I like the wand but I have never seen Spaceship Earth without it. It will be nice to see SSE without it.;)

The only place i find this is in the forums at LaughingPlace.com, and they don't site their sources. We'll be moving over to The Rumor Mill untill the wand comes down.

There's also a thread about it on MiceChat here (http://www.micechat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66409) but they don't really cite sources either so... *shrug*

Are you sure you're not just making this up? I heard rumors of this for a while now. I'll believe things only when I see 'em.

There haven't been any sources about this cited at all except the "my friend who's a CM said _____" type.

Maybe we should start the "My friend who's a CM said ______" thread and have fun filling in the blanks? :p

^Really? What sources did you hear this from?
The one I heard was from micechat. I think this ones for real because it sounds credible and I think there is too much evidence to suggest its coming down. But I dont really know for sure. If it is true maybe they can sell the Wand to Universal so they could put it in the upcoming Harry Potter park. Just kidding.

^Good thing you were kidding. Disney would never sell something to their rivals. *anime sweatdrop* Okay, back to the wand discussion. I believe that micechat is a good source, so we can say now the wand is officially coming down.

Read this article. It says that wand is to come down, but it is not direct from Disney, so they might not know for sure.

Screamscape is good, but be sure to check his sources on it...
He leaves them unnamed. Unnofficial blogs and websites can easily retract inaccurate rumors posted as fact.
That said, I've dug around for information from an 'official' media source and found nuthin'. This should stay right where it is for now- the rumor mill.

The final budget for the Wand removal has been approved accoarding to Kevin Yee at Miceage. So its Official.

Umm...I wouldn't say that. Kevin Yee does not work for Disney, nor does he speak for them on any official basis.

It is not just Kevin who is saying this. It is true. The removal of the wand was depending on the budget approval.

It might very well be 'true', but it's still a rumor until Disney at least acknowledges it, or the wand actually comes down. There have been numerous things thought to be 'true' that didn't end up actually happening, such as the Star Tours Pod Racer.

I went to Epcot recently and took my video camera with me. I pointed it to Spaceship Earth and said, "Take a good look at that wand, because you'll never see it again." I'm glad I did.

The Orlando Sentinel has some intersting photos (http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/features_orlando/2007/07/no-more-ot-at-e.html) of the Wand being dismantled.

yeah I gotta agree with the consensus cause I mean really its more about whats on the INSIDE than whats on the outside. I mean yeah ok SSE is one of the 4 park "icons" but does it really need a huge finger pointing to it saying look at me Im a huge metallic sphere?? Nahhh its kinda impossible to miss and if you dont know by that point you are in Epcot, you never will. Dont see MGM on the Mickey hat or Magic Kingdom written on the side of Cinderellas castle do ya? The wand was never scheduled to be permanent. They just kept extending its stay after Milennium Celebration was over.

PeoplemoverMatt
07-11-2007, 11:43 PM
I still don't understand what the big deal is. You'd think the wand had caused the Earth to rotate backwards or something, and now with the wand gone, the Earth can finally get back to normal. Sheesh.

Everyone is entitled to express their opinions, thats kinda the purpose to having forums isnt it? I am seeing posts that are still going after months or years. I agree its no big deal, but just let people express and let it go. Not really the kinda thing to get that upset over.

if only they were replacing the wand with something pirates related, then it would surely warrant 50 pages with the same useless banter repeatedly like all the other threads.

for many people the wand was wdw's version of the giant chicken head, only permanent. people have whined about wanting it gone for the years its been there and now that it's gone people will only shift focus to whining more about the hat at mgm studios. but people are exuberant over something and expressing themselves. if you don't want to hear about it, it's really not that hard to avoid this one single thread that you know it's going to be in. there's a big wdw internet community out there and this board is getting one of the smallest turnouts of people talking about it. it's really not imposing on your VF viewing experience in any way.

personally i'm interested in how much siemens played a part in telling wdw to get rid of it. wdw was pretty much playing right into their stereotype of letting stuff sit and age because they don't feel like spending the money to remove it, and all rumors point to siemens telling them that unless they plan on putting a big giant siemens sign across it, they better get that wand off their park icon they just paid to redo.

PeoplemoverMatt

^ You sound like Siemens now owns Spaceship Earth...that's not how ride sponsorships work. Sure they paid money, but ultimately it's WDI and the leaders of WDW that decide what changes are made where. Now if WDW management bows to every whim of their new sponsor, that's their choice. But most of the time, a ride's sponsor isn't directly involved with an attraction like Siemens apparently is with Spaceship Earth. Either way, I find it really laughable to think the wand is coming down because Siemens made them do it.

So does this mean we have to hear from people who are now complaining that the wand is gone?

Anyways, like Space said...its done and over with. Things are always changing with theme parks, thats the nature of it. Its just interesting though that people kept bashing the wand even though it was already announced that they were taking it off of Spaceship Earth.
I really had no problem with it. It wasnt something that would personally effect my visit to Epcot. I would see it maybe a few times during my visit, no big deal...no stress was created because of it.

So how about that new upcoming Spaceship Earth?

There's a thread right here (http://www.visionsfantastic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15466) about the new spaceship earth, it's been there since june 2nd but there are only 6 posts in it. If you don't want to hear about the wand, you're in a thread titled "It's official: the wand is coming down" It's purpose was pretty much to keep all the wand talk/spam away from the new ride thread.

Oh. I want the wand back! :(, I miss it already. I looked at the pictures that Alex_Toto_Disneyland found and looking at the 2nd one made me sad. Back to past. But I remember my first time at WDW and we went on TOT and I just remember seeing that big ball that was Epcot and thinking how cool. While I totally freaked out I had enough to think how cool that ball looked. Pretty amazing if I must say myself. But anyways, it looks so lonely, like what is that huge I don't know what you would call thing is, Its looks great because your like oh okay Epcot that is what the ball represents. I think it makes it one. Oh well, fun stuff while it lasted! Long Live the EPCOT WAND! :)
