French police are investigating the death of a 14-year-old Spanish girl who lost consciousness while riding a roller coaster at Disneyland Paris, park officials said Tuesday.

The girl boarded the ride Monday at the theme park in Marne-la-Vallee east of the French capital, and when the ride stopped, her friends found her unconscious, Disneyland spokesman Pieter Boterman said. Medical teams at the theme park tried to revive her, but by the time the ambulance arrived, the girl had died, he said.

The cause of the girl's death remained unclear. Police opened an investigation, and an autopsy was planned for Tuesday, Boterman said.

Disneyland authorities immediately shut down the ride, and it remained closed Tuesday. A preliminary inspection of the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ride found no malfunctions with the machinery, Boterman said. Boterman said the park was waiting to hear the cause of the girl's death before determining whether to reopen it.

The ride is at Walt Disney Studios Park, one of two theme parks at Disneyland Resort Paris. The complex, which opened in 1992, was formerly called Euro Disney.

How sad... it really is something grievous when someone dies on a Disney ride... any lawsuits, though? I wonder...

It's probably the same case as Mission Space. She was probably suffering from something.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. How awful it would be to lose someone, especially at a theme park!

Rock'n'Roller Coaster death not caused by attraction

Police investigate teenage death on roller-coaster (http://www.ttc.org/200706261338.l5qdc4h00119.htm)

French police were Tuesday investigating the death of a Spanish teenage girl who collapsed while on a roller-coaster at the Disneyland theme park outside Paris. The 14-year-old, who was with a group of school friends, was found dead after a ride on the high-speed Rock'n'Roller Coaster on Monday. The attraction has been closed until the cause of death is determined.

Local prosecutor Rene Pech said that it was likely the girl was suffering from an undiagnosed ailment. "As things stand there is no reason to think the attraction itself is to blame. It's more likely there was a medical cause, but we are waiting for the results of the autopsy," he said. A psychiatric unit was called in to counsel the girl's friends.

Disneyland spokesman Pieter Boterman said that signs outside the Rock'n'Roller Coaster warn people susceptible to emotional shocks against taking the ride.

Well they might as well take the signs out if people never read them! "Yeah Grandpa there's no worry about your back, lets get on Space Mountain now" The grandson said whilst passing by the Warning sign.

LOL Pretty soon we will be made to sign waivers before entering the park that we understand and agree with all things stated in the contract about the rides and the safety and they are not liable for any deaths or injuries that occur on rides unless by mechanical malfunction or operator error. Because by following their instructions and safety speils we should not incur injuries or death therefore if we do it is our fault not theirs.

Either way, it's still sad that the 14-year-old girl died. You also have to think about is that maybe she never knew/thought that she had an ailment. But, no one is to know at the moment.

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,

^^ That's almost certainly the case. It usually is in these cases. Alot of time heart defects don't display any symptoms until the moment they kill you.

That is so sad, I think its worse when they die on rides for unknown causes. At first when I read it, I was some what critical of her condition, but than I thought maybe she had no idea she had any conditions that might affect her. Well, I am sure this a very hard time for the family and I hope they can find the reason of death and how it happens. Hopefully to prevent further unknown deaths in the future. After reading this post, it makes me think you may think a ride is safe, but you always have to be careful since you don't ever know what will happen.
