Disney has announced plans to make a feature film of HSM: HAUNTED HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL.

Now my fear is that they'll mash HSM and the Haunted Mansion together...

I remember I said jokingly a year ago that they should put a cast of some Disney Channel show in the Hollywood Tower Hotel and make a movie out of that.

Perhaps thats what they mean.

Funny if it was.

Cos technically the Hollywood Tower is haunted....
Or perhaps they're visiting N'orleans and pop into the Mansion.

It'd be stupid, regardless.

And by then whoever liked High School Musical last year will be too old
& not care anymore.

Haunted High School Musical indeed!
Outrageous

Disney likes to kill everything that people like about them.
Millionare, PotC:DMC (not that the movie was bad, but they took things that I liked from the first movie and over did it in the 2nd) Pixar at theme parks. List goes on and on.

In looking at how the financial statements were affected by sales of High School Musical, it's really difficult not to get behind the HSM concept and try to at least keep it going. However, that is simpletonistic thinking almost completely detached from the reality of the product and its effect on the market.

If I based my opinion of a product solely on its financial statement effect, I'm not living on planet Earth. The ends never justify the means. I have no idea why HSM is such a big hit, but someone just looking at the statements wouldn't care. It makes money, gimmie more! That's unfortunately the simplistic thinking going on. Just because it made money doesn't mean it was a good idea - not in this world! Maybe 40 or so years ago sure, because people spent their money on quality programs and products. Big revenue was a by-product of high quality. This is no longer the case in media, unfortunately.

Disney needs to get back to creating high-quality entertainment offerings that if they make money, it will be for the right reasons. I really hope the end of this 'hey that made money! let's make 50 sequels of it!' thinking comes soon.

Honestly, I don't see how you can combine something ghostly with High School Musical. Even with Gracey Manor and The Hollywood Tower Hotel. It just doesn't fit together. Disney will just lose money out of this.

One could hope that this will turn out to be terrible & kill the HSM franchise once & for all...

I think you are on the right track in your thinking. but not all sequels are a bad idea. the direct to video ones generally are. for example... Toy Story 2 was alot of fun and the Toy Story 3 that has been greenlit for a 09 release will probably be good as well.

But the good news is this... Lasseter has announced that Disney Animation will be returning to the traditional hand drawn feature film. If I am not mistaken, the last was Home on the Range. The next traditionally drawn, original concept will be called American Dog and will be followed by the Frog Prince. I will look for that article to give you some sources...

Look... a light at the end of the tunnel...

When it comes to music and supernatural... only The Haunted Mansion and The Haunted Mansion Holiday are able to pull it off.

^Amen lol. Actually I totally believe that scary and music don't exactly go together lol.
But what about... Phantom of the Opera? Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street? The Rocky Horror Picture Show? Little Shop of Horrors? or Threepenny Opera?

When that shark bites
with it's teeth, dear,
scarlet billows
start to spread.
But on that jackknife
that old Mack Heath bears
there's never, ever,
a trace of red.

Agreed. Throw in Jekyll and Hyde as well. Music often can enhance the sinister nature of a story.
