Does anyone ever watch that show on Disney "Life with Derek"? I don't watch it an awful lot but when I do, it just makes me angry. Like that episode "Babe Raider". I mean first of all, DisneyChannel needs to remember what is okay to show on a Family-style channel. Second of all,the main character Casey, is a total hypocrite (if she wore her "Babe Raider" outfit in my school, or in my house, she would be in so much trouble and her parents just let her walk around like that).

All Casey does is complain about how much her life stinks and that is what every episode is about. It gets annoying

Anyone care to comment?

Ah! Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks that! I saw that episode while back on the Disney Channel and just could not believe they were showing that. I'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but that sort of material just does not belong on a channel geared towards children.

Unfortunately, however, that seems to be the direction the Disney Channel is heading. Did anybody happen to catch the latest Ali and AJ video? It had such a "Nirvana" feel to it, it really surprised me. I have watched the Life With Derek show several times and did see the episode you're referring to, and yes that shocked me as well. The Disney Channel used to be a safe place to let your kids watch TV, but now I am so careful about letting my 4 year old watch it. By 2:00, it becomes programming that is inappropriate for him. I guess the days of fun shows ala "Disney Afternoon" are not only no longer needed but also no longer wanted by kids. Sad.

Disney Channel seems to have undergone a metamorphosis from being a channel parents enjoy seeing their kids watch to being a channel kids want to watch.

That sounds good until you remember that they're kids and in today's culture the childhood desire to completely rebel against your parents, shirk off all responsibility, and basically live as an anarchist, as stupid as it is, is highly fed and encouraged. Why? Because businesses know that parents will actually give their kids money, A LOT of money to consume it. Businesses want that money so they do everything they can to appeal to the adolescent 'tween' so the kid will demand it from the most-likely unknowing and irresponsible parent (let's face it, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree). It's said that it happens but it does to the tune of tens of Billions each year.

It's kinda like when as a small kid I begged my mom in the grocery store to buy me the marshmallow cereal I saw on TV. She had the audacity to say no each & every time, and she also wouldn't stand for my pitching a fit. Was she some mean over-agressive overbearing monster? No, she was simply looking out for my best interests knowing I was far too young to know them myself.

I don't watch that show, so I don't know what you're talking about, but I have noticed there has been some racier stuff on Disney Channel recently. I was watching the Suite life this one time and I just found myself thinking "this is being shown on Disney Channel?" I don't remember the episode or anything, so I'm not too useful in that respect, but I know what you mean about the new Disney Channel.

What I don't get is why they show things that have a somewhat suggestive content (just a few minutes ago, the film "Bob the Butler" had a moment where he said, "nice melons" to a woman) and yet they will not show movies that have a lot of action/adventure in them. Normally I like the shows on DisneyChannel, but Life With Derek completley disgusts me.

U know what they used to have that. I loved tale spin. Also we got a phone service with our cable company and when we got telepohne they gave us channels like toon disney. I was excited about getting it bc my friends had it and they had rescue rangers, old mickey cartoons, tail spin, darkwing duck, timon and pumba, and all sorts of fun stuff. But now they have stupid JETIX on. Kids these days think there growing up too fast. As for me i never watch disney channel. I HATE lizzie mcguire. And Life with derek. I thought thats so raven was pretty good, and sister sister was a great show. But now they have all those bad shows on. If i was really bored i'd rather watch spongebob

Agreed. JETIX is filled with stupid violence, and PowerAngers... ( YUCK!!! )

I can't belive Disney officially owns Powerangers...

But when I first got Toon Disney, I would watch it all day. Now the only time you can see the shows that you know and love, is on a Holiday ( Such as Labor Day ) where their is no school.

All the good shows are run from 12:00PM- 3:00PM.

I've stopped watching DisneyChannel years ago. ecxept for the exeptions of watching shows like Recess, Lilo & Stitch the Series, and a few cartoons like Brandy & Mr. Whiskers for its randomness. But thats when they showed them more often. The list goes on with all the great cartoon classics that dominated DisneyChannel back in the day... Now pretty much everything is replaced with what you guys mentioned which those kind of shows bore me to death. So anyways, I say DisneyChannel is doomed unless they pull an act together...

I don't like that show much either. I will watch it but it doesn't strike me as a "good show". I think Disney can live without that show and the Replacements. They don't have any point to them.

Mikokat

It's all about the ratings. If they show shows that parents want kids to watch, but kids do not want to watch it, the kids won't watch it. But if they make shows that kids want to watch, then kids will watch it. Rememberm when kids don't watch, they lose ratings, and if they lose too many ratings, Disney Channel could go off air.
Now, onto this whole "Disney Channel is Pointless" thing. Disney Channel is geared toward kid these days, not adults. You must remember, that at Disney, kids come before adults, that's how Walt had it done. Now maybe when I'm 30 or 40, I might say Disney Channel is stupid, but if my kids like watching it, I'm cool with it (As long if it's kid appropriate). Now I didn't catch that one Life with Derek episode, and it's an OK show, but Disney can go without it. Now, about the Replacements, I think it's a more Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network-type show, kids getting rid of adults.

There's my Andy Rooney-type rant.

Disney_Guy
11-05-2006, 01:30 PM
Well Cartoon Network is going in a different direction. They are attracting even more adults now just as kids. How? Because they now offer late night adult cartoons. Something that DisneyChannel and Nickelodeon has yet to happen.

I can not stand that show. Just goes to show you these days that Disney will put anything on their television programming for money...even if it is not made by Disney. Next you are going to see a "Life With Derick" live stage show or something like that in the parks. I swear, Disney has removed almost any sign of the original Disney from their programing. The only place you can see the "real and original" Mickey Mouse is at the parks.

Again, why would Disney put this kind of crap on their programming? It isnt family friendly by any means at all. I say that Disney needs to bring back House of Mouse. At least that had the original characters.(Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Daisy, Donald, ect, ect...)

Exactly...all the new good Disney movies? Pixar.
Disney has lost there imagination...and art skills.
Remember the show Teacher's Pet? THAT is supposed to be Disney animation?? You've got to be kidding me!
And the fact that they turned Mickey into a Dora the Explorer re-do? Discusting.

I agree. You would think that because of what people expect from Disney, the shows they put on it would have some class to them. And what about the new show The Replacements? The story line is too far fetched and the animation stinks.

Au contraire. Perchance you've forgotten what Walt said about entertaining for kids?

"Your dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."

-Walt Disney

And on the subject of programming like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse:

"Adults are interested if you don't play down to the little 2 or 3 year olds or talk down. I don't believe in talking down to children. I don't believe in talking down to any certain segment. I like to kind of just talk in a general way to the audience. Children are always reaching."

-Walt Disney

I stay away from the Disney Channel these days. There hasn't been a decent attempt at a great show on there since Kim Possible and The House of Mouse.

I know what you mean. I was channel surfing the other day and there was something to the effect of the Three Musketeers on. I stopped to watch for a few moments and was surprised when Pete said, "Now don't ***** this up."

Now, I'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination (my favorite tv show is Family Guy!) but I was somewhat shocked when that happened. It's not a swear or anything, but I know if I were a parent I wouldn't want my 4 year old hearing that.

Hmm, guess I didn't think of that.

Seriously, I am sick of hearing complaints about Disney Channel! I think everyone gets the friggin' point!

If people have complaints about Disney Channel, how about sending letters to the Disney company to put some old shows back on, but keep some newer shows so that everyone can be happy. How's that for a compromise?

I think this is the third thread about DC complaints.

Mods, can we close this thread, please? It has gone way off-topic.

I recently saw an epidode of "Life With Derek" because I wanted to observe & in the episode, the whiny little girl says, "Man. I didn't have enough room to shake my boobs." AAAAAAAAAH! Now I'm pissed! Get rid of that show! Anyone have anything to say?!

Okay I've watched all of the "Life With Derek" episodes and I have never heard that line said. Yes, the show has made a number of references to the chest but the youngest daughter, Marti, never uttered that line.

While the show is more risque than the other current Disney shows, it is still tame when compared to the so-called "family programming" on other channels. The show is just more geared towards the upper end of Disney's age bracket (meaning 12 and up).

Also, I don't know if it's me, but it seems as if Season 2 is tamer than Season 1. I didn't seem to notice as many risque lines passing through this season as I did the first.

It wasn't Marty. It was Casey's little sister. I still think that show should be removed along with any show that isn't made by Disney!

OK, Here's what happens, Casey's little sister thinks she can't dance & she doesn't feel comfortable about going to the school dance & finally she goes & when she comes back that's when she says, "I didn't have enough room to shake my boobs."

That's what I believe the episode was, I've only seen it once.

I seen it a couple of times but never watched an episode completely. I, too, love Family Guy and is willing to watch Degrassi:The Next Generation but it shouldn't show up on Disney Channel. Honestly, what attracted me to the show, Life With Derek, was that Casey was cute. However, I did get fed up with her complaining.
It's a dumb idea of making a show with a girl who's complaining about her life. She has no problem comparing to other people. Has she ever prayed to God that she'll die? Has she ever cut herself? Has she ever been emo before? I assume not because I don't recall ever seeing that from all that I saw. Such waste of time, in my opinion. If I want to hear someone complain about their life, I'll go back to school or Jerry Springer.

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,

That isn't what she says at all. She said "I didn't have a chance to show off my moves." George had taught her some dance moves the night before, starting off with the waltz, and as seen later on in the end, she does some very mild and cheesy dances.

Wait just one freakin' moment. I happen to be an expert on this show and Lizzie does NOT say "Man. I didn't have enough room to shake my boobs." She, in fact, says, "I didn't get to SHOW MY MOVES." There was nothing about boobs in there.

I don't understand why everybody is against LwD. There's really nothing wrong with it. Yes, it is a Canadian show, and yes, the first season was a little risqué, but the new season is much cleaner. What happened is that Family Channel didn't expect the show to be so popular, so they had whatever they wanted on there. When they found out that CHILDREN were watching it, they cleaned up the show and keep the bad stuff off.

I think that if you're going to bash something, you should have your facts straight. I mean, I wouldn't come on here and start bashing Mickey Mouse or Winnie the Pooh because in ONE episode/movie I saw something that wasn't as clean as it should be. Disney doesn't air the first season episodes because it knows that children probably shouldn't see it.

Like I said, please don't bash something just because you don't like it. Lots of people like it, just search "LwD, Life with Derek" on YouTube. I figure if you don't like something, JUST DON'T WATCH IT!! It's really that simple. Don't complain about it, or say bad things about it. Please.

I'm sorry if this seems rude, but I feel really strongly about this. I didn't mean it to be rude, or offensive.

lpetiti
02-08-2008, 12:57 PM
