View Full Version : Cinderella Castle-50th decorations gone.
They have finally taken down the DL 50th anniversary stuff from Cinderella Castle.(which probably should not have been there) Unfortunately the upcoming Year of a Million dreams will force WDW to forget about Epcots 25th.:frown:

I have heard a few rumors that they might replace Reflections of Earth and play a medly of historic Epcot music at the entrance and Spaceship Earth area. I would love to hear the Tapestry of Nations music again. I loved that parade and i really miss it.

Isn't this year also Magic Kingdom's 35th anniversary? Are they doing anything for that or no?

Definitely not.It will confuse the East Coast audience who were brainwashed into believing that it was WDWs 50th anniversary.

I dont think they 'brainwashed' people into believing it was WDW's 50th anniversary...

Did you see what they did to the castle?

It wasn't a brainwashing, but it was certainly misleading. Would you understand what 'Celebrating 50 Years of Disney Theme Park Magic' was if that's what you briefly read on your hurried way to Space Mountain? I doubt it. You'd see the 50 and go 'hmm, WDW is 50 this year, cool.' :icon_roll
There are also people who think Soarin' is a flyover all around the USA there as well.

You have to admit though that they promoted WDW more than DL during the 50th. It was frustrating to see Cinderella's Castle on their 50th commercials!

They didnt brainwash people, but I will admit it was misleading.
I dont think they will do anything for the Magic Kingdom's 35th anniversary, they just finished the 50th. If they did another celebration the anniversarys would be over done. They cant celebrate every little thing.

My personal favorite was the commercial where Walt was reading the Disneyland dedication and his image was morphed over to an image of WDW. That was priceless. What were they thinking? Oh yeah, help convince the public who believes anything they see on TV that Walt was alive when WDW opened.....
OK, I am not that cynical - it was just a marketing thing - hated it and wish it would not have been done - but I am sure it was not intended to be a malicious "brain-washing" of the public....

When it is actually WDWs 50th there will be mass confusion.;)
All the parks were celebrating The Disneyland Concept during this celebration. They were probably thinking along the lines that the spirit of Walt Disney is blessing all the parks, and wanted to portray that in way that people would get in only a few seconds. It was probably a well-intentioned but poor choice rather than blatant manipulation or brainwashing. Their advertising should bring new people without putting off the solid customer base they already have, and this TV spot missed the mark in that regard.
That campaign was trying to play both ends against the middle. Disneyland is too small and crowded to handle much additional buisness. It's slogan was Homecoming, calling to people who have already visited before, rather than anyone new. WDW has plenty more park and hotel space and had Celebration as their slogan, specifically targeting new buisiness as well as repeat business. It's an entirely different focus. WDW was advertised more for the same reason: It has more capacity.

I liked the fact that each park celebrated DLRs 50th but I think they overdid it in WDW and the promotional material was not clear enough. The ad just said 50 years of theme park magic which is open to interpertation. They should of said something more along the lines of come celabrate the 50th anniversary of the Disney theme park concept which started in Disneyland in 1955.
That would be much clearer.;)
I totally agree. I assume that's what they were going for, but they really didn't make it. When you say Celebrate 50 Years of Theme Park Magic and show WDW, of course there will be misunderstandings. Now if they said Celebrate 50 Years of Theme Park Magic and the visual was Disneyland's castle morphing into the other castles around the world, that would have worked...

For the 50th WDW had a mirror above the entrance that showed Sleeping Beauty castle which would slowly morph to show each castle from all the parks including HKDL.;)
They should have done that for the tv commercials.

Speaking of commercials, anyone see the new "Disney Parks" commercial? I liked it a ton until it got to the end. You want to see either WDW or DL as the closer to the ad. Not the top of Cinderella's Castle poking through clouds with the tag line of "Disney Parks." It's TOO generic.
The commercial itself is great! The family fishing then being on the Black Pearl, the kid flying on an elephant, the girl opening a door and walking out to a royal processional. The ad itself is great. It's this whole generic Disney Parks concept that is not resonating with me...

That promo could be extremely short-lived as all 'Disney Parks' merchandise with that logo was yanked off store shelves in Disneyland recently. People HATE the generic 'Disney Parks' branding, and with good reason.

Something along those lines would have been much more clearer. I dont think Disney purposley tried to make it out like it was WDW's 50th too, but it happenes. Also, the 50th is over now, they should try to not make the same mistake for their 100th anniversary
does any one have pic of the castle with the 50th stuff gone?

The thing is I dont think they were trying to be specific. They were just trying to get people to the parks to celebrate the 50th. They should have been a little more specific in saying celebrate DL's 50th but they didnt, they simply implied it was the 50th of "Theme Park" magic.

Question was though, who's 50th is it? Many people over there incorrectly assumed it was WDW's 50th. Tokyo had a little display explaining how it's Disneyland's 50th.

They had a streaming silent radio ticker in the Soarin' queue explaining the ride was from Disneyland, CA celebrating the 50th anniversary ;)

They even had a little sign that said 'Soarin' Over California' and still to this day most people who aren't folks like us think you're soaring over random points of interest in the USA. The things is, we recognize all those places in CA, they've never seen any of them, so how would they know? Just like many of them have never been to Disneyland CA, assuming they even know it exists, so how could they know what '50 years of Disney theme park magic' really referred to?
Tokyo knew this, so they put up this little display pictured below to explain what the deal really was about.

They went so far as to say 'Disneyland Park in California' so no one was confused. Japanese are so considerate like that!

As a Walt Disney World native I just would like to point out that i knew the true story.I went to Disneyland this previous summer to pay my respects to Walts original park and I am glad I did. In fact I never went to WDW during the 50th celebration(I am closer to Florida than California but it still is a plane flight away to WDW for me so its not like just around the corner. I have only been there three times.)

I heard that the bling bling from the castle is going to be used for the new statues/fountains in the Walt Disney Studios in Paris that are now in construction
