Toy Story Mania brings 4-D to video gaming

At Disney, vid games are along for the ride (http://hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/features/columns/playing_games/e3i2d5887633794139ac54a08625e99664d?imw= Y)

Disneyland Resort is taking video gaming 4-D next year. It will launch Toy Story Mania at California Adventure in Anaheim and Disney-MGM Studios outside Orlando, a ride that will blend "manic gameplay with a next-generation ride experience," says Tom Fitzgerald, executive vp and senior creative executive at Walt Disney Engineering.

The ride is the latest example of Walt Disney Imagineers working with Pixar Studios to bring a CGI movie experience to life and follows this week's grand opening of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland in Anaheim.

Fitzgerald, who spoke Monday during a news conference in Anaheim, said Toy Story Mania will feature a variety of video game challenges accompanied by characters from the Toy Story films, including Mr. Potato Head, who plays a carnival barker that shrinks a vehicle down to the size of a toy.

Riders will shoot virtual ammunition at targets at specified stops along the way. The guns will change ammunition from darts to colored eggs as the games change from room to room. Thanks to 3-D glasses, the riders will see the ammunition fly. Special bonus shots will unlock additional points.

(The fourth "D," by the way, refers to water, air and other effects that affect the ride experience.)

I'm glad you added in that parentheses at the bottom, since it saves me from having to make a joke about how this ride moves through time as well as space :p

Oh this is going to be awesome! Finally, Woody and the other toys get their own ride, and not Just Buzz! I hope there'll be a scoring system somewhat similar to BLAB. Can't wait to ride it!

It sound cool, but if they want to expand to video games and attrack the "Gaming" generation how about a ride for Sora and his friend.

^I'm not really sure how it would work, unless Disney brings Virtual Reality to Reality. But Having an In-Park Kingdom Hearts attraction would be awesome.

So when they say Mr. Potato Head is interactive, will he like talk back to you if you say something to him. Like if you say Hi will he say some sort of greeting back?

^ I think its more like, he tells you what to shoot at and if you hit the mark
you triger some comment or remark.

Wait, so this ride will also be in MGM-Studios.
When will it open over there?

Kind of. He will be like Crush from Turtle Talk, or Roz from the Monster's Inc. ride, or ANYONE in the Laugh Floor show. He will be CM-controlled, and can dynamically respond to the guests in the queue.

P.S. Hi All!!

I'm guessing at around the same time DCA's opens.

Kool, but I've seen the construction of it, and it's blocking the signature loop shot of Screamin'!! What's up with that?

It's dopey positioning as far as I'm concerned. That used to be a neat postcard.
