I absolutely love it! This has so many possibilities for our use. Plus, it saves you guys lots of bandwith by having the links go to a download. I'd like to start a movement that everyone only downloads and doesn't stream the site...lol

Anyhoo, if I have anything I want to submit (I am an avid filmmaker-wannabe, but have kept quiet about it till now) like photos and videos, how would I do that? This thread should explain how the gallery works and what we need to do for others to see our work.

The new Gallery pretty much requires that all video files be downloaded now. There were too many people just sitting on the site all day watching video after video without downloading them and it was taking a lot of site resources to do that.

We haven't decided how we're going to take video uploads. The software supports it, but we just haven't figured out the logistics of doing it. For now, we've given everyone 2 megs of space to work with in their own Gallery, but a Video Gallery people can upload to may have to be something do we on an individual basis (You'd have to seperately sign up for it).

Remember everyone, up until last week I'd never worked with any of this software before, so I'm still learning too!

^Oh, yeah, we're all getting used to it. Based on some browsing I'm actually starting to really like the new forums. Keep up the good work!

That's a really neat idea! :)

Are the photos in the existing gallery going to be transferred to the new one, or should we be ready to re-upload?

There is no way for us to directly import the photos from our existing Gallery into the new one. A few people have voiced technical hardships (dialup, etc) and we will make an attempt to help those folks out first. If you are able, (have broadband, etc), I suggest manually moving them to a new Folder for yourself. Keep in mind that everyone has a 2 Meg limit on Photos right now (We might be increasing that to 4 Megs later this week). A lot of people in the previous Gallery had quite a few photos, and obviously we can't host them all. We may be adding an option for people who donate to VF to get extra space in the Gallery. We haven't worked out these details yet.

I want to stress that we aren't CHARGING for VF's services, but for people who want the option of having extra space in their Gallery, and are kind enough to help keep VF online, it's their choice.

I know it's a bandwidth issue but 2 megs seems very small. I mean, that's smaller than 1 picture on most digital cameras today. maybe you should put a tutorial up for those who don't know how to reduce their photos.

The Gallery itself has a lot of tools to resize and alter the image quality of a Photo. But yes, 2 Megs is quite small so it's likely we'll be increasing that. We want to make sure there are no "issues" with the Gallery before people start putting massive amounts of Photos into it.

2 quick things... First, a mod has to review all gallery submissions now? have fun with that ;)

Second, it'd be nice if there was a link back to the main corner cafe page from in the gallery. Within the forum I can click the "Corner Cafe" link in the directory listing by the VF logo but that's gone in the gallery.

I uploaded a picture just to try the gallery out, but I guess I have to wait for approval ;)

Mod approval is only during our testing period. The Forums are pretty much open, but the Gallery has some tweaking to be done on it. Once we're ready to go we'll raise the upload limits and take away the Mod approval.

At the very bottom of the every page in the Forum and Gallery is a toolbar with options. Click the "Discussion" link to go back to the Forums. You can also click the "Corner Cafe" Flashbar link, (just above our Copyright notice) which should also take you back to the NEW forums.

Had another quick gallery question here! As I was uploading, I noticed that file sizes of the images I've uploaded to the site are considerably larger than they are on my harddrive. Is the gallery changing the format from the compressed JPGs that I'm uploading?

EDIT: Ah, nevermind, it only seems to be happening to images larger than 600-ish pixels wide. :)
