Just got back from a WDW trip and I'm truly dissapointed. The Haunted Mansion is in ruins..so much that I didn't even feel like riding it more than twice like i normally do. As you all know it hasn't been updated since it opened with WDW in 1971 and if you compared the operation of the Disney World ride to the one in Disneyland ..you'd be blown away. I feel sorry for people who have just experienced the ride for the 1st time and left with an impression of "blah" that really sucked. I hope something spectacular comes out of the summertime refurb, becuz boy does it need it bad.

For example in the WDW mansion..

Changing portrait in the foyer is broken, Master Gracey does not illuminate at all.

Streching room audio volume extremley low.

Ghost host audio that comes out of your Doombuggy speaker is crackeling, missing parts, and volume too low.

The corridor of doors is not coming "alive" anymore. No moving or bulging doors, no cold chills from AC vent.

Madame Leota's head is extremely blurry and off center.

Sequences in the graveyard aren't working properly along with missing audio clips, especially the singing busts. The care taker and his dog frozen stiff, no movement or audio. Graveyard band is not working 100%, some AA's are not moving or playing music.

..just to name a few.

I really take notice to every detail in the mansion because it's my favorite, and freinds think i'm totally nuts lol.

I dunno what others have to say about it's current condition, but this is what I experienced and it wasn't good.

All of the problems will be fixed with the upcoming refurb.;)

YAY! My friend Caleb is in Florida right now, and I think he's also going to WDW as well as playing golf in Flordia. If he rides the HM, he'll say it sucks alot!

yeah, I understand it could fall apart in about a year, but I didn't notice anything wrong with WDW's. But, it was my first ride on either HM ever.

I was there a month ago, I thought it was fine and just like I remember. I rode it twice.
But maybe that's because I haven't been to the one at DL for over 10 years and can't really tell the difference between them :p

But it's gonna be cool to see a refurb!

An acquaintence of mine made the same comment about the poor condition of WDW HM after his visit in February. Hopefully, the refurb at WDW HM will bring it up to par with DL HM. I've heard all sorts of rumors about what will or will not actually be accomplished with the WDW HM refurb, I'm hoping they do it up right.

I'll get to compare pre and post refurb WDW HM since I'll be at WDW May 25-28, 2007 and again Dec. 1-11, 2007.

It had a minor refurbish in December. Mostly to fix the lighting. It was closed for about five days.

The pop-up ghosts have been removed from the Attic to make room for the new effects.;)
Update: The Mansion is now closed for refurbishment. Master Gracey left a message at the front gate

There are still Pop-up Ghosts in the Graveyard scene. So some of them will still be there. The ones in the Attic are being removed to bring in new effects to compliment the new Bride.;)

Anyone have anymore confirmed news of whats currently going on inside the WDW mansion???

It's been confirmed that WDW's Haunted Mansion is getting upgraded versions of Disneyland's floating Leota head and the new Bride. In addition will be a new scene to take the place of the Spiders at the beginning.

The whole old spider scene will be gutted for a new scene similar to the endless hallway but will involve an elaborate series of staircases going all over the place. Here is a pic of the model.

Looks like WDW may have the best Haunted Mansion from the refurbishment.

i'm glad to see WDW management finally addressing their mansion's many problems. the attraction needs refurbishment.

I just came back from WDW last week, and the Magic Kingdom at face value may look better than Disneyland, but underneath its skin it so messed up. Management ignores many rides that need refurbishment. On Carousel of Progress I could hear the squeaks of the AAs. Country Bear Jamboree was HORRIBLE! I felt like I wasn't even in Disney, like I was in Lester's Possum Park from A Goofy Movie. Henry's eye kept twitching like he was having a seizure.

The thing that's the most frustrating is that you would NEVER see that in Disneyland. Even the park itself is so much cleaner that Magic Kingdom. DL's management really makes the park shine.

See, normally Id be quick to defend WDW here but from everything I've seen and read here including the great photo updates, Disneyland pays a greater eye to detail than WDW. I totally agree that MK needs some touching up but from what I hear they are finally addressing all of this in bits and pieces. Next big step to me would be to update SM

Another effect I just found out that they were adding is somthing they called "The Shadow Effect" its where you will now see shadows in the corner of your eye and hear voices, its creepy but will be very good.

Sounds good.
Does anyone know if the plans for the catacomb style Haunted Mansion gift shop were layed to rest or what???
I hope they keep the original Madame Leota projection and not replace it with her real life daughter's (Kim Irvine) face from DL HMH. According to a source it could be a possiblity. :(
Also does anyone know why the Imagineers felt it was necessary to remove certain classic lines from the ghost host narration, like "perhaps Madame Leota can establish contact, she has a remarkable head for materializing the disembodied."

WDW will once again have an attraction that is better than its counterpart in Disneyland. That is very rare these days.
I cant wait to see how its going to turn out.

LOL.. and whats the "other better attraction?" I'll give you Big Thunder, and that's it. As far as what I've ridden, IMO, I have yet to ride something there that is what is considered "better" than ours. Space Mountain, better, splash mountain, better, almost all of DL's darkrides, better, Buzz, better, jungle cruise, better, star tours, better kept up, even our CBJ was better kept together than WDW's. That's just my opinion, but feel free to disagree with me.

-SPΛCE
I agree with every one of those with the exception of Splash Mountain which I found to be almost exactly the same at Disneyland. Our Tiki room is a mess compared to Disneylands.

Im so glad that WDW is finally paying attention to their rides. I may just have to leave Universal for awhile and get a Disney pass.

And it may never have happened without Matt Ouimet and what he did at the Disneyland Resort as President. What an enormous impact he had in a brief time...

I think that WDW has really felt the competition from Universal over the years
And has been trying to cut costs where they can, reduced staffing and reduced upkeep. Now however it is really starting to show, and they need to turn things around. Certain things (like overflowing trash barrels) would never have been seen 12-15 years ago!!!

It seems we are straying a bit from the original topic here. Neways...
New HM updates from sources:
The Haunted Mansion rehab at Walt Disney World which will involve the addition of a new Staircase scene, and upgrades to two other scenes. They confirm that The Black Widow Bride (they call it the Haunted Bride) “who’s husbands always seem to get the ax…” is indeed coming to the attic. The all new floating Madame Leota s?ance scene will also be added. They mention that the new effects for the Bride and floating Leota are new and improved over what was just installed in the Disneyland mansion not long ago. The all new scene being added to a previously “dead space” will be the Staircase scene as described last week. In addition to this will also be the expected upgrades to the audio, lighting and effects systems. It’s great to see the Magic Kingdom finally wake up and start to take care of their classic attractions and upgrade the effects over time as has been going on at Disneyland for years now.

Kyle-
There is a scene being added to the old flourecent spider room consisting of a maze of staircases. Go to the second page of this topic and you'll see someone posted a picture.

yeah, i thought some things were a little wrong at HM when i went ther in feb. This may just be me, but half of the time it was pitch black. you'd just be rolling through darkness. The voice was a little hissy and crackly too. After the ride, i thought that the one in DL was much different, and better, than the one there.

Interestingly they have painted over Master Graceys name on the sign outside the Mansion. Now it simply says (Your Ghost Host).
