Horror of horrors! Tourists hoping to experience The Haunted Mansion at Disney's Magic Kingdom are being greeted by a "Closed for renovations" sign tacked to a locked gate. Disney plans its first major overhaul of the popular Humor-driven attraction this summer, including technology updates and a few new ghosts. The ride closed Wednesday and should reopen by mid-September.

Ride designers are promising revisions consistent with those made recently at other "classic" Magic Kingdom attractions such as the Pirates of the Caribbean ride last year and the It's a Small World ride the year before - enhancing effects without altering the story or traditional features.

"It's going to be fabulous," said show producer Kathy Rogers of Walt Disney Imagineering.

I hope they fix it up. When I was there a year ago it was in sad shape for such an important ride.

I loved that little scene about the library.

Without altering the story. Uhhhh, HELLO!!!!!!? The new POTC changes changed the story smart guy. The story is completely different with the dialogue in it. That's horrible. As for Mansion. I'm glad its getting the refurb it deserves. A+. I'll get to see it next Jan.

The only major changes are centered around the Bride and unlike Pirates the changes plus the attraction and not tamper with it. They were added to :disneyland: last year.

^Oh I know. At least there not tampering with the attraction LIKE Pirates. The article said "LIKE Pirates" the additions wont tamper or change the storyline, when in fact it DID change the storyline for Pirates.

True, Disneys Public Relations department consistintley lied to us about how they were not going to change the attracion that much. However the new effects in the :disneyland: Haunted Mansion did not change the story of the ride. only two scenes were changed Seance Circle and the Attic and they were done very well. Hopefully they will not make one of the new spirits Eddie Murphy.;)
