Hello and welcome.

I assume that if you are reading this thread, you are not only interested in Disney Theme Parks but you are also interested in imagining and engineering your own Disney-styled projects…thus being interested in the art of Imagineering.

This is where we ask the question… “So, you want to be an Imagineer?”

Well here is your chance, or at least as close as you can get!

Here, on :vf: , we are looking for the Imagineer in all of you. We are asking everybody and anybody that is interested in Imagineering and creating projects (such as attractions, restaurants, etc…) to keep reading and then to hopefully sign up below.

What exactly is this?

This is a competition where the contestants are given a project (generally a new project weekly or bi-weekly) and then asked to complete it and then turn it in on the given due date to be judged.

Note: This competition will for the most part take place over the summer and possibly into the beginning of September. If you feel like you can not compete because of time issues, please do not sign up.
Some projects can be demanding while others are more laid back, it all depends on the contestant.

Judges for your competition:

Your judges for this competition are DisneyParksFan, imagineer_me, and tiki. Each project is asked to be turned in to the email provided:

soyouwanttobeanimagineer-at-yahoo.com

to send the email to the address, simply remove the ' -at- ' and replace it with the sign ' @ '.

Competition Details:

From there, each judge will read the contestants project and then grade it.
The grading scale is based on a number scale of usually 0-100. The point scale does very from project to project, please see current project for its grading scale.
Along with grading with a point system, the judges are asked to give a short amount of critique, either good and/or bad. There is no set limit to the amount of critique a judge is asked to give nor always will all contestants receive the equal amount of critique.

***Please send in the projects on the due date only. If the project needs to be turned in earlier, please contact a judge for information. Late projects will result in a loss of points (amount of points lost varies from project to project). All late projects must still be turned in to the email provided. Please do not post early, on time, or late projects in the thread and please do not send them via pm to one or all of the judges***

After each project is read and graded, one of the judges will post the project in the current project thread for all VF members to read. Along with the projects are their point values (i.e. 90/100).

After each project is completed, at least one contestant will leave the competition. This pattern will continue until there is one winner.

Because this is the first time this competition is being held on this site, the first round will be a non-elimination round.

“So, you want to be an Imagineer?” Competition sign ups have officially begun. If interested, please post below.
Sign ups will last through June 6th

Remember…the more contestants, the more fun this will be!

If you have any questions, please ask away in this thread or send them to DisneyParksFan or imagineer_me.

:castle:

I've got plans for the summer too, but the longest trip is only a week, so you know what:

Count me in!

hey all, I'm new to VF, but I was the one who invented this concept in the first place as "The Imagineer" on MouseTimes. It started as an indipendent game in the trivia section but it's grown to a full blown competition on the site. I'm very proud to see the concept grow to other sites and I'm happy to step aboard as a judge :)

Okay so far we have CostaFreak!

Well, count me in. I'm basically a hermit in the summer, except for maybe a week, so this will be a fun distraction.

ImagineerMe and DisneyParksFan and Tiki. Can you guys enter to? cause if your judging...

Anyway, should be fun

^ Welcome to the game maul2.

No we will not be competing in the contest. We will be judges only.

As you can see, the email is blocked above in the main post.

We still want the projects to be submitted to the email address, not through posting or private messaging.
Having it sent to to the email address will make it much easier for the judges to read through the projects.

the email address is:

soyouwanttobeanimagineer-at-yahoo.com

to send the email to the address, simply remove the ' -at- ' and replace it with the sign ' @ '.

Thank you,

Will there be another competition like this next year? Maybe I can sign up then.

It's difficult to say right now.

This is the first time we are doing this style of competition here on Visions. If this year turns out to be a success by some means, we would probably bring it back next year.
If it doesn't go so well, it may or may not return. It all depends mainly on how this year goes.

Sorry you cant be a part of the competition.

^ Sure. Welcome aboard.

Just four more days for signing up everyone. Please sign up. It's gonna be lots of fun!

three members so far, if we could get more then four that'd be great, we did a season of The Imagineer with MouseTimes and it was 4 members and it was alot of fun. If you guys don't get more then like 6 people I reccomend you do three projects, combine all the scores, and then eliminate the lowest scoring, that way we could space the game out more and have more projects :)

DisneyParksFan
06-03-2007, 12:58 PM
Ok, that's a possible idea.
I'm shooting for at least 6 people, hopefully a few more sign up.

^ Welcome!

Okay so that's four people...at least two more of you want to sign up? Please do it's going to be lots of fun.

First Project starts on Friday! Look for the new thread, then!

I would love to do it!

But... do you have to be a computer geek? Because I'm not really good with making 3d art on the computer, or using any programs on my computer! I'm good at drawing though!

Well, if computer skills are optional, count me in!

tiki
06-05-2007, 05:28 PM
No, basically all I did to win The Imagineer was do a bunch of (kind of bad looking) pictures on Paint when the time called for it, but you don't even have to do that, there should be some images, but if you can use Paint you can probably get by on a competition like this
(Although I'm not sure if you guys have changed the rules or not in that respect)

maul2
06-05-2007, 07:05 PM
Well all I have for art type programs is photoshop, paint and good ol' fashioned pencil, paper and scanner. And let's not forget imagination, Lot's of imagination.

I really can't wait!!!!!!

CostaFreak
06-05-2007, 07:07 PM
Yea, I'll either do it on paper or RCT3.

Bring it on!!!

This sounds like its going to be one interesting and fun competition!

To clear up the questions about visuals...

When turning in the project, all that is required for the contestant to do is to type up your project using Word Document. Though, some people (which might include the judges!) feel that just words aren't able to tell another your exact thoughts and ideas. That is where you have the option to create pictures, images, models, etc.
As along as it gets the point a crossed, you can use it.
What works best....

Paint
Free Hand, then using a scanner
RCT 1, 2 and/or 3 (or a similar gaming program)
Photoshop
Any type of 3D model-making program. If interested, you can get a version of Sketchup for free. Sketchup is owned by Google
Pictures from the park
Satellite images (Google Maps or Microsoft Live Maps)All the above can, but do not have to be used.
Remember, if your ideas are difficult to understand, try creating some images. Plus, it makes the project more interesting to read :)

Project One will be posted Friday around the middle of the day

Welcome to the game mermaid hair!

I'm very excited to get the game underway soon! And I'm excited that you guys are excited! :D

Signups end...tonight! If you're thinking about signing up make sure you make that decision soon! It would be real cool if at least one or two more people signed up.

As DPF said 1st project is coming on Friday...look for the new thread then!

oops. I didn't realize we had to do stuff like that. I'm not handy with computer tools so I guess that'll be pretty hard for me.

tiki
06-06-2007, 11:34 AM
You don't HAVE to use any of that :) If you can say what you want to say with just words, then you'll do fine

CostaFreak
06-06-2007, 12:07 PM
I wonder, if at one point we end up in a part of the competition where we have to make ideas for rides or parks, am I able to use some ideas I've already posted on the boards a long time ago.

NOTE: After a discussion, we would like all projects to be new ideas, not coming from past posts on this site. It would be far easier to recycle ideas then it is to create a new idea...which would be unfair to some contestants. We would all like to read something new, not a refurbished idea from another post. Sorry about the change, we hope you all understand.

The 'Detail Factor' just comes down to is it enough for somebody to understand...somebody who cant read your mind (which is everybody, except psychics...?)?

It's always nice to read something new

NOTE: Change in schedule....

So You Want to Be an Imagineer?, will officially start tomorrow with the first project coming out tomorrow morning rather then on Friday.

Alright, 5 members should lead to a fun competition. Only thing is, I reccomend doing 2 or 3 non-elimination rounds to space the game out, I mean 4 rounds really isn't all that many at all

imagineer_me
06-06-2007, 05:00 PM
There will be 6 projects and the first one will be a non-elimination round. The rest will be.

WHAT!!!

Now I regret posting those ideas in the first place. But what I meant is if any of those ideas belonged to me and was not stolen from anyone else, yet I posted them on the boards a while ago, can I still use them since they were ideas of mine in the first place?

Big Disney Fan
06-06-2007, 07:03 PM
Well, then, I guess I wouldn't like the contest anyway, seeing as how you reject reusing ideas from the past... unless of course they include your own.

Count me in. Iv'e been waiting for this for a pretty long time. I am definitely going to try to win this. I may not have fancy Photoshop or Rct3, but I have my personal ideas and that should be enough. By the way, I'm a pretty good drawer . But, I'm a better writer. I'm in.

imagineer_me

^ Welcome to the game Basketbuddy! So now we have six! And I guess that you'll be the last one to sign up but you never know....

All projects must be original. You can BASE your project off of an idea that you've had earlier but not post the exact same one! It's only going to help YOU grow in your Imagineering skills. What would be the challenge of seeing the project assignment, and posting an idea you've already had? It'd be no fun anyways. We hope you understand our thinking behind that but if you still feel strongly about it we could talk about changing some things.

Also, the first project may be a bit late tomorrow as me and DPF are trying to sort out some last minute details for the game. Rules and procedures are could change at any time for the same reason.

We're excited to get this game rolling!

do you have to do anything else or is that it?

The new thread should come sometime today...we just are sorting out some really last minute details.
