After the credits they showed Elizabeth with a young boy (assumimg he being her son with Will) waiting at the oceanside at sunset. A greenlight flashes and then the Flying Dutchman appears with Will returning after 10 years.

Dick Cook (head of Disney studios) told us at the Pirates Red Carpet that if this 3rd movie proved successful, he'd like to see a 4th movie. I'd say that even though box office has not matched the 2nd movie (which by all accounts did WAY better than anyone expected or even hoped for), well more than $160million it's first weekend would still qualify it as "successful". I think there's a good chance (and a good audience appetite) for the 4th one.

I personally doubt that we'll see Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann come back, other than perhaps a short cameo roll. (although Keira Knightly has announced that she plans on retiring from acting at the age of 22, so even that's doubtful) I certainly doubt we'd see Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) or Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris) again!

I think a pairing of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush with a couple of new actors would freshen the franchise. Perhaps a real love interest for Captain Jack?

I wish I'd thought to ask the screenwriters where they'd like to take the characters next, or what characters they'd like to take!

As mentioned in another At World's End thread, there originally was a scene describing that if the woman (Elizabeth) stayed faithful to her man (Will), then after ten years he would be able stay on land permanantly. However, the scene was during the editing process. The reason Davey Jones was not able to do so was simply because Tia Dalma never stayed truthful after their blow up (if you remember the second movie in her first scene, Jack implies he had a little fling with her) and of course Jones never forgave her for whatever the reason was that they broke up/ didn't last.

^I heard that as well, stated by the writers if I remember correctly. If this is true, it would make the ending much happier and more complete, allowing Will to come live with his family. Wasn't it also stated somewhere that if AWE was successful then the 2nd phase of Pirate's Lair on TSI would be approved?

According to rumor, it's replacing the fort with a Port Royale style garrison (although right now they're calling it a "stockade") and a few other touches here and there to to complete the re-theming from Mark Twain's Missouri to a Pirate landbase... and re-naming the island. Nobody is on board for the fourth yet, but in interviews Johnny Depp has said he love playing Jack Sparrow that he would love to be in a fourth movie. So who knows, it could be about the fountain of youth or something even more othherwordly.

I really hope they can just leave these films alone for now. Three is a good solid number in my opinion, and it all wrapped up rather nicely.

Holy cow! Another Pirate movie? And I thought the third one is the finale! But, it's a great movie. I think we have one of the best Disney films so far this year.

Like: Bridge To Terabithia, Meet the Robinsons(Surprisingly good.), and The Pirates of the Carribean 3.

Just saw it so came here to see what you all had to say (didn't want the spoilers ahead of time). Rush was dynamite, Bloom was sensational (yeah, he's cute but his acting was sensational this time) and the story was terrific. Have to admit, though, that I'm still wondering why they brought in all the other pirates since they seemed a little trivial to the story, but hey - the Singapore and Shipwreck Island artwork was worth the time. Anyway, I loved how this movie truly finishes the trilogy while still leaving the doors open for more if "we" want it. Thanks for sharing re: Elizabeth and Will being together after the ten years. I'm a credit watcher (and was rewarded in the last two) so sat through last night's sadly hopeful for something to make their ending a little happier. I got it but it was not quite as happy as I'd hoped. And they never made clear just what all the betrayal stories were about. With your explanations, it all makes more sense. By leaving out the explanations now, if there is a 4th (I'll put a dollar on it) and Bloom and Knightley want out, then the explanations can be made. OR, the door is open to bring Will back in another ten years to have an adventure with his -then- 19-year-old son OR Jack and Barbosa can collect the lad OR ???

But I still think Will and Elizabeth one last Harruah!(i think thats how you spell it) But I think at least they are making a 4th one, from that article it would be cool to learn more about Capt. Jack and such. But I still really think they need at least a cameo, so they are still in it but not with the adventure? What do you think Disneyladnfan#1?

^ Well I think it would be a good story if they had a small Elizabeth and Will subplot because in the third film they almost spent the whole movie being mad at eachother.
For me and some fans of the pirates movies they would have to put Will and Elizabeth and Will in the movie.
If they don't they might lose a huge fan base.
So that's just my opinion.

If they do decide to go through with a 4th installment, I really hope they take their time with the script. Both my film teacher and myself thought the movie was good, but felt they could have gotten more creative but were being pressed for time so they just put together whatever they thought sounded cool. However, I do realize some key parts of the movie were edited out to cut the time. Let's hope that if a 4th is in the making, they do a better job of editing.
