Okay, let me put it this way. In general, compared to every single movie ever made, this was excellant. However, compared to all of the movies Pixar has made, this is probably my least favorite.

I thought that the movie was excellent. It wasn't my favorite from Pixar, but it's probably number 4. The animation was perfect, and it was funny from beginning to end. It was excellent.

Ratatouille is my favorite Pixar movie. Its such a fresh story, that no other company has thought of. (like bugs life and antz, nemo and shark tale...)

You could argue that Flushed Away had a similar premise. I'm pretty sure Ratatouille was in productrion first though.

I found it amusing that the director tried to take away the 'ick factor' from the swarm of mice taking over the kitchen by having them all go through the dishwasher first. That was a cute touch.
I thought it was a little too "Stuart Little" in the end when Remy is in the kitchen of his own, and has little steps and a platform to look out the kitchen window at the patrons. I could have done without that part of the ending.
I thought it was WONDERFUL however when Antoinne Ego first tasted the "Ratatouille" and it brought him home to his own childhood. I think there's something to be said that some of the best culinary tastes somehow take us back to our childhood, or to memories of times past.
One of my favorite scenes is when Linguini has first captured Remy in the glass jar and has been ordered to kill him... and takes him to the river's edge (the Seine?) and talks to him and finally lets Remy go thinking he has bargained with him... and Remy goes scurrying off in glee thinking that he's made a sucker of Linguinin... only to have second thoughts and turns around as Linguini gets on his bicycle thinking he's been made a sucker of, again.
It's a really nice moment with lots of emotions and thoughts that you can read in the characters faces... and the soundtrack is wonderful in the way it backs up all the emotions that are happening.
It's a moment that I don't any Pixar movie previously (or any animated film of any genre) has handled as well.

We are taking our 5 year old to see it today and I can't wait! From what everyone is saying here, it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. I'll let you know what I think when I get back =)

I saw it yesterday, and I thought it was a good movie. Remy is probably the cutest rat I've ever seen, plus it was really funny. All in all, a great family movie.

My review:
"Excellent all around. I'd even say it's Pixar's best... maybe tied with The Incredibles.
The voice acting is excellent, the animation is excellent, the story is excellent. Pixar is definitely one of the best animation studios in the world. They have produced outstanding works of art.
Brad Bird is a great director and was PERFECT for this movie.
Compared to other animated fare this year, this film beats the crap out of Shrek 3 and is even better then the magnificent Surf's Up (which is also worth seeing). I haven't seen Meet the Robinsons.
A must see. 5/5, A+"

We just saw Ratatouille and we all loved it! What surprised me the most was how wonderful all the music was! I am definitely going to buy the soundtrack for this one. I thought it was a wonderful story and the animation was incredible! I laughed a lot, but certain parts were really touching, for instance the part that DaddyB mentioned about when Ego tried the ratatouille and then had a flashback about the comfort it brought him as a child when his Mom made it for him. Just a really cute movie and I want a big stuffed Remy now =) I would love to see it again!

Oh thats right. I never saw it, so thats probably why I didnt think of it. Did it have the same story and environment types as Ratatouille?

^ Basically a rat gets flushed down a toilet and discovers the world of the sewers... He meets this girl rat... And like... Frog people, they are bad. Vilains. Sound much like Ratatouille?

I haven't seen it either. I just know that it takes place in England, which is a little bit like having Ratatouille that takes place in France. I don't think the stories were similar though. I don't really know.

The stories weren't similar at all. Ratatouille is about a rat who loves food and cooking; he wants nothing to do with eating out of garbage cans like all the other rats. It's about him trying to find his place in the "people" world, which he eventually manages to do.

Wow. What an awesome movie. After watching the extremely dissapointing "Cars" I went into Ratatouille with low expectations. To say this is one of the best movies Ive seen in a while is an understatment. Amazing.
The best animated movie Ive seen since Wallece and Gromit.

I wish I had an intense, beautiful, purple-haired, French-chef girlfriend. That would be totally awesome. Although I would feel very awkward riding on the back of her motorcycle.
Horray for Patton Oswald!

So the only similarities are that both of the main characters are rats. Got it.

The rats in Ratatouille are rats.
The rats in Flushed away are rat people who don't look much like a real rat but creepy people with a tail and ears.

thanks for clearing it up.
By the way, I saw ratatouille again today, and I noticed Bomb Voyage in a quick scene on the streets doing mime work for a kid. Did anyone else notice this? I dont remember exactly when it happened though.
And was the Pizza Planet truck added into Ratatouille?

Wow! I love it when Pixar adds little things like that in their movies.
So, Bomb Voyage retired from villain work? Lol
And, I'm sure a Pizza Planet truck is in Ratatouille. They are in all the movies, lol.
I haven't seen Ratatouille yet, but I want to really, really bad... :frown:

I loved this movie but was bummed to not see any outtakes at the end. I hope they add them on the DVD.

Question- What were the credits like in this film? Were they clevor and original like the Incredibles credit? Or no?
James N.

Yep, they were awesome and hand drawn animation is used ;)
norcal1219

Yes, that was some pretty good hand drawn animation. I bet Pixar would do a good job on a traditional animated short/movie.

Yay, I just loved the art style they put in to the credits for The Incredibles, and I'm glad I can expect something cool like that in Ratatouille too!
I can go for these kinds of credits over the bloopers any day.

In many ways, I felt this was the best film Pixar has done. It was as a whole, a much more subtle film than past films, but as an artistic piece, it was incredable.
No, they didn't have the outtakes at the end, but the French Neuvo 70's look was brilliant.
I love this film.

I saw it with my children yesterday and although it was cute, I did not think itwas Pixar'sbest. The animation and stuff were great but there was just something lacking that I cannot put my finger on it.

"This film was 100% animation, no motion capture was used"
My dad and I laughed out loud at that (he's an animator), we both hate MoCap.

Does Shrek use motion capture? If so, that's probably one of the reasons I don't care for the animation style. I feel that, if you're going to use animation or puppets, then there should be a very good reason. Animated characters can do things regular people can't, so animating with the use of motion capture defeats the purpose of doing animation in my mind, unless you want the characters to move as realistically as possible (ie the Pirates cursed crew).
I was enthralled by Ratatouille. I actually shed a tear when Ego dropped his pen, shocked at his response to the special dish. I didn't like CARS at all, and was glad to see Pixar return to storytelling as opposed to gimmicks.

No, Shrek didn't use motion capture... but I still don't care for the animation either... especially the humans. They're pretty stiff looking especially around the face... not as bad as Polar Express but still...
And I totally agree with you.

^ It was not my favorite Pixar movie, but if I had the choice to see it again, I would. The detail they put into it was amazing, and there were some really funny parts. The short in the beggining is now my favorite.

This film was Brad Bird's finest work, closely followed by the Incredibles. I felt inspired by the way the food was drawn and how much detail was put into it (like that crepe that was on Linguini's stove when Remy was teaching him how to follow his directions).
