My guess is the majority of people on this site still have never been on either heh, with a small margin having been on mission space and a very small margin having been on horizons and omg small margin having been on both ;)

I like ducks and pancakes. Preferably not on the same plate. I'd rather have duck for dinner and pancakes for breakfast.

I have been on horizons, twas a great ride, but i like the thrill of mission space (not to mention the thrill of a long line and sold out fastpasses)

I saw Horizons on Youtube videos and a DVD my dad bought me a while back. Beautiful ride, wish it was still there. My vote is Horizons.

You have to be joking. Well, of course. I've never been to WDW so of course I couldn't vote for either attraction. But I have had pancakes, and ducks.

Mission: Space has bags ready just in case you lose said chicken & waffles or ducks & pancakes after riding, therefore Mission: Space wins.

Seriously though Horizons had a nice futuristic theme to it. Not to crazy or simple.

Still P&d Has more fun more presents and more taste

Horizons definetly I would never vote for the monstrosity that is Mission: SPACE.

Seriously though. If you are on the Sun Wheel and look down to the bottom left hand side of the coach, there is a slot and there is often a little white bag in there. I believe it says "motion-sickness" or something. People have the hardest time with that ride.

I had one chance to go on Horrizons...and didn't take it.

And Mission:Space I went on with some of those anti-nausea pills and I got sleepy after getting off.
So I think that says a lot.

I'm still going with pancakes and ducks.

Horizons all the way. It was the soul of EPCOT Center, not to mention a shiny novelty building that looked like a play toy. Now, it's been replaced by the dinky square Mission: SPACE. They sould've removed WOL. It's been closed permanantly.

I went on Horizons too many times to count. I've been on Mission:Space once and doubt I ever will again. Horizons hands down for me. I'd love to know definitively why they needed to tear down the whole friggin building.

PeoplemoverMatt

Because Mission: Space needed its own building.

The real reason was because the building was ready to collapse, so they had to shut down the ride as quickly as possible and create a new attraction.

Wasn't it sitting on a sink hole or something like that?

Still, I can't see why they couldn't have rebuilt it and updated the show scenes so that it's with current times, but no. They go for a souped up version of a spin and puke machine you find at a roadside carnival. You know, the one that looks like a UFO that might send you to space . . . hmm . . .

Funny thing is I have heard a very similar debate about World of Motion and Test Track, there are people who think they could have just added the circular test to the end of WoM without having to tear the attraction down. Dunno Im a fan of the current attractions. I think Disney needs to throw new stuff in there to keep fresh with the competition. I mean how many people here have complained that there arent enough thrill rides in Disney Parks as it is?

I just got back from WDW last week with my Wife and 13 yr old, and when Epcot opened early for the day we hit Test Track and Mission Space as fast as we could. I hadn't been to WDW in about ten years, back when they were still building TT.

Test Track is okay, and Mission Space stunk. Watching some of the footage from Discover channel on the making of MS I thought it was a bit of a simulator. You know what happens if you don't push your two stupid buttons? The same thing as if you do.

I was really looking forward to that "ride". Too bad. I bet they spent a fortune building that stupid thing.

But then I saw that the "Maelstrom" in Norway had a wait time of about 50 minutes around 4 in the afternoon. HUH? Maelstrom? Not only is it lame, (okay, it's cute once, sort of) but they hold you hostage at the end waiting for the next movie to start. When everyone wanted to go on it (we met some friends there) I held back and walked to Mexico to get a margarita. With a wait time of 5 minutes they came out a half hour later, held hostage by the movie wait. They didn't watch the movie, they had to wait for the theatre to open to leave. So, has anyone ever watched that movie? Or cared?

David

So you're saying it stunk because your ship didn't blow up if you didn't press the buttons?

Is there actually anyone who has ever gone on the ride and truly believed that they were in charge what happens?? I dont think Ive ever been afraid to not push the buttons..I do it because its fun to interact.

Naw, it stunk anyway, but that would improve it. One would think a few options could've been programmed into the show. The ONLY cool part was the launch. I'm glad I didn't wait in line more than a few minutes for that one. MS will not go down in Disney history as a great ride. Just an expensive one. I also noticed the lines were not tremendously long, no matter what. I think that's pretty telling.

Pretty telling of the ride's immense capacity, but of course that's totally overlooked.

Why do you think Nemo Subs' line is always so long? It's that popular? Hardly. Queue line lengths are inevitably a symptom of a ride's capacity. That's how in Epcot you'll see Mission Space with a 15min wait, while Test Track is 60mins and Soarin' is 90mins. Of the 3, Soarin' has the smallest capacity (riders per hour), with TT coming 2nd and Mission Space having the largest. Just do the math: If Mission Space can have 5x as many riders per hour as Soarin' can, Space's queue is going to be 1/5th the length of Soarin's queue. Simple mathematics - has nothing to do with any sort of popularity or legitimacy.

wait...you mean im not the actual "commander?" of the ship and that if I didnt push the buttons the ship wouldn't go boom? that makes me really depressed.

lol just kidding ;)

The whole ride is a simulation anyway. They make it abundantly clear that you're training for the mission despite how the mission itself actually looks and sounds.

The reason? It was originally designed to make like a real mission to Mars, kinda like how Star Tours calls itself a real trip to Endor. However, the concerns about sickness & safety were raised while the ride was in development...so the pre-show was re-written giving the illusion away that you're not really in a spacecraft, but in a spinning centrifuge. Interesting, no?
