Disneyland Resort Tuesday, August 14
PR Newswire (press release)

The biggest splash of the summer, the world premiere of Disney Channel's highly-anticipated High School Musical 2, will be hosted at AMC Theatres in Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort on Tuesday, August 14.

It will be the latest highlight of the ongoing Year of a Million Dreams celebration at the Resort, and the newest chapter in the unparalleled worldwide popularity of High School Musical. The phenomenon has even extended into Disney's California Adventure, where High School Musical has jumped out into the park as a live show.

Stars of the movie, along with director-choreographer Kenny Ortega and other celebrity guests will walk the carpet in Downtown Disney prior to the 6:00pm screening. Following the Downtown Disney festivities, they will attend an invitation-only poolside party at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. High School Musical 2 follows other high-profile premieres hosted at the Disneyland Resort, including all three Pirates of the Caribbean films. This will mark the first time a movie made especially for Disney Channel has been premiered at the Resort.

My sister and I plan on going to this. Does anyone have an opinion as to when a good arrival time would be if we want premium spots? We went to the Pirates premiere also, but I highly doubt this will be anything like that. Thanks!

The phenomenon has even extended into Disney's California Adventure, where High School Musical has jumped out into the park as a live show.

If this wasn't so laughable I'd cry. Can whoever writes PR stuff like this really look themselves in the mirror?

The Year of a Million Dreams - a scheme rushed in development and wholly lacking in substance now has this premiere as a 'highlight'? Well I guess since Year of a Million Dreams takes all credit for ANYTHING that happens in the next 18 months, that's not a surprise.

'Unparalled worldwide popularity'?? Sorry, overmarketing something into countries that couldn't give a darn about, and is in large part totally against their culture, doesn't equate to unparalled worldwide popularity. But feel free to self-proclaim it if you wish - it'll only prove how shallow HSM truely is.

And yeah, the 'phenomenon' did jump into DCA, BECAUSE YOU PUT IT THERE! Is anyone else noticing this very disturbing trend of Disney over-marketing something, and then excusing itself because of the huge popularity as evidenced by all the marketing? Marketing does not and never has equated popularity, nor has popularity ever justified anything. This odd mutation of these two fallacies is nothing short of unbelieveable. Disney has lowered their standards so far with this that I think even Disney forgot what its standards once were.

But this is just enough to bash your head in with a cinder block over. Disney put HSM in DCA as a show, and then points to that as evidence of how great and popular HSM is. Sorry! Not sure who you're trying to fool with that but it's painfully and woefully transparent.

KABC-TV ABC 7 - Los Angeles

High School Musical is an industry that is completely in tune with America's teens and tweens. Thousands of people came to Downtown Disney on Tuesday to get a glimpse of the stars of High School Musical 2, at the film's premiere. The new High School Musical soundtrack came out Tuesday and the second movie premieres on the Disney Channel on Friday.

The stars enjoyed the chance to meet some of their fans. "I think that's really why we are here, why we are doing this is, is for that connection with the kids and for them to really realize you know that we can be role models that can be positive, and be a positive movie, and that's what it's all about, is reaching the kids," Chris Warren, Jr., of High School Musical, said.

"I mean this is really crazy. It's absolutely surreal. The fans are amazing. They really are. We did the first movie we never thought it was gonna be this huge," Ashley Tisdale, of High School Musical, said.
