Videos that aren't back up...

I noticed the America Sings video is gone. I did catch it before but I'm just wondering when it will be implemented back into the new system so others can see this lost classic.

The site is undergoing a massive update. Videos will be up and down during the process. Be patient, all videos will eventually return!

Certain videos (including the one you're referring to) were taken offline because they were being hot-linked to. Once VF 2.0 opens we will be able to offer these materials without having to worry if people are hot-linking to it.

I strongly suggest checking out the Gallery for certain videos. (Seach under "Site Images" and then go through the other categories there if you're looking for something that's not offered on the site right now.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does "hot linking" mean?

It is where a person links from their page on the Internet directly to another persons images, videos (videos in this case), and/or audio. Since the images, videos, and audio files are stored on Visions Fantastic's hosting company's server (or on their own servers for all I know) the direct linking to those files by another web page causes bandwidth usage to rise for VF. The offending web page that linked to VF's files are not affected nor does it end up costing themselves any extra fees for being over their bandwidth quota for the month since what they are linking to is not on their server. This is why it is called 'hot linking' or 'direct linking'. They are stealing. It is called bandwidth theft.

A crime that should be punishable by death... :biggrin:

Yes, it is a flaw of the Internet. Webmasters have to go to great lengths to stop this as seen in the new version of this site, Visions Fantastic, having to rescript the entire site just to stop hot-linking and bandwidth theft from happening with their videos. There are other ways such as password protecting your file folders where images etc are stored but it seems there are always ways around that. I have a meta tag that stops that ridiculous Windows option (graphic) of saving printing etc. any graphic the mouse scrolls over, plus there are javascripts one can place in their html but if someone really wants the image they know what to do: something simple but I won't say it here. Overall, a pain to say the least. That is why I hate blogs and fan sites that allow unauthorized use of images. Go to any site on these free 'blog' or whatnot hosts and right click on any image found, click the properties, and you will see that 99% of the time that image some jack and jill public used is being hot-linked to. I hate those sites. They should all be shut down. :icon_twis

Umm... I looked in RU42's folder and I didn't see the full version of the video of The Final Performance... I just saw the Believe There's Magic in the Stars Highlights... and the multi-shot version... ;)

The "Final Performance" is actually the multi-shot. While there are some portions of that video that are from the actual "final performance", there is footage from earlier in that week. RU42 can probably explain this better than I can.
