VF Radio 3.0 Requests - Please Read

During certain periods, we can take requests on VF Radio. However, please bear in the mind the following:

Because of copyright laws, we cannot announce a request before it plays, so your request may play at any time, or even not at all. We cannot update you as to the status of your requests.

Often our material is playing in automated mode, playing a preset playlist. In these cases, we cannot accomodate any special requests.

I thought it was on a click and play basis for the user. I suppose 3.0 means its updated.

the old system was a click and play. The new streaming version can not accomidate this way of handling music due to copyright laws.

Have you considered having "request times" maybe where a member of the staff is in VF Chat from like 6-8 or something to take requests? Maybe you could have a VF Radio DJ, and when he is on, he can be in Chat.

We want to avoid taking requests via chat since its hard to keep track of them. If there's a thread, its easy to go through the thread and find the most recent requests. Also, by taking requests in Chat, DJ's may be tempted to give out program information (Whats coming next) and that violates DMCA laws.

A good idea would be that, since you'll know when one of us is DJing in real time, to come here and post your requests then if you have them.

That being said, the thread also provides you with a perpetual opportunity to request. I'm going to be monitoring this thread so when I do DJ, I'll be looking to accomodate all members' requests as best I can. So it really doesn't matter if the request is made while one of us is actively DJ'ing or not since all requests will be made here anyway.

I envision a situation similar to when celebrities have an internet chat. There, the questions are all pre-submitted so the celeb can take them in stride rather than being overwhelmed. I know as a DJ it'll be much easier for me to read requests here than to be taking them live. So if you want your request to be taken, best bet is to just post them here! Hope that made sense...

I'll echo that as well. Our collections are simply far too numerous to provide an entire listing, though I believe Neo's working on that. Just go ahead and request whatever from the parks you'd like to hear & we'll do the best we can. :biggrin:

A note here in case anyone's wondering - we cannot respond to your requests either on the air or here. So if you were expecting a DJ to say 'sure thing, I'll play it later tonight!' don't feel bad if you don't hear that, and don't feel ignored either. DJs monitor this thread & we know what you're asking for. So make your request and tune in. You just might hear what you request. :smile:

Also- not a musical request... since VFR 3.0 can run through QuickTime still, would it be plausible/legal to create a Mac widget out of it? (I had asked Almandot about this some time ago, he recommended waiting until 3.0 was out of beta to ask the site team).* Although only a few of us on VF might be Mac users, I'm sure MANY of us would love to have VFR 3.0 playing on our dashboards 24/7 =)

I wish we had the old way even without being able to select songs. My firewall at work doesn't let the new version in, but it did the old way.
I don't know what the technical difference is, but it doesn't like the new version. So I don't get to listen anymore.

I had a small audience on occasion, but there were a few times when I had a pretty good sized audience for Star Trek Radio. Remember the whole point of why I did it was to group everything together in the Star Trek 'costume' that VF wore for Halloween during the month of October.

I put up a poll to gauge interest as a lark just in case maybe people wanted to hear it once in a while after Halloween. The results were 6/21 positive and 15/21 negative. Now obviously this being a Disneyland/WDW related website, I didn't expect hardly anyone to want it back. Do you know what the odds are of meeting someone who enjoys going to Disneyland and is Star Trek fan at the same time? It's nearly impossible. But, I threw it out there just in case the results surprised me.

What are we going to do next Halloween? Well the Staff had a great time with the costume overlay. Who knows what we'll come up with this year. Whatever we come up with, I'll try to find something related to it I can play on the Radio just like I did with Star Trek.

Or, maybe we'll do Star Trek again and I can once again dip into my archives that I had gathered myself being a Star Trek fan. We'll see what happens in 10 months time. :smile:

Any music from WDW? I'd really like the Great Movie Ride, Rock n Roller COaster, American Adventure... etc. Please!!!! Can't you guys set up a playlist list that list all the audio available and then we can request it like that?

I agree the old way was way better. But it was not only good for instantly tuned in, but it was good because it had a list of EVERYTHING!!!!

The files aren't held on some centralized VF server or anything. It's the personal music library of whoever's DJing at the time. I personally don't want to post a giant list of all my files because it will only entice people to start PMing IMing emailing me asking to trade music which is a VF no-no.

Since we're given specific instructions not to hear a request in the shoutbox/etc and immediately play it, I'm not sure a decent request system is ever going to work on VF since we're talking about hearing a request from someone and then fitting a 2 minute song into a several hour broadcast that the person may happen to hear or not.

I'd like to hear songs from the other Disney parks, if anyone's got any...especially any entertainment tracks (e.g. parades, fireworks). The songs are always so catchy... :) Or through web surfing, I notice the parks often had anniversary theme songs. Wouldn't mind hearing what some of those sounded like too. :) Thanks!

I was just wondering were do you get all of your entertainment tracks(e.g. POTC ,SM, and the fireworks shows) I enjoyed all the rides sounds that Disneyland has now and in the past plus the music in each land so how can I get some of those tracks??

These are things that the staff members have in their personal collections. Because of copyright issues, alot of these just aren't available. We're allowed to broadcast them, but not allowed to make them available for download. But some of them are available for purchase from Walt Disney Records (http://www.waltdisneyrecords.com). The 6-CD set A Musical History of Disneyland has alot of complete attraction tracks, for example. There are also souvenir albums for Pirates of the Carribean and The Haunted Mansion, for Fantasmic... and all sorts of other goodies, that you can purchase at the parks.

I think it would be nice if you played some music from WDW attractions. I love hearing music from DL, but I've never been there before, and I feel it kind of spoils the surprises that await in the attractions. If you can play some WDW music, that'd be good.
