Robinson People Movers
Inspired By Disney?s Meet the Robinsons
The Wedway Peoplemover officially opened on July 2, 1967.
It was part of the new Tomorrowland and was considered the first system of it?s kind in the world. Since then, the peoplemover has delighted guests of all ages from across the world. As most of you probably know, it closed on August 21st, 1995. Some of you may ask yourselves, is it over for the peoplemovers? Will the track just stand there as a memory to one of the most well remembered attractions in Disneyland? I can?t give you the answer to this question but I can answer you another. That question is, ?What If ?? What if a new peoplemover was introduced? What if it would be placed in the same area as before? Would it be better? Would it be worse? Well then, see for yourself?
Robinson Peoplemovers

A new addition to Tomorrowland is the Robinson Peoplemover. It replaces the unused track that used to host the Rockets Rods attraction and the Peoplemover. However, these new sets of peoplemovers are advancement in transportation. Each individual peoplemover car can spin up to 360 degrees. So, guests can enjoy views from every side whether it?s forward, backward, left, or right. The entire ride is hosted by Wilbur Robinson, a character from Disney?s Meet the Robinsons. Guests will be able to take part in a new adventure while still enjoying fantastic views of Tomorrowland. Not only have new vehicles been introduced, but also a new track which, like before, propels the vehicles forward instead of the wheels. Now, the peoplemovers are more efficient and can reach higher speeds then before. Each car is equipped with top notch sound and cushioned seats for maximum comfort.
Guests of Tomorrowland notice the new peoplemover attraction that had been closed for some time. They notice some changes to the entire building. The most noticeable change is the top of the station. Back in the day, it used to host the Rocket Jets attraction. Now, a new ride is placed above the station. The new ride is a modern day version of the Rocket Jets. The attraction is called, ?Robinson Hover Cars?. Here guests can pilot their own flying car for a trip above the skies. On the side of the building is a rotating sign that reads, ?Robinson Industries?. Just visible from a distance are the new peoplemovers. They are long cars of four. Each car can carry four people. In total, it can hold up to 16 people. Instead of being simple box shaped trains, they are now spherical fast moving vehicles. Each is painted a different color of blue, red, silver, yellow, or orange. The front of every peoplemover has a Robinson Industry logo painted on it. The entire queue is set under ground. Guests will make their way to the beginning of the line by going down some stairs. There is a tunnel ahead and just beside it is a small stand with a sign placed on it. It reads, ?The Robinson Peoplemovers are slow moving vehicles that can reach speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. These new peoplemovers will take you on a tour of Tomorrowland. Guests pass the entrance and then descend down a set of stairs. Once at the bottom, they find themselves in a medium sized room. The room is filled with glass barriers which are covering a number of odd looking inventions. Each barrier has a plaque on it that names the invention, what it does, and the year it was invented. Behind an enormous glass barrier is a replica of the peoplemover. It is blue and slightly tilted but looks perfect nonetheless. The plaque reads, ?Robinson Peoplemovers- Used for quick transportation in busy cities- Invented by Cornelius Robinson in the year 2025- Say goodbye to busses, trains, and the subway. This new and fantastic way of getting to where you need to go is the next generation in transportation- Robinson Industries reminds you to keep moving forward-? .This room is the Robinson Industries basement. Here is where all the models are kept. The guests make their way past the queue and into the next show room. The next room is the Industry meeting room. There is a long table on the side of the rails. There is a large window behind the Chief Executive Officer?s chair. The chairs are empty and some are tilted. The tall walls are a light blue color and have large R?s painted on each side. There are four fans on the ceiling and a coffee machine placed by the wall. A large poster is put on the wall to show company profits. Scattered all over the table are business papers and invention propositions. The queue rails lead the quests past the meeting room and into the next room which is Cornelius?s office. This room is quite small and protected by another barrier of glass. There is a desk placed on the back of the wall. On the desk are dozens of ripped up papers. There is a broken pencil on the floor and many of Lewis?s drawings pinned to the wall. A Robinson Industries coffee mug is on the ground next to another door that cannot be entered. A dim lamp is on the ceiling illuminating quite little of the room. The last thing about the room is the enormous poster on the right wall. It is a hand drawn sketch of the spherical peoplemover. Tiny letters are written on the bottom right corner but they are too small to read. Last but not least is Cornelius?s armchair. It is very tall and thick. Sitting on it is a man. The man?s face isn?t visible but his hair is. His hair is spiky and yellow. The man is obviously Cornelius Robinson himself. He is moving his pencil from side to side. This is very similar to Roger Rabbit?s Cartoon Spin?s queue. As most of you know, when in the Roger Rabbit queue, baby Herman is seen in his cradle smoking a cigar. His hand moves from side to side while he listens to the radio. This is the case here except instead of smoking, Cornelius is thinking up a new invention. Guests leave the office and enter the final part of the queue: The Exit Hallway. This is really nothing special. It?s just a hallway that leads to the loading station. On each side of the hall are doors. Each door leads to someone?s office. In total, there are 16 doors. There is a carpet that stretches all the way down the hall. This room has little importance. There is actually nothing behind the doors. They can?t be opened at all and are just used for decoration. After crossing the hall, guests are taken up a set of stairs. After climbing and reaching the top, guests find themselves back outside. The station is seen just a short distance away. There is a tunnel ahead. Guests enter it and then exit it. They cross the edge and then are taken up by an escalator. The loading station is finally reached. The peoplemovers are seen clearly now. They move forward without stopping. Guests make their way inside one. The automatic doors close and they head out of the station. The inside of the peoplemover is quite comfortable. The seats are cushioned for maximum comfort. The peoplemover leaves the station and heads straight forward. ?Welcome aboard the Robinson Peoplemover. This is Wilbur Robinson speaking to you from Robinson Tower. You know I?d appreciate it if you didn?t tell my dad about me up here I just couldn?t resist. Anyway, now that we?re underway I want review a few safety guidelines. First of all, no eating or drinking while on board. If my dad finds even the slightest trace of food he?s going to freak. Second, no smoking while onboard. I can?t tell you how many times my dad has found ashes on the peoplemover?s seats. Last but not least, keep your hands, arms, feet, and legs inside at all times. It?s very dangerous and you could fall out and hurt yourself?like I?d care. Anyways, it looks like we?re right on track and are proceeding as planned. Today, we will cover the world of Tomorrow in less then 20 minutes! Not very impressive in my opinion but hey, you guys aren?t used to the future. So let?s just carry on and don?t ask any questions. Understood? Great, so let?s carry on. To your bottom left is the Star Trader. Here you can find anything from toys to clothing or any other souvenir you may want while visiting Tomorrowland.? The peoplemover passes the Star Trader. Guests look to their right to see another peoplemover heading back to the station. ?Hey, this just isn?t that great of a view. I mean, you have to keep moving your head from side to side just to view something. Let me make it easier for you? A strange sound is heard and the peoplemover car spins and faces the left side. ?Now that?s better. As you can see, these vehicles not only get you where you need to go, but also provide you with a great view of your surrounding based on where you are in the track. It?s a bit complicated to explain so we?ll just leave it at that. Ok, back to business. We?re about to enter one of the many attractions you?ll find here in Tomorrowland: Star Tours. Remember everyone, stay seated at all times. I don?t care how tempting it is to jump off the peoplemover and land on the Star Speeder. I want everyone inside.? The peoplemover moves through the Star Tours queue. Guests spot a rare view of the back of the Star Speeder. Wilbur is then heard again right after they pass by C3PO. ?Ok, now it?s time for me to have a little fun. Hold tight now.? The peoplemover then begins to spin in circles. It spins for a few seconds and then goes back to its left position. ?That was some great fun. Hope you didn?t get too dizzy. What a kid can?t have any fun around here? Whatever then, let?s carry on? The peoplemover takes a small turn. It then moves forward. Guests look to their left to see a Storm Trooper mannequin. ?Whoa there dude, hold your fire. We?re just taking a tour here. No need to fire. Whew, glad that?s over with. Now below you is the Star Trader again. Like I said before, you can buy anything from toys, clothes, or any other kind of souvenir. It?s a great store actually. That?s where I bought my Star Wars shirt. The force is definitely with me when I wear this shirt. If you look forward, you can see the Starcade. In case you?re not riding Space Mountain, be sure to check it out while your party is in line. Now we?re about to enter one of Tomorrowland?s most exciting adventures: Space Mountain. Just like the peoplemover, stay seated at all times while on board. Alright then, it?s about time to spin you guys again so hold on.? The peoplemover spins left and then faces forward.
? Great, now I can give you a glimpse of what you?ll see while on Space Mountain. The peoplemover moves into a dark tunnel. After a few moments, the area becomes slightly visible. There are hundreds of stars all around the vast space. Guests can spot meteors flying around them. A rocket speeds past the peoplemover from above making a cold wind speed by. ?Let me tell you, I?ve never been to space but if I ever did, I?m pretty sure it would be quite similar to this. Another rocket speeds above the peoplemover. The peoplemover spins around slowly giving the guests a great view of the coaster. It?s too dark to see much but some of the areas are visible. The peoplemover then leaves Space Mountain and spins to the left. ?Here in the magic eye theater, Wayne Szalinski accepts his inventor of the year award. But I wouldn?t be too sure that all will go well. His new shrink machine may not be that reliable. I just know one thing; I am definitely not going in there. The Magic Eye Theater previously hosted the shows Magic Journeys and Captain EO.? The peoplemover finally exits the building and heads toward an open clearing. ?Just ahead is Red Rocket?s Pizza Port. Here you can enjoy a delicious pizza with a side of salad. It is quite a unique restaurant so bring the whole family. I just realized I skipped lunch. I think I?ll have something too eat after I get rid of all of you. You know just the other day, my dad built this-?His voice is cut off by a loud voice that came from the building ahead. The peoplemover spins right and faces forward. An evil laugh is heard as the peoplemover enters the Innoventions building. ?Hah! Yes, I knew it. We?ve finally got that little brat and?a bunch of other people I don?t know. Surrender the blueprints of the Robinson Peoplemover or face the challenges that lie ahead!? This voice belongs to the villain of the movie, the Bowler Hat guy. ?How about you let us through anyways and I don?t give you a thing. How does that sound?? The area because pitch black and another laugh is heard. ?Insolent boy! You shall pay for your arrogance with your life! Alright then, if that?s the way you want it, then so be it. Now my slave, seize that peoplemover!? The room is quiet for a few moments and then the peoplemover tips completely to the left and then right. It rocks back and fourth for a bit and then a loud roar is heard. Standing just a few feet away from the peoplemover is a giant dinosaur?s head. This is an animatronic of the dinosaur from the movie. The dinosaur opens its mouth to roar. The peoplemover then faces forward and then begins to shake violently. ?Is everyone ok? Oh I just know I?m going to get blamed for this. We can?t get past that thing. Hmm?or can we? I have an idea. I?ll just set the codes and?yes! I got it! Activate emergency laser beam!? From out of nowhere, a green beam appears aiming at the dinosaur. The dinosaur roars because of the bright green laser. The giant head moves around for a few moments and then goes back to its hiding place. The bowler hat guy?s voice is heard again. ?Oh I hate that boy! This may be a bit harder then I thought. Well then, I may no be able to steal those blueprints but I know one thing I can do. I?ll make your passengers nauseous using my universal remote. It works on my television?and my enemies!? The peoplemover begins to spin around in full circles for a while. ?Hey! Stop that, you?re wrecking my dad?s peoplemover. Everyone, I?m begging you not to throw up on the seats. You?re finished bowler hat guy. Initiating system override in 3, 2, 1?? The peoplemover stops spinning and faces straight. It then speeds straight forward at a faster speed. A few seconds pass and the peoplemover exits the Innnoventions building. ?This isn?t over Robinson! I?ll have your precious peoplemover and all of Robinson Industries! I promise you that it will all soon be mine! Just as soon as I?find my dinosaur. Oh Rex! Where are you boy? Oh there you are. Alright then, stay?stay?I said stay! Hold it! Wait! No, don?t take my hat! No! Don?t eat it! Oh I hate you too. I?ll get you Wilbur Robinson!!!? His voice echoes and then stops. ?That was a close one. No! That dumb animal scratched the paint on car 3! That Bowler hat guy is going to pay for this? I?m going to pay for this?my dad is gonna kill me! Oh well, back to normal matters. I might as well have some fun before my grounding for life.? The peoplemover spins left and faces toward all of Tomorrowland. After passing by a bit of the Autopia track, Wilbur?s voice is heard. ?Just above you is Tomorrowland?s Highway in the Sky. Traveling on the track are sleek monorails that can take you on a two and a half mile journey around the Disneyland Resort. Did you guys know that the Monorail covers more distance then any other ride here at Disneyland? Well neither did I. I just read it on my computer. Anyway, let?s move on. There are plenty of interesting things ahead.? The peoplemover passes through a few trees and then moves past another bit of the Autopia track. Guests spot a few cars driving by. The peoplemover spins to the right facing North-East. ?From here you can see the gold and a white spires of it?s a small world. Here you can sail across the seven seas on a voyage through the many countries of the world.? The peoplemover spins to the left and faces the East side of Tomorrowland. The guests look down to see the lagoon and its fantastic waterfalls. ?Below you is the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Deep within the waters of the lagoon are colorful reefs and sea anemones. You can explore the coral reef and find Nemo in this brand new version of the classic Submarine Voyage.? The guests look ahead to see an ocean buoy with three sea gulls nestled on top of it. The birds look around the water and occasionally exclaim their only lines; Mine! Mine! Mine! The peoplemover spins around to face the other side. Guests look below to see a yellow submarine entitled, Nautilus and another behind it titled Explorer. The first sub enters the waterfall while the second sub follows. It then spins back to face Tomorrowland. Ahead is the Monorail Station. The Monorail opened in 1959 along with the Matterhorn Bobsleds and the Submarine Voyage.? The peoplemover passes the station and takes a long curve. The peoplemover spins left and faces the Innoventions building. ?If you look to the Northern-West direction, you can see the Autopia station. There you can race your cars through the open road exploring tunnels and other sights such as a car park. Who would have thought that a kid could actually get to drive a vehicle? It?s ironic isn?t it? I mean I?m driving this vehicle and?well you get the idea.? The peoplemover moves away from the Autopia station and heads toward the side of the Matterhorn. ?Just below is Tomorrowland Terrace. It has played host to many stage performances. Today, it?s the Jedi Training Academy. But who knows, tomorrow it can be the?Learn to Be like Wilbur Robinson Training Academy. I?m getting a little too caught up with my thoughts. Towering above Fantasyland is the most famous bobsled ride of all time: The Matterhorn. Inside you can race through ice caverns and even have an encounter with an abominable snowman.? A building is seen ahead and just before the peoplemover enters it, guests spot the Matterhorn. The view is excellent. The peoplemover enters the dark tunnel. ?One of the new installments of Tomorrowland is Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. There you can blast your way through the evil emperor Zurg?s robots. Help Buzz defeat Zurg, the sworn enemy of the galactic alliance. Before we end this tour around Tomorrowland, I?d like to show you a small preview of what you?ll see inside.? After passing through the tunnel, the peoplemover begins to make a small turn. Guests look below to see little vehicles spinning with passengers inside. They are shooting what appear to be countless robots and other weird objects with small laser guns. Once the peoplemover moves a bit further, guests can see a large animatronic of Zurg. He is holding his ion blaster and is heard begging the passengers to join him instead of defeating him. The peoplemover exits the building. The seats spin to right. ?If you look straight ahead you can see the heart of Disneyland, central plaza which leads to any of the original lands.? The peoplemover spins back to a straight position. ?Just to your right is the Astro Orbiter. Today, you can ride either the Robinson Hover cars or the Astro Orbiter. It just makes Tomorrowland even better when we add new things. That?s what Robinson Industries is all about: Keep Moving Forward. Right now, we?re definitely moving forward. Ahead is the Robinson Peoplemover station. Just below you is the entrance to Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. To your right is the entrance to Star Tours. Today, Tomorrowland is filled with adventures where you can fly through space, travel to the moon of Endor, take a voyage through liquid space, or even drive your own car through the freeways of the future. Overall, Tomorrowland is a fun filled imaginative realm of fun and adventure. Most of us may not know what the future holds but we are sure of one thing, that there?s a great big beautiful tomorrow ahead for all of us. Thanks for joining me in this grand circle tour around Tomorrowland and remember, Keep Moving Forward.? The peoplemover enters the station. Guests make their way down an escalator as the Robinson Industries theme plays. They exit the station and head toward the other attractions that Tomorrowland has to offer?
This was just an idea I came up with and I think it would be cool. I don?t know about any of you but I think this would work. Feel free to comment and thanks for reading.
Applause, Applause!
