Just wondering what animated disney movie everyone here enjoys the most.
Sadly, A Goofy movie is my favorite....its not a classic, which upsets me. i think it is way underrated. I watch it once a month and i laugh every single time. This also got me thinking.....how come donald and mickey dont have up-to-date movies in theatres? whats with the classic characters getting the shaft with direct-to-video releases? Instead of the classics they have had failures in the box office for some years running. I say stick with the classic disney formula of characters already loved! THAt will save Walt Disney pictures.

Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, Toy Story, Toy Story II, A Bug's Life, Alice In Wonderland, Aladdin, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Sleeping Beauty. So many... I think Lady and the Tramp is my number one favorite, however.

I agree, A Goofy Movie was very under rated! My friend Anthony and I used to watch it ALL the time. We obsessed over the song that was at the concert. I haven't seen the movie in SO long though. My video got ruined! :icon_cry:

My all-time favorite Disney movie is The Lion King, hands down! I've seen that movie more than anyone I know. I could recite the entire movie. Sometimes I ditched school so I could sit at home and watch it. I was (and still am) insanely obsessed with the movie!

My other favorites include Lilo & Stitch, Hercules, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp (I even named my Cocker Spaniel Lady!), and of course since I like The Lion King, I found Lion King 1 1/2 to be twisted funny! :icon_lol:

yes, but it makes money for them...so in other words, they'll keep doing it foreva

also, some are actually good. i think that Disney (with the success of Bambi 2) has realized that they have the capability of making these STV movies pretty good, at least aesthetically. so I hope that they will take a bit more time in making these sequels.

Anyways my top 10 are:

-Aladdin
-The Little Mermaid
-The Aristocats
-Bambi
-Dumbo
-Beauty and the Beast
-The Lion King
-Lilo and Stitch
-Cinderella
-101 Dalmatians

Oooo, I love Alice. The colors are so wonderful and the music is great.

A note on the sequels. Walt didn't like the idea of sequels, from what I understand. I know they are going to do them, but my feeling is this, if it isn't good enough for the theater, then it should not be released. If the quality is there, i.e. Lion King 1 1/2 and Bambi II, then great. But I have a hard time with a long period of time in between the movie and sequel. The voices are different as well as the artistry.

Just my own thoughts...

Not so with Bambi II, my friend. Yes, the voices are different (there's nothing you can do about that), but the artists really strived to have the same look to the film as its predecessor. I mean, the artists digitally used the SAME backgrounds as the ones in Bambi, and I mean the EXACT SAME ONES. that's pretty cool! in fact, the scene in Bambi II where Flower is seen hibernatin' uses the same leaves and stuff in Flower's den as were used in Bambi when you see him at the exact same spot. Pretty cool!

Now, yes, the animation is much clearer and the snow effects and such are much better due to digital processes, but i think it enchances the film all the more. That film is one of the most beautiful of all, right up there with Aladdin and The Lion King. I mean that snow in the opening scene...tell me that it doesn't look almost 3D!!! Geez, I love that movie!!! lol

but i know what you mean with other sequels. Return of Jafar was not as aesthetically stunning as Aladdin, just cheap animation. But i think with the success of Bambi II, Disney is gonna strive to match the animation in the sequels as closely as possibly with their predecessors (except in the case of like Aristocats which used crap animation...a digitalized sequel will look much better). So fear not!

I do think the artwork on Bambi II was beautiful. They really seemed to study the original artwork. I also think Lion King 1 1/2 was so funny.

a few days ago i saw The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. although the artwork is not as crisp and clean and beautiful as The Lion King, i must say that it is very good. the best part about this sequel is that all the original voices return (except Zazu's, bummer) which as most of us know rarely happens in a direct to video sequel. also, the songs in this movie are soooo good. it has more songs than the orginal, and although they aren't as good, they still are very good for a sequel. anyways, i'm just saying that this movie is one of the best sequels ( i haven't seen The Lion King 1 1/2 yet), of course behind Bambi II. but still good. watch it!

diznyfreak

Yes, that is one of the reasons I love it so much. It was so beautifully drawn. It is the kind of movie that reminds me of the joys of hand-drawn animation that I personally feel no computer can match because each frame carries with it some of the personality of the animator. I really enjoy watching the "making of" featurettes, because often they show the individual cels being drawn or painted.

Jen-Ness
04-15-2006, 08:41 PM
I couldn't agree more. I am not fond of computer animation. I agree with the statement you made about the personality of the animator coming through in the drawing. I would much rather see Disney release one great hand drawn movie a year than flood the market with half hearted projects.

Sleeping Beauty's artwork is too hard and rigid to me. i mean, if you look at the characters and the sets, there are almost no round shapes. everything is tall and straight. it's too uninviting to me is all. i do admit though that Aurora is a fox. but the artwork compared to Cinderella (which takes place in the same time period) pales in comparison i think

--Willbot 5000I think the reason A Goofy Movie isn't a classic is because--though Goofy himself is one of the "Sensational Six" (Mickey & Minnie, Donald & Daisy, Pluto, and Goofy)--people only tend to associate his son Max with the Goof Troop (http://www.apparators.com/CartoonThemes/GoofTroop.wav) series from The Disney Afternoon (http://www.lionking.org/~scuttle/tda/da.wav) (and it was upon that premise that A Goofy Movie & An Extremely Goofy Movie were made) and as I understand it, seeing the ol' TDA characters nowadays is a rarity (especially now that their shows are gone [or are--for some--on DVD]).

Hm... favorite Diz movies? Uh, I like a lot of them, but here's how I can narrow it down: All Alan Menken animated films before 2000. I'm a huge fan of his work, and Disney has him to thank for the popularity of their Golden Era films, because without over-the-top music, the weak story-lines and in some cases uneven quality of art would show through.

The Little Mermaid: I'm a huge mermaid fan, I was raised on this film
Beauty and the Beast: Actually, when I was a kid I hated this film, as far as I remember, but then I was somehow compelled to watch it, and I loved it. Granted, parts are way too cheesy and one scene in this and the French black-white real-live one both bug the bejeezes outta me.
Aladdin: the Genie, Jasmine (finally, a princess with spunk and a brain!), and the music, the songs pretty much demand you to sing along with them.
Pocahontas: Yes, I know how this pretty much butchers the history behind it, but the score is undeniable. Especially the instrumental pieces.
Hunchback of Notre Dame: Huge Esmeralda fan ('What a woman!' lol, gotta love Phoebus's expression during that), the score (you're right, it's almost haunting, but the vocal songs are also stunning in their own right), and how it was not a normal Disney movie with a traditional romance. That and you have this religio-physcotic villain. And I don't care how symbolic his death was, the man should've faced the punishments he inflicted upon all those innocent people! The artwork was also amazing... makes me wanna go see it.
Hercules: Ah, my little nut-Meg (a New York Gal in Greek Myth, gotta love it), Hades!!! Oh, I loved Hades. You have a villain with a REAL sense of humor (actually he and Genie are the only ones I've seen through most Disney films to display the caliber and style of jokes as they do). And they make Zeus oblivious! The music, the whole church-like style was amazing (if not ironic), I actually have uploaded some of the songs to my Blackjack to use them as ringtones. ('Speak of the Devil'... heehee)

Oh, and while the Return of Jafar made me want to impale myself, the King of Thieves was decent. Definitely not the caliber of the original, but redeeming, none the less, with Robin Williams back and the songs 'Party Here in Agrabah', 'Out of Thin Air', and and 'Father and Son'. LKII: I liked the soundtrack, though the story was significantly lacking. Couldn't say much for any other sequels.

Where to begin? LOL! I have many favorites but I will cut it down to a few.

1. Aladdin - One of the greatest and funniest movies of all time.

2. Hercules - Very great movie overall. James Woods is fenomenal in this movie.

3. Lion King 1 1/2 - Another one of the funniest movies i've ever seen. Great back story on how Timon and Pumbaa met.

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas - All I have to really say about this movie is that it is AWESOME! (I know that this movie was owned by Touchstone for years, but isn't it now technically under Disney's name)?

My favorites are, Cinderella, sleeping beauty and the little mermaid. I have to agree with jen-ness about sleeping beauty's art work, it's amazing, and I think that the straight lines give some kind of royal elegance...of course that is just MHO.
But I still cry with Cinderella...you know that scene where the stepsisters reap her dress..I cry all the time with that scene!!
And the little mermaid is just soooo romantic and the artwork is soooo good too!!

Which, ironically, is the exact opposite of what the book was. I always found that funny. The book was so heavy and dark.
