Filter Sizes

I'm new to the whole filter thing.... and I'm not sure about sizing.

My question is how do you determine what size filter you need? Does it depend on the type of filter?

Look at your camera's specifications. Filter size is just its diameter and you have to know what the diameter is that your camera allows you to screw on. Sometimes you have a filter that's a different size and an adapter that you screw it onto and then screw the adapter onto your camera, but for most normal sizes you won't need to do that.

Almandot pretty much explained it, but I'll add here, too, that if you're using an SLR or dSLR, the filter size you need will be different for each lens. :smile:
