Has Any one seen this? If so what are your thoughts?
OK I have gone out and purchased my Little Mermaid DVD In this 2 disk set. I was excited to see Tony Baxter has brought the idea of a Dark ride by Disney's Imaginereering into a format that people can get a glimpse of the creative world of the imagineers. This feature shows models and the process in the making of what could be a wonderful Disney Classic Ride! Wish I could be part of that World! What fun it would be to be involved it a project like this if it ever is realized. Do you think there is room enough for such a ride in Paradise Pier? There is a King Triton Carousel in the area?...Hmm.. at little theming could it work?
I know that the Clam-mobile ride vehicles designed for that attraction are part of Epcot's The Living Seas with Nemo & Friends refurb now. Good ideas never die.

so I just bought The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition DVD and they have the coolest special feature ever! on the 2nd disc the imagineers have made a virtual ride through of the proposed Little Mermaid ride. now this dark ride was thought up a long time ago, a little after the time of the movie's premiere. but it's a pretty sweet ride.
you see various scenes from the movie and you even go under water and it's just really cool. another special feature has a short documentary on imagineering the ride, and all i could think when i saw these bright and happy imagineers talk about their idea was how sad it is that it hasn't been implemented in the parks.
HELLOOOOOOOO! Disney, wake up! you have a perfectly good ride in CGI format right now. everything's worked out. put it in DCA in the Paradise Pier section and let's enjoy it! HELLOOOOOOO!
so...what are your thoughts?

I've seen it, and it DID sound like a great idea. Great that they finally made it a reality. I love the results.
However, the dark scenes are, in my opinion, going to be much TOO SCARY for the young'uns. In fact, from what I've seen, I think they're probably the scariest and creepiest of any dark ride ever. It gets the scariest when you ascend into the raging storm with Ursula appearing at the top. Once everything goes to black after she falls, it gets inkier until you hear "Yo Flounder, any kissing?" Then a real "Tunnel of Love" moment as everything gets romantic again for the end when we hear "Kiss The Girl" going into the wedding scene.

HOLY COW! That was SO COOL. GOSH. That was almost a Peter Pan-level of coolness. HAHAHA. :D Maybe not, but that was really neat. I wonder why they didn't make it... >.<;;
And yeah, that ride would've been scary. There's something about being underwater and feeling trapped that adds to the whole scary dark ride scenario. (Does anyone get what I'm saying?)
Too neat though. I really want to buy the DVD but I had second thoughts because I've been spending a lot of money lately. HAHA. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO RELEASE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ON DVD AGAIN? Grr. HAHA.

OMG! I absolutely loved it! The Little Mermaid is my favorite! I still wish it would become a ride. It is such an amazing concept and it's really to bad that they aren't going to make it a ride. I really think they should! It's so fantastic! It does seem a little scary..but Snow White scares me..the scary evil witch is always trying to give you that darn apple.. :(
The Little Mermaid is so cool! I would most definetly ride it
There was already an existing thread on this topic in So You Want To Be An Imagineer, so guess where we're going next?

I just saw it too, I think it would have been my favorite ride. They could use animatronics like the new ones in POTC. And for the part when you go under the water it could be the same affect as the Davy Jones part, or maybe instead of a dark ride you could be riding in a seashell (or boat) on actual water like POTC and the drop under the water would be the same as the drop on POTC. I think it would go perfect over in Paradise Pier.

here's an idea i'm just throwing out there:
why would Disney allow we people to see their plans for a ride? why would they go through all this work? perhaps because the Imagineers just wanted to showcase their idea.
but maybe, just maybe, Disney wanted to see the reaction of this ride OR maybe they are planning to put the plans into action. i dunno, my thoughts might be those of a maddman, but this is a great way to get good buzz!
and we know Disney does listen to us and read forums like this. how else would they know about all the negativity surrounding TSI's rumored change? they released an official statement debunking that rumor. so they do listen and read, and with all the buzz this ride has created, i think we may see it in the future. or not. hopefully. yes.

They could put this dark ride under the lake in the Paradise Pier area of DCA. If Disney could put VIP and Banquet rooms under the River of America in Disneyland, why couldnt they put a dark ride under the Paradise Pier lake?

I love hearing everyones ideas! I do hope the buzz of people interested in the idea helps inspire a future ride such as this to become a reality. Give the imaginears another classic ride to build and all of us to enjoy!

^^and you know, this makes me mad. i mean, why hasn't Disney built great rides based on their classics? everything's Finding Nemo this and Incredibles that...why not build rides of your classics?? one day I want to see a ride featuring Bambi!!

I think it's actually going to happen as part of the DCA renovation.
Rumor has it it's going to replace Golden Dreams.

But, if you think about it Pinchios Daring Journey has moments that are just as scary, if not scarier than the ones in The Little Mermaid.
