According to Jim Hill Media, Fox and the Hound 2 is supposed to be the last sequel/midquel/prequel from the Toon Studios. COOL!!
of course the already in production movies (Tinkerbell, Cinderella 3, etc.) will come out as scheduled, but no more new features will be greenlit.
Except that TinkerBell is planned as the first of a series of Disney Fairies films.

^^right. i think that Toon Studios will go ahead with franchises like the Faries line and the Princess line, but supposedly they won't ever again create like a Dumbo 2 or something that has to do with the continuation of a movie in the Disney canon.

That's good to hear. I haven't seen to many of the straight to video sequels, but from what I have seen (Lion King 1 1/2, Hunchback 2), they are fairly good movies. I still think having all those sequels is a bad idea though.

That's good. They really need to come up with some new movies and not just continue with the classics. Some of them give the original a bad name.

No more sequels? Yippppeeeeeee!
I have always said that Disney makes too many sequels and that if they made a sequel out of Snow White or Mary Poppins I will lose faith in Disney.

I am certainly glad if this is true. But I feel they already caused enough damag to their classic films. Atleast it can finally end.

Okay, there's good news and bad news. The bad news is you're incorrect that is not the last Disney sequel. But, the good news is believe it or not, the upcoming Little Mermaid III is coming in 2008 and that one will be the last Disney sequel. Go to this link and see for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid_III

^^actually, The Fox and the Hound 2 IS the last Disney sequel/midquel/prequel. Disney Toon Studios will however still make Direct-to-DVD films that support their already established franchises like the Faries, Princesses, Winnie the Pooh, and Mickey and Friends. That's why we will see the release of Cinderella 3, Little Mermaid 3, and Tinkerbell. But the studios will not make any films that have to do with the continuation of the stories of movies in the Disney canon (besides the Princess movies). So we won't see a Dumbo 2 or something like that.

Yeah, sequels can ruin the originals.

I am glad that they aren't making any other sequels to classics besides the princess movies.

I have Fox and the Hound 2 and it was darling. I love the dog twins named Wayland and Floyd. I love it when they do their cute little dance.

Hurray! No more of these crudy sequels. Some of them were pretty good, but some of them are just plain silly. Disney should just leave the classics alone. There just much better that way.
So we won't see a Dumbo 2 or something like that.
There has already been a Dumbo 2.

are you kidding me? there's already a Dumbo 2? *groans*
I will JUMP FOR JOY if this is true. I'm so sick of sequels and prequels that I could barf. Truely, the most obnoxious part is that they usually make the sequals so long after the original that none of the original voices are in the movies. I just can't get into a sequal that has voices that don't sound anything like the originals. Plus people just need to come up with their own freaking ideas.
Aaaaand I'm done griping. Sorry for the rant :D

I don't think there actually IS a Dumbo II, yet?
According to Wikipedia, one was in the works, but never developed? I don't know. Can anyone confirm it?

For the Record Post:
Dumbo II was never released. I'll say it again, louder. Dumbo II was never released.
Let's start at the beginning. In 2001, Disney released the 60th Anniversary Edition of Dumbo. This DVD featured many features and Audio Commentaries. One of the features was actually a preview for the then "in-production" Dumbo II. The film was to be after this famous flying episode where Dumbo meets animal friends at the circus that are around his age. They all have childhood issues, such as failing to give up the pacifier and needing their "blankie". There would be an "adventure (DTV style)" for the action, probably getting lost. The preview consisted of producers and directors just raving about how GREAT this was going to be through use of Storyboards. Needless to say there is a word to describe how I feel about it, and I'll let you fill it in. _______________
According to Wikipedia.org, on the Dumbo page it "seems" to be cancelled. Rumor has it that John Lasseter gave it the chopping block after one look at it. I would say no just after the title.
DTV sequels are ridiculous. It all started in the early nineties with "The Return of Jafar." The film was actually a rehash of Disney's afternoon TV series that was inspired by the wildly successful "Alladin". Parents bought it, but probably never watched it themselves.
Later, films continued to be continued, literally. We had all of those God-awful continuations of "The Little Mermaid," "The Lion King," "Cinderella," "Lady and the Tramp," "Alladin" got it again, and "Peter Pan" among others. The only sequels created by any branch of Disney and its affiliates to be released to theaters in the past twenty years have been "Return to Neverland," "Fantasia 2000," "The Jungle Book II," and "Toy Story 2."
These films, sans Toy Story 2, were box office bombs. Fantasia 2000 IMO was decent. However, trying to add to the already classic stories is sacrilige. And then, now, its not good enough. They added the "midquel." Lion King 1/2 and Fox and the Hound 2, as well as Bambi II are great examples of this. I don't like any of it. The only reason I like Lion King 1/2 is for the Bonus Feature's Virtual Safari.
These sequels are a joke and all we do is sit and complain. But have any of you thought of it this way? How about we stop buying it? That is when Disney will get the message. Letters will do nothing to stop the flow of these releases. Those of you who continue to buy the stuff and then post here about how bad they are are only doing half of it right. There is one way to stop it, Don't buy them no matter how cheap they get.
Then Disney will notice.
Then they will stop.
Then it will end.

lol, you know, i never understood why Disney even made so many sequels. I don't see why they didn't just write a series of books instead of making more movies. I'm glad they stopped doing it anyways.

It's more like a prequel. Since Tod and Cooper are still little pups. It's shows more of their childhood life as best friends.

^^actually it's what they call a midquel cuz it takes place during the original move.
this movie isn't suitable for theaters, but it's a good movie all around. of the straight to DVD movies, this one is by far in the top 5.
the story is a little weak and simple, but the animation is outstanding and the songs are beautiful. you should pick this one up if you're interested.

The Jungle Book 3.0 is just a joke from Saturday Night Live. Anyway, forgive me if I'm a stupid idiot, but I like Disney sequels. So, please don't make fun of....me. It's my opinion.

I totally agree that most sequels are bad. Unless they make one that is worthy of a nationwide theatrical release. the resuers down under is a good example of a worthwhile sequel venture. The problem comes when disney vomits up a sequel to a film that had no room for sequels. Cinderella ought to have ended at 1. so should have most of them. However, a film like the rescuers begs more movies. you want to see the further adventures. I was watching the Great Mouse Detective last night and thought about how I would probably enjoy and support a sequel if it were worthy of a theatrical release. so ... I dont know about the absolutely no more sequels policy. It may force the animation execs to come up with fresh stuff, or it may simply stifle the studios to a point that they produce nothing.
Disney has always been great at interpreting classic tales. just about every animated feature is based on a legend, fairy tale, or book. Even the Lion King is loosely based on Hamlet. Atlantis is original, but relies completely on the ancient legend of Atlantis. Disney needs to get back to those roots. there are still plenty of classic tales and plenty of important stories to tell from other nations. One that comes to mind is the Red Badge of Courage. Disney could take that one and just run with it. You wouldnt even really have to strictly follow the story. I could think of a few more if given the time...
I really do hope that Disney animation goes back to the traditional format. I like the whole computer animation thing, but I am quickly bored by the fact that every single animated movie out there is CGI. Get back to basics and wow us again, Disney.
