View Full Version : Character height requirements

I know the heights used to range from 5'2 - 5'6, but the most recent auditions on the careers site look like the roles have gotten shorter for women...
Anyone know what the typical height range is for a face character / costumed character?
I'm 5'6 (female) and hoping to audition soon...:icon_ques

There's actually a wide range of heights for being friends with the characters. Generally they won't take anyone 5'4"-5'6" to hang out with the fur characters, though. But 5'6" is a good height to work with Pluto. ;)

5'6" is pretty tall for female face characters, and the maximum for some face character roles (while over the maximum for others). 5'6" might be too tall for most Costumed Characters. All costumed characters can be male or female.
For information about entertainment auditions, call the Disneyland Resort Jobline, or head to the Disneyland Resort Casting Center: 700 W Ball Rd.

Well, a face character like Alice is tiny, like 5' or so. Mickey and Minnie are females and are tiny and chip n' dale are tiny females. Your best bet would be the princesses. I notice they tend to be taller, just from what I observe. Hope that helps.

...Mickey and Minnie are females and are tiny and chip n' dale are tiny females...Not always, but remember, Mickey is a boy, and Minnie is his girlfriend.
Are character auditions only held once a year?
Cavemandon
06-23-2005, 08:50 AM
I do believe that they hold open auditions twice a year or as needed. I actually auditioned to be a character in 1983 when I was living in Orlando. A singing friend of my was one of the Dapper Dans of Disney World and he had suggested it. I passed and was offered a job, but I had decided to move back to California and join the U.S. Navy. Wow, what a difference THAT was...

That's the illussion, but a woman plays Mickey inside. But I'm sure there are tiny men that play Mickey. But, my friend and I, both females, were Mascots for our school and my friend played the Boy Bronce, Bernie, and I played the girl Bronco, Bernice.

Speaking of characters, the ma dhatter and the leash guy were talking some pretty funny stuff, but it was about their gf's. "Do you think this nose makes me look fat?" I want to be a wrangler for characters!

I hate being average...I'm about 5'7, so I'm not tall enough for goofy, not short enough for the face females...is there any part that I might be able to play? If not, then I might just have to make do with maybe a JC job...that sounds like fun too.
Mickey Man
07-08-2005, 01:22 AM
5'1 would be good for a lot of face characters and probably minnie and Mickey.
5'7 could probably get you charaters like pluto and other characters around that.
AlexLoup your with me. I'm 6'0 and still growin so my options are shrinkin and shrinkin.

there are some tall disney female villians you might be able to play... the reason why they like short girls is so that they don't tower over the children and "scare" them. but villians like maleficent and cruellea are pretty tall! if you don't mind being the bad guy!
i'm glad i'm just 5'4"... but no luck yet!

I' am 6'2 and when I get out of high school I want to go be Goofy at Disneyland. I think I have enough experiance with being the mascot for 4 years. They might have to make the shoes bigger though, what size does Goofy's shoes go up to?
disneysjasmine

haha, i dont think you need to actually fit those shoes... those are some pretty big shoes! i would probably lose my balance in them... :] but my goodness... there are some pretty tall people in this forum! :]

you could be a princess or one of the shorter atmosphere characters. people who are around 4'11" to 5' could play "child-like" characters like peter pan, wendy, alice... etc. princesses are a little bit taller and of course there are the tall villians and atmosphere characters like cruella, maleficent and goofy. :]

I wish I were shorter so I could be Wendy or Alice. It feels so wierd to be as tall as or taller than some of the characters. I would love to be a princess but I think I need to get a little ways through college first. Then we'll see. But if anyone ever finds out the official height requirements for different characters and could post them here that would be really great.

I don't know about Disneyland.. but at World the ranges are sorta as follows:
less 5' Duck height
5'-5'2 Mouse Height
5'2-5'4 Chipmunk height
5'6-5'8 (or so) Pluto height
5'4-5'7 Princess Height
5'9 - 6'0 (or so) Goofy Height
For the younger face characters You could be shorter but up to 5'3.. there was one that was 5'4 but she was perfect! Peter Pan was anywhere from 5'1" to 5'4".. they will make exceptions for face once in a while if you simply look like you walked off the page! Lemmie know if you have other questions!

im not an official CM but after hours of research, the height ranges are approximately as follows:
Face Characters:
4'10"-5'2": short characters such as Alice, Wendy, Tink in Parades, Peter Pan, Some Princesses like Snow White, Jasmine, and Pocahontas...
5'4"-5'7": Princesses such as Belle, Aurora, Cinderella, and Ariel, Most Princes, Most Parade Dancers...
6'-6'3": Sorry ur out of luck.
They make exceptions for and inch or two if you look and act absolutely perfect for something but usually this is pretty standard.
Rubber Heads: (full costume, covered face)
5'-5'2": Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale, Piglet...
5'4"-5'6": Pooh, Tigger...
6'-6'4": Goofy, Pluto, Captain Hook,...

^^Ohh, thank you for that information! Jasmine/Pocahontas are really in that height range? That seems really short! I've ALWAYS wanted to be a face character, but being that I'm Asian, I really only have one choice - Mulan. Even though I'm only like 5 feet tall, I think my height isn't too much of an issue (I've seen girls as Mulan who are only an inch or two taller than me!). I think that I'm too fat though, but my friends have told me I'm alright and that I should audition. The process seems too difficult though!

I know that the last time I went to Disneyland the person in the Queen of Hearts was really tall and was a male because I heard him clear his throat. Bigger costumes require males. Malificent in Fantasmic is a male becasue the costume weighs around 40 pounds. Or so I have heard

i have a question about the fairy god mother, do you have to be older for that part? i was also wondering if the person who plays her is skinny with padding or is it her natural body. i love the fairy god mother but there is more of me to love, so im not sure if i could be her if it was made for a skinnier girl with padding. Also what is the height requirement for her?

Yeah, I'm 6'3" and I fit into the Captain Hook costume just fine when I auditioned. They wouldn't have let me audition at all if I was too tall, so I know 6'0" is not the maximum.

Yup! Go to www.disneyauditions.com, and they'll post the audition dates there. (they're not very specific for WDW, because WDW does them once or twice a month at least - you can call Casting to get more details there)

Wait, wait. 5'6 limit on some face characters? I'm 5'11 (male) and am considering working at Disneyland as well. I would only really want a face character. Or is that height for female roles?

Disneyworld has an internship/college thing for college students in the summer or available in a similar way to the study abroad programs. people in the program take some business/management classes and work the parks in all departments, including entertainment. they even have places to stay for a small chunk of your paycheck. check it out at http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com/sap/its/mimes/zh_wdwcp/students/students.html
