The moment you have all been waiting for...

Hello and Welcome to the first ever ?So, you want to be an Imagineer?? Competition here on Visions Fantastic. Applause, Applause!

As you can tell, we have moved the first project one day forward so we can get this competition under way.
The judges are excited about this competition and we hope that all the contestants feel the same way.
Now that the brief introduction to the season has been completed, and without wasting anymore time, we all wish you good luck as we ask the question?

?So, you want to be an Imagineer??

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/7002/vfimagineerdg7.th.jpg (http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vfimagineerdg7.jpg)

Project One:

You?re a rookie in your league, but you have been assigned the task of creating a brand new dining facility at one of the Disney Theme Parks Worldwide (excluding Hong Kong Disneyland?HKDL is not one of the parks you can choose). The catch though is that they are NOT looking for anything along the lines of a quick snack place (ex Conestoga Fries or Tiki Juice Bar).
They are looking for either a counter service (quick service), Casual Dining, Character Dining, or Fine Dining style restaurant for their next theme park location selling food.

Theming and Atmosphere Tie-in: Your restaurant can be themed to the land it?s in, themed to a type of movie, type of Disney Character and/or attraction it?s near. The main goal is to have it be themed to something related to Disney or the park it is in with the theme being present through the entire project. The theme must include a back story to the restaurant (how the place came to be, who owns it, why they own it, etc) and a new character for it (similar to Shrunken Ned)
Also, to get full credit, please make sure the location that the restaurant is going into actually fits into the land?s overall theme. Don?t put a movie set place themed to Tron in DAK or an Alien-themed place on Main Street, USA at DLP.

Menu Items: Please include a selection of menu items that would appear in your restaurant. Make sure they tie-in to the place?s theme.

Location: Make sure the dining location actually fits in a real location inside the theme park. If your restaurant does not fit in the location you stated it would, your point value for the location grading will be zero. This is were you can use Google Maps and Microsoft Live Maps to help you.

Requirements:

Location: 10/100
Creativity: 20/100
Menu Items: 10/100
Theming: 25/100
New Character and Back Story Info: 15/100
Detail in Presentation: 10/100
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 10/100
Total: 100/100

This is a non-elimination project.

Please remember to turn in the project to:

to send the email to the address?
simply remove the ' -at- ' and replace it with the sign ' @ '.

Im liking this so far!Got a pretty good idea...

Rachele

Can our proposals include removal of things currently in the park or changing things actually in the park now? For example, I would propose taking this stand or whatever out and putting the restaurant there. Or, I would take over this current restaurant or attraction and change it like this to fit into the new restaurant idea.

ETA: Also, we may not have knowledge or actual data on some places of the parks. How do you decide whether something would be feasible or not? (IE, we think a restaurant would fit somewhere, but you may know more about the place and know it wouldn't. Do we still get points?)

ETA (again): Well, I guess I'll just ask all the questions today. :)

For the character, does it have to be a new one, or can it be an obscure Disney character, or even a character that is just not usually seen in the parks, but is a well known one?

Rachele:

You cant take out something (do away with it or relocate it) as long as it is reasonable. If you're relocating, say a stand, and putting it in the former stand's spot, that is fine. But if you are planning on tearing down this entire structure (like a showbuilding), I would say no. You can though, use a current location of a restaurant and redesign it to the max or use any current empty showbuilding for your restaurant.

I'll give you two answers about your location question.
1) If the map you are using does not show the park clearly...that's fine, please do your best though. Remember, if one map does not show the area, try a different one. I know you cant see DLRP with Microsoft Live Maps but you can with Google.
2) If you are unsure that your restaurant will fit because of it's size...my best answer for this is to try your best. Look at the park from above, find pictures online that shows the area (or near the area) where your restaurant will be. If you think it will fit, and you can show us how it will fit, you should have no problems. We're not going to visit whatever park you chose and measure your propsed site.

About the character... we'll get back to you on that

Rachele

Thanks for the answers. My idea keeps evolving, but I figure it would be better to leave the questions up in case anyone else is wondering about the answer. I guess it's just really questioning how strict you will be with judging the different parts.

I await the answer for my character question. :)

imagineer_me
06-08-2007, 04:15 PM
Answer to charcter ? :It has to be an original character. The theme of the resturaunt must be for a land, include a back story to the restaurant (how the place came to be, who owns it, why they own it, etc) and a new character for it (similar to Shrunken Ned.)

maul2
06-08-2007, 09:52 PM
Now my problem is with the back story bit of things. So say you have your restaurant, would the backstory be like what a real lawyer might keepo about managers and owners and stuff. Or would it be fictional, as in the resauant used to belong to a tribe of cannibals but they sold it to me for 4 heads. Type stuff?

Do you get what I'm trying to get at?

DisneyParksFan
06-09-2007, 06:44 PM
Wow! I'm sorry. I remember reading the question and thinking of an answer. The problem was I forgot to post it.

The back story (history) of the restaurant can be fictional, based on characters that you created...right from your imagination. Remember to include the character you created that goes with the restaurant.

Example: If I made a snack cart in Tomorrowland (snacks carts are not a type of dining location you could choose, so there should be no problems with me giving this example), it's back story (history) could be that an alien named Skip arrived on Earth and tried a slushy for the first time. He liked them so much that he opened his own buisness, Skip's Solar Slushys, that serves ten different 'out-of-this-world' slushy flavors.
Make sure you go into a little more detail then what I did.

And yes, 'slushys' is spelled that way on purpose.

Hope that helped

Towards all contestants: Remember, school work and personal situations in life hold far more importance over the competition. If you feel that the competition is stressing you out or conflicting too much with say for example, school work, we understand. We have all (or currently are) been in that situation.

If somebody is looking to take over mickeymania1's spot, please let us know via post in this thread. Thank you.

So, you want to be an Imagineer? Project One (http://www.visionsfantastic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15576)

Project One is due Wednesday, June 20. Good Luck

We would like all projects to be original and done without the help of another member currently or formerly involved in the competition (unless otherwise stated in the rules of the current project's thread).
You are welcome to use mickeymania1's idea to base the restaurant after "A Bug's Life" as long as you do not use the ideas and concepts he created for the project.
Though, having your project theme out there can give the other contestants an advantage. Something to think about.

Anyways... 'So, you want to be an Imagineer?'

Original works and not copied from others, got it. One question, though: do the characters have to come out of your mind or can they be existing Disney characters?

The reason I was asking about character was because I was thinking of doing my restaurant in Toontown (the one at Disneyland), supposedly run by Donald Duck and another yet-to-be-named character (hence, the original character). Can I do something like that (i.e., do a restaurant with both an existing character and an original character)?

[COLOR=white]Location: Make sure the dining location actually fits in a real location inside the theme park. If your restaurant does not fit in the location you stated it would, your point value for the location grading will be zero. This is were you can use Google Maps and Microsoft Live Maps to help you.

Are you saying that the restaurant has to fit in there physically? What if we used the restaurant as part of an expansion of the land as a whole? Would that work?

DisneyParksFan
06-12-2007, 01:59 PM
As long as the restaurant actually fits into a real life location. That is the only requirement for the location section.

Anything like placing it in an expanded part of a land is up to you. If you choose to expand a land with other features including the restaurant, that expansion will also be graded under location. Just make sure that everything you create fits into an actual, real life location. If it doesn't fit...why would they want to build it?

Example of poor location placement: Expanding Tommorowland at Disneyland onto Harbor Blvd...0 points for location

Example of good location placement: Using one of the few unused areas around WDW's Tomorrowland...10 points

NOTE ABOUT GRADING:

While I was re-reading through the post, I realized that the way I described the location grading scale might be confusing to some people.
It sort of sounds like it will either be a zero or a ten for the section....that is NOT true. The section, like all sections, are given a number grade 0-10. It is possible to receive any numer between zero and ten.
Sorry about any confusion.

Here are your submissions for Project One.

We asked the questions, 'So, you want to be an Imagineer?' and we were given a response...some louder than others and thats fine. This is a check and see point where you check out the other projects and then see what you have to do for next time.
The next project will be announced shortly (meaning in a day or two).

Ok, let's hope the idea is a good one.

Do you know the old, un-used Fantasyland Skyway station at Disneyland?

Well, what if it was re-used, and turned into Victor's Alpine
Smokehouse.

The outside of the building would basicly remain the same, but the
inside
would be completely changed. Inside, it would get newly remodled to
accomodate tables and booths, and give a new, alpine atmosphere.

Before I go on, here's the story of how the restaurant came to be:

In 1932, A man by the name of Victor Von Vanderhoof attempted to ski
down
the nearby Matterhorn, but failed when he encountered what he said was
the
Abominable Snowman. Some time afterwards, he opened a nearby
smokehouse,
trying to warn all who come about the creature that lives inside the
nearby
mountain.

Ok, back to the interior.

Along with new tables and booths, a fireplace would be added. Posters
and
newspaper articles are frames on the walls, such as "Crazy Man Barely
Survives Matterhorn" and "Lunatic Says Abominable Snowman Exists".
Other
items, such as skis and snow equipment are also hung up on the walls. A
few
tables are also set outside for outdoor seating.

An extention to the back of the building would be made for an old
fashoned
style kitchen, which is viewable as guests get their food at the buffet
style counter.

Menu items:

Salads-

Smoked Chicken Salad
Grilled Chicken Ceasar Salad
Alpine House Salad

Entrees-

Smoked Baby Back Ribs (comes with a side of Steak Fries)
3 Peice Fried Chicken (comes with a side of Mashed Potatoes and
Sauerkraut)
Smoked Steak Sirloin (comes with a side of Mashed Potatoes and
Sauerkraut)
1/3 Pound Swiss Melt Hamburger (comes with a side of Steak Fries)

Desserts-

Avalanche Milkshake
Matterhorn Sundae
Abominable Iced Coffee

Kids Menu-

Chicken Fingers (comes with a side of Steak Fries)
Baby Back Ribs (comes with a side of Steak Fries)
Pizza (comes with side of Steak Fries)

All drinks are supplied by Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper, Nestle, Poland
Springs,
Budwieser, Samule Adams, Coors, and Starbucks Companies.

Location: Mickey’s Toontown, as part of a major expansion I have in
mind for the land as a whole, which will go from the dead end of the
area today and connect with the now-abandoned Festival Arena section in
Frontierland. It is in this area of the expanded that the new restaurant
will go. Here's the link to an overhead view of Toontown explaining how
it will be expanded:

http://img506.imageshack.us/my.php?image=toontownplanyd4.jpg
The yellow area represents the Toontown in existence today, while the
red area represents the expansion.
Character/Backstory: The proprietor of this restaurant is someone named
Kenneth Kodiak, an anthropomorphized Kodiak bear. He is actually an old
friend of Goofy’s long before Goofy became a star. He was born in
Canada, but raised in Southern California. His family traveled the world
because they have friends all over the world, including polar bears,
panda bears and sloth bears. Everywhere they went, they made other
friends, too. Today, he still has friends. Being that he is famous all over
the world as a world traveler, Kenneth decided to have his menu items be
famous for much of the world, so they have been. And his kinds of
curios are what are found displayed on the walls as decorations in his
restaurant (albeit done in Toon-style to fit the theme of Toontown), which
he has opened to Disneyland visitors. Kenneth Kodiak’s restaurant is
outwardly designed in the motif of a swanky Hollywood restaurant (a la
the Brown Derby), because that is precisely how Kenneth is viewed in
Southern California (at least the Toontown region of Los Angeles): as a
popular playboy. But on the inside, it looks nothing like a swanky
restaurant in SoCal. Instead, it resembles snippets of Toon versions of
ethnic restaurants, including Chinese, Mexican and Italian, whose food types
are the types served on the menu here. There are Mexican sombreros,
guitars and maracas; Chinese coolie hats, dragons and firecrackers (it’s
actually scenery from Lucky Fortune Cookery (from DCA); and Italian
scenery, too, including ancient Roman sculpture and scale models of
gondolas. Since Kenneth was a famous character all over the world, he
eventually decided to take root with (in addition to a place to live,
obviously) a restaurant and fill it with items he had collected during his
world travels.
Menu Items: International selection of full meals. This time, though,
the menu does not feature traditional burgers and fries; instead, it
will feature more exotic stuff like Chinese, Mexican (i.e., tacos,
carnitas, nachos) and Italian fares (i.e., pizza, pasta, salads, etc.). The
reason this restaurant features this is the aforementioned backstory
mentioned above.
Name: Kodiak’s Worldwide Toon Bistro

I’m sorry it’s not the best backstory in the world, but this is
just a start, since this is a non-elimination round.

Sincerely,

Big Disney Fan

Chuck?s Wagon is an outdoor casual dining (buffet) location in Frontierland. It will be built in the old Festival of Fools arena. There will be picnic tables all around with the classic red and white striped tablecloths. Servers will be dressed in cowboy gear. Along the back of the area will be a row of authentic chuck wagons. Food will be served on the wagons, fostering the illusion that all the food is actually being cooked there. Near the wagons will be a small stage. Every half hour, Chuck (the owner of Chuck?s Wagon) and some of his cowboy friends will come out and do a small show. These shows will vary. Sometimes, it will be a demonstration of how to cook on a chuck wagon. Sometimes, it will be rope tricks. In the evening, Cowboy Bill is likely to come out and sit on the stage for some storytelling or singing. Any other appropriate cowboy festivities will be showcased as well, on a rotating basis everyday. Chuck himself is an older cowboy with gray hair. His clothes and hat are worn in and he speaks with a western accent. Between shows, he mingles among the tables, entertaining the groups who are eating. Food offerings may change a bit since it is a buffet, but here is a sample of a typical menu for the day.

Jungle Feast

By Maul2

Type: Sit down, family restaurant
Themeing: An ancient building found and turned into a restaurant

Walkthrough (See Drawing for further clarification):
-The fa?ade is an ancient stone building, with carvings in the stone, and tons of ivy and plants covering it
-The entrance is a large stone arch near the left side of the building (See drawing)
-The waiting room has many plants and a giant fish tank set into the wall on the left side (think Rainforest Caf?) where there are some benches
-The entrance to the restaurant is on the right side
-The Restaurant is made up of 3 sections; the waterfall seating area, the general seating area and the ?exterior? seating area
-The Waterfall area has a small waterfall set against the wall, with a small pool and plants
-The general area is just general seating
-The ?exterior? area is a patio like place, although it is entirely enclosed by rainforest trees
-The kitchen is in the back
-The seating is made up of a mix of benches and tables

Back Story: Several thousand years ago this area was inhabited by the Icky Shaboings, a strange people with an obsession with the word ?Ni?, however a shortage of Shrubberies drove them to extinction and the great empire fell into ruins, and was buried by time. Several years ago this building was unearthed however it is the only surviving building of the Icky Shaboings. The building had been built to house the last remaining Shrubbery in hopes that they would be able to eventually use it to rescue their civilization. However, the caretaker had a sudden heart attack and the plant, obviously, died. So with the buildings purpose served the archeological society sold the building and it was turned into a restaurant.

Menu: (Unfortunatly Homework type objects prevented this section from being completed)

Location: Disneyland Resort, Adventureland, replace the Bengal BBQ and the area around it
(Unfortunatly those same Homework type objects prevented this section from getting much thought)

The Indiana Jones Dining Adventure!-Casual Dining

When you hear the name, "The Indiana Jones Dining Adventure," you may think that the adventure part is where your meal comes in. In this case, there's a twist in this particular dining adventure. To get to your dining destination, you must take a jeep through the jungles of india to get to Bankot palace, base off of the movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Interior-
Royal, and simple. Murals on the walls, and marble stone pillars and architecture. A stage for indian dancers, and indian sword twillers. All royal colors such as bergandy, white, and a deep purple.

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb121/DisneyParksFan/disneyfreak59.jpg

something extremely similar to the pictures shown.

Placement- The placement for this restaraunt will be set in the Animal Kingdom, lets face it, it would fit in perfectly between khali river rapids and expedition everest in the "indian" themed portion of the park, which is right next to asia. Khali is an indian name, Everest is in nepal, it fits like a glove! Please note, it takes the place of the upcoming yak and yeti retaraunt.

The story behind it all- As mentioned earlier, this is based off the movie, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," when the dining portion in bankot palace occurs. As my story goes on, Indy finds a way to keep tourists out of trouble, and thats to go to bankot palace to dine and soak in this unique atmosphere! He liked all the variety of food as well, and thought he'd share it with everyone else.

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb121/DisneyParksFan/untitled1-4.jpg

the outside of what i'd like the restaraunt to look like.

New Faces- A character I came up with was a new Maharajah. An older gentleman probably in his 40's. He is the one granting permission for us tourists to dine in his lovely palace. He and Indy go way back, so there was no problem having indy come over to visit, but to have the tourists for dining took quite some convincing. Although he wont tell us his name, we just call him, Maharajah.

Technicalities of the transportation-
After making reservations, you will be given your time to "catch your ride". Let?s say you have a reservation for lunch at 1:00 pm, your boarding ticket would say "show up for your ride at 12:40". In this way, you are given time to explore the restaurant, and to (if necessary) wait for a ride. The maximum waiting time for a ride will be 10 minutes (or under), and the ride itself will be approximately 6 minutes. This being the case, if you check in at 12:40, and must wait a maximum of 10 minutes for a ride, you will still arrive at the restaurant before your 1:00 reservation.

How to make a reservation-Just check in to the reservation booth right in front of the loading area for the jeeps! This is a RESERVATION ONLY restaruant because we cannot accomodate sudden tourists wanting to eat here. As soon as you make your reservation, you will receive your boarding and dining pass, which mentions the time to show up! just like a regular fastpass! it's that simple. After your name has been recorded on a computer, of course, the information autimatically transfers to the computer at the restaraunt itself so they know what's to come of reservations. It's all very simple, even a monkey can do it! An aerial drawing has been enclosed.

Vehicles- Something simple like a rugged 4wd jeep will simply do. old and brown looking of course. It will go a maximum of 20mph along a short distance, safety belts are still required. And someone to operate the vehicle.

Again i'm really sorry this was all in an e-mail my microsoftword is acting up and all i got out of it was the menu. I have attatched hte menu, and the aerial shot of this entire thing. If you have any questions concerning the project, feel free to write back and ask! i'll be more than happy to explain.

the menu and aserial shot have been enclosed! just download the attatchment! :)

Miner's Diner Restaurant
At California Adventure: Golden State - By Baksetbuddy101

Welcome to the brand new Miner Diner eating establishment. This is quite a unique restaurant because it is the only one that allows you to travel back to the time of miners hunting for gold. The theme is the California Gold Rush. The main character and host is Bill E. Miner. He is one of the miners searching for gold in the Gold Cavern Mine. After a long day of work, he decides it's about time to have himself a nice dinner. Guests of the mine are invited to come and eat dinner with him, along with a couple of his partners. After a while of waiting, guests are escorted into a mysterious cave of some sort. It's misty and sounds of animals can be heard. Anxious guests sit quietly into their seats. Then, they take a good look around. They are surrounded by a gigantic mine full of animatronic miners. Most of them are clutching tools in their hands for digging out gold. Some are sitting in a corner eating a simple meal. Little do guests know that Bill E. Miner is not only a great miner but a fantastic chef as well. The waiter is dressed in a miner's costume. Guests order their drinks. Minutes pass and a voice is heard on a PA speaker. '' Ladies and Gentleman welcome to the Miner's Diner. Today you will be dining with our very own chef, Bill E. Miner. Bill is the head chef and miner of The Gold Cavern Mine. We ask you to please remain seated. Thank you very much. Enjoy the show and your meals. Now the miners are quite tired so we ask you to keep it down while they finish their work''.

Once the guests are settled, a loud crash is heard on the bottom of the cavern. Voices are heard at the bottom. A man begins to speak. '' Wow! I found myself a nugget! What do you boys think?'' The animatronic miners look around. '' What did you say Sean? You found a nugget. My, my, my, an actual nugget? You know how hard it is just to find half of what you got there? We have been working all day long and we've only found dirt dirt and more dirt. By the way, what made that big crash?'' Guests watch as the cavern ahead of them shakes again. Another man's voice is heard. '' Yall better keep it down if you don't want us to get caved in here! What's all the noise about anyway?'' Another animatronic pokes his head out of a small tunnel. What happened? I was just trying to dig out a huge yellow colored rock from this here tunnel and here you are screaming!'' The cavern shakes again. Suddenly, the caraseen lights go out. Yet another voice is heard in the darkness. '' What is going on in my mine? Really, we can't afford another cave-in. Also, we don't want to disturb my guests of honor. They rushed over to Gold Mountain as soon as they heard about the gold rush. Well look here! Fred found a huge rock of gold. I admire your skill, Fred. We will split that golden rock between the ten of us. Hey! For all of you on the surface of the mine, I'm Bill E Miner. I own Gold Mountain Cavern and the Miner's Diner restaurant. Here you will find nothing but excellent cooking. Now before you dig in, I would like to take this opportunity to explain the history of this place. Now, the year is 1849 and I own the mountain caver. But, it wasn't always like that. Me and my partners here traveled from the East all the way to California. To explain the story much quicker, I'll sing it instead of telling it. Hey Sean! Take out your violin cause it's time for a song.''

The music begins and Bill starts to sing, ''Oh it was a heck of a time and a heck of a place where the old gold rush started,
We miners grabbed our hats and tools and then we soon departed.
The journey was long and oh boy was it rough,
We didn't have much to hold only a couple of other stuff
After what seemed like a lifetime, years if you will
We came across a mountain pass. We all stood there quite still.
We could see a long river, along with many trees,
And in the sky flew some birds up high and in a nest, a bunch of bees
And up ahead we saw it. Gleaming like a fountain.
What we saw was what would eventually become Gold Mountain.
We started working night and day to build our faithful mine,
We vowed to finish our old mine until the end of time.
All of us worked together no matter how long it took,
Us miners dug up the gold while Bill. E Miner cooked.
You might think that we would end up in an awful world of greed,
But we know better than that. Friendship is all we really need.
So now you know the story of our fantastic diner.
It was discovered and now owned by myself, Bill E. Miner!''

The music stops as the audience breaks into applause. The animatronic Bill bows and looks back at Sean. '' Hey everybody, let's not forget Sean. He found us gold too. You know, gold doesn't randomly come out of anywhere. If someone finds out, they will try to take over the mine. "Fred, where exactly did you find that gigantic block of solid gold?'' Fred pokes his head back into the tunnel. '' Well, I was digging out this cavern and then I saw a room full of dirt. Now at first, I thought I dug up the tunnel for nothing. But then I found this rock that was gleaming yellow. Almost like gold. So I took out my hammer and caved it out. Yup, this is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me. So how are we going to split this?'' Bill looks at Sean. '' Don't feel bad Sean, it's just that the block of gold is much bigger than your nugget. Tell you what, you can keep it. It's still worth plenty.'' The crew resumes their work. '' Well now, we almost forgot to introduce ourselves to our audience. Alright, I'm Bill E. Miner, and those are all my partners. Their names are Sean, Fred, Larry, Walt, Thomas, Neil, John, Leonardo, Pete, and Jules. Yup, my crew. I?ve been working with them since forever. Well your food should be ready now. Enjoy your meals. Hey all of you, get back to work. The audience digs in. The food is all delicious. Country music plays and the miners all get back to work.

-All of this is part of an establishment called the Gold Mountain Mine Company. It will be located in the Golden State district in the previous location of the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. Along with the restaurant, there is also a small gift shop located by the entrance.
This has been a project designed By Basketbuddy101.
Visions Fantastic
So you want to be an imagineer Contest

DisneyParksFan Scores and Comments

Location: 9/10
-station is not that big. I think you would need to expand out in more places than just the back area for the kitchen. Picture perfect place though and cozy in among the trees!
Creativity: 16/20
-this place sounds awesome! I just wish there a little more to your explanations. This type of place could have so many hidden gems
Theming: 22/25
-excellent theme to the place. I love how it gives off a small village atmosphere (like the rest of Fantasyland)The theming is there, but I wish you would have explained more about the items around the restaurant. The brief list of objects found in the building is fine, but it didn?t paint your picture?I had to create one for myself.
New Character/Back Story Info: 14/15
-nice name and believable, quick and to the point. Though wouldn?t building a nice restaurant encourage more people to visit the area? No big
Detail in Presentation: 1/10
-sorry, but I need more detail. It seems like you created something exciting here, but you left it as just a concept without details.
Menu Items: 10/10
-ill take the Smoked Steak Sirloin and the Matterhorn Sundae for dessert!
Interesting choice to serve alcohol
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-In: 8/10
-brilliant tie-in?but I have to assume that there?s a large window over-looking the Matterhorn. Since there really was really no explanation there, I would like to assume there is but I cant do that. The window, to me, would make the tie-in complete. I would have also liked to hear some mention to the building previous occupant, The Skyway.
Wrap-Up: Great work but, I felt like the black and white words I read painted a black and white picture in my head. Great concept, please improve in the details department next time. I understand the time factor, believe me.
Look forward to seeing your next project!

Total: 80/100

Tiki Scores and Comments

Location: 8/10-I can see the location being used, and it is a very good one for a smoke lodge, but there might be some spacing issues fitting a whole restaurant into such a tiny area, but you explained it well, good job!
Creativity: 16/20-I like the story you put into it, and overall it was a really fun use for a building that's been abandoned for far too long.
Menu Items: 10/10-All done and accounted for, good job, makes me hungry!
Theming: 24/25-I love the posters and how you tied it into the Matterhorn, it's nice to see someone connect attractions.
New Character and Back Story Info: 12/15-Would of liked some more detail. I like the idea of a man trying to warn people of the Matterhorn though, I just don't exactly get how building a steak-house would help.
Detail in Presentation: 3/10-Sorry man, but I need alot more detail then this in the future.
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 8/10-You tied it into the Matterhorn perfectly, but there was very little said about the other areas in Fantasyland.
Total: 81/100
Overall comments: Good job for the most part. I know I can be kind of tough some times, and I realize you don't really have alot of time to make these projects plus with everything else going on, but you still could of used the extra couple days to add more detail to this. You had good ideas, and I really think you made this restaurant very creative, but next time try to put more detail in and take my advice, use all the time you get.

Project One by Big Disney Fan:

DisneyParksFan Scores and Comments:

Location: 8/10
-It would have been nice if you pin pointed an actual location.
Creativity: 15/20
-I think this is exactly what Toontown needs. This is a new creative idea that can possibly keep Toontown open later into the night. The new area sounds like it could be the popular, up-scale section of Toontown. The only problem though is that it seems like you?re catering to adults instead of children. Nice idea, though not quite right for Toontown?maybe if it was more geared towards children.
Menu Items: 6/10
-not exactly clear on the dishes. I understand though what you mean about different countries and their food selections. Maybe if a popular Disney character associated with that country and its dish was mentioned? I?m afraid that with having International dishes being the main menu here, its not going to attract that many people with little kids since those kids probably wont want stuff like Chinese food. They?ll be wanting a burger.
Theming: 15/25
-what I don?t understand is the overall theme?mainly because I couldn?t find it. There was the international toon theme for the inside and the SoCal theme for the outside. I think the theme should have been unified better. The restaurant sounds like it might work, but right now it seems like a mess. You introduced a new character and a new design pattern, which is likely to confuse a great amount of people?
New Character and Backstory: 15/15
-even though I don?t really think the theme fits 100%, this new character is developed and the back story does give a strong explanation. Nice work!
Detail in presentation: 7/10
-I understand the time issue thing but I wish there was more here. I was thinking up all these brand new ideas while I was reading your project. Please include more next time?about the restaurant and the surrounding area (since you did bring it up)
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 6/10
-tricky to grade since you developed a new area and that new area wasn?t really explained. So, I will have to grade it based on the current Toontown area. I really didn?t see any other connection between this restaurant and Toontown besides the fact that they are both toon related. The restaurant does though have a SoCal Toontown Hollywood feel to it, which would tie into the Toontown sign. But, you really didn?t explain any of this.
Wrap-up: The project was ok at best; I really wish you went into further detail with your project and its new surroundings. Good luck on the next project.

Total: 72/100

Tiki Scores and Comments:

Location: 7/10-Ok, it fits, but I don't understand why you need ALL that land, it seems to me like a restaurant like this would only need a small bit, not the whole Feast of Fools arena. That area is prime realistate.

Creativity: 15/20-I do like the idea of a swanky sort of Toon in Toontown, but some of your ideas were downright confusing. Why is he serving all this foreign food? I would of liked it better if you just kept the "Toonified" Brown Derby theme throughout

Menu Items: 6/10-It seems like a fun menu, but as I said it's really confusing why such a big variety of food is being served here.

Theming: 12/25-I just don't get it. Your backstory is fine, but you could of spent more time explaining it. What I don't get is you say the inside of the Lucky Fortune Cookery resembles the inside of this restaurant, well then why is it in Toon Town in the first place?

New Character and Back Story Info: 12/15-I guess it makes sense, but I don't know, this type of character really doesn't fit in ToonTown in the first place. Sorry

Detail in Presentation: 8/100-So far this project is the most detailed, even still I would like to see more

Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 5/10-It doesn't have really any relevance at all to any existing attraction, it fits in ToonTown, but I would of liked to have seen it interact more with the existing things themselves like Goofy's house.
Total: 65/100

Comments: Truth be told, I liked this project alot more then this score can probably tell you, it's just some pretty fatal decisions that really hurt the project. Overall, however, I say you did a good job and you clearly put some effort into it. I look forward to seeing what you can do in the future

DisneyParksFan Scores and Comments:

Location: 10/10
-perfect location for this type of restaurant. The eating area can always be changed around to fit in whatever is needed at the time. Whether it?s a show or a special event in the park.
Creativity: 18/20
-you were able to find a way to make the atmosphere family friendly by creating a buffet style restaurant with tables big enough for a family. Entertainment is also a plus! You managed to pull off a dinner and a show where its easy enough for all to see and it changes throughout the day.
Menu Items: 10/10
-perfect items. They even fit in with the Frontierland theme?home on the range.
Theming: 21/25
-the theme is pretty simply. It?s a simple idea that really doesn?t require much change in the area its being put in, which is a plus for the people in charge of the budget. While reading this, I could picture the place. Nice cozy sitting area among the trees and a few wagons off to the side to get your food. Everything comes together to create a solids theme?nothing stands out. Though, it does seem like not that much will be changing from the current theme that is there. Either way?nice work!
New Character and Backstory: 15/15
-the new character was created perfectly. By explaining what he does and how he looks, you get a true feel for his personality. Backstory?makes perfect since. Its something that probably really happened back in the cowboy and gold rush days.
Detail in Presentation: 8/10
-You gave a nice explanation of everything but a little more detail would be nice next time. You could have explained the layout of the area a little better by maybe including a map.
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 10/10
-ties in perfectly to the Big Thunder Mountain theme next door as well as the Frontierland shops along the waterfront. It seems like the camping/cook-out spot for everybody, near a river?which is exactly what it is.
Wrap-Up: Great work. There was something about this project that I really liked. You were able to successfully explain every section without going off track. I hope your projects in the future continue to remain this strong.

Total: 92/100

Tiki Scores and Comments:

Location: 10/10-This is a perfect place to fit something like this, good job there.
Creativity: 13/20-Well honestly it seems a bit like the Big Thunder Bar-B-Queue, but you made it your own with some creative touches.
Menu Items: 10/10-Probably the best menu I've seen so far
Theming: 16/25-A bit lacking due to the fact that not much has changed in the area, but I found having actual new charecters come out and sing and such was a very creative touch, so nice job!
New Character and Back Story Info: 12/15-I like the idea, but the one thing that I didn't get is why is he cooking for guests now? You didn't really explain that, but other then that small detail good job.
Detail in Presentation: 7/10-It wasn't very long, but I could follow it very easily.
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 8/10-It ties perfectly with Big Thunder Mountain, but I would of liked to of seen it tie in with more of the area like the Rivers of America, but I guess that's just me nitpicking.
Total: 76/100

General comments: Wow, I'm suprised at my score when I calculated, I actually thought it was better then a "slighty-above-average" 76, I guess that's just the gradding scale. Well overall I really enjoyed the idea of a good old fashioned western buffett

DisneyParksFan Scores and Comments:

Location: 5/10
-very hazy on how it would all fit into the location, and what exactly ?the area around it? means.
Creativity: 16/20
-its creative and I think it will work fine with the current Adventureland theme. I like the idea of having a waterfall inside?that either makes the area peaceful or to come alive (depending on the time of day). I like the idea of having the patio being surrounded by tress, it keeps you locked into the area?s theme. The inside though seems like a typical seating arrangement, nothing too special.
Menu Items: 0/10
-no menu items
Theming: 20/25
-the theme does match most of Adventureland, from The Jungle Cruise to the Indiana Jones Adventure! Nice work on that part. The theme seems to welcome in adventure. I wish you would have explained more about the walls and ceilings. Are there spears in the walls with skulls near by? The fish tank is nice and so is the ivy. What is the ceiling like though? Does it have faded murals or glass windows showing the sky?
New Character and Backstory: 7/15
-maybe I missed it, but there seems to be little connection to the past and the original people that owned/operated the facility.
Detail in Presentation: 6/10
-it think too much was put into the backstory, which seems to have little to do with the current day restaurant. Next time focus more on the restaurant and its details or find a way to connect the restaurant?s details more directly to the backstory?s details. I realize you didn?t have much time.
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 10/10
-nice work. The restaurant blends into Adventureland!
Wrap-up: It was a good concept, but one that was incomplete. Hope your next project will go more smoother now that you will have a bit more time on your hands.

Tiki Scores and Comments:

Location: 5/10-That's a VERY small area, and I don't get what you mean by "surrounding land" if you mean getting rid of the shops or the River Bell Terrace. Your map, however helped me understand how this technically could fit in.
Creativity: 16/20-You seemed to borrow alot from the Rainforest Cafe, but I do think you made it your own.
Menu Items: 0/10-None presented
Theming: 20/25-Wow, you manage to pack alot of theme into a small place, good job!
New Character and Back Story Info: 5/15-Well, I like the idea of natives building a restaraunt, however the assignment was for a specific charecter, not a new tribe, so I had to mark you down.
Detail in Presentation: 6/10-There's alot of detail in your theme, but the lack of a menu or anything else makes it difficult to see.
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 8/10-This would of been a 10, because I really liked how you tied it in, however I think this restaraunt kind of changes the overall flow of Adventureland, it would of been better if you could of somehow found a way to tie it in without changing AL itself.
Total: 55/100 -Wow, now I feel like a real Grinch. I'm glad this is a non-elimination round, since you seemed to be really bogged down with homework and such. I think your idea was VERY creative, it just wasn't excecuted very well. I look forward to seeing what you think of next

DisneyParksFan Scores and Comments:

Location: 8/10
-this location can still work even though they are building another restaurant there. The jeeps can simply drive past that place onto the Indiana Jones Dining Adventure off in the distance!
Creativity: 20/20
-I like how it is going to be based on the palace. The way to get to the entrance of the restaurant is very creative...got to ?catch your ride?. I like the idea of reservations only, it?s a simple idea that makes the place run even smoother.
Menu Items: 9/10
-amazing work! Everything was detailed. You even included the Mouseketmeal! I used to get the Mickey Macaroni from whatever they used to call the kids menu years and years ago. Very Detailed?like an actual menu J My only concern though is that there?s not really a wide selection present.
Theming: 23/25
-could always go into more theming here, but the pictures do explain enough. Plus I?ve seen the movie so I can picture the entire inside!
New Character and Backstory: 13/15
-simple but very believable. You used a simple idea that works?and that works with the Indiana Jones Settings.
Detail in Presentation: 8/10
-could use more detail about the inside, but the pictures did explain most of it. That menu though?wow!
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 8/10
-takes an adventure to get there?everything in the area is adventurous. I wish there was more tie in to the Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest. Besides that, the restaurant does fit in well with the entire jungle feel.
Wrap-Up: Nice to finally see an Indiana Jones themed restaurant that actually seems exciting and true to the movies! Awesome work?continue doing what you?re doing because it works.

Tiki Scores and Comments:

Location: 8/10-I've never been to Animal Kingdom, so I'm not that familiar with the geography, but I'll take your word on it that it would fit. However I had to subtrack a couple points for the fact that yes infact a restaurant is planned to go into that area.
Creativity: 18/20-Wow, you went WAY beyond the call of duty with this one, I'm impressed. I only really wish you would of described the ride in detail for us.
Menu Items: 9/10-For a reservations only restaurant, there seems to be not a huge lot of variety, however I do think it would fit and the western vs. Indian idea of a menu is a cleaver one.
Theming: 22/25-What can I say, I love the idea. Again I only wish you would of described the ride.
New Character and Back Story Info: 10/15-The new charecter seems like kind of an afterthought, but it works well within the Indy universe.
Detail in Presentation: 9/10-Hate to sound like a broken record here, but the lack of a description of the ride is the only thing keeping this part down.
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 5/10-Never been to Animal Kingdom, so I wouldn't know how it tied in, but it seems you didn't really make an effort. I would of loved to have seen like some photographs on the walls of Indy and the Yeti, stuff like that.
Total: 81/100
Overall comments: Man, if you would of included a detailed description of the ride, this project would pretty much be perfect, but as it is, I still love the idea. It's very creative and I would love to eat there

DisneyParksFan Scores and Comments:

Location: 7/10
-this location should tie in pretty good with the Grizzly River Run down the path. Not exactly sure though if it will fit since you didn?t really mention the size of the building.
Creativity: 19/20
-I really like the idea of having a show that the people can watch before they get their food! Nice work with creating the dialogue and scenes.
Menu Items: 10/10
-the items work for the type of restaurant you deigned. The names and whimsical and match the places theme?good job.
Theming: 23/25
-there could have been more mention of the interior?s and exterior?s theme. The majority of the project seemed to be about the show. Would have definitely liked to read and understand more about how the outside appearance would look. Nice job though tying the characters in to the inside!
New Character and Back Story: 11/15
-I like the name. It?s a classic Disney-humor name. I?m not sure though why you?re invited into the mine to eat with him. Maybe its because he?s a great cook? That?s my assumption though, not a fact that you presented. The character felt too fake.
Detail in Presentation: 8/10
-the show was very detailed and so was the menu, but nothing beyond that went into great detail about the details. But the details were present, which made one understand the details. Confused yet?
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-In 7/10
-the tie-in is ok, not perfect. It really only has a tie in to the title of the land, not the atmosphere in the area. But mine shafts are generally found near the foots of mountains, so the location does work. I would like you to explain more about the location in the future
Wrap-up: Nice idea for a dinner (or lunch) and a show. Again, it seemed to be too focused on the show. I would like to see this show though, good project?and very creative at that. You were able to build up an idea from the ground.

Total: 85/100

Tiki Scores and Comments:

Location: 7/10-It might be a tight fit, but I can see it, that is a rather large area.
Creativity: 20/20-Perfect! I didn't have time to look through the whole show, BUT I am amazed at how much detail you put into it. I'd go to this restaurant just to see the AA miners
Menu Items: 9/10
Theming: 25/25-See my score for creativity.
New Character and Back Story Info: 10/15-This is the only part I really had trouble with. I couldn't really identify with your character.
Detail in Presentation: 10/10-And then some!
Area?s Atmosphere Tie-in: 5/10-Besides the obvious placement in the land, you didnt' really mention alot about how the restaurant could be part of the recretation area.
Total: 86/100

Overall comments: Well first off I'd like to say I'm sorry I didn't add as many comments to yours as the others, I'm in a bit of a rush to get these scores in. Secondly, I have to say this is the project I enjoyed the most. The detail was really amazing and I think you have established yourself as a frontrunner in this competition, it's very clear you want to be an Imagineer!

***Remember...this was a non-elimination round***

Good Luck with the next project...the first elimination round. All details will be explained in the Second Project Thread which will be posted sometime within the next few days.

Sorry to say, but imagineer_me will not be taking part in the judging process. Some personal situations have come up that will effect his ability to help run the competiiton as well as to judge it.
If there is any way possible, we have asked him to come back on as a guest judge from time to time.

Crap...I knew I should have taken more time to use RCT3 or draw pictures or something.

Oh well, one must learn from their mistakes, so I guess I know what to do next time.

Thanks for the comments guys. But last day of school was today, So I will have a ton of free time to devote to this now. Although for the backstory, i thought you supposed to tell the history of the building and how it came to be a restaurant, whish is what I did?, but still it was done in about 30 secs, so it coulda been better, but what morew could I have added for the present building; it was deemed useless and sold to a corporation and turned into a restaurant.

The location, okay i'll give you that one, Where I would have really liked to hav put is on the current Tikiroom location or thereabouts, right at the entrance to Adventureland. But I didn't think we were allowed to demolish current places.

The area around was supposed to mean break into a couple of the shops on the side and build into there. With the "Rainforest cafe" thing. I'd only ever been in the lobby area at the one in DLR and I loved the fish tank so much I added it, but I had no idea what the actually restauant looked like so , if it's to similar, I apologize.

As I final statement. I am hurt deeply, that not a single judge commented on my Blatant reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Thanks, can't wait for the next one.

I dont think I ever 'promised'.

Anyways, the project will be up asap. We are having some difficulties with getting everything together.

No offense, but I think you said, "I'll explain when the second project is announced either today or early tomorrow :)" To me, at least, that is a promise, particularly when you mentioned specifically when it would happen.

Sorry if I accidentally hurt your feelings. I'm just trying to remind you, that's all. What are you having trouble with, anyway?

I'm gonna have to go with BDF on this one. You did say it would be up today, and to tell the truth it's getting kinda frustrating, cause I want to start on it.

Go ahead, maul2. I want to get crackin', too. I hope it's a new attraction this time or even a land, but not a restaurant.

I know how you guys are feeling.
I was told I would have the second project by now. imagineer_me was in charge of designing the second project. I was giving him a chance to send it to me but I guess if I dont have it by tomorrow, I'll post something of my own.
I think you have to understand though that there will be a few bumps in the road. Afterall, this is the first time we are holding this type of competition here on Visions Fantastic.

yeah, but we should still be patient, and just be ready for anything they throw at us! i think its nice to include imagineer_me in this since he cant judge anymore.
