View Full Version : Audience Response to the Disney Logo

Last year's Pirates movie (Dead Man's Chest) debuted a new and touching logo representing Walt Disney Pictures :castle: .

Tonight's premiere of "At World's End" again had the logo prefacing the movie.

I say this because it has been roughly one year since the logo arrived and I've never been with a bigger movie-going audience unless the Pirates are involved. So obviously the theater of 500 seats is sold out.

It is such a moving moment when that shot is brought back from that pink painted sky to reveal the flag high atop the majestic castle :castle: .

The orchestra and scenery is incredible. It is the greatest 32 seconds of any Disney movie. It always makes me shed a tear.

Tonight was no different. As the logo appeared and the music got louder, people cheered wildly. Even beginning a "DISNEY! DISNEY! DISNEY!" chant until the first scene appeared.

I am so pleased that I view movies with people like this each year. I don't pick the 500 patrons, I just sit with them and hope they don't leave their cell phones on, kick my seat or stand up in front of me.

But these people have, respectfully, each time Pirates have premiered, chanted, cheered, hollered and applauded.

Am I just really fortunate to be with all of these people that know what a treasure the Walt Disney brand is? Or do folks do this in your theater as well?

It's to the point where people seem to know that when they see that logo, greatness is certainly to follow.

I'm interested to hear from others how other people have responded to the new logo since it debuted and continues to play before movies or previews.

I loved it the firsttime I saw it. It is just such a beautiful shot of all of it. Even the little train going by, lol

I love the new logo. Gives me goosebumps every time :]

Unfortunately, people sitting in the theater with me couldn't care less. At the 8:00 showing there was chatter clear through the opening title (a good couple of minutes into the movie). Some didn't even stop until I told them to please be quiet and watch the movie, or take their conversation to the lobby.

Just an example of the people didn't even care about the movie... they were just there to say they were there :[

The 11:30 showing, brought out a much more respectful crowd [not to mention fun]! Which seems odd to me... considering most of the people in the 8:00 were adults and most of the people in the 11:30 were teens.

I think people, at the sight of the logo, were more excited that the movie was actually going to start & all those previews were over.

I like the new logo but I feel that the fantasyland kingdom surrounding the castle belongs more to other companies' creations than disney.. Watching it reminds me of polar express and harry potter right off the bat with the magical feeling going into a train shot, and then the rolling hills of the kingdom it just doesn't feel like anything I've actually seen in a Disney film. Even kingdom hearts sets them up as different worlds, not some giant magical kingdom world the sprawls forever through the archway of the castle.

Well they did the same thing when the movie scene opened, when Jack Sparrow arrived, when Orlando Bloom was first cut to...etc. But the cheer was respectful for the logo. More whistling and yelling for the rest.

Believe me, there were definite differences in reactions.

We'll never really know for sure. Only way too know for sure would be to have the same crowd in the same theatre see the old logo instead of the new one, and judge reaction. Oh well.

It's Awesome, from the Second Star To THe Right, The Train, The Village, The Fireworks, Disney Family Flag, Castle, and the music :castle:

I LOVE watching the logo on the DVD's... but I got absolutely goose-bumpled and a little awe-struck watching it on the big screen with the orchestra and everything. I think it's the best movie company logo intro out there.

I'd pay a couple bucks just to watch the thing a couple times over and over again all by itself!

Like A_T_D said in the post right above this one, the sequence is just awesome (another word I don't use lightly).

I noticed yesterday that there is a boat in the water, ( but I forgot if it was a Pirate ship of a paddle wheeler) So, If it was a Pirate ship, would it be paying tribute to Peter Pan? (It did not look like the POTC ships) or if it was a paddle wheeler, was it a tribute to the Mark Twain?
I should watch it again to see which it was.

Everytime I watch the new logo it tells me I need to get back to Disneyland. Best logo Disney has ever used. Pirates 2 Dead Man's Chest first movie to ever use it. They also had it on Santa Clause 3.

It's way-y-y-y beyond what any other movie company uses... as it should be.

I was disappointed that they didn't use it for "Ratatouille"... I wonder how why they used it for "Meet The Robinsons" when they don't for "Ratatouille"?

Hmm.. Maybe because usually Pixar films have their own unique music as soon as the Disney logo shows up. A change in song in the new CG version probably wasn't very fitting.. Maybe?

I believe they're trying to keep the Walt Disney Pictures brand and the Disney*Pixar brand seperate. To do this would keep the Pixar name alive since it has such recognition, despite Disney owning Pixar.

I got to see it before they debuted that logo because my mom's friend works at the studios. I think it is a great advance from the previous ones....
But me- I'm a little old fashioned. I prefer the older versions just cause of the authenticity... brings me back to my not-so-long-ago childhood. :D

I really like the new logo animation. It gives you the sense of Disney magic because it is magical.

That's hilarious, you made me laugh.....LOL I agree it is a nice change. I have enjoyed all the logos but this one was a movie unto itself. Nice to see the company moving into quality again.Applause, Applause!
