Disney admits too many Pixar-based rides

Its just kind of ironic so many people complain about too many Pixar based rides and Disney publishes a list of them.

Agreed. That article does nothing of the sort! And there should be no reason for them to "admit to too many" when they are some of the most popular rides in the park! Come on folks, Pixar has brought in A LOT of money to the company and is NOW PART of Disney! It's here to stay, so get used to it!

I'm trying to understand what people object to with the PIXAR rides. I love the Finding Nemo Sub ride--it is so much better than the old one, sorry to offend anyone. I love the Monster's Inc Ride, in fact my son loved it so much that we rode it about 5 times last month when we were there--ditto for The Buzz Lightyear ride. We saw Turtle Talk with Crush twice while we were there and we all loved it! All the Bug's Life rides and 3D movie in DCA are really fun and the PIXAR play parade is very cute. I just don't get all the complaints about PIXAR.

^I do agree, Pixar is great, and we have some good Pixar attractions, but the reason many dislike the attractions is because recently the only new rides we've been getting are Pixar, and many of us want things that Disney has created, or something that IS NOT movie based. I like the rides, but I'd like the Imagineers to start pulling ideas out of their own heads, not ideas from their colleagues down at Disney Studios. I want them to make something that only DLR has, and that Isn't in a Movie. A couple of movie based attractions are fine, (star tours, indy) but now there is one land devoted to a movie, and soon to be two at DCA.
And I know that everything in fantasyland was a movie, but those aren't original ideas from Walt. Cinderella wasn't created by Disney, and neither is most of the stuff in Fantasyland. Those are Generic Stories, and same with BTMRR, and HM, POTC those were all typical stories, not something like Cars. You could say were looking for a new spin on Classic Disney.

Once again, we have to realize the point of DL was to make most of the main attractions out of movies, so you can't really get mad at them for that. But, what if Disney and Pixar break up? Would Disney still have the rights to all the movies and rides?

I guess what I'm curious about is the numbers.........people are obviously riding the PIXAR attractions, but are lots of people riding them so that to Disney it made good business sense to install these attractions or is the ridership low??

thats not entirely true Animal Kingdom's Expedition Everest has nothing to do with Pixar, and it is very popular amongst roller coaster and scenery fans alike. But I do see your point every other ride is Pixar based that is new or being worked on, if any.

I don't think anyone has said the rides that have Pixar movies as their theme are bad products. The rides themselves are fairly entertaining.

However, when the past 8 years or so have seen such an influx of these movies into the parks to the point now where they are almost everywhere you turn, it raises red flags in people's minds.

What also can alarm people is what has given way to make room for these Pixar-themed attractions. For example, DCA's Turtle Talk replaced One Man's Dream - a film all about Walt Disney's life and works. That one really rubbed me the wrong way. Heard all sorts of arguments over numbers and how Turtle Talk was so much better because it brought more people into the theatre, etc. I never bought it. If people won't go see a film about Walt, but they will to a show with a talking turtle, the problem isn't the Walt show, nor is the solution its replacement. But I digress...

Another example is BLAB. While it is a good ride, BLAB went into a empty building vacated by Rocket Rods which forced out CircleVision. If it was me, I'd have restored the Circlevision rather than installing BLAB because I thought guests would get more out of the film(s) CircleVision could offer than a simple point & shoot the gun at the target ride. They did a good job with it, and it's fun shooting the gun, but to me, BLAB contributed to the dumbing down of the park experience that is one of the arguments against the Pixar rides.

While that frustration shouldn't be directed at the Pixar rides but at the ones who approve of the existence of the Pixar rides, I do agree that they are hailing a new age of a dumbed-down experience that has come about since the turn of the century and looks to continue into the future. Instead of a creative voyage through liquid space, we're now simply finding Nemo. Instead of having an eye-opening look at whatever they wanted to make a film about (or just import from Epcot - the new O'Canada show is actually pretty good!), we're shooting laser guns at Z targets. Instead of having the thrill of seeing and hearing a daytime parade on the level of Lion King Celebration, or even Parade of Dreams, we're hearing retread music in a parade that is so unimaginative they've had to resort to spraying everyone with water guns. I could go on but I think you get the idea.

Regardless of the theme, when the experience starting becoming dumbed-down compared to the past, especially to a well-educated about the past crowd like Disneyland fans are having had so much education during the 50th, people will notice. When they start popping up in several places, people will start becoming uneasy. When they intrude on places they shouldn't, like replacing a good film about the life & works of Walt Disney, people become alarmed.

This, I believe, is why people watch Pixar-themed rides with a very close eye, and have grown to feel like they're surrounded by them & the walls are closing in.

They make good rides, but they shouldnt have that many rides based off pixar. I think they should just make random rides if that makes sense. :)

I get what your saying, but the first Disney Rides there were sorta based on movies. They stories, that walt took and turned into movies. What I meant is Classic Stories like Cinderella, Snow White, or Pinochio, were not created by Disney. The story came from someone else, and walt based the ride off that. Thats why If you haven't seen the Pinocchio Movie, you still know the story, because its a classic bedtime story. Finding Nemo on the other hand, Is Not a Classic Story, but a Story that Pixar Made Up Recently.

I know, I was mainly talking about DLR. Recently (five years or so) we've gotten

-Its Tough TO be a bug
-Bugs Land
-TOT
-Monsters INC
-Nemo
- Toy Story Mania
and soon cars land with a bunch of Pixar Rides
I know i may be missing a few but the majority of the list is Pixar. Nothing on that list is an original Idea by someone other then disney, (actually TOT is a movie based off a real TV show so I guess that doesn't count)

Overall, I'm not happy about all of this Pixar stuff.

I like BLAB because it is fun, well themed, and didn't try to modernize a classic. On the other hand, I hate Nemo.

Monster's Inc is a great ride. Plus, it is it's own thing (Just like anything A Bug's Life related) and never replace or encrouched upon an already existing attraction.

why dont people just for get about it being pixar and just take it as Disney, its a Disney ride not pixar, Disney owns pixar so there!

Well, according to Bob Iger, Ratatouille WILL NOT be getting an attraction at any of the parks, so I guess that's one less Pixar attraction to worry about. To tell you the truth, I was actually looking forward to the rumored Ratatouille coaster at DHS.

They do admit too many pixar rides but as a good thing.

My opinion on Pixar rides:
I ENJOYED Finding Nemo submarine voyage because i'm glad to see the subs working again! I am excited for Toy Story mainia in DCA but not in DHS.Block Party Bash looks cool, but DO WE NEED A PIXAR PLAY PARADE??!!?? WHY??!!?? It's just an excuse for Pixar!!! MILF belongs in DHS, NOT in tomorrowland. Carsland looks REALLY promising, especially the tire ride! I haven't see the finished version of "The Seas."
The rest of the pixar rides i don't care for.

I know Disney owns pixar, but I haven't seen anything original/ non pixar in a looooooooooong time!
