme and one known as the night theme). Also, I would like to know who provided the soundtrack- I heard that Michael Giacchino, who is probably best known for his soundtracks for "The Incredibles" and the show "Alias" did something for the new Space Mountain, but I don't know if it was for the new one in Anaheim or the new one in Paris, also if he did do the soundtrack, did he do both the new themes (if there really is two themes for the new Anaheim Space Mountain)
I figured out why they didnt add loops. They ran out of SPACE!!!! get it? space!:confused:

Ok....So I was just talking to my cousins mom (she's not my aunt if your wondering) and she told me that her brother just came back from disneyland yesterday and he told her that Space Mountain has been closed since last Friday. I told her it's been open since July 15th and to my knowledge, is still running. Cause I, myself is leaving to Disneyland around 4:30a tomorrow morning (technically tonight or whatever you want to say) and I will cry if Space Mountain is closed. I've been looking foward to this day for a long time. Space Mountain is open right? I'm not crazy right? =P

Just thought I'd give a little update here...
Space Mountain's line, even on Wednesday 8/3, reached a top length of 180 minutes. Obtaining a FastPass around 3pm after the ride had been down for 3 hours earned a 9:30-10:30pm return date. Be sure to plan your future trips accordingly! :icon_shoc

this was filmed on the preview, (prior to 7/15/05)
it's very dark, (all the lighting effects were not up and running yet!)
shot with a digital camera, (not video) you pretty much only get audio after the 2nd lift.
but there is queue and loading area footage also on the clip.
it's not the best, but until RU42 can get 1 done, it'll have 2 do.... :wink:

You would have to turn the gain up and or open the iris which will also make it look more grainy. Dragging the shutter speed could also help but will cause trails. That is a pretty difficult ride to shoot now. Going automatic on your camera would not be wise, manual settings and being quick about changing your settings would be the way to go. Good luck.

I rode the original Space Mountain the first week it opened and just rode the new one this week. Yes, there aren't any major track differences (we'd heard they'd installed a loop, but they haven't). The differences are the music and the effects at the end. Both are tremendous. We ended up going on it three or four times during our stay.

I dont think there is such thing as rocket mountain...my friend thought there was such thing until we went on space mtn. again late at night on july 16...nothing different....same music...same track.....same effects....and whats with that asteroid in the center??you can hardly see it

rocket mountain is REAL! it will oepn in jan 2006 and it will be a night time effect at space mt

Well, no one really knows that Rock It Mountain will exist besides WDI right now. We've seen a sign (check earlier pages of this thread for pictures) that looks like it can also say "RockIt" as well as "Space" Mountain. There has also been a CD released which noted that the music you hear is "daytime track." So that's really all the concrete stuff we know. Van Halen, special effects etc have been rumored, but to me those are on the same level as that new loop for Space Mtn rumor was. I would encourage you raiderfan84 to read all the discussion that has already gone on on VF & other sites about the new Space Mountain. :smile:

we went on three times today... sort of...
we got on when we first got to the park, and it was amazing.
then we got a fast pass for an hour from then and went and did indy and matterhorn, came back and hopped on SM.
as we pulled into the unload we went right past the loading dock and back toward the lift tunnel... on our way to which they said.. WANNA GO AGAIN, like any objectors had a choice LOL. right back through and our whole car was already hyped and counting down with the track and it was an amazing time... love the new lift tunnel and the Stars...

Space Mountain is one of my favorite Attractions in Disneyland. I was actually able to purchase one of the cargo boxes from the old one on Disney Auctions. I have it hanging in my room from the ceiling with fishing line, so it kinda looks like it's floating (but not in this pic). That's the COA on the wall to the left of it.

I also got to ride it on the 12th of July with the new refurb. It was Freakin' awesome!! I wasn't even expecting it to be open, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time!

just got back from d-land and my gosh! i love space mountain! i missed it so much they did such an awesome job on it! it was so fun! the 130 minute wait was well worth it!

Last week we had to wait 20 minutes extra for space montain as they had a cleanup shutdown!

Okay, I kind of skimmed over peoples' posts (it's so hard to come in 18 pages later!), so hopefully I'm not repeating anything!
Spoiler Warning (?). A lot of people said the track is the same, but isn't it a completely different track? I think it was all right turns except for the very end. But don't quote me on that; I've only been on it once since its re-opening. For some reason though, I got really sick on the old Space Mountain but had a blast on the new Space Mountain. And I absolutely love the music for it! <3 Oh, just out of curiosity, what is the maximum speed on SM?

Very true, I will bet that some of the effects for the revenge of the mummy is really not that good. SM has better effects, the imoetop animatronic doesn't look good too.

The meteor's lights are turned off again...I'd like to know what's up with that. It was up for a couple of days apparently now it's down again. I liked it a lot. The moment we came out of the "locking coordinates" spin room and saw it lit up I went nuts cuz I finally got to see it =D. Now it goes unlit again :(. It didn't add light to the rest of the room at all, nothing from the rest of the ride was ruined. I think it was done very well. I hope they get it on and keep it on.

Do I have info for you! (unless you already knew this) I figured out that during Rockit Mountan, the meteor at the top of the second lift will be blacklit, making it look all tie-die rainbow funky!:tongue:
Did anyone notice the OTHER meteorites that were positioned around the show building!?:eek: If I am wrong, which I MIGHT be, during my 5th ride on SM, I paid attention to detail. Do you know WHERE the stars are projected from!? During the tight downward helix before the big drop, I saw the light fixture that projected the stars, but it was right in the middle of the helix and was shaped like a meteorite! The 6th time I went on it, I saw the other projectors, and they looked like meteorites too! Keep in mind they they were NOT lit up, but I saw sillouetes.
I hope I am right! Because if I am, that means RockIt Mountain will be about three things:
1. Rockets
2. Rock Music
3. Rocks
Maybe during RockIt Mountain, they will have a BUNCH of blacklit meteors and meteorites close to the track so it looks like you're about to hit them! If ANYONE ELSE reads this and rides SM after reading this, PLZ look for the silloueted meteors!

I DEFINITLY know there is a place to get the full soundtrack! This is because I have a live recording on my iPod of the entire thing!:tongue:

I rode Space Mountain and when I came the final brakes, the stars are colored like I came from hyperspace, and I saw the track as a shadow.

I just got back for Disneyland (Aug 20th - 23rd). Space Mountain is amazing. It is so much faster then before and really cold inside. We rode it 12 times, even though the average wait was 90 minutes. I recommend get a fast pass then ride everything else. Can't wait to go back.

I fully agree with PMM, the ride is the same.
and the added coldness is alot more fans/AC units pushing more cold air around.
the breeze make the ride feel faster.
but this is just to create an illusion of greater speed.

I love how they do that. I am glad they kept the ride the same outside of some new effects. Props to the Disney on a ride well made.

I just rode this ride for the first time in four years. Oh my goodness, this ride is eerily smoother than it was back then. I think it was because they replaced the track. It really made me think differently about Steel Roller Coasters. the Force that you go through those sharp helix turns. They actually really push un restrained objects towards the bottom of the turn. I know because I had a back pack under my legs, and all the sudden while going through the double helix my back pack ended up going from my legs to Legend S's legs, had I not grabbed my back in time, the back would of either certain fallen to its depth in the ride, or it would of have been saved by Legend S. That is all I wish to say. I will have a trip report later today of my trip with Legend S that occurred yesterday.

This may have been discussed already but I couldn't find it in this thread when I did a search. When I was at DL this weekend I rode SM 6 times. Each time I was in the loading room I was watching the rockets being loaded and there were an average of 2 - 3 seats empty on every launch. Why haven't they started a single rider line? If they co
