I've been told that way back when, Disney wanted to build a second park where Long Beach is at. More accurately, where the Queen Mary is now, I think. Walt wanted to redo the freeways to ease traffic, and prevent bad congestion, he had something planned to get you from DLR to this other disney park. But the city got too greedy, a nd Walt canceled it..

What are your opinions on this? By the way, you may not find this on very many reading materials, if at all.

Yes, that is true. Before they came up with WestCOT, they wanted to make Port Disney, which would have included a DisneySea, a few hotels, and a monorial line to the main DLR area. It was later scrapped though.

I made an idea myself a while ago to make a Port Disney on Seal Beach (with originality), which would believe it or not work way better than the old idea.

BTW, you can always PM a mod to change the title of the thread.

"Way back when" is really the early 90's, and Walt had long since passed, so he had absolutely nothing to do with it. He barely had anything to do with Epcot in Florida, let alone Disney/MGM studios or anything that happened after that time. Disney OWNED the Queen Mary and Howard Hughe's Spruce Goose and was trying to incorporate them into the theme park plan as well.

I suggest you google "Disney" and "Long Beach" and see what you come up with regarding history.

BTW- Walt had nothing to do with the proposed "Disney's America" in Virginia, either.

*nod* Yup, I agree. My father has told me about it recently, and it indeed was the 90's. :icon_redf

It would have been so cool, though.

And thanks for changing the thread title, DaddyB. :)

It came very close but the city of Long Beach wasn't satisfied with the environmental impact reports, etc.

Went through a few votes and didn't pass. It's sad because the area down near the Queen Mary is awesome. It's sad that not many patronize down there much. Go on the Ghost Tour!!!

yes Disney did at one time own the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose but sold them off, and evidence off disney's ownership is still there to this day. LOL The trash cans on the Queen mary are the same ones you see in Disneyland. LOL

Good to know, Ex.

I (personally) think that the idea for DisneySea in Long Beach is gone...

It was gone a long time ago when they decided to sell and leave Long Beach LOL. The queen Mary and the Spruce Goose was costing them way too much money. Kinda a money pit for them, so it was better to cut their losses than to keep losing.

That would've been so cool. could the monerail actually travel all that way to long beach?

There were NO plans by Disney for travel back and forth between the two parks. No freeway plans, no monorail, nothing. It was outside of their scope of responsibility. WAY outside.
