Sunday, June 17th
Park opens at 8am

Be there or be square =D

There will likely be a meeting place assigned again at some point during the day and some people will probably meet up outside the gate again before the park opens. More details will hopefully flesh out in the next few weeks, just wanted to get a thread started over here.

28 DAYS!!!!! I will be there around 5:00 I think on the 17th. it really doesnt matter to me but I only have to walk 2 minutes from my hotel to the front gate so whenever you guys get there I will do the same and it can be as early as ya like.

I'll be around the gates at 6:00 AM, i hope. I might not be wearing anything VF related, probably just a Splash Mountain shirt, golden mouse ears, jeans, and a small Sony video camera around my neck. I probably won't be able to meet any of you guys though.

I will not be wearing any VF gear but I will only be there with my mom so I will probably be able to meet you guys but I dont know what our plans are so I will let you know at a later date.

I will definitely be there on the 17th. My family and I will be driving from Oregon on Saturday and I'm hoping to get into SoCal either late Saturday or VERY early on Sunday and they are just going to drop me off. I'll be able to come up with a more definite time as the date gets closer.

how did everybody meet on may 5th. did some of you meet at the turnstiles or did you guys meet later on in the day. I saw the picture of you all at tomorrowland. anyone can answer this but I know daddyb will know it, at what time did the lines get to more then say 30 people in each. after how long did people continuously pack into the esplanade.

I am for sure going to be there on the 17th. I will get there Saturady, hopefully early. I am staying at the Ramada Maingate on Harbor. I plan to be at the gates as early as possible, maybe 3 or 4 am. I will have my gold mouse ears on, with the name Crystal embroidered on them. I look forward to meeting you all:)

I saw the picture of you all at tomorrowland. anyone can answer this but I know daddyb will know it, at what time did the lines get to more then say 30 people in each. after how long did people continuously pack into the esplanade. There were two groups that met up outside the security gates, one on each side of the esplanade. We kept in contact via cell phones and finally got together at gate 13 (At least I THINK it was gate 13). We basically hung out together the rest of the day and at 2:00, we met a couple more at the Innoventions exit gate. Overall, we had a blast, enjoyed each others company, had a couple of meals together, and watched an awesome firework show.

Personally, I'm going to be there (I can feel myself getting ill as we speak). I most likely will not be staying real close like I did on May 5th. But I will be there early. I wish we could bring the May 5th thread over here so others could read up on just how much fun it was...:frown:

As for the lines, DaddyB started the Harbor Blvd side at 3:00 am and he had company at 3:15. I showed up at 5:30 with a line already over 100 people long. By the time the security gates were opened (7:00 am), the line was easily over 500. They had opened the DTD side security gates about 10 minutes before our side was opened. By 7:30, the line was halfway through the esplanade and by 8:00 it was past the California letters and starting to double back. (We were second in line at our gate) It wasn't until 8:30 or 9:00 that they let us in the gates.

I hope this helps...

I'm not going to be able to go on the 17th anymore. I already told you guys why, my mom canceled at the last minute. I was going to stay at the Del Sol Inn just across the street. We're are now going to go to DLR in November. I'm going back by my self in September. Well, have fun there at the 17th, guys!

Well that helped a lot cavemandon thanks. I will be very excited that day so I will want to get there early. unlike a lot of the people at this site I dont have the opportunity to go during the rest of the year so when summer roles around I gotta make it count.

Disney is calling people with reservations for lunch at the Blue Bayou on the 17th to tell them that they need to arrive at the park early as they expect the gates will be closed very early in the day, reminding them that reservations at the BB does not guarantee entry into the park if the Fire Marshall has ordered the gates closed (meeting capacity).

06-22-2005, 10:11 AM
Even though I was at the park on May 5th, does anyone know if they had to close the gates?

GreenLantern13
06-22-2005, 10:37 AM
I've heard no, not once. People went out to DCA and back just fine and many people left until a time closer to the fireworks.

Guessing July 17th crowds is still a gamble, even May 5 didn't hit capacity with no AP blockouts, but the oddsmakers are still placing maxxed out crowds as the heavy favorite.

Regardless, we're all probably better off planning for and anticipating a full house on 7/17.

Is Disney planning anything out of the ordinary for the exact 50th? Celebrities? Anything?

Oh, and about the meetings. I'll be there with my family, and if I'm feel'n fine I might say howdy to one-a ya'll in the park or outside the gates. I'll either b e wearing an Indy-esque hat or a straw hat.

As a part of the 50th merch event the guests were told to be there before 10 and the event credentials were not a guarantee of admission- so obviously they are expecting alot of people that day. Personally I'll be there around 6:30 ish with my video camera so I can document all the insanity for the CMs @ WDW. Oh and does anyone know if a maingate works the same @ DL as WDW? (Enter one park and receive a 1 day parkhopper for the rest of the day)

Again if I'm not working there I will definitly be there. Can't say what time but it will be early. I live about 45 min away depending on traffic on the 91 and 5. I will most likely be wearing an old-school HM shirt with Ezra (the tall one) in between Mickey and Goofy in a Doom Buggy or my favorite band shirt - a Queen shirt.

As we get closer, we'll all have to trade cell phone numbers again. It was really invaluable to getting us all together, if even for a few minutes so that we could meet.

I don't know how early I will be getting there. A lot of people are saying on other discussion boards that they'll actually arrive the night before. There was a lot of "big talk" on the discussion boards before May 5th, too and it didn't happen, but part of that was because people were told one thing by security and didn't press the point like I did when I arrived at 2:45am.

When I first got there, I was told that I'd have to wait out on Harbor Boulevard (they didn't want lines forming on Disney property!). I was very polite but firmly asked to speak to a supervisor of security. He admitted that they really hadn't planned on long lines and was suprised anyone would want to wait as long as I did (he didn't know about the other groups who had showed up HOURS before me and turned away!). So he said I could start the line at the security check point.

I'd be interested to be there at midnight and 3am to see if there were actually any lines yet. It would sort of be a guage as to how rabid fans really are about the 17th. People talk big, but when the rubber hits the road, getting there at 11pm the night before is an awful big commitment.
-----------------------
as for what's going on, I don't think Disney has lined it up yet. Al Lutz has hit it on the head when he said that Marketing viewed May 5th as the 50th, and were quite surprised when they were told that people might actually expect something to happen on the actual birthday. I've spoken with a marketing guy just a week ago, and he couldn't be specific about what was going to happen other than they were going to keep it to a minimum and weren't inviting as much press to the ceremony because they expect the crowds to be huge. (I mentioned this in my rant of my last update). I think they're not inviting the press because whatever they put on is going to be slapped together and show it. For the May 5th kickoff they had LeAnn Rimes, Christina Aguilara, A LIVE ORCHESTRA, Julie Andrews, Art Linkletter, Michael Eisner, Matt Ouimet, and Live hookups at each of the parks around the globe, oh and daytime fireworks and just about every costumed character ever sewn together by Disney Costuming department.

I think we'll be lucky to get Julie Andrews, Art Linkletter, Matt Ouimet, and the Fab 5 on the 17th.

I've attended the park's birthday celebrations the last few years (since I moved to Southern Ca) and I can't say that any of them were any big deal anyway. A speech, some confetti, and mostly a whole lot of waiting around (on a side note, for the 48th with Cynthia Harrisssss it was hilarious when the vocal group "Groove 66" vocalized the song from "Tarzan" called "Trashin' the Camp" when Cynthia Harrisssss was introduced). Last year was even worse. By their actions, I can't say that Matt Ouimet or Greg Emmer give a care about the public actually seeing any ceremonies that get put on, where Cynthia Harrissssss at least always made sure the public was front and center and actually stuck around afterward to meet and greet park guests (and give them hugs). So it'll be interesting to see what happens on the 50th, and how far away they stick the crowd from any ceremony that goes on.

I just don't know how much hopes or interest I'd put in the whole 'ceremony' thing other than from a historical standpoint. We should definitly focus on this being a great opportunity to meet up and ride rides together, and get to know each other in line and at meals. Getting from place to place inside the park is going to be a real challenge!
ok, I've gone on long enuf.

So getting there very early in the morning might be the best thing to do then. What time would you suggest as a good arrival time?

CA Screamin Dude
06-30-2005, 02:22 PM
Just a note: The Pumbaa lot wil be the only lot open earlier in the morning. There will also be no "camping out" the night before. This comes from a July 17 FAQ given to Cast Members to pass on to guests.

GreenLantern13
06-30-2005, 02:57 PM
I don't quite get the danger in letting people who reaaaly need to get there at closing time the night before sitting outside the security gates. *shrug*

I wouldn't think of it personally unless there was something special for it. Wouldn't want to ruin the whole day by being that exhausted. I was tired enough on the 5th from not sleeping much. Getting no sleep at all just wouldn't be worth it to me.

CA Screamin Dude

We're still at an Elevated Threat Advisory level. It's basic safety, especially since Disneyland had been named as a terrorist target.

Safety is the Disneyland Resort's number one priority, and always will be. It comes before anything else, including Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency.

Well, I still plan on getting there pretty early-around 3 or 4 a.m. We are getting there on July 16 and plan to spend some time in the parks(hopefully get a space mountain ride in!) but we plan to try to get to bed early, if we are going to get up that early. I'm bummed that they are not going to do a whole lot for the 17th, but it will be worth it just to say "I was there!" I look forward to meeting a lot of you. My friend Gina will be with me, she recently got an AP too! We are already planning on not doing a whole lot that day, just snackin' and people watchin'-maybe get a few rides in. Just depends on what the crowds look like!

To go or not to go! That is my question!

What time should i get there and whats the phone # list? Also time to meet up and things we want to do, also what time does the pumba lot open at? Might as well copy down the faq sheet on here CA_Dude. I know you will get ears and a cupcake voucher for cupcakes at the nearest resteraunt when you eat, redeem for a cupcake.

I hope there isnt a motorhome stuck in the turn lanes into parking structure again! backed me up to the freeway! Still have nightmears!

Oh and i will hopefully wear if cavemandon comes by, my visionsfantastic polo or a brightly colored shirt and jeans.

PM me if you want to start a cell list again, screen name, real name area code and number and what time you expect to be there at.

Good news arrived today, my aunt picked up my ticket for the 17th so everything is a "go". Have we come up with an "official" time that people want to meet to line up?? Or is it simply going to be "whenever you can get there is good"? According to my current plans, I can be there any time after about 10 pm on Saturday.

I am going to be there by 5 I think. I need to pay for the upgrade to my annual pass so I can get in. Can't wait for this.DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY OF TO UPGRADE YOUR PASSES! If you cannot get to the park you will want to do this by phone or at a Disney Store (if that's possible). Disney is saying that they may not be allowing upgrades that day. They may only be selling single day tickets and other "limited" tickets (up to 5 day passes). Even if they do for a short while, do you realize how many HUNDREDS of people will be trying it?

Do whatever you can to get your pass upgraded before the morning of the 17th if you really want to get in.

GreenLantern13
07-08-2005, 04:21 PM
Awesome awesome awesome.
I didn't buy plane tickets a few weeks ago because I didn't know for sure if I was gonna go. Obviously price went up. I held out until almost the last day because I know how Southwest works with its random but frequent internet sales. Sure enough today the sale went up again and I booked them. Woo =D ($34 each way is the only way to fly =D...well post 9/11 anyways. Darn PFC and security fees)

So now that we're about a week away does someone want to start up the cell list again or propose some formal plans for meeting?

I'll be there on the 16th and probably joining up a micechat drinkup, but if I manage to wake up in time I plan on being there bright and early in the am for the 17th. =D

I'm surprised Dave aka RU42 hasn't said one way or the other unless I've missed it somewhere. Any additions/removals to this list that are needed, please post them, thanks. The discussion should now be about a time & place. Fortunately we won't have to worry about rain this time :old_wink: . My vote would be what we did on 5/5 - Innoventions exit at 2pm for the official meet. Although on 5/5 we had an unofficial meet shortly after the ceremony hehehe. Does that sound good to everyone? I don't think I really want to stay up all night though. I'll sneak back to my hotel room and sleep a couple hours with a POWER NAP! ??? *trumpet blare*

Do we know if they're gonna let me at least walk through downtown disney to get to this early morning deal or do I have to go around to Harbor? *notes to bring soft shoes and a pillow*...hmmm bring a pillow/blanket, grab a DCA bench, and stuff them in a backpack for the rest of the day... :icon_idea

Hey everyone!

I just got back from my 11 day trip to Salt Lake City! I've missed visiting the boards and apologize for all the PM's I haven't had a chance to reply to. But I'm back now...

As for the July 17th meet. I suggest we meet were we did on May 5th near the Innoventions exit gate. It's still the least crowded area of the park AND possibly getting a fastpass for Space and ride it together.

That's my opinion though...

Well we did 2pm before & it seemed to work out ok. That should give everyone enough time to get from whereever they are for the 10am ceremony over to the Pizza Port/Space Mountain area. Just remember folks to time yourselves so you're eligible to get that FastPass for Space Mtn. We don't want anyone left out because less than 2 hours ago you got a FP for Indy or something. In fact, make it a rule, don't get any FP's after 12pm, that should cover it.

-- PMM :cool:Unless anyone objects, that will be the "official" group meet. Do know that various members will be there earlier, and available to meet up with others earlier [for those that will be there really early (ie: 1am), you can schedule a Pumbaa Lot Meet if you really want to] (hence the cell phone and arrival times that will be sent out). Basically, you get back a list of what you sent. If you sent me your real name, cell phone number, and arrival time, you get back a list containing those three things for everyone who sent them. If you sent just your name and arrival time, you get sent back everyone else's name and arrival time, no cell phone number since you don't have one to use in any case.

Now this is just a idea of mine, but with folks arriving at various times in the morning, from 1:00 am to 8:00 am, do we want to schedule a morning meeting INSIDE the park once it opens? I'm sure no VF member wants to cut in line to meet up with someone that's been waiting since 3:00 am. On may 5th, Daddyb was in line at 3:00 am. I arrived at 5:00 and felt a little guilty that there were others that were in line behind him that been there since 4:00.

Sure, there will be a 2:00 pm meeting, but why not meet somewhere before then, say around 9:00'ish. As crowded as the hub will be for what ever festivities Disney plans. Why not meet somewhere around the hub say near the TL entrance. Maybe someone can collect all the AP's and/or tickets for the group and go collect Fastpasses for Space or Buzz.

Again, just an idea... Oh... and how many of us are going to be there on Saturday the 16th?

Disney is renegging on the press credentials. The person who offered them to me didn't know what he was doing, basically. It's pretty hard for me to even want to go right now, but it's just too big of an event. So instead of showing up at 8am and breezing in through the Indiana Jones gate as I was promised, I have to worry about trying to get to the resort in the middle of the night again.

Anyway, who's going to be in line ridiculously early in the morning (2am) at DCA if it indeed opens that early? If no one has a portable DVD player (I do but I don't want to bring it into the park and then into a locker...) that they want to use, and you want to play a Disney game there is a Charades game. Play it with my kids sometimes. It's a fun way to act and be...well...Goofy (sometimes literally...) Not sure how early I am going to arrive though. Maybe 5:30 6:00-ish. If anyone wants me to bring the charades game, let me know. I also have a Disney music game that is fun to play. Leaving late tomorrow (Fri) so if anyone wants me to bring it let me know. If not, hey, that's less for me to carry....

Ok guys, looks like this will be my last visit before I leave for Disneyland....WOOHOO

Quick update for the rest of the fanatics arriving early and hanging out at DCA...

1.I will be there at roughly midnight and will be glad to hang out with the rest of you (talk, hold place in line for those wishing to take pictures/videos...like me)

2.I will be wearing a blue tshirt with 'Disneyland' across the front in red Disneyland font, I'll have on some baggy jeans, and I'll have a backpack on with a water bottle hooked to the front...if you think you see me, just holler "BRYAN!!)

3. I WILL...I repeat WILL be packing a portable DVD player for everybody's enjoyment (although Disney Scene It is a great game, it is a rather large box to be lugging around). Thus I will also have a couple Disney movies on me as well...

See you all in almost exactly 48 hours...

And for those who don't know me, I'll be wearing jean shorts, and a black shirt with my VF Cavemandon namebadge, and Visions Fantastic on the back.

Does anyone know how to get to the Pumba parking lot from walking from Katella?

I got my VF shirt in the mail, so I will be wearing that, and jean shorts. I'll probably have my hiar in a half pony tail...I don't know of any thing else specific. I would love to go around 1am, but my parents won't let me. So if my parents aren't too slow, I will be in line around 6. Don't be afraid to yell hi!!

Katella...Go North on Harbor Blvd. Turn West on Disney Way. That will take you into the Timon/Pumba parking lot....

I'll be walking from Katella as well but you don't need to walk to the Pumbaa lot unless you're trying to meet with people while they park their cars. I plan on just going straight to the Harbor side entrance to the esplanade and waiting from there.

I'll be wearing jean shorts, and a black shirt with my VF Cavemandon namebadge, and Visions Fantastic on the back.I changed my mind. I thought that perhaps a black shirt will be a little too warm on a July day, so I've made a new BLUE shirt with the VF logo on the back and my namebadge on the left front.

You guys are all so cool in my book. I SO look forward to meeting you all, and in some cases, seeing you again. It'll be early morning, but let's have fun!!

My one question is, if I'm not parking in the Pumba lot (as in being dropped off at 2am) will I be able to just walk up to security and wait there for whatever time they open DCA? Are the people from the parking lot going in through the esplanade, or is Disney setting up a back-door entrance?

ok, that's two questions, but burning ones in my book!

I'll probably start out with the red, white & blue Disneyland Resort polo shirt as I said in my update, but will bring a light weight hawaiian type shirt because it was SO DARN HOT wearing it around the park today! It's more winter weight than summer, and I was perspiring because of it.

(yes, it's getting washed on Saturday).

GreenLantern13
07-16-2005, 02:34 AM
It sounds like it'll be the harbor blvd. side entrance of the esplanade we'll be going through, since ticket booths will also be opening at 1:30am apparently. In which case you could make use of that nice dropoff space off of Harbor they have which I'm sure you were already thinking of heh.

I'm wondering when the walk from Pumbaa to esplanade will begin... Originally it seemed like they were gonna have people wait in Pumbaa and then go to Mickey and Friends when this rumor first came out. Now I guess they're parking in Pumbaa and staying in Pumbaa. So I'd imagine a lot of people will start walking from the lot to the esplanade entrance waiting to get in the moment they're allowed to park there.

Well, I am off to DL (well, off to my hotel room to get some sleep before tonight. I will be there most likely at 1 in the parking lot. I can't wait to see all of you there (initially I will have a black shirt, and then later the VF :) ) Look for the tired girl by herslef!

CA Screamin Dude

The plan is to wait in Pumbaa until a few minutes before DCA's scheduled opening, and then walk over. Gauge the number of vehicles in Pumbaa, it's not like you have to be the first guest into Disneyland.

Well, I just got home from the park and I must say that even though I've been up most of the night with some of you guys, and meeting the others this afternoon, I had an absolute blast! I didn't get a chance to ride much of anything today as others did, but I couldn't have asked for a better day. To me, the crowds were a bit on the large side, but they were very manageable. (Especially since most of those in attendance stood in a line that ran from the Festival Arena behind Big Thunder all the way to Critter Country.

I'm going to write up a little report later on, but I just wanted to take this moment to thank all those VF members in attendance that helped make my day (and night) wonderful. Of course, it has to be said that it COULD have been a little better if someone had not forgotten something...:icon_roll

Oh, and here's a sneak peak at the group photo my wife took. There were a couple folks missing from our 2:00 meeting so they won't be pictured here. And if it wasn't for the fact that my wife and I had to get going we would have stayed and waited until they decided to show up. I'm sure there will be more photos posted but I thought you all would get a kick out of this motley crew...

Now we don't particularly have to wait for a major event like this to keep from meeting. As fun as it was to meet up at 2:00, it might have been more fun to simply walk around as a group and ride the attractions. Imagine what it would have been like to have an entire VF Space Mountain rockets.

How about now that there's a calender system with this new system, why not put in on the calender when your going to be visiting the park. That way someone else can see when your going to be there. The Meetings thread is a nice place to announce when your going to be there but the calender might work as a little reminder.

Just an idea...

I'm so sorry I didn't contact you guys. My wife called and my oldest was having reactions to the medicine she was given when we were at the hospital on Friday (see the Space Mountain post). She luckily was already on the 5 on the way up from San Clemente, so I kinda' had to run to the front gate to Harbor Boulevard to go with them out to Riverside County's Loma Linda Hospital. My wife had called earlier while I was still sitting at lunch and said that my oldest wasn't feeling that well, but was playing with her cousin after church. It elevated shortly after that, I guess.

CavemanDon, I got the message that you'd called, but I was on the way to the hospital and too distracted to return the voicemail.

Basically some adult strength Benadryl later and my oldest is fine. I was looking forward to the 2pm meeting too. Sorry to have missed you all at 2, but had a really nice time hanging out with you guys up untill then!

Thanks for the comments on the pics! :)

Daddyb - glad to hear she's feeling better! When you didn't show up, we kinda wondered if a family emergency had come up. As for not calling back, that's completely understandable. :)

As for the protestors, I saw them... and wanted to strangle them. I don't know what they were protesting - all I saw was the back of a red banner, as they waved it and chanted something unintelligible. Regardless of whatever stand they were taking on whatever issue, that kind of protest there was wholly inappropriate. Thanks go out to Disney for getting them out of there, and props to Gov. Schwartzenegger for not missing a beat and going on as if they weren't there. I'm glad that so little attention was drawn to them! :)

I'm right below Kirsten in the white shirt with blue ringed collar/sleeves. And I look horrible in mouse ears. *scrambles for his beloved Angels hat ;)*

That is why I didn't wear mine. That and I put them in the car so I would not destroy them. I don't look good in hats.

Front row second from left. The dude w/ the Queen shirt and trucker hat. I kinda wish I had my Angels hat though too. Somehow it looked ok but a nice pic on the hat i drew nonetheless.

Wow!!! I was so tired when you took those pics of me and my bro. I have some serious baggage going on. That was like 7 at night or something aqnd I had been up for over 24 hours already. I look bad. But it was all in the name of fun and to be a part of an historical event.
