Yeah the title sounds weird but here goes. Do you have any cool, crazy or really awesome stories about a ride breaking down WHILE you were on it?
I was on Splash Mountain once and the ride broke down right while I was under the vultures. Yes, I know. :( Yeah we sat there for about 15-20 min then they went into a period where they turned the lights on and turned off the sound but had the animatronics going. Then turned the lights off but turned off animatronics off with sound for another 20 mins. Then they finally turned the lights on, sound off, animatronics off and CMs came out from "Laughing Place" behind us and stood at each log to get people out of the boats. We then exited out of an emergency exit behind the show building and created an escort group by our CM and walked all the way around the show building to the entrance. We got to pass by the reserve or maitenance logs, two Tom Saywer's rafts, the big musical raft with the crown and a bunch of dumpsters. I still have my free ride pass for Splash Mountain to help remember that. It was really cool to go backstage!!!!

I was on Indy on my second and previous visit to DLR. The attraction broke down right before the boulder scene, so we got to walk past it and took pictures in the process.

I got stuck on Splash right in front of the steamboat, we waited for about 5 mins then CM's came and got us and brought us behind the scenes. I also was stuck on Rocket Rods (whats new) one time right before lift off, we were just passed the point where we couldnt just get up and walk off.
the only time when I was on a ride that broke down was on my last big visit. i was on BLAB and it just shut down for a few minutes for about 5 times. it wasn't bad cuz then we had a better chance of getting a better score. and i did stop at the HM once in front of madame leota, but only for a few minutes.

Iv'e broken down on Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin during the electrocution. The lights came on and we waited for 10 minutes until a CM came to get us out of our cabs. Sadly, I didn't have a camera with me. We walked past the electrocution until we got to the Gag Factory where the two Jack in the box clowns are. There were a lot of holes in the ground so you had to be careful. It a was really cool experience.

^^^ yeah the HM story happened to me too! it was weird, it looked like madame leota was talking to me! and when i waiting in line for an hour to go on the matterhorn, so i finally get up to the front of the line and the whole ride completely stops and we wait for like 5 min then the lady says on the intercom "we are experiencing some technical difficulties and we are not sure when the matterhorn will began again, so we ask you to come back a little later to see if the matterhorn is fixed" i got really mad because me and my family were waiting there for an hour!!!!!!!!
^ wow the same thing happened to me on grad nite. i waited about an hour for IJA and we were told to come back later...man there were som many angry teens....

I thought I have heard that the reason attractions like HM and BLAB stop just for a little bit is because they are loading disabled people on to the attraction. Is this true? Can anyone correct me if I am wrong? It makes sense because the ride is constantly loading/moving.

True and that is exactly the reason as well. I can't get an exact confirmation or anything but while waiting in line at HM at the loading dock I actually did see a person in a wheelchair getting loaded on. They came out from behind where the staring busts were and as soon as they approached the CM near the staircase I saw the operator stop the ride and deliver the spiel. The wheelchair person loaded on and then the ride began again. That's why whenever my friends on BLAB or HM get excited or confused when the ride stops for a few minutes I simply reply "wheelchair person". This happened on Buzz Lightyear while I was at Grad Night and I was able to turn my pod so I was able to hit a point blank target while my friend had to resort to shooting at farther targets. Ha Ha Ha!!!

I have stopped on Haunted Mansion, but I think it was more than just wheelchair loading, because the ride stoped six or seven times during our ride. I've also stopped on WDW's Big Thunder- right during the falling boulder scene! It was actually kinda freaky because the boulder was right above me and it kept coming down. It then went back up and came down again. It did this a few times while we were stopped and every time it "fell," we screamed at the top of our lungs just to be funny!

last chirstmas I got stuck on HMH right after the ballroom and just before the attic so we were in a lil hallway. I was so tempted to get up and walk over to the railiing to watch the ballroom dancers but I knew I would get in trouble so I peered around as best as I could at everything. It was cool but I would've liked to have gotten stuck somewhere else like in the graveyard or something. lol We were only stuck for about 5 minutes and they kept the music going and left the lights off. it was awesome lol

once i got stuck on indy right before the bridge. a cm had to get us down using a ladder and as we walked back, i got to check it out with the lights on. and it was slightly entertaining (excuse me for being a little... un serious?) watching her yell "STAY AWAY FROM THE TRACK!!!!!" every few moments.
another time, i was on hm holiday and we stopped right in front of jack and zero (where there's normally a scared man holding a lamp and his dog). and it was really funny when the announcement came on requesting that we stay in our seats, ride will be up soon, blah blah blah; jack kept talking and moving his arms without saying a word. after awhile it was kinda creepy tho. haha.

I was gonna mention that, but I do remember the "techinical difficulty" annnouncement being made...do they still play that for loading the diabled?

Me and some of my family got stuck in the stretching room of the HM in WDW once. We went down... the doors didn't open (it turned that this chamber *really* had no windows, and no doors!). We went back up. We went down again... and so it went.

I remember a long time ago, when I was a 10 year old. My mom and I went riding on Snow White's Scary Adventure and when we get to the part where the Queen look at the mirror and the witch comes out, the ride stopped. We didn't know what is going on. We hear the announcer says "Please remain seated." And just few minutes later, the lights just when on. The cast member comes in and lead us back where we started. So, I guess Snow White's Scary Adventure has a technical difficulties. And that is how I remember it.

On my trip to Disneyland Resort a couple of years ago, I was stuck on California Screamin', right before the final big drop. It stopped and we sat there for a good 20 minutes or so, with a wonderful view of the park.. the only downside was that I'm incredibly scared of heights.. a CM arrived and helped us down a couple flights of stairs, nothing too major... and gave us all free ride passes, that could be used anywhere in the park.
I also got stuck near the snake on Indy, which was more annoying then entertaining, but still an experience.
One of my favorites was being stopped on the backwards decline on HM, right below the raven. It was relaxing to just lay and listen to the sounds of the Mansion (my favorite attraction.)
I had a stop before the final rise to the drop on Splash Mountain, but it was just a sit and wait kind of thing, but it was really something to listen to the loop of the vultures, haha.
I guess my most memorable "break-down" story was being at the very last "Millionaire".. purely by chance.
The matterhorn stopped for me in a fairly dark area, nothing too exciting.

I've been on various rides that have stopped for one reason or another (Indy and Haunted Mansion in particular), but only once have I been escorted off the ride. My parents and I had waited almost an hour to ride on Big Thunder Mountain, and our train had just reached the first hill when it stopped dead. About five to ten minutes later, a CM came and led us back off the ride to the exit platform, where another CM was giving everyone coming off a free pass. We questioned the CM about why the ride had stopped. It turned out that a rather stupid teenager had thought it would be funny to stand up while on the ride. According to the CM, he was being escorted from the park by security, which I figure is just desserts for acting idiotically.
Not too exciting, I know, but it's good to know that Disney takes rider safety seriously.

Well, this isn't exactly a ride breaking down, but I remember riding Peter Pan's Flight a few years ago and in the first room with the children, Wendy had been kicked over. She was just in her chair, on the ground twitching. It was funny but sad at the same time. I got stuck right at the boulder in IJA once too.

At a family reunion at WDW, my whole family got stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride stopped right after the auction scene. Our boat kept going back and forth from the ship/fort battle, to the burning town, and back again. The whole time this was happening, the lights and audio kept going on and off repeatedly. after about thirty minutes, the ride started back up again and we were on are way.

On my last trip a couple of weeks ago, these loud teenagers in the back row of POTC kept standing up. Before the first drop, a CM came over the PA system and warned them to stay seated. Then before the 2nd drop a different CM came over the PA saying that if they could not remain seated, security would be waiting for them when they got off the ride, and they would be escorted out of the park. The kids laughed, and she said "this is not a laughing manner, do not stand up again" They pretty much shut up:icon_roll after that.,

On our last visit the first ride we went on was POTC. We were the last boat to load at the dock. The ride broke down we were stuck right across from the BB. We were there quite awhile. Someone at the BB was having a birthday party so we all sang happy birthday. The CM's had to load us out of the boats by having us all climb through the boats ahead, I think we climbed through about 5 boats before we could exit out. This woman in the boat ahead of us lost it. She started yelling and cursing at the CM's. Geeze it wasn't their fault. We all got free fastpasses for which ever ride we chose. All in all it wasn't that bad, certainly nothing to lose your head over as that woman did.

Not really a break down, but last year when i went to DLR for my brother's parade, Small World went insanely slow. I dont know exactly how long the ride is but i remember it being about 20 minutes that last time. Not that i complained. It was our last ride for the day and i got to savor it lol
^ hmm I don't think I can handle 20 minutes of small world. but it was nice for a last ride from my point of view because i'm always at that point where I just wanna stay but I gotta go

Once I was on Alice in Wonderland with my family and we stopped while going down that hill towards the giant Cheshire Cat head. We had to sit there watching it for a while until a CM came and got us and walked us through the Unbirthday scene, audio still going and lights on. Very cool experience.

Somehow I've never managed to get myself stuck on a ride where I'm evacced (kudos disney)... I did break down on space mountain and rocket rods and get to go on the rest with the lights on and then immediately after with them off again so that was pretty cool =D. I've told the rocket rods story too much though so here's a different sort of breakdown =D
In Starcade by the entrance corner there was always some special game. For a long time it was this fighter jet arcade game but it was a full motion simulator that you got strapped into and then it moved all around however you were flying(i.e. you could fly upside down the whole time if you wanted to). There were even monitors in front of the game as well as around that area of the arcade so other people could watch what was happening on your screen.
I usually played this once whenever I went. After your game is over you have to land the plane on a carrier(similar to the old top gun NES game). It showed you your trajectory and you followed instructions to move left/right up/down and position yourself for a perfect landing. If you tried to stray too much it forced you back into position.
Well I played along and aligned myself for a normal landing. But there was a brief period between when the maneuvering part ended and when the landing images started. So when that point hit I immediately nose dived myself and crashed into the ocean. All of the monitors start flashing YOU CRASHED! instead of how many points I got. And since it didn't finish the game properly, my harness was still locked and I was stuck there, rotated up so I was facing down a little, with a locked harness so they couldn't get me out. Took them a short while to get me out. Best $1.25 I spent ;).

Not really a breakdown story, but a few visits ago I went on PoTC and they were running way too many boats. We were almost constantly jammed up against the boat in front of us, and there were long stationary waits before the second drop and the ending lift where we just sat in one place for a good five minutes before moving. It wasn't even a crowded day. I always wondered what happened.

Boy do I have a few stories for you guys..
Although I've never had to be escorted off a ride, I've been stopped MANY times. Caution: I'm 15 years old, /very/ random, and even more random when paired with my Disneyland Partner...Laura.
1. Pirates of Caribbean: Just before the first drop, the boat stopped. So we sat there listening to the skull above talk to us for merely 10 minuets. A woman came over the intercom telling us to remain seated please and we'll try to get this fixed. Like I said, I'm random and when at Disneyland, I plan to have fun. So I say "How's everyones day going?" Because I am in the back row with Laura. :) All of us in the boat start chatting and soon, a BRIGHT light comes on besides the exit just to the left and back a bit. The woman came over the intercom once more and laughed a bit, "Alright folks (Ha! Folks! Gotta love Disney-People) We're going to have to wedge that boat on outta there. On the count of three, everyone shift to your left. One...two...three!" We all shift...nothing. She laughs again. "Alright, on the count of three, this time, shift to your right! One...two...three!" We shift...nothing. She laughs once more. "Alright guys, sit tight and we'll send Ryan out." Ryan. Awwww. Bless Ryan's heart. So, this rather scrawny guy comes through the exit door and to our boat. I really liked this guy, he made me laugh. "Nice job guys, break the ride" and he laughed. By this time, everyone was passing around family photos and chillin'. After about...25 minutes, Ryan pushed us free and we decline down the first drop. We're all cracking up too much to really even enjoy that fall too much. Ah...but then we near the second drop, and during those few seconds of just drifting, I say something like "No more getting stuck!" So again,we near this second drop. Oh boy. We get stuck...again. So yet again, Ryan comes out and put it hands on his hips and says "What have you all done to my boat?!" and laughs. So he again pushes us free. It was quite a trip.
2. Indy- I promise, this won't be as long. Haha. Well, actually it's very short. We got stuck just before the boulder came. But the funny thing was the 'driver' and everyone had turned very quiet, just kind of sitting there. So Laura and I kind of look at eachother and smile. Next thing we realized, we had the whole jeep singing the INDY theme song in a rouse of "DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUN! DUN DUN DUUUNNNNN!" But once that died, 10 mins passing, the jees get's quite. All this time, the backround sound is on, Indy's moving, but he doesn't talk. So I look up, wave and go "HI INDY!" Everyone looked up and at that PERFECT Second, Indy turned and looked down at the Jeep. Everyone laughed. Soon, we'd gone on our way.
3. Big Thunder- We got stuck at the lift by the boulder scene for about 5 mins. I'm kind of soft around this ride now after the accident, something about accidents really scare me, despite what I do or say, so this really had me scared. As we were lifting, the car moved backwards a bit and I gasped, then the breaks locked. I really was starting to freak out. So we waited, my hand on Laura's arm squeezing it harder then..anything. She hit my hand away and we started once more. By this time I've prayed to survive all through the rest of the ride and pretty much kiss the ground once off.
4. HM-Got stuck at the part where you're going backwards through the hallway with the doors and the coffin with the ghost trying to escape. It was a blast though because I was with 3 different friends, and not Laura. Melanie, Jason, and Lisa. And I was sitting with Melanie while Jason and Lisa were in the 'Doom Buggie' infront of us, well...at the time since we were going backwards. And I knew for a fact that Jason, being the big, tough guy he was, HATED the Haunted Mansion. So being me, I leaned up and knocked on their doom buggie. He freaks out and calls me on my cell phone and yells at me because I couldn't hear him with the buggie's dome over him. I'm laughing and pretty much run off the ride before he can grab me and make ME the 1,000th ghost in the HM.
Number...5? Yesh. 5. BLAB I've been stuck on...Im still a ****py shooter, and reguardless the 10 min stop, I still had an average score. I do better in the Shooting Exposition! I really do!
6. This isn't much a stop, but it's funny. On the Jungle Cruise, the ride was smooth and the CM lady was hysterical. Comming to the hippos, she grabbed her pistol and went to shoot it, but found she was out of blanks so she screamed at the tops of her lungs... "BANGBANG!!!" It was SOOOOO funny. Then some teenage punk dude stuck his hand in the water and laughed and she said "Hey...I wouldn't be doing that if I were you..." and he goes "Oh really? and why not..." I mean..he was a little...pft. I wanted to push him out of the boat. And she said, "there's parahnas in that water..." she said, never once even cracking a smile. The kid just rolled his eyes and did it a couple more times, then stopped. No one really said anything after that, but once we got to the paranahs, that kid jumped so high I was cracking up even after I got off the ride. Shows how ignorant people are....hello! Danger signs! DUH! haha.
7. Ummmmmmmmmmmm I can't really think of anything else. -shrugs- So...I'll be off to bed. Hope this post made someone smile -and hopefully not fall asleep-! NIGHTY NIGHT! Don't let the parahna's bite!

OK, so this didn't happen to me, but it happened to my great aunt and my cousin. (I have it on video) so they were on Peter Pan, and everything seemed OK when suddenly going over the part where Wendy (I think that's her name) was about to walk the plank. The boat stopped. Then the movement stopped. Then the audio stopped. then the lights turned on. my aunt then relized she had rare footage and started looking all around. It really is just a room with lights and show lights on the ceiling with a cement floor that is partially under the ground with scenery and stuff. My cousin started you know, freaking out, but then they started calling off numbers and cars started going and eventually they gave them free passes to somthing. But I can tell you this: the CM that was operating when he saw the camera coming out of the ride, he had a look on his face like "oh, snap! I hope she turned off that camera when the ride was broken!"

This one I wasnt on the ride but one day my family was one of the first ones inside the park and we immediatley went to Indy. We got to be the first ones in line for the day but when we got there we couldnt go in because the ride was having technical difficulties. the CM politely told us that it may be a while so we just sayd thats fine but we still waited. there was a Dad and his son behind us that started yelling at the CM's after the CM's politely told them they are welcome to wait or leave its there choice but the to fella's decided to stay and keep on yelling at the CM's. it got to a point when my family, the CM's and all the other families around us got very frustrated with the Dad that the CM gave him a ticket saying he could come back later and get on the ride without waiting. when the Dad recieved it he immediatley started thanking the CM like nothing ever happened and went on his way. 5 seconds later the ride started and we were aloud in.

My least favorite breakdown story was, of course, in It's A Small World for 20 minutes! Couldn't get the song out of my head for weeks. Though it occurred to me after the 15th minute that it would be a great torture technique.......

The first time i broke down was on indy when indy was brand new. During the ride i noticed a series of small breakdowns much like the programed break down in the rat scene. nearing the end of the ride where your getting shot at by "arrows" we stoped for a brief 5-10 seconds right in the middle of the action. then when we started back up and we made it to the boulder room where the scenery backed up a little like it always does then it just completly shut down. the lights turned on behind the boulder then we just sat there waiting for someone to say something but they never did. A cast member with a colapsaple ladder came and got us off the ride and told us to avoid the cars because they could possibly start back up again even though i knew this was false. It was great i loved breaking down we ended up getting 3 jump the line passes. Aperently there was a brown out for indy according to cast members
The second time it happened to me was more recently on splash mountain. this wasnt really a breakdown just the spacing of the boats at the end of the day. I actually think they forgot we were on it because it was like 12:20. we stopped in the worst possible place right at the top of the lift on the biggest hill for at least 20 seconds. then it just started back up and then we got off. the castmember at the end said oh there you are.

This one time i was on pirates and the ride broke down right after u see black beard entering the city where the mayor is geting dunked, and none of the boats were moving, so they powered the ride on and off, first they turned off the sound and i guess that didnt tweak any thing, so then they turned off the animation, and all the lights were on. They kept doing it like 10 times. We were in the for like 45 mins. It was cool because i got to see what it looked like in there with everything off. It was very cool. an experience ill never forget.

the fun-E thing and just plain fun about this particular breakdown is that when the ride ended they let us go again, (no problems) and then we got to go thru another time because the ride didn't stop, oh yah and we got to see the inside of the ride w/ the lights on. And there were very long Qeue times.

Before Space Mountain went down for a refurb, I didn't need the lights on to see what where I was going, my mom made me eat so many carrots in my life, my eyes can see perfectly in the dark.:icon_lol:
Oh yeah, I also 4 got to mention, when I was on California Screamin', our coaster stopped somewhere near the end of the ride. They said that california screamin' was having a slight delay. So we just sat there for a few minutes, if not seconds, while the other coasters were still going. The ride started moving again so we didnt crash.

Once on the Haunted Mansion Holiday, we stopped right by the endless hallway scene. After sitting there for a while, the lights went on and some Cast Members came out and went by us. A couple minutes later, they returned with a bunch of guests (uh-oh). We sat there for a bit, a Cast Member checked our restraints w/ a flashlight, went out of sight, and then the ride started again.
EDIT: Oh, yeah, a couple of times we've sat right by the boulder scene. Indy begins the first part of his speach, but then we just sit there, no boulder in sight. Indy just swings on his little rope. Once, my friend asked for his autograph when we were stuck; it was kinda funny.

Before SM went down for it's big remodel, me and my brother were on it and right at the bottom, just before the re-entry to the station and the spinning tunnel, it had broke down. They had turned on all the lights in the building, way to cool. I love it when rides break down and you get to see some of the workings and such of the ride. It makes the experience that much more for me.

Nor is it a ride at a Disney competitor's park. Disneyland usually pulls out all the stops to ensure riders' safety, which is one of the reasons this "Broken-Down" thread is so interesting.

So, my family was getting onto Peter Pan. My mom's partially wheelchair-bound, so we usually load from the exit dock, which has a slightly smaller wait time. So, mom gets on, I get on, my brother is halfway on when the boat moves forward. We get him into the boat and the operators have an OMG sort of expression on their faces. So the ride still runs, but they have to run it with the lights on to make sure everything's OK. That was one of the coolest views of a ride I've ever gotten.

Once when my two little bros and I went on Space Mountain (1.0), We waited in line FOREVER. When we finally got on the ride, it felt like it was going way faster than it should (I was riding in front!). Near the end of the ride we broke down, they turned the lights on and we stopped in front of what looked like a little shack. A few minutes later, six or so CMs came out and pushed our car down the track and we rolled into the station. The ride operator asked us if we wanted to ride again since the ride broke down, so of course we said yes. Well we went on the ride again, and when our train got to the station, it didn't stop! We kept rolling along and got to ride A THIRD TIME! Three rides on Space Mountain and we only waited in line once! That was the coolest, and most interesting DL experience I've ever had.
P.S. Same story Brer Fox told (he's my little bro) only better.

While I was at WDW a couple years ago (for a Disney Cruise) with my family and my uncle's family (We had 16 people total) My bros, cousins and I went on HM. We were at the part were you turn around backwards from the attic and enter the graveyard. We were only there a few mins, so they didn't turn the lights on. I've always wanted to see HM with its lights on. Oh well.

We got stuck on Space Mountain a few years ago, and let me tell ya, those brakes work good!!! We were going along with our arms up in the air and all the sudden....we stopped hard. We were ok and after a while they turned the lights on and we got to see the inside of the mountain. It was kinda weird to see a metal track inside a metal mountain. Then the CM said that we could get out and walk or they would release the cars starting at the bottem and we could wait our turn and just finish the ride and then go again without waiting, so we waited for her to release the car and finished the ride with the lights on. It's not as scary or spacey when you can see where you are going. By the time we went again the lights were back off.
Also, one time at DCA we had to evacuate Grizzly River Run. We were about to go down the final drop and the rafts get a little backed up to make sure there is enough space. Well one raft comes around the corner and there is a person standing on the outside of the raft on the black rubber part screaming that she wants to get off. The CM in the tower hit the emergency button that stops the whole ride and we waited for the water to stop running and finally got out. We got to see behind the scenes and that was pretty cool. There was an extra raft sitting back there and we wondered if they would miss it. ;) We decided they would and left it where it was.

Same thing happened to me on the 1st, but we were in the middle so we kept shooting at things, and since we had two friends in front of us they turned their omnimover around we started shooting at each other.

I was on Screamin' for the first time back in March 2001 and I was on the green train. The ride broke down and we stopped in that brake zone right before you go to through the bunny hills. The train stopped for about 5, 10 minutes(the music finished through) and then brakes released and we glided back to the station. When we arrived at the station, the cast member asked us to scream and if we screamed loud enough, he would let us go again, but we didn't and we couldn't go again...But now I'm depressed because that was back when the wave machine worked daily and the music was on all the time.

Man, i remember when i was on the old Space Mountain, broke down right in the middle of the ride, all lights went on, it totally looked awsome, like a factory of metal, but before the ride stopped, i noticed the cart ahead of us stopped, and we were right about to make a right turn and slam into the cart, i was like "HOLY C***," then are cart stopped too, then the lights when on. I'll never forget that moment  .

I thought I have heard that the reason attractions like HM and BLAB stop just for a little bit is because they are loading disabled people on to the attraction. Is this true? Can anyone correct me if I am wrong? It makes sense because the ride is constantly loading/moving.
Yes this is true. i have witnessed the same thing.

So does Indy, because the last time i went to Disneyland. Our jeep is stuck right in the boulder room, where Indy is hanging on a rope. I heard someone say, "it's broke down". Actually it did not, they must be loading a handicap person on to the jeep.

ive been on haunted mansion before when they were loading it...at first i thought it broke down...but then the little speaker behind my head(been on this ride a little too many times) said that the ghosts were playing tricks or something like that...and i remember my mommy telling me something about that before...it was fun because me and my friend were just sitting there talking...it was on the part where youre going up backwards...it was cool...

other rides
1. HM-every time
2. Winne the pooh-we got out at the very end, nothing to see
3. Iasw-got backed up inbetween ireland and china...for 20 mins!!!!!.....stupid song.....
4. went on pirates with a friend, sitting in the front, got stuck at the dog part then 5 min later the boat in front of us got up and left, with no CM,and there was no exit nearby!!!!! :icon_ques
oh yeah and when I went to WDW on BLSRS We didn't stop but my hat fell off at the part where they take your pic. We told the people at the end what happened,so they got a person to go onthe ride with tongs. He said if you tried to grab the hat and touched the ground, the ride would stop and an alarm would sound. sorry just thought i would throw that in.

Back in 1995 when Indian Jones Adventure first opened, the joke was that it was broken down more often that it was running. You knew that if you got in line, you were going to wait a long time to ride it--keep in mind there were NO fastpasses back then. So, when we went to Disneyland in April 1995 the first thing we did was get in line for Indy. The line moved slowly, but we finally got to the room where the mural of Mara was, and then the line just stopped. Well, the only problem was that I am VERY claustrophobic! After not moving for about 10 minutes, everybody just figured the ride broke down again, so everybody just sat down and waited. I started to panic a little. We waited for about 20 minutes, and then finally the line started moving again. We made it on the ride--my first time, by the way--in about 20 more minutes. The entire wait time for that ride was about an hour and a half. The weird thing is that later that night, during Fantasmic, we walked right on it, no breakdowns, no wait =)

this isnt really a broken down story but its close lol
everytime our family goes to disneyland we go on Indiana Jones, everytime we are in line my dad always says "Every 5 that leave this loading station one doesnt come back, im just glad it hasn't been us yet!" and he says the same thing about GRR (rafts) Haunted Mansion (doom buggies) and PoTC (boats)
it always freaks me out!

I too also have had the luck of never really experiencing a break down (except of course the HM)
Well except for one time, when Space Mountain stopped on me. All the lights came up, and while it was cool initially to see everything inside the doom... all the steel and white walls reminded me of Costco.
We finished the ride with the lights on... which creeped me out cause i never realized just how jagged it looked in there.
To this day I still remember it as the time i rode Costco Mt.

I went on POTC under a month ago when I noticed that the alligator's eyes and the fireflies in the bayou were not on! This ruined the experience of first timers!:icon_evil
When we got to the Auction, the auctioneer's hand was shaking like CRAZY!!! It was like he had SUPER-PARKINSON'S!
The next malfunctions came at the end. First of all, the pirate holding the other pirate up while he's shooting, his skin was peeling off! NASTY! Next, the pirate PUSHING the treasure up the hill, his butt was a SQUARE! NASTY! Last, the caves with the cool glowing eyes, were turned on, so we could see that they were just lights, and the caves weren't big! NAS-well, not really.
Anyway, it's an old ride, so UPDATE IT! Actually they will this...October, I think.

Ha. I forgot all about this thread. I liked it though. I have another story to share. When I was there in late July, I got stuck on Splash Mountain. I don't know if I was imagining it or not, but I swear when the lights came on, the animatronic figures were the ones that told us to remain seated and everything. I thought I had imagined it, but then I asked my brother (who was in a different log at a completely different part) if he noticed it too, and he said he did. Can anyone verify that I'm not crazy? Anyway: I ended up stopping right in front of the sad possum lady. We got out of our log, and I got to stand right by that possum lady. She was so short. It was too cool. I also got to see all the wires running up her dress and the wires making her kids move. Then we went out of the exit that is right at the bottom of the lift for the big hill. There was like a full river rushing back there. Ok. That is all I have to say. *goes to rest fingers*

I've never been on any rides when they broke down. The worst (or best) I've had is temporarily stopping for like 2 minutes on BLAB. I wish I could get stuck on a cool ride and have a CM walk us off. I'm also curious as to how the boulder scene in IJA works! Oh, and what do they do if you get stuck on Peter Pan on the scene where you're flying over the city or the scene with all the stars?

The boulder room is a few diffrent things. first off you never drive in reverse, its the walls around you they teliscope. Like most rides in Disneyland Indy uses forced perspective to make the boulder look closeer than it really is, I believe the ball has a rod in the center that that is on a track hence the spinning and the coming closer. The car has a big part to play, the motion and sound including the music by John Williams make this a one of the best rides in the park. :icon_redf(I hope this makes sense to you cause i think confused my self.)
just a disclaimer this info was obtained while surfing disney fansites so it could all be false but it makes sense to me so dont get mad at me when the ride breaks down at that point and I turn out to be wrong.

That was probably the loudspeaker or PA that said stay seated. You thought it was the Audio-Animatronic because there mouthes were moving, and the soundtrack was overplayed by the announcement. So you didn't imagine it, you didn't put one and one together.

1. I was there last May and I was riding BTM and it stopped in the avalanche scene. About two minutes later, a couple CMs unlocked our safety bars and we walked back to to loading area where we were given ride re-admission passes.2. Same visit, not really a breakdown but Splash Mountain just kept on stopping.

This one was actually my fault.
I was on SM prior to its closure a few years back and we were getting ready for launch in the que. When we were ready to go, the rocket jerked and I hit my head on the back of the seat knocking Dick Dale's little soundtrack out of whack. The entire ride was in like it was prior to adding the soundtrack, just the natural roars of SM and no rockin'. I was bummed because Mr. Dale really hyped the ride up more, for me at least. Don't get me wrong, it was still a great ride.
Well, maybe this was more of a malfunction than a total breakdown. BTW- I went home with a nice & fresh magical Disney knot in the back of my head.
Oh yeah, countless breakdowns on HM as I'm sure many of you have experienced!

I remember back in July, I ended up on two broken down attractions in the same day. The first one was Space Mountain. Our rocket broke down in the middle of the ride before one of the small drops. We were stranded there for a good 20 minutes before a couple cast members released our brake and pushed us back into the ride. When we were sitting there waiting, the lights came on and we were able to see a couple CM's going in and out of what appeared to be a utility room at the bottom of the dome. To pass the time inside we began to sing "It's A Small World" and other Disney tunes . The second ride was Alice In Wonderland. We broke down right before you through go down the outdoor ramps in the Queen of Hearts scene. In about 10 minutes a CM released our safety bars and took us with another group of riders into what he referred to as the "chop shop". It was a secret room where they service the caterpillars. He then took us through another secret door where we ended up on the top of the castle. While there I was able to see some of the firework effects for RDCT. After that he directed us down a small flight of stairs and through a tiny wooden door to the path between the Matterhorn and Alice. It was really cool though b/c the door from the outside doesn't look like a door. It looks just like stone in the castle. It was so weird! :icon_shoc

In 1973 I was overjoyed to get my Great Uncle to go with us to Disneyland. In some ways he was like a father figure to me. He was getting up there in years and had a history of heart trouble. I was very surprised when he decided he wanted to go with me on my favorite attraction, the Haunted Mansion. He laughed through most of it. Then, it broke down when we turned backward and reclined out of the attic on our way down to the graveyard. I kept telling him everything would be OK because I was nervous about his condition. The more I did this the harder he laughed. Eventually the ride started back up after leaving us pinned to the back of our doombuggy from sheer gravity. He loved it so much he wanted to go on it again. For all I know, he lives there now as happy haunt 1,000.

It was really cool to go backstage!!!!
that happened 2 me once i was goin up the lift hill and it was pitch then it broke down so we sat there listening to the sad music until a cm got us 30 min later :icon_shoc

Well I first got stuck on Jungle Cruise, and unless you have the right skipper guiding you it's not that much fun. Poor guy ran out of jokes ten minutes in, especially when you're stuck in an area with no animals. Just plants and water. Juuuuuuuust plants and water. I think we were there for thirty. "Our Indian Spirit Guides underneath our boat have gotten lost and are asking for directions...Do you guys want to see some exotic plants? There's one. There's another one...Do you guys wanna see something cool? LOOK A LIGHT! *points to blue light fixture*" and he kept radio-ing to home base until they could get a skipper to help us. Well, at least we got the front-of-the-line passes everyone covets. And now I can say I was in a broken-down ride!
And to the CM: Good job, man. Thirty minutes with me...wow.
The second time was on PotC. We were right before the first drop and we stood there and listened to the people scream in front of us. My little sister was burying her head already into my mom's side. Then we waited. And waited. The lights came on and a guy came from the side and pushed us. Now this was at 10:30 and the park was going to close. Well, the ride was extreeeemly slow for some reason. At the end some people were sticking their hands out and pushing the boat along (they got yelled at, but hello? A little help?) Well, we got out after thirty-something minutes. Disneyland was closed and Main Street was empty. It was really neat. Memorable is what a broken-down ride is.

Greetings,
Back in the late 60's, about a month after the "New" Tommorowland was unveiled, we had a most memorable day at the Park. The combination of extreme heat, heavy crowd & new equipment gremlins had everything in the Park going down. The only thing longer than the wait in line was the down time spent on the attraction. I still have the "guide book" from that day ( talk about a pack rat ), with notes as to what stopped on us. It looks like the Autopia, the Motor Boats, and of course the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse never had a problem.
cheers

This was a long time ago; my family and I decided to venture over to the UFO's (ride of yesteryear). While in motion something happened and all the UFO's just shut off. We had to exit and get off the platform that they glide around on. Well as soon as we got out and onto the platform, the air turned back on and all of the sudden you had me, my mom, dad, two brothers, and about half a dozen other guests floating about 6 feet off the ground for the next 15 minutes!

We were just there 3 weeks ago, and had a record (for us) 5 breakdowns!!!
The ones on HM, BLAB, and Roger Rabbitt were very short, only a couple of minutes, but POTC was 20 minutes stuck in the auction scene, and we were ready to give the pirates the redhead just so they would shut up about it!!! We also got stuck on Splash RIGHT before the big drop for about 15 minutes and we only had 2 announcements 2 stay seated during that time. It was a little disturbing to be stuck in that spot because we were angled up and I kept thinking that we were going to slide down the lift hill backwards.
The only time evacuated from a ride however was on Alice in Wonderland and it was very cool to see backstage area.

This past Thursday my friend and I got stuck on Space when it broke down. It was right at the end, and we were JUST about to turn the corner to re-enter the loading area when it stopped. We ended up sitting there for about 40 mins. until they pushed the rocket back into the loading area and we left. They did give us each a re-admission pass, which is cool.
I've had Splash break down right at the end of the ride too, in the area where the croc is biting the Fox's tail. It was past midnight and the park had already closed. We waited a while, don't remember how much, and eventually we had to get out of the logs and walk out.
I've also had Indy break down. I can't really remember in what part of the ride, maybe near the snake, not sure. Thankfully they got it running again and we got to finish the ride.

Well, I'll try to make this short. My friend and I met a lot of Matterhorn castmembers about two months ago and we are really good friends with them now. My friend and I really wanted to get a "tour" of the inside of the mountain and we kept on asking the castmembers, but they told us that they werent supposed to. But then, one castmember told us that the ride was "accidently" going to break down when we went on it. Sure enough, near the end of the ride, our bobsled suddenly stopps. We were escourted out of our bobsleds and into the mountain where we saw all of the supports for the ride. Since we knew a lot of the people on the Matterhorn, they asked us if we wanted to hang out backstagte with them.! So we just chilled for like 10 minutes until we had to leave. It was awesome!
Ah, I know that was long, but it was the best I could do.

Does anyone know what speil plays when Indy breaks down? I know in Haunted Mansion, they say "Playful ghouls have delayed our tour...wait a moment while I shoo them away..." or something like that. And in Grizzly River Run, it says something about a log jam up ahead in the river. So my question is what message do they play when Indy breaks down as to not ruin the atmosphere?

I remember most rides have a special speil they play when the ride breaks down corresponding to the theme of the ride. So for Indy, would it be something to do with Mara?

I was on Space Mountain in July of 2002 and it stopped right in the middle. We sat there for a couple of minutes then they turned on all the lights. They released the brakes for each rocket one at a time, bottom one first and then we just coasted into the loading area. It was cool to see it all lit up. I never realized how close to the floor we are on some of the turns.
When I was on Matterhorn with my kids in 98 the attraction stopped as we were going up the lift. After a few minute they turned the lights on and CM's came to help us out of the bobsleds. we walked down the steps and got to go through the mountain and came out the doors across from where you board. There were lots of computers and stuff.

My friends and I got stuck on winnie the pooh. We were all squished in the back, and when we entered the windy room, the vehicle stopped, and eventually the music stopped, too. Then, the lights came on and we could see all the fans that create the wind and all the props and stuff. I looked over in the rain room, and saw all the mechanisms under the Audio-Animatronics. Eventually someone came and got us, but I was sad that we couldn't walk through the ride!
Another time, in WDW, my family and I got stuck on Test Track with the car sideways in a turn. The car was on its victory lap, and we had just reached 60 mph, and then we blew a tire, and were stuck sideways. My friend had a camcorder, and he recorded backstage! :p

I was on jurrasic park and it broke down and we were literally 15 feet away from the T-rex and drop and the lady kept counting down from 15 seconds for like 6 or 7 times.

I got stuck on Space Mountain this past summer. it was a few days after it opened. we were close to the bottom, but for the entire ride, we heard announcements "please remain seated". I though that was pretty weird, seeing how they kept the music running, and everything seemed ok. but as we reched one of the final turns we came to a haulting stop, and we just sat there for a few minutes. the lights stayed off, and the music kept going. but after maybe 5 minutes, the music stopped and the lights turned on. im sure this has happened to many people on this site, but I was sitting with my mum and she was so paniced. she couldnt believe what was happening, and was actually scared. I had no clue why, and I thought it was pretty cool, so i took out the camera and took some pictures of the place with the lights on, it looked different then i thought it would. so the castmembers eventualy came, gave us a little push, and let gravity do the rest.

Well, we got stuck on Big Thungder Mt. a good 6 years or so back on the second lift I think. It kinda rolled up on the slope and stoped. Then the ride operator came and escorted us.
Now the funny part was that we started to sing Heigh-Ho when we started to walk. We were all in single file which seemed to be a very appropraite timing, lol. Good times.

It stopped right at the Dinner Party scene for only a couple minutes and then again when you're in the hallway with all the doors...yea we stopped right in front of that Grandfather clock..it was quite annoying lol. I also got stuck on HM in 2003 i think. It was in the Graveyard..My mom and i knew all the words to "Grim Grinning Ghosts" by the time we got off lol

I got stuck with my family on Splash Mountain. We were the second log from the top. We were kinda laughing at the people at the top then it starting agaain then we got to the very top and we sat their for almost 20 minutes. Then a castmember came to our log and we had to climb out and go into the back lot. After it we got a free fast pass for any ride.

I finally have a broken down story! Last Tuesday (05/09/06) I took my DIL to Disneyland. We went to DCA first to see Soarin' (she'd never been on it). We strapped in and prepared to fly. Music. Lift-off. Went through the entire ride with NO VIDEO. You could tell who had been on it before when after a while people started going "Ooooo" and "Ahhhh" to the black screen. Several of us clapped for Tink. When we were back on the ground nobody moved. The CMs started bringing in the next group and told us to move to the exits and we said, "No, there was no video." We sat there for a few minutes, then they led us out of the theater and into the exit area, where we waited for about ten minutes. Then they walked us to the other theater.
Sadly, there was a little boy on the ride who was terrified going in because he was afraid of the dark. Everybody assured him it would not be dark for very long and then he would love it. Can you imagine how frightening for this little guy in the pitch black with the seat moving all around? Not a happy kid. Daddy got him off and out in record time when it was all over.

I got stuck on the TOT at the very top of the first drop, where the ghosts finger you to come to them ( This is where you drop ). The ride stoped, and we waited for about 40 minutes, then a CM came in from the top of the car! Then he opened a box, got into an empty seet, and we sat there for about 17 more minutes, and the CM yelled " Hold on! " and we all fell, not expecting to drop.
Thats why on the TOT there is always an empty seet... I figured it out, when we got free passes, to ride the ride again.

Have you ever get stuck in the Indiana Jones Adventure? Also take pictures with the Cast Members with the animatronic Indy in the finale. When the AA is turned off with the backstage lights on. Has it ever happen to you people? A group photo with IJA cast members with AA Indy, and your family/friends.

I don't have a "breakdown story" but I do have a "not-stopping" one...
Years ago, my friend and I were riding POTC, and at the end of the ride, we noticed that the boat was coming into Lafitte's Landing faster than usual. We talked about how cool it would be if the boat didn't stop and we got to go on the ride twice without waiting in line again, and that's exactly what happened! The boat went right through the load/unload area, and into the ride again. How cool is that?

My understanding is, it would take to long to re-boot the computers for all of the AA's. The music can just be turned down. Does anyone know if this is correct?

The most interesting break-down experience of mine happened on Splash Mountain. My friend and I went on as single riders, so her log was far ahead of mine (she broke down on the lift for the final drop) and I got stuck near the singing opossum family for about 15 minutes. A CM eventually came by and walked us to a back stage area (which really wasn't interesting aside from the overpowering stench of rotting garbage) and gave me a pass for the ride. Since my friend was stuck farther back on the ride, it took longer for her to get out and we got a second pass while most people were only issued a group pass (heh, that's definitely another pro of going on Splash Mountain as a single rider)
I also had to walk through Winnie the Pooh, but I'm sure you could imagine how interesting THAT was (being stuck on Indiana Jones was more entertaining than walking through Pooh)

It seems like every time i go to DLR i get stuck on a ride.
i got stuck on buzz two times. im not sure if i could still hit the targets but it was fun.I also got stuck on pirates at the part when you see that restrant and the old man is playing that anoying song on the banjo. I was stuck like for ten minutes and i had to go to the rest room BAD.The scariest ride i got stuck on was indiana jones. it was freeky. my car got stuck right in front of the second bolder. I was stuck like for 20 min and the seat belts are locked. once a cast member came they unlocked out seat belts and had to walk off the ride. and once we exited all they did was give us a freeking fast pass.

Yeah, something was wrong with the belts engine and well, they wouldn't let us walk on the paths. They announced it through the loudspeakers. I had never heard pf it breaking down before that. It was quite a few years ago.

In 05 Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin broke down on myself and my friends.
We were the only ones in the specific room as there was a vacant cab between myself and my friends and a vacant cab behind me.
Well as we sat there for a few moments (the room where everything is spinning around you in huge circles, above your head, across the walls...) anyway the lights came on and a Cast member came to get us off.
The CM said there were some difficulties and needed to have us exit but we could ride again in a few minutes. We had to get to the Staples Center (like an hour away) so we declined. But I was so excited, it was my first break down and I took pictures of all the stuff, including with the CM near the front.
Good times... :icon_lol:

One time I got stuck on Winnie the Pooh. :icon_roll We were in the "one blustery day" part of the ride when suddenly, the vehicle just stops. It took the CM about 20 minutes to get us out since there were only about 3 vehicles in the entire ride.
Funny thing is....it really was a "blustery' day. There were showers every half hour and the winds were quite strong. It was one of my worst experiences at Disneyland. Not only did Space Mountain and Indy break down but Fantasmic and R...DCT was cancelled as well.

Hmm. I don't think that they have that power to shut down the rides just to be dumb because at least 2 people have to operate a ride. Besides Even If you did pretended to break it down. The People who fix it would say what's the problem?
Intresting Statement though!:p
